Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 79
After dinner, Shen Xian and the others sat in the living room chatting while occasionally glancing at the TV. Tiantian had spread out her little yellow duck puzzle all over the table and was happily working on it, stealing a few peeks at the television every now and then.
On TV, a scene happened to show one girl straddling another girl’s lap. Tiantian excitedly pointed at the screen, “They’re working! Mommy and Mama worked like that too last time!”
Shen Wenkang and Fang Jinglan were still sitting there. Hearing this, Lin Qinghan’s ears flushed red at a visible speed. She hastily switched the channel and cleared her throat, “Um… Sweetie, want some fruit?
Mama will make you a yogurt salad, okay?”
As soon as food was mentioned, Tiantian’s attention was quickly diverted. She nodded her little ponytail eagerly. “Okay! Tiantian wants some~”
Lin Qinghan quickly went to the fridge to get yogurt and fruit, trying to smooth over the awkwardness caused by what Tiantian had just said.
Fang Jinglan, meanwhile, had to stifle a laugh as she glanced knowingly at Shen Xian but chose not to comment.
Soon, Lin Qinghan returned with the yogurt salad. She made a large bowl for the adults and a small one just for Tiantian, bringing it out to her while the little girl munched fruit and assembled her puzzle, her tiny mouth never idle.
Feeling slightly embarrassed, Lin Qinghan placed the big bowl on the coffee table and said, “Dad, Mom, please have some too.”
“Sure,” Fang Jinglan replied with a smile.
Around 9 p.m., Lin Qinghan went to coax Tiantian to bed, while Shen Xian prepared the medication for Shen Wenkang. Together with Fang Jinglan, they helped him sit upright. Shen Xian then mixed the special capsule she’d bought from the system into his regular medication and helped him take it all before laying him back down.
Once everything was done, Fang Jinglan returned to her room. Shen Xian also went back to the room she shared with Lin Qinghan and Shen Tian. By the time she got back Tiantian was already sound asleep against the wall.
Shen Xian smiled softly and murmured, “She fell asleep that fast?” She climbed into bed beside her, with Lin Qinghan lying in the middle.
As soon as Shen Xian lay down, she felt a sharp pinch at her waist and winced, whispering, “Qinghan? What was that for?”
Lin Qinghan glared at her, her ears burning red. “This is your fault. Didn’t you say Tiantian had forgotten?”
Still holding her waist, Shen Xian chuckled, “How was I supposed to know her memory was so good? I was wrong, Qinghan. I’ll be more careful next time—I promise she won’t see a thing.”
Lin Qinghan scoffed, giving her a gentle shove. “Next time?”
Shen Xian immediately shook her head. “No, no next time.”
Turning away, Lin Qinghan faced Tiantian and ignored her. Shen Xian scooted forward until she was right up against Lin Qinghan’s back. “Qinghan, don’t be mad. I said I was sorry,” she whispered, nuzzling against the back of Qinghan’s neck.
That particular spot was close to her gland, and Shen Xian’s warm breath sent a tingling flush across Lin Qinghan’s neck. Her body tensed, and she instinctively tried to pull away, but the person behind her clearly wasn’t letting up.
Left with no choice, Lin Qinghan turned around and gazed into Shen Xian’s eyes before giving her a gentle kiss on the lips. Her fingers lightly scratched Shen Xian’s neck as she said, “Alright, enough. If you keep messing around, Tiantian might see again. Be good tonight, okay? When we get home tomorrow, I’ll do whatever you want.”
Shen Xian had only been teasing her, but hearing that made her grin with satisfaction. “Okay, I’ll hold you to it.”
“But you still have to wait until Tiantian’s asleep tomorrow night,” Lin Qinghan reminded her, tapping her cheek.
Tiantian was peacefully asleep, dreaming of something delicious. She even licked her lips in her sleep, completely unaware of what her moms were whispering about.
Shen Xian reached over to turn off the bedside lamp, leaned in close, and kissed Lin Qinghan’s ear. “Good night, Qinghan.”
“Good night.”
Ever since falling ill, Shen Wenkang had always woken up early and gone to bed early. Because of his stroke, he couldn’t even dress himself. Still, he always tried not to wake Fang Jinglan unless absolutely necessary, like when he needed to use the bathroom.
That morning, as usual, he woke up at five—but something felt different. His body didn’t feel like it usually did. He tried clenching his fists and found that both hands could move. He gave them a firm squeeze—they worked. His eyes welled up with tears.
He pinched his thigh hard. It hurt. He tried sitting up and did so with ease. In the past, he couldn’t even get out of bed without Fang Jinglan’s help. But now, he stood up, took two steps, and found himself walking normally, not leaning to one side.
Overcome with emotion, Shen Wenkang began crying uncontrollably. A man over fifty years old, now sobbing like a child.
He wanted to share the good news with Fang Jinglan but saw that it was still just 5:00 a.m. He sat at the edge of the bed for ten minutes to compose himself, then excitedly got dressed, washed up, and went to the kitchen to cook.
