Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 53
Yu Qingwan quickly walked over to Lin Qinghan and Shen Tian, the corners of her lips lifting into a polite smile as she raised her voice slightly to greet Lin Qinghan. “Miss Lin, what a coincidence! We meet again.
Do you mind if I sit with you?”
Lin Qinghan was sitting on the outer side of the bench. Although the inner seat was unoccupied, one would have to get up to access it. Shen Tian sat across from her, and the adjacent seat was piled with the shopping bags Lin Qinghan had been carrying earlier. If Yu Qingwan wanted to join them, Lin Qinghan would have to make room.
Lin Qinghan furrowed her brows slightly. In such a large mall, how had they managed to “run into” each other twice in such a short time? Who would believe that?
Not bothering to spare Yu Qingwan a friendly look, Lin Qinghan replied coldly, “I do mind. Miss Yu, if you have nothing better to do, I suggest you mind your own business instead of paying undue attention to others.”
Yu Qingwan chuckled softly, as if Lin Qinghan had just told a funny joke. Covering her mouth with one hand, she said, “Oh come on, Miss Lin. You’re so amusing. How can you say I’m a stranger to Shen Xian? We go way back.”
Lin Qinghan found her tone nauseating and was starting to get irritated. After all, Shen Xian had only begun to change recently. What had really happened between her and Yu Qingwan in the past? Lin Qinghan truly didn’t know.
Seeing the shift in Lin Qinghan’s expression, Yu Qingwan grew even more smug. “What’s wrong? Are you worried? Shen Xian only acted cold earlier because she’s still mad at me. You have no idea how good she used to be to me—whatever I wanted, she gave me. Alphas tend to have tempers, sure, but once I coax her a little, she’ll come around.”
Lin Qinghan sneered, “That was in the past. Shen Xian has a much better temper now—and she’s no longer falling for your tricks.”
“Well,” Yu Qingwan said nonchalantly, smiling faintly, “you never know until you try.”
Just then, Shen Xian walked over. Yu Qingwan immediately changed her tone, flashing a bright smile. “Shen Xian, I just happened to run into Miss Lin here while I was browsing nearby. We were just chatting.”
Shen Xian narrowed her eyes and said coldly, “If you have something to say, just say it. Who do you think you’re fooling? This is a massive mall. Running into us twice in a row? Who would believe that’s a coincidence?”
Yu Qingwan’s smile froze. She hadn’t expected Shen Xian to call her out so bluntly and didn’t know how to respond.
Lin Qinghan couldn’t help but chuckle. She raised an eyebrow and looked at Yu Qingwan. “Looks like Shen Xian’s really not buying your act anymore, Miss Yu.”
“You—don’t get smug so soon!” Yu Qingwan snapped at Lin Qinghan before turning back to Shen Xian. “Shen Xian, I’ll ask you one more time. I want to talk to you—will you come with me or not?”
Shen Xian let out a dry laugh. “Even if you said it a hundred times, my answer would still be no. Miss, if something’s wrong with you, go see a doctor before it’s too late. Stop wasting our time here.”
“Shen Xian! Fine, we’ll see. You’ll be the one begging me someday,” Yu Qingwan hissed, her eyes reddening with rage. In the past, Shen Xian had been her lapdog. Now she was publicly humiliating her. Furious, she turned and stormed out of the café, though she deliberately walked slowly, hoping Shen Xian would chase after her. But after dragging her feet for several minutes, she realized no one was coming.
She glanced back toward the café, only to see Shen Xian leaning in close to Lin Qinghan, whispering something with a gentle smile.
Once Yu Qingwan left, Shen Xian finally relaxed a little. Seeing the milkshake on the table beside Lin Qinghan, she leaned over and asked, “Qinghan, let me squeeze in. That one’s for me, right?”
Lin Qinghan gave her a sharp look. “Weren’t you getting along just fine with Yu Qingwan? Your tongue didn’t seem to be lacking moisture—you don’t look like someone who needs a cold drink.”
Shen Xian tugged at her arm playfully. “Qinghan, I didn’t want to talk to her. She’s just shameless and insisted on following us. Didn’t you see me drive her off just now?”
Lin Qinghan wanted to ask about what happened years ago—did Shen Xian really like Yu Qingwan that much back then? But the words got stuck in her throat. In the end, she said nothing and moved aside.
Shen Xian sat down and took a sip of the milkshake before turning to tease their daughter. “Tiantian, are you having fun? Is your pudding yummy?”
Shen Tian nodded enthusiastically, her voice soft and sweet. “It’s yummy. But I don’t like that weird auntie from before—she’s annoying. Mama was upset too.”
“Alright then, we’ll stay far away from that weird auntie from now on, okay? Mommy finds her annoying too.” Shen Xian laughed, then glanced at Lin Qinghan—only to find her expression still devoid of warmth.
Shen Xian felt wronged. Today was supposed to be a happy family outing, and now it had turned into a mess thanks to Yu Qingwan.
“Qinghan,” she said gently, inching closer, “she’s gone now. Don’t be upset anymore, okay? We still have to take Tiantian to dinner.”
Lin Qinghan pursed her lips. “Okay,” she replied curtly, but her mood hadn’t improved.
