Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 49
Shen Xian woke up early to find Lin Qinghan and Shen Tian still sound asleep, a soft smile tugging at the corners of her lips. Moving quietly, she slipped out of bed and went for a morning run. By the time she returned, both Qinghan and the little one were still asleep, so Shen Xian headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the three of them.
Because of her recent susceptibility episode, Lin Qinghan had taken two days off work. Shen Xian planned to take the kid to school herself, letting Lin Qinghan rest a bit longer.
While the three of them were eating breakfast, Shen Xian received a call from Zhao Qiang. It took her a second to recall who he was—one of those freeloading “friends” from the original Shen Xian’s past, who had treated her like an easy mark. She remembered cutting ties with them once before, and Zhao Qiang hadn’t called since.
Frowning slightly, she picked up the call. “Hello? What’s up?”
Zhao Qiang’s overly familiar voice came through the receiver. “Hey, Sister Shen! Long time no see. When are you coming out to hang with the boys again?”
“I’ve been busy lately, and honestly, money’s a bit tight,” Shen Xian replied coolly.
“Come on, Shen-jie, don’t mess with me. Liu Jian saw you driving a Range Rover the other day. Don’t forget us brothers now that you’ve got money!”
Shen Xian gave a cold laugh. “Whether I have money or not is none of your business. What, you think I owe you something? If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
She was already pulling the phone away when Zhao Qiang hurriedly added, “Wait, wait! I swear I’ve got important news—huge news, actually!”
Shen Xian paused, intrigued despite herself. “Then spit it out. I don’t have time for your nonsense.”
“Alright, alright! You remember Yu Qingwan? She’s back in Linhai! We ran into her on the street just a few days ago. Still looks as gorgeous as ever,” Zhao Qiang said, clearly excited, his voice louder than necessary.
Hearing the name, Shen Xian’s brows furrowed. “That’s it? She’s back? So what? I’m not her mother—what’s it got to do with me?” She hung up without waiting for a response.
On the other end, Zhao Qiang was fuming. If they hadn’t been so desperate for a sucker to treat them lately, he wouldn’t have lowered himself to call her at all. It was true that they’d seen Yu Qingwan recently and even chatted with her, and she had casually asked about Shen Xian.
Back when the original Shen Xian and Yu Qingwan had a somewhat ambiguous relationship, she’d often brought her along to gatherings with this group, spending lavishly to maintain face. Now that Yu Qingwan had returned, Zhao Qiang and his buddies were hoping to mooch off her again through Shen Xian.
“Damn it, I went on and on about Yu Qingwan, and Shen Xian didn’t even bite,” Zhao Qiang grumbled, clutching his phone.
“Bro, you think maybe Shen Xian’s not into her anymore?” the chubby guy beside him offered.
“No way,” another chimed in. “Did you forget how she used to act around Qingwan? That woman already had another Alpha lined up, and Shen Xian was still throwing money at her like a fool. I bet now that Shen Xian’s got cash, she thinks she’s above us. We can’t let her off that easy.”
“Exactly,” the chubby guy agreed. “Once she can’t find Yu Qingwan, she’ll come crawling back to us.”
Shen Xian knew perfectly well who Yu Qingwan was—the so-called “white moonlight” of the original Shen Xian. In reality, she was just a manipulative tease. Even when Shen Xian was still married, Yu Qingwan had kept her hanging on, bleeding her dry financially. Then, once she landed a wealthy second-generation Alpha, she ditched Shen Xian without a backward glance. All loss, no gain.
The phone conversation had taken place at the breakfast table, so Lin Qinghan and the little one had heard everything. When Qinghan heard the name Yu Qingwan, her hand tightened unconsciously around her chopsticks, her eyes fixed blankly on her soup bowl.
“Qinghan? What’s wrong? What are you thinking about?” Shen Xian asked when she noticed her silence.
Qinghan shook her head slightly and glanced at her. “Nothing.”
“Alright. Eat a bit more then. There’s still plenty of porridge left in the pot. If you don’t feel like cooking lunch, just reheat the porridge and those two side dishes.”
Still feeling unsettled, Lin Qinghan nodded vaguely. “Okay.”
After breakfast, Shen Xian washed the dishes and, after saying goodbye, left with Shen Tian.
Back at home, Lin Qinghan couldn’t relax at all. That name—Yu Qingwan—lingered in her mind. She remembered back when she and Shen Xian were still married, this Omega had already been lingering around.
There were several times when Qinghan had called Shen Xian, and Yu Qingwan had been right there with her.
But that had been when things between her and Shen Xian had already deteriorated. Qinghan had been deeply hurt and had long since given up, so Yu Qingwan’s involvement hadn’t felt particularly painful back then.
It had been more than two years since their divorce. Yu Qingwan’s name had completely faded from her world—until this morning. Hearing it again now felt like a rock in her stomach. If Shen Xian were still the person she used to be, it wouldn’t matter. But the new Shen Xian had changed. She was so kind and gentle now, not only to her, but to their daughter as well. Qinghan couldn’t help but feel reluctant to let her go.
Frustrated, she burrowed under the covers. Shen Xian was good to her—but their current relationship was confusing. If Shen Xian liked her, she gave no sign of pursuing her. But if she didn’t like her, why would she repeatedly risk her life to protect her?
