Transmigrated into a Classic Dog-Blood Drama as the Scummy Alpha - Chapter 47
When Shen Xian woke up again, the sky was already beginning to lighten. Sunlight streamed in through a corner of the window, illuminating the hospital room. The first thing she noticed upon waking was a warm weight in her arms—Lin Qinghan was curled up against her, sleeping soundly.
Just last night, they had gone to sleep side by side, properly separated. But now they were tightly wrapped around each other. Shen Xian’s lips curled into a soft smile. This was the first time—across both her lives—that she had ever slept while holding someone in her arms. The feeling was strange, yet comforting. And the person in her arms was Lin Qinghan, someone she had grown familiar with, making it all the more heartwarming. Much better than hugging a cold pillow in her previous life.
She looked down at Lin Qinghan’s peaceful face and couldn’t help but think how adorable she looked when asleep. Her long eyelashes fluttered slightly with each breath. Shen Xian couldn’t resist gently brushing them with her fingertip. The lashes tickled her fingers like tiny brushes, making her fingertips—and her heart—itch with affection.
Glancing at the time, she saw it was already 7:00 a.m. Doctors typically did their morning rounds around this time to check on patients’ conditions.
She carefully placed her hand over the area near Lin Qinghan’s gland. The heat had subsided, and the swelling had mostly gone down. Seeing this, Shen Xian finally felt at ease.
She gave Lin Qinghan’s soft, pale cheek a gentle poke, which earned her a frown from the sleeping woman, who rubbed her face against Shen Xian’s neck in protest but showed no sign of waking.
Shen Xian, amused, gently pinched Lin Qinghan’s cheek. Her skin was so smooth and supple, like it could be squeezed and yield droplets of water. After some coaxing, Lin Qinghan finally stirred, pushing away
Shen Xian’s hand with a grumble of protest. “What are you doing…”
Still half-asleep, her voice was soft and sweet, delicate as a whisper.
Shen Xian chuckled. “Qinghan, time to wake up. The doctors will be doing their rounds soon. If everything checks out, we’ll be discharged.”
Lin Qinghan slowly came to her senses and opened her eyes, meeting Shen Xian’s gaze. Shen Xian was smiling down at her, eyes full of warmth. Lin Qinghan stared for a few seconds before hurriedly burying her face back into Shen Xian’s chest. But the blush creeping up from her ears betrayed her.
Shen Xian’s smile deepened. She wrapped one arm around Lin Qinghan’s waist and whispered teasingly in her ear, “You said I was the clingy one… but looking at this, isn’t it you who’s more attached?”
At her words, the blush on Lin Qinghan’s ears darkened and spread all the way to her neck. Shen Xian figured her cheeks must be flushed too.
Before Shen Xian could say anything more, Lin Qinghan reached up, blindly found Shen Xian’s lips, and covered them with her hand.
“You’re not allowed to talk nonsense. This must’ve happened because you toss and turn in your sleep. Besides, I’m the Omega here—I’m the one at a disadvantage.” Lin Qinghan was still sprawled on top of Shen Xian as she said this. Shen Xian’s warm breath brushed against her palm, making her feel even more flustered. She quickly sat up and turned her back to her.
Shen Xian, worried she might get up too quickly, reached out to steady her from behind and said with a smile, “Yes, yes, it’s all my fault. I’m a restless sleeper. Poor Qinghan had to suffer.”
Hearing the amused lilt in her voice, Lin Qinghan knew Shen Xian was teasing again. She wanted to pinch her thigh in protest—but when she remembered how Shen Xian had carried her down the mountain all alone, she couldn’t bring herself to do it. In the end, she gave her a light slap instead and muttered, cheeks still red, “At least you know I had a hard time. And don’t twist the story—it was you who hugged me first.”
Shen Xian leaned forward, still grinning. “Alright, alright. Whatever Qinghan says is right. I’m clingy, and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
Lin Qinghan bit her lip and huffed, “As long as you know.”
Shen Xian chuckled helplessly. Well, as far as she was concerned, Qinghan would always be right. She got out of bed and went to wash her face. When she returned, Lin Qinghan had also gotten up and put on her shoes. The flush on her face and ears was gradually fading.
Shen Xian walked over and asked softly, “How are you feeling? Anywhere still uncomfortable?”
Lin Qinghan’s susceptibility episode had passed, and while her body was still a little weak, she was mostly back to normal. She shook her head. “I’m fine now.”
Shen Xian nodded. “Still, you should take a day or two off. No need to rush back to work. This whole incident was definitely premeditated. On the bus and during the hike, we only drank the bottled water Lu
Jianbai handed out. There must’ve been something in it. And when we came down, even the trash bag I threw the bottles into was gone. He planned it all too well.”
Lin Qinghan sat at the edge of the bed, her brows drawing together. “I never imagined he’d do something like this. Lu Jianbai wasn’t like this before. No wonder he tried to speak to me alone earlier. Thank goodness I didn’t go with him.” Just thinking about it gave her chills. If her susceptibility had flared up in the middle of the group, there were plenty of Alphas present… She didn’t even want to imagine what could’ve happened.
