Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 48
That afternoon, Shen Xian was feeling a little better. She quietly opened Lin Qinghan’s bedroom door, saw that she was still sleeping, and decided to take the car keys and pick up their little one herself. Before leaving, she made sure to let Fang Jinglan know, so they wouldn’t both end up picking her up.
When Fang Jinglan received Shen Xian’s call, she chuckled and asked, “So, how was it, Shen Xian? Did you and Qinghan have fun yesterday?”
Shen Xian thought about it and decided not to tell the full truth. She replied casually, “It was okay, just a little hot. We sweated a lot.”
Fang Jinglan rubbed her pants thoughtfully before asking, “Be honest with Mom—are you and Qinghan back together?”
Shen Xian sighed. Her mom was clearly overthinking again. She and Qinghan had just gone on a short outing, nothing more. “Mom, don’t overthink it. We just went on a trip together. You know how Qinghan is—she doesn’t have many friends here. Besides me, there probably wasn’t anyone else she could invite.”
Then, remembering something, she warned, “Also, don’t mention this to Qinghan. If she hears I said that, she might think I have feelings for her. That’d be awkward—how would I continue staying with her to take care of Tiantian?”
Fang Jinglan sighed, “Alright, alright. I was just asking. Anyway, make sure you pick up Tiantian and drive safe, okay?”
After chatting for a bit longer, Shen Xian hung up and drove off to pick up her daughter.
Having not seen Shen Xian or Lin Qinghan all day, Tiantian missed them terribly—especially after seeing the photos Shen Xian had posted. When she saw Shen Xian coming to pick her up, she ran over on her little legs. Shen Xian was about to scoop her up, but her aching arms made her think better of it. Instead, she gently ruffled Tiantian’s little hair bun and asked, “Did Tiantian miss Mommy and Mama?”
Tiantian hugged Shen Xian’s leg and replied in her soft baby voice, “Yes! Mommy, did you and Mama have fun at work yesterday? I saw your photos—it looked really fun. Can you bring me next time?”
Shen Xian pinched her daughter’s cheek and smiled. “Okay, next time we’ll take Tiantian too. Now, let’s go home.”
“Mm-hmm!” Tiantian nodded excitedly and happily climbed into her car seat.
By the time Lin Qinghan woke up, Shen Xian and Tiantian hadn’t come home yet. The house was quiet, so she wandered through a few rooms but didn’t find them. She still felt sluggish and drained. On impulse, she pulled out her phone and scrolled through the supermarket’s fruit delivery options. Her finger hovered over the image of sweet oranges.
She still remembered sweet oranges had once been her favorite fruit—but ever since Shen Xian had hurt her, she hadn’t touched them. She was still in her susceptibility phase, and because Shen Xian had recently used pheromones to soothe her, she couldn’t use inhibitors for now. But that woman had already slapped on a pheromone-blocking patch, leaving her unable to smell even a hint of sweet orange. And with the state of their relationship, she couldn’t exactly say anything outright.
But even if she couldn’t say it directly, she could still hint. Besides, it had been a long time since she’d had sweet oranges—buying some wasn’t suspicious. Worst case, she’d just enjoy the taste and try to quench her cravings that way. She added the oranges to her cart and even threw in a few other fruits to make it look more natural.
So when Shen Xian returned home with Tiantian, the first thing she saw was Lin Qinghan sitting on the sofa, eating sweet oranges. A plate of freshly cut fruit sat beside her.
Tiantian had missed Lin Qinghan terribly. The moment she saw her, she let go of Shen Xian’s hand and ran over. “Mama~ Tiantian missed Mama!”
Smiling, Lin Qinghan scooped her up, then fed her a spoonful of sweet orange. Tiantian happily munched away.
Shen Xian glanced at the oranges on the coffee table, puzzled. She could’ve sworn Qinghan hated sweet oranges—she remembered buying them once, and Qinghan hadn’t touched them.
After changing into indoor shoes, Shen Xian sat down beside them and asked, “Qinghan, I thought you didn’t like sweet oranges?”
Lin Qinghan glared at her. If it weren’t for Shen Xian wearing that pheromone-blocking patch, would she even need to eat these? Clearly, Shen Xian had no idea what she was trying to convey.
“It’s been a while, and I suddenly wanted some. Is that not allowed?” Qinghan raised an eyebrow.
Shen Xian quickly smiled and said, “Of course it’s allowed. You can eat whatever you want. Honestly, I like oranges too.”
Lin Qinghan looked at her. Seeing Shen Xian still not getting the hint, she suddenly found the orange in her mouth less sweet.
She even began to suspect Shen Xian was pretending not to understand—but looking into those sincere, clueless eyes, she started to doubt herself.
Shen Xian ate a few pieces of fruit, then turned to Qinghan. “What would you like for dinner? You didn’t eat much at lunch. I can make anything you want.”
Lin Qinghan glanced past Shen Xian’s neck, eyes pausing on the spot where her gland was covered by hair. Her tone turned faintly resentful. “I don’t have much of an appetite. Just make whatever. Doesn’t matter.”
She was craving something else anyway—and it wasn’t food.
Shen Xian assumed Qinghan still wasn’t fully recovered from her susceptibility period. “Alright. I’ll make something light. You should eat at least a little. Skipping meals will only make you feel worse.”
Qinghan didn’t feel like talking and simply nodded. Shen Xian got up and headed to the kitchen.
Left alone with Tiantian, Lin Qinghan toyed with the little bun on her daughter’s head. Suddenly, she thought of something, pulled Tiantian around to face her, and whispered, “Sweetie, would you like Mama and Mommy to sleep with you tonight?”