In the years since his stroke, Shen Wenkang had felt most guilty toward Fang Jinglan. He couldn’t do anything on his own, and back then, Shen Xian was still immature, constantly asking for money. Fang Jinglan had to manage everything—his care and the household burdens. He had seen it all but had been helpless to do anything.
Now, even if this recovery was temporary, he was determined to cook a meal for her.
As he moved around the kitchen, the delicious aroma of breakfast slowly filled the house.
Shen Xian had been on edge, worried about her father, so she woke up as soon as she heard movement. She stepped out just as Fang Jinglan opened her door.
Seeing Shen Xian, Fang Jinglan asked, “Why did you let Qinghan get up so early to cook breakfast? You should’ve told me—I could’ve done it.”
Shen Xian shook her head. “Qinghan and Tian are still asleep. I just got up.”
“That’s impossible,” Fang Jinglan muttered, clearly unconvinced. She walked to the kitchen—and froze.
There stood Shen Wenkang, no walker in sight, casually cooking noodles just like he had years ago. Two side dishes were already prepared on the counter.
Fang Jinglan burst into tears on the spot. “Wenkang… you can walk again?”
Shen Wenkang rushed over. “Jinglan, I don’t know what happened. I woke up like this. I thought, even if this is just a final burst of energy, I had to cook one last meal for you.”
“Don’t talk nonsense! This means you’re cured! Maybe all our daily exercises paid off. We have to go to the hospital later and get it checked.” Fang Jinglan held his hands tightly.
“Alright, alright—whatever you say.”
Meanwhile, Shen Xian took over the cooking so the couple could sit and talk.
Hearing the commotion, Lin Qinghan and Tiantian also got up. Tiantian toddled out, rubbing her eyes, her bedhead in full bloom. She saw Grandpa talking animatedly with Grandma.
“Mama! Mama! Grandpa… Grandpa…” she shouted, not even knowing how to explain the strange scene.
Lin Qinghan thought something bad had happened and dashed out—only to see Shen Wenkang sitting on the couch, not using a walker or pausing between words, but chatting naturally with Fang Jinglan.
She was stunned. “Dad?”
Shen Wenkang, eyes still misty, smiled. “Qinghan, thank you for everything these years.”
“You don’t need to thank me, Dad. I’m just glad you’re okay.” Lin Qinghan choked up.
Fang Jinglan wiped her tears and smiled, “This is a happy moment. No more crying. We’ve suffered enough—now it’s time for joy.”
Lin Qinghan nodded. “Yes, only happy days ahead.”
“Qinghan, come help carry the noodles—breakfast is ready!” Shen Xian called from the kitchen.
“I’m coming!” Lin Qinghan replied, heading off to help.
Tiantian was taken to the bathroom to wash up by her grandparents. She didn’t fully understand what was going on but seeing the grown-ups smiling made her happy too.
Once the noodles were served, and Tiantian was washed up, the family sat together for breakfast, all smiling from ear to ear.
Shen Xian said, “Qinghan, why don’t you take a day off and come with us to the hospital? We’ll feel more at ease after the check-up.”
“Sure, I’ll let my supervisor know.”
Fang Jinglan looked around the table with teary eyes and said, “This… this is the kind of moment I’ve dreamed of. I never thought it would come true. Wenkang, Shen Xian has finally turned her life around. Now we can enjoy our golden years.”
Shen Wenkang nodded, “Yes. My only worry left is you and Qinghan. Shen Xian, you’d better treat her well, or your mother and I won’t let you off.”
“Don’t worry, Dad. You’re all the most precious people in my life,” Shen Xian said sincerely.
Tiantian didn’t quite get the conversation but nodded along while munching her breakfast. “Yes, yes! Tiantian thinks so too~”
Everyone burst out laughing at her adorableness.
After breakfast, they dropped Tiantian off at kindergarten and headed to Linhai City Hospital. Thanks to Shen Xian’s connections, they’d already made arrangements. Shen Wenkang went through a full-body check-up, and results were promised by the afternoon.
Though still nervous, everyone except Shen Xian anxiously waited. She was the calmest, knowing exactly why this miracle had happened.
Shen Xian bought drinks and snacks, and the four of them waited in the hospital lounge. Around 4 p.m., she received a call from the doctor—results were in.
They rushed to the office, where the doctor told Shen Xian, “Aside from a few common minor issues, your father is in excellent health. There’s no sign of stroke at all. Just maintain a healthy diet going forward, and everything should be fine.”
Fang Jinglan thanked him repeatedly. “Thank you, Doctor! We’ll be extra careful from now on.”
The doctor glanced at the previous scans, clearly amazed. “This is extremely rare. I’ve never seen someone recover fully from a stroke—usually, it requires lifelong medication. Congratulations.”
“Thank you, Doctor.”
After some polite goodbyes, the family left the office. Only now did the others finally feel at ease.
Shen Xian thought it was the perfect time to pick up Tiantian and take the whole family out for a celebratory meal—something she hadn’t done for her parents in a long while.
