Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 50
“No need, I just don’t want to be home alone. How about I come with you to the office this afternoon?” Lin Qinghan offered, worried she might be delaying Shen Xian’s work, especially since Shen Xian hadn’t been to the office for two days due to her health.
“Sure. Are you hungry? Or do you want to rest in my arms a bit longer?” Shen Xian gently pulled Lin Qinghan closer, her voice soft and tender.
Lin Qinghan blushed slightly and avoided Shen Xian’s gaze. Nestled in her arms, she mumbled, “Let me lean on you a little longer.”
Shen Xian looked down at the red tips of Lin Qinghan’s ears, a faint smile curving her lips. The scent of sweet orange mixed with osmanthus green tea wafted through the living room, blending into a unique fragrance.
“Alright, I’ll make lunch in a bit,” Shen Xian said. She had been up early and busy all morning, so now, with Lin Qinghan warm and soft in her arms, her eyes soon began to close, and she dozed off while sitting.
Lin Qinghan noticed Shen Xian wasn’t moving and glanced up, only to see her fast asleep. There was a smile in her eyes—Shen Xian had clearly been exhausted from work and still rushed home just to make lunch because of her phone call. How could she not grow even more reluctant to let Shen Xian go?
As she thought, Lin Qinghan gently drummed her fingers on Shen Xian’s waist. Seeing she was still sleeping soundly, Lin Qinghan didn’t want to wake her. She carefully tried to move Shen Xian’s arm from around her waist, but the motion stirred her.
Shen Xian blinked. “What’s wrong, Qinghan? Did I fall asleep just now?”
Lin Qinghan smiled. “Nothing. You just looked so peaceful, I didn’t want to disturb you. Why don’t you go rest for a bit? I’ll make lunch.”
Shen Xian grabbed her wrist and said, “No need. I came back to take care of you—how can I let a patient cook? Just wait here, I’ll handle it.” Her voice was husky and low from just waking up, making it sound even gentler.
She told Lin Qinghan to rest while she got up and headed into the kitchen. Shen Xian had already made porridge and side dishes that morning, so lunch came together quickly.
As the scent of sweet orange lingering around Lin Qinghan began to fade, she got up and wandered to the kitchen doorway, leaning on the frame to watch Shen Xian work.
Shen Xian noticed and smiled. “Almost done.”
Lin Qinghan stared at her busy figure and hesitantly asked, “Shen Xian, do you have any plans for the future?”
Shen Xian paused, then smiled. “Why the serious question all of a sudden, Qinghan?”
Lin Qinghan tucked her hair behind her ear. “Nothing really, just asking.”
“Hm… the future,” Shen Xian thought for a moment before replying, “I don’t have any grand ambitions. I just want to take care of my parents, take care of you and Tiantian, and build up the company steadily.” In her past life, Shen Xian had thrown herself into her career, only to die from overwork at a young age. This time around, she didn’t want to make the same mistake. Family mattered more to her now than work ever could.
Lin Qinghan felt her ears grow warm. She glanced up at Shen Xian and muttered, “You better mean it. Don’t say stuff you don’t mean—I take it seriously.”
Shen Xian chuckled as she ladled porridge. “Of course I mean it. When have I ever lied to you?”
Lin Qinghan thought to herself, Just a few months ago, you were full of lies… But she didn’t want to compare the old Shen Xian with the one now. She didn’t want to revisit those mistakes.
“Alright then. I’m taking your word for it.” She smiled, lips curved the whole time. She tried to help carry dishes, but Shen Xian blocked her way.
“You’re still not feeling great—just sit and wait. Isn’t that why I’m here?”
Lin Qinghan bit her lip and gave her a look, but couldn’t stop the smile forming as she turned to head to the dining table.
Soon, Shen Xian brought over the porridge and dishes. As they ate, she asked, “Qinghan, if you’re not feeling well tomorrow, just take another day off.”
“No, I’m mostly fine now,” Lin Qinghan replied. “I just don’t want to see Lu Jianbai.”
“There are so many people at the hospital. He won’t dare do anything to you. Don’t worry about him—I’ll come pick you up after work tomorrow.” Shen Xian figured Lu Jianbai would get what was coming to him soon. Fu Binbin’s people should be moving by now.
“Okay, I’ll wait for you.”