Seeing her frown deepen, Shen Xian sat beside her and gently rubbed her back. “It’s okay, Qinghan. You have me now. I won’t let anyone hurt you or Tiantian. You two are the most important people in my life.”
Though she spoke softly, every word struck straight to Lin Qinghan’s heart.
She had always borne everything alone—even crying was something she did quietly, in hiding. But now, someone was here with her. Just the thought warmed her chest. Even though something bad had happened, the fear wasn’t as overwhelming anymore.
She had never been the assertive type. The cold demeanor she showed others was a shield—to protect Tiantian. But now… maybe, just maybe, she could have a shoulder to lean on too. Though she still wasn’t entirely sure.
Her body, however, acted faster than her mind. Lin Qinghan slowly leaned her head onto Shen Xian’s shoulder.
Shen Xian wrapped an arm around her waist and whispered, “Don’t be afraid. Even if we don’t have proof right now, we’ll find a way to bring him down.”
Lin Qinghan, however, didn’t feel reassured. She looked up and warned seriously, “You’re not allowed to do anything reckless. And you’d better not call any of your shady old friends to go beat him up.”
Shen Xian smiled, looking down at her. “Don’t worry. I’ve got you and Tiantian—why would I risk anything illegal? I’m a model citizen, you know.”
“I’m serious, Shen Xian,” Lin Qinghan said, her tone quiet but firm. “Don’t throw yourself into danger just to punish someone else. Tiantian and I would worry about you.”
“Okay. I’ll listen. Whatever Qinghan says, I’ll do.”
About ten minutes later, the doctors came by for rounds. Seeing that both patients were stable, they issued discharge papers for the two of them.
After paying the bills, Shen Xian and Lin Qinghan left the hospital. Neither had changed clothes the night before. Their clothes were wrinkled and still damp from sweat, making them look quite disheveled.
Shen Xian hailed a cab, and before long, they arrived home.
Lin Qinghan glanced at her and asked, “Do you want to shower first, or should I?”
Shen Xian smiled. “You go first. You haven’t fully recovered yet. Take a warm shower and get some sleep.”
Lin Qinghan nodded and headed toward the bathroom with her pajamas. Just as she reached the doorway, she paused and turned back. “Thank you, Shen Xian.”
Shen Xian, resting on the sofa, smiled back. “We’re close enough that you don’t need to thank me. Really, Qinghan.”
Back at the hospital, Shen Xian had noticed Lin Qinghan’s affection level had increased to 40. But at the time, she had thought—she’d rather not have those extra 20 points if it meant Qinghan wouldn’t have to suffer. Because to her, Lin Qinghan was no longer just a mission objective.
Half an hour later, Lin Qinghan emerged from the bathroom. Only then did Shen Xian go in to shower. The faint scent of osmanthus and well tea still lingered in the air.
She touched the back of her neck and realized she had forgotten to put on a pheromone suppressant patch.
She remembered how, in the beginning, Qinghan used to spray pheromone blockers all over the house because she was afraid Shen Xian might release her scent carelessly. Later, as their relationship improved, Shen Xian started wearing suppressant patches on her own, and Qinghan eventually stopped spraying the house. Thinking of this, Shen Xian decided she should definitely put on a patch before going back out—no need to make Qinghan worry.
After drying her hair, Shen Xian returned to the living room. Lin Qinghan was still sitting on the sofa.
Shen Xian walked over, smiling. “Why don’t you go sleep in the bedroom?”
Because she hadn’t applied the patch earlier, the soft citrus scent of her pheromones still lingered faintly in the air. Lin Qinghan noticed it immediately.
Her throat tightened. Even though the worst of her susceptibility had passed, an Omega’s instinct was to seek out their bonded partner for comfort.
She glanced at Shen Xian several times but ultimately bit her lip and swallowed the words she wanted to say. “I’m going now.”
“Okay. I’ll take a nap too,” Shen Xian said as Lin Qinghan stood and left.
Back in her room, Shen Xian immediately applied a fresh pheromone suppressant patch to the back of her neck before lying down to rest.
When Shen Xian woke again, it was already afternoon. She cooked and called Lin Qinghan out to eat. Lin Qinghan sat across from her, picking at her rice with her chopsticks. The citrus scent she had smelled earlier was gone.
She looked at the back of Shen Xian’s neck—at some point, she had already put on the patch.
Lin Qinghan had once appreciated how respectful and disciplined Shen Xian was. But now, for some reason, she found it… annoying. Without that familiar scent, even her appetite had faded.
As if on cue, Shen Xian looked up and asked, “Qinghan, what’s wrong? You haven’t eaten much. Is the food not to your taste today?”
Lin Qinghan glared at her and grumbled, “Mm. It’s not good.”
Shen Xian, puzzled, tried another bite. “I thought it tasted fine…”
Not wanting to respond, Lin Qinghan set her chopsticks down, stood up, and muttered, “Then you can eat it all yourself,” before walking back to her room.
