Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 34
“If I had to pick a favorite scent, what would I choose?” Gu Li, riding her bike ahead, was thrown this odd question: “Is this some kind of test?”
Jiang Nian, who hadn’t slept well last night, was dozing against her back. “Just answer the question, come on.”
“Milk tea?” Gu Li recalled the sweet milk tea fragrance that always clung to Jiang Nian whenever she hugged her, and the intoxicating scent of her blood that her vampiric instincts picked up during her rut.
Though the strange condition was hard to accept, she genuinely loved that aroma so much so that she often found herself craving it.
Exactly. Nestled securely in the lavender-scented omega’s embrace, Jiang Nian mentally rejected the message she’d received last night. Gu Li was clearly complimenting how her pheromones drew her in.
All that nonsense the alpha teacher had spouted about low pheromone compatibility and “she’s not the right omega for you” simply didn’t apply to them.
“My favorite is lavender!” Jiang Nian’s closed eyes curved into crescents as she pressed the other side of her face against Gu Li’s back, quiet once more.
“We’re here.” Gu Li dismounted and patted Jiang Nian, who was still squinting sleepily. “Why have you been so tired lately?”
Her free hand slid under the girl’s arm, ready to lift her off the bike.
“Just a little longer…” Jiang Nian mumbled, her head drooping. With her front support gone, the arm around her became her new anchor.
So Gu Li, who had no qualms about spoiling her, proceeded to maneuver the bike through the school gates under the watchful eyes of the campus monitors and surrounding students, one hand steadying the dozing omega, the other gripping the handlebars.
They weren’t breaking any rules, right? She had dismounted and was walking the bike in it just happened to have a passenger.
The uncomfortable jostling of her dangling head finally jolted Jiang Nian fully awake. Dazed, she remained seated as Gu Li locked the bike while still supporting her.
“Awake now?”
The steadying hand withdrew as the alpha bent to finish locking the bike, her movements instantly smoother.
Jiang Nian stood up from the seat, the brief nap leaving her refreshed. She stepped forward and naturally looped her arm through Gu Li’s.
“Happy birthday, Gu Li.”
The words, as if rehearsed a thousand times, carried Jiang Nian’s distinctive lilt.
Her companion paused to ruffle her hair. “Thanks, Nian Nian.”
Truthfully, she’d already heard it multiple times since morning. But the speaker clearly felt it wasn’t enough throughout their morning chatter, the birthday wishes kept resurfacing, right up until they reached the bakery, where Jiang Nian seemed ready to say it again.
“My Nian Nian sounds like a birthday greeting machine, haha!” Gu Li laughed, pulling her into the shop where rows of cakes left them dazzled.
Jiang Nian quietly thought to herself:
Because I’m endlessly grateful for this day, the anniversary of the world first being graced by you, my favorite person.
Their cake didn’t need to be large. They found a small booth in the weekday-quiet bakery. The server provided candles and a lighter before closing the booth’s door behind them.
The cake wasn’t custom-made and wasn’t particularly fancy, just a small one placed on the table between them, adorned with a “19” candle and flanked by the iced drinks they had each ordered.
The original vampire’s birthday wasn’t today, but Gu Li’s was. This was her first real birthday in this world, and Jiang Nian was by her side.
The candle was lit, and Gu Li closed her eyes though she didn’t make a wish. The lights in the small private booth were turned off, and she peeked through barely parted lashes at Jiang Nian’s face, illuminated by the candlelight as she sang “Happy Birthday.”
…
The bicycle slowly made its way toward the school, but the Omega sitting behind her didn’t look well. The moment that iced cola had gone down, an odd sensation had settled in a discomfort that felt exactly like the times she’d eaten something cold before her period.
Her nape, rather than her stomach, began to ache with a dull, throbbing pain. She mentally calculated her heat cycle, realizing it wasn’t due for another couple of weeks.
The way her hands gradually clenched tighter didn’t escape the Alpha in front of her. Gu Li braced the bike with one foot and turned her head slightly. “What’s wrong?”
“I think ” Before she could finish mentioning her heat, a sharp, stabbing pain shot through the back of her neck.
Cold sweat beaded on her forehead, just like the miserable state she’d been in during past menstrual cramps. But unlike her period, her heat came with an overwhelming craving for an Alpha’s pheromones. Unable to resist, she buried her face completely into Gu Li’s clothes.
The warmth pressed against her back alerted Gu Li. She turned the bike around and headed toward a small clinic she’d spotted earlier.