After lunch, they rested a bit, then drove to the office. Once in Shen Xian’s office, she handed Lin Qinghan a pillow and a blanket. “If you’re sleepy, nap on the couch. It’s big enough to lie down.”
With Shen Xian nearby and her sweet orange pheromones lingering in the air, Lin Qinghan really did start feeling drowsy. She snuggled under the blanket and fell asleep right there.
Shen Xian looked at her, smiling. When we redo the office layout, I definitely need to add a rest area—not for working late, but so Qinghan and Tiantian have somewhere to nap when they visit.
When Lin Qinghan woke up again, it was almost 4 p.m. She was still groggy, then remembered she was in Shen Xian’s office. Warmth spread in her chest. She looked up and asked, “Shen Xian, have you ever let anyone else sleep here?”
Shen Xian smiled and walked over to the water dispenser. She poured a cup of warm water and sat beside her. “Of course not. This isn’t a hotel. Why would I let anyone else sleep here? Are you thirsty?”
She handed her the cup.
Lin Qinghan sipped the water, secretly pleased. She glanced at Shen Xian, nudged her arm playfully, and said, “I’m a little hungry now… I want cake from that place downstairs.”
Shen Xian smiled gently. “Sure. Any flavor in mind?”
Lin Qinghan leaned against Shen Xian, holding her arm with one hand and her cup with the other. “Not sure. You pick.”
Shen Xian looked down at her with a smile. “Alright, I’ll choose for you.”
But Lin Qinghan made no move to get up.
Shen Xian chuckled. “Qinghan, if you don’t let go of me, how am I supposed to leave?”
Blushing, Lin Qinghan finally let go. Shen Xian gave her a teasing look before heading out.
The cake shop downstairs had a wide variety. Shen Xian hesitated until a clerk offered help: “These are our most popular. Are you buying for your boyfriend or girlfriend?”
Shen Xian instinctively replied, “I don’t have a boyfriend.”
The clerk grinned. “Ah, so for your girlfriend then? Girls usually prefer matcha or Black Forest, though the ice cream and pork floss ones are popular too.”
“Alright, I’ll take one of each.” Shen Xian figured she’d bring a few back—Qinghan could pick, and the rest could go to the staff.
Meanwhile, Lin Qinghan sat bored in Shen Xian’s office. Remembering how Tiantian had played in Shen Xian’s chair, she wondered: Would she mind if I sat here too? Her thoughts drifted back to Yu Shen Xian.
She still wasn’t sure where Shen Xian’s boundaries lay, and she wanted to test them a little. So she sat down in Shen Xian’s chair and started playing on her phone.
Shen Xian returned, cake box in hand, and found Lin Qinghan in her seat.
With a smile, she leaned over and teased, “President Lin, hard at work? Here’s your afternoon tea—see if it meets your standards.” She cleared the paperwork off the desk and laid out six pieces of cake.
“Which one do you want, President Lin?”
Lin Qinghan blushed and lightly smacked her arm. “Stop teasing.”
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Lin Qinghan got flustered and tried to get up, but Shen Xian held her shoulder down. “No need.”
She called toward the door, “Come in.”
Li Xing entered holding a document for signing. But the moment he saw the scene—“Mrs. Shen” sitting in the boss’s chair surrounded by cake—he backed out quickly.
“President Shen, no rush! I’ll come back tomorrow,” he said, shutting the door.
In the hallway, Yan Qiang asked, “Back already?”
“Duh, like I could stay?” Li Xing whispered. “Boss was inside sweet-talking her wife. How could I interrupt?”
Yan Qiang snickered. “Seems like they’re really close.”
“Of course! Boss is such a good person—of course she treats her wife well,” Li Xing muttered.
Inside, Lin Qinghan pushed Shen Xian lightly. “You’re so annoying.”
Shen Xian only laughed. “Okay, I surrender. But really, you belong in that chair too.”
Lin Qinghan picked up the matcha cake. “I’ll take this one. Save the strawberry for Tiantian. The Black Forest one’s your favorite, right? The rest can go to your staff.”
“Got it. As President Lin commands.” Shen Xian packed the rest and brought them to the staff office.
Li Xing grinned. “President Shen, did your wife treat us today?”
Shen Xian paused, caught off guard by the word “wife.” She and Qinghan weren’t… but explaining would be awkward, so she simply nodded.
Li Xing gave her a knowing smile. “I knew it.”