Tiantian lit up. From what she could remember, Mama and Mommy had never slept with her together before. She nodded quickly, “Yes, Tiantian wants that~”
“Then later, go tell Mommy. Say you want her to sleep with us tonight, okay?”
Tiantian blinked. “But… but Mommy has her own room. Will she really stay?”
Lin Qinghan nodded. “She loves you so much. I’m sure she’ll agree. Go on.”
She set her daughter down, and Tiantian gave her a bright smile before waddling off to the kitchen.
Shen Xian heard the little footsteps and wasn’t surprised when her leg was suddenly hugged again.
She squatted down and asked, “What’s my little snack monster doing in here? Dinner’s not ready yet. Go wait with Mama a bit longer.”
Tiantian’s big eyes darted around nervously. Worried her request wouldn’t be persuasive enough, she clung to Shen Xian’s neck and whispered, “Mommy… Mama wants you to sleep with us tonight. Is that okay?”
Shen Xian was caught off guard. Why would Qinghan want her to sleep with them? Then she remembered what the doctor had said: if an Omega doesn’t use inhibitors during their susceptibility period, they need
Alpha pheromone soothing. She had totally forgotten—and had stupidly put on a pheromone-blocking patch. No wonder Qinghan seemed off today.
While she was still processing, Tiantian nudged her again. “Please, Mommy~?”
Shen Xian came back to her senses and nodded, “Okay. Mommy will sleep with you two. Now go play for a bit, alright? Mommy needs to finish cooking, and there’s smoke in the kitchen—be careful.”
“Okay! I’ll go tell Mama!” Tiantian beamed. She knew Mommy always listened to Mama!
Back in the living room, Tiantian threw herself into Lin Qinghan’s arms. “Mama, Mama! Mommy said yes! She’s going to sleep with us!”
Qinghan scooped her up and kissed her chubby cheek, making her giggle with joy.
That day, Lin Qinghan hadn’t worn a pheromone blocker. The faint scent of osmanthus and well tea still lingered in the room. Cursing herself for her negligence, Shen Xian quickly washed her hands and peeled off the blocker from her neck. She didn’t deliberately release her pheromones, just let the sweet orange scent gradually leak out from her gland.
Not long after, the room began to fill with the scent.
Lin Qinghan was munching on oranges, her mood still a little sour, when suddenly she caught the familiar fragrance. Her eyes lit up immediately.
She took a few deep breaths. The discomfort in her gland began to ease, and the fatigue in her body slowly faded. She wondered—had Shen Xian finally caught on and removed the blocker?
Half an hour later, Shen Xian brought the food to the table. Lin Qinghan’s eyes instinctively drifted to Shen Xian’s neck. Sure enough, the patch was gone. She couldn’t stop the smile tugging at her lips.
Shen Xian ladled soup into bowls for both Lin Qinghan and Tiantian. “You barely ate lunch. Try this bone broth—I think it turned out well.”
Now that her favorite scent was in the air, Lin Qinghan’s mood improved. “Okay. Then I’ll eat a bit more.”
Tiantian, munching on a bun and sipping soup, beamed. “Mommy, it’s yummy! I like it!”
Shen Xian smiled. “If you like it, Mommy will make it again next time. Eat up.”
That night, Lin Qinghan took a bath early and went to bed with Tiantian, in a noticeably better mood. They were giggling and playing on the bed when Shen Xian knocked and came in.
Tiantian lit up and pointed to the right side of the bed. “Mommy, you sleep here! I’ll sleep in the middle! That way both Mama and Mommy are with Tiantian!”
Shen Xian laughed. “Alright. Tiantian sleeps in the middle.”
Though Lin Qinghan didn’t say anything, she glanced over at Shen Xian. With only their daughter between them, their eyes occasionally met as they played.
Totally unaware of the adult undercurrents, Tiantian held up a bedtime storybook like a little grown-up and said, “Mama tells me one story, then Mommy tells me one more. Then I can sleep really sweetly~”
“Okay. Mama will read first.” Lin Qinghan pinched her daughter’s cheek and began reading the story of a little lion. Shen Xian watched her with a gentle smile, enjoying the peaceful moment.
Tiantian had played too much during the day. Before the story was over, her eyelids drooped, and she fell asleep, breathing softly.
Shen Xian pulled up the blanket and shared a quiet smile with Lin Qinghan.
Once she was sure Tiantian was asleep, Shen Xian turned to Lin Qinghan. “Qinghan… I’m sorry. I forgot you still needed pheromone soothing. It wasn’t until Tiantian told me you wanted me to stay tonight that I remembered.”
Lin Qinghan was calm at first, but the end of that sentence made her frown. What did she mean she wanted Shen Xian to stay? That was Tiantian’s idea, not hers!
“No, it was Tiantian who wanted you to stay. I’m not that bored,” she denied quickly, her ears reddening.
Shen Xian, lying just across their daughter, noticed the blush. She smiled and softly teased, “And the oranges earlier? Just suddenly wanted to eat those too?”
The flush spread from Lin Qinghan’s ears to her cheeks. She glared at Shen Xian. “Obviously! What else could it be? Don’t read too much into it. You’re so annoying. I’m going to sleep.”
With that, she turned her back to Shen Xian, only showing her the back of her head.
Shen Xian bit her lip, suppressing a grin. “Alright, alright, my bad. Going to sleep already? Don’t want to chat a little?”
She reached across their daughter and poked Lin Qinghan’s shoulder.
Lin Qinghan shrugged it off and mumbled, “Chat about what? You’re not Tiantian. You don’t need a bedtime story to sleep. I’m done. Talk to yourself.”
Shen Xian stared at her back, amused. Did I really piss her off again? All I did was tell the truth… But why go through all this trouble? If she really wanted company, couldn’t she just say so herself instead of getting Tiantian to deliver the message?