Meanwhile, Yu Qingwan, biting her lip, glared in their direction. She dialed Zhao Qiang’s number, determined to find out what had changed while she was away that made Shen Xian treat her like this.
She ducked into a fast-food restaurant, ordered something random, and sat down. The call connected quickly.
She got straight to the point. “Zhao Qiang, it’s Yu Qingwan. I know you’re close with Shen Xian—I need to ask you something.”
“No need to be so formal, Miss Yu. We’re all friends. If there’s anything I know, I’ll tell you.”
“I just feel like something’s off with Shen Xian lately. Are you guys still in contact? Has she been gambling again or anything?”
“No, she hasn’t been out with us for months. And I haven’t heard anything about her gambling,” Zhao Qiang replied. He was puzzled too—Shen Xian used to be the type who couldn’t go a day without spending money. When had she gotten so proper?
Yu Qingwan hesitated before saying, “I saw her today—with her ex-wife and that daughter of hers. I remember she used to avoid mentioning them at all costs. But they seemed really close. Do you think they’ve gotten back together?”
Zhao Qiang laughed. “No way, Miss Yu. We all know how Shen Xian felt about you. She’s probably just still upset about you suddenly going to the capital. A little coaxing and she’ll come around.”
“Thanks. Once I patch things up with her, I’ll treat everyone to dinner,” Yu Qingwan said, reassured. Shen Xian couldn’t possibly not like her. Even if she used to act like a lovesick puppy, she clearly had money now—and Yu Qingwan had to admit Shen Xian looked a lot better than two years ago, more refined and attractive. She wasn’t ready to give her up.
Back on the other side, Lin Qinghan’s mood hadn’t improved at all. Even during dinner, she seemed distracted. Shen Xian wanted to explain further, but she was afraid bringing up Yu Qingwan would only make things worse. And honestly, while the original Shen Xian had definitely strayed emotionally, she hadn’t physically cheated—Yu Qingwan never gave her the chance. Still, Shen Xian had no idea how to explain all that now.
Dinner passed with both adults weighed down by emotion, while only Shen Tian happily munched away, blissfully unaware of the tension.
“Qinghan,” Shen Xian said cautiously, “let’s head home after this. You look tired.”
“Sure. I don’t feel like walking around anymore. Better not risk another ‘coincidence’ with some shady people,” Lin Qinghan replied without looking at her, eyes focused on her plate.
After the meal, Shen Xian carried Shen Tian while Lin Qinghan handled the shopping bags, and the three of them headed to the underground parking lot. Shen Xian settled the child into her car seat before returning to the driver’s seat. Lin Qinghan sat silently in the back beside Shen Tian.
Shen Xian’s head was about to explode—Yu Qingwan had completely ruined the day. And now Qinghan was truly upset.
Shen Tian, full and satisfied, dozed off in her seat. Shen Xian sighed. Kids had it easy—no drama, no stress.
After parking at home, she gently carried the sleeping Shen Tian upstairs with Lin Qinghan. She carefully took off the child’s shoes, tucked her into bed, and covered her with a blanket before going back down to retrieve the rest of their bags. By the time she returned, Lin Qinghan was no longer in the living room.
Shen Xian sorted the clothes, changed into her pajamas, and peeled off the pheromone suppressant patch on her neck before heading to the bedroom she shared with Lin Qinghan and Shen Tian.
She gently pushed the door open a crack and saw Lin Qinghan lying on the bed with Shen Tian. Shen Xian quietly walked in, intending to lie on the other side—but Lin Qinghan promptly shoved a giant white teddy bear into the empty space, claiming the rest of the bed.
Shen Xian had been spotted before she even entered—the sweet orange scent of her pheromones had given her away.
Feeling wronged, Shen Xian reached for the teddy bear, only for Lin Qinghan to stop her.
“Qinghan,” Shen Xian whispered, “where am I supposed to sleep?”
“There’s no room for you. Go sleep in your own room,” Lin Qinghan replied with a glare.
“Qinghan, I was wrong, okay? Don’t be mad. These days, when I look at Yu Qingwan, all I see is a clown. I honestly don’t feel a shred of interest in her anymore,” Shen Xian pleaded, nearly adding that the woman was straight just to emphasize her innocence.
Lin Qinghan pressed her lips together in thought. People needed to look forward, after all. Shen Xian had finally changed for the better—if she pushed her away now, she might end up giving Yu Qingwan another chance. With a sigh, she moved the teddy bear to the nearby chair.
Shen Xian instantly lit up with a smile and quietly lay down next to Shen Tian. “Thank you, Qinghan. I knew you wouldn’t leave me without a place to sleep.”
Irritated by Shen Xian’s smug tone, Lin Qinghan shot her a glare and whispered, “If you want to stay here, shut up. Don’t wake Tiantian.”
“Got it.” Shen Xian zipped her lips obediently. Even she couldn’t believe how completely Qinghan had tamed her.
As she lay beside their daughter, Shen Xian thought that once her company got off the ground and she had some money, they should move to a bigger place. Shen Tian was growing up—it was time she learned to sleep on her own. That way, she and Qinghan wouldn’t have to worry about disturbing her every time they talked.