By all logic, with them living together now, Shen Xian should have had plenty of opportunities to take things further. But her treatment of Qinghan felt more familial than romantic. Qinghan’s mind spun as she tried to figure out what Shen Xian really wanted.
Still, Shen Xian was the one who’d taken the first step. She was the one who protected them. Qinghan couldn’t afford to lose this round so easily. But they both had their own jobs—she couldn’t stay by Shen Xian’s side all the time. She didn’t know if Shen Xian would meet with Yu Qingwan again, but the very thought made her chest ache.
Well, at least she had their daughter on her side. Shen Xian adored Shen Tian. That had to count for something—more than whatever Yu Qingwan had.
After dropping off the kid, Shen Xian went straight to the office to check on the recent performance reports and supervise the renovation work. As for Yu Qingwan, she had already slipped from her mind.
Recently, more and more wealthy clients had started entrusting Shen Xian’s company with their investments. Among them, her closest connection was Fu Binbin—a male Alpha from the prominent Fu family in Linhai. Their family had deep roots and influence in both legal and shady circles. As the youngest son, Fu Binbin was a carefree type, similar to Jiang Xi, often goofing off with friends and getting scolded by his father. Still, he wasn’t a bad person—especially loyal to his friends.
Ever since Shen Xian started helping him turn a profit, his father had been yelling at him less. In return, he treated Shen Xian like a real brother.
Shen Xian leaned back in her office chair after finishing up some paperwork, her thoughts drifting to Lu Jianbai. It was time to settle things with him. Sure, he’d destroyed the evidence, but that didn’t mean she had to play fair. It wasn’t like she wasn’t a law-abiding citizen, after all.
She called Fu Binbin and explained what Lu Jianbai had done. Fu was furious.
“That bastard? Just hearing it makes me want to teach him a lesson!”
Shen Xian chuckled. “Let’s not go that far. We are model citizens, after all. But if President Fu could find someone to ‘remind’ him a little—without leaving any evidence—I’d be very grateful.”
Fu Binbin laughed. “Oh, that’s easy! If you asked me to trade stocks, I’d be useless. But if it’s dealing with scum like him—now that I enjoy. Leave it to me. I’ll take care of it in a few days.”
“One more thing—leave his company alone. I want to handle that part myself.”
“Got it. Just wait for my good news. With us model citizens around, people like him won’t even know what hit him!”
After making the arrangements, Shen Xian hung up. She knew the Lu family’s company was already on the brink of collapse. Ever since they offended Mu Siyu, none of their construction materials had sold in Linhai. Even when they offered steep discounts, no one would touch them. Shen Xian figured it was only a matter of time before they went bankrupt.
Meanwhile, at home, Lin Qinghan had spent the whole morning staring at her phone, debating whether or not to call. Eventually, she gritted her teeth and dialed Shen Xian’s number. It connected quickly.
“…Are you coming home for lunch?” she asked stiffly.
Shen Xian immediately grew concerned. “Qinghan, are you still not feeling well? Wait for me—I’ll come right home.”
Hearing her tone, Lin Qinghan suddenly felt reluctant to let her rush over. “It’s nothing. You don’t need to come back.”
“It’s fine, really. Don’t make lunch yourself. Just wait for me. Close your eyes and rest a bit—when you open them, I’ll be there. Alright? I’m heading out now. Be good and get some rest.”
As she spoke, her voice softened, and a smile appeared on her face. For some reason, she rather liked it when Qinghan relied on her.
When she arrived home, Qinghan was lying on the couch waiting for her. Shen Xian changed her shoes and sat down beside her, smiling. “What are you doing up? I told you to rest.”
As Shen Xian leaned closer, the scent of her sweet-orange pheromones grew stronger, making Lin Qinghan’s heart flutter. She thought to herself, At least I’m the one closest to her right now. I won’t let anyone else swoop in.
There was only a fist’s-width of space between them. If she just leaned slightly, she’d be in Shen Xian’s arms. Just imagining it made her ears turn red. Gritting her teeth, she stole a glance at Shen Xian—then
leaned over, resting her head on her shoulder. “I couldn’t sleep. Felt a little dizzy just now.”
Her hand gently wrapped around Shen Xian’s waist.
Shen Xian immediately asked, “Are you feeling better now? Anywhere else uncomfortable?”
Lin Qinghan, still nestled against her shoulder, shook her head. She was close enough to the scent gland now that the sweet-orange pheromone was making her feel lightheaded—in a good way. Even her voice softened. “No, just… let me stay like this for a while.”
Worried she wasn’t comfortable, Shen Xian shifted her gently into her arms. “You should’ve told me earlier if you weren’t feeling well. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have gone to the office at all.”
Lin Qinghan snuggled deeper into her embrace, her head resting against her shoulder. It wasn’t physical discomfort that troubled her—it was the resurfacing of a name she’d long buried. And yet she couldn’t even bring herself to tell Shen Xian about it.
The pheromones were calming. Maybe it was good, she thought. A little crisis might do her some good—might even help her test how far Shen Xian was willing to go, and just where her boundaries really were.