Half an hour later, the doctor finished administering a suppressant injection to the Omega sitting before him. “Irregular sleep patterns shortly after differentiation caused your heat to come early. It’s nothing serious. The pain is from drinking something cold, just be more careful when your heat is approaching next time.”
Gu Li nodded repeatedly, but the Omega beside her didn’t seem any more comfortable despite the suppressant.
Her S-rank Omega constitution made her pheromone cravings during this heat even more intense. Wave after wave of heat surged through her nape, consuming her. She slumped weakly into the Alpha’s arms, clawing at the back of her neck in discomfort. Having experience with removing suppressant patches, she didn’t need much effort to peel hers halfway off.
It was already time for the first afternoon class. Gu Li, who had originally planned to take the medication prescribed by Specialist Ji once they returned to school, once again felt the scorching heat of her glands reacting to the Omega’s pheromones.
The aggrieved kitten in her arms sniffled, her face flushed with the heat-induced fever. Tears of physiological distress slid down her cheeks. Gu Li, no saint, was flooded with memories of the last time she’d nearly marked her. Frantically, she grabbed Jiang Nian’s restless hands and covered the partially exposed Omega gland again.
But the pheromones that had already leaked out couldn’t be contained.
The clinic wasn’t too crowded, most patients were there for cold treatments, sitting listlessly in the main hall with IV drips. Many of the stuffy-nosed Alphas suddenly caught a whiff of an intoxicating sweetness in the air.
The pheromones of an S-class Omega are irresistibly attractive to all Alphas. Every Alpha in the room had their attention seized by these pheromones, and Gu Li immediately felt several piercing gazes burning into her back. Even the doctor, who was the second closest, sensed something was wrong.
“Don’t just sit there! Your classmate’s Omega rank is unexpectedly high, only the specialized suppressants prescribed during pheromone registration will work on her. Hurry up and take her into the isolation room!” Covering his nose, he pulled open the door to the isolation room behind him, signaling Gu Li to carry the girl inside.
If these S-class Omega pheromones spread any further, many patients in his small clinic would go into a frenzy.
Suppressing the strange sensations in her own body, the Alpha, whose teeth were beginning to itch, carried the little kitten in her arms into the isolation room. The instinct to mark, as described by her physiology teacher, was slowly surfacing within her.
“It hurts…” The person in her arms began repeating the same actions as before. The door behind them had already closed, leaving only the two of them in the small room. With both hands occupied holding Jiang Nian, Gu Li couldn’t stop her from tearing off the suppressant patch that had blocked most of the pheromones.
A rich milk tea scent began to spread from her embrace, seeping into every corner of the room. Gu Li felt as though she wasn’t holding a girl but a cup of her favorite milk tea, except it was scalding hot. In the confined space with no air circulation, the Omega’s milk tea pheromones inevitably saturated the entire room. Every breath Gu Li took was filled with the overpowering aroma.
Her glands, already burning from the pheromones outside, throbbed violently again. Her mind was a chaotic mess of uncontrollable thoughts.
She tightly wrapped the Omega, who was emitting an intoxicating scent, in a blanket. Jiang Nian, already radiating alarming heat, whimpered in discomfort.
Gu Li deliberately kept her distance, retreating to the door and knocking on it, hoping to ask Dr. Ying for a gas mask so she could stay lucid while accompanying Jiang Nian. She hadn’t taken the medication from Specialist Ji on time and wasn’t sure whether her current state was a normal Alpha reaction or a vampire’s instinctual response.
Though she had managed to control her instincts well over the past few days, this situation was far too precarious to take lightly. She didn’t dare risk it.
The door hadn’t looked particularly sturdy from the outside, so why did it sound so solid when she knocked?
“Hey, student! What are you doing?” The doctor’s faint voice came from outside.
Gu Li shouted at the door, “Doctor! Open up! I’m an Alpha too! And didn’t you say specialized suppressants are needed to control her heat? Bring them here!”
“This small clinic can’t get those kinds of suppressants. And precisely because you’re an Alpha, you need to mark your Omega quickly before her pheromones trigger a heat wave in everyone outside!” This time, the doctor’s voice sounded as if he were speaking right against the door, making Gu Li’s ear tingle from the vibration.
The omega behind her freed her hands from the blankets. The suppressants couldn’t contain the heat of her first day at all. She poked her head out completely, the scent gland on the back of her neck continuously releasing pheromones in the confined space of the isolation room.
The milk tea-scented pheromones seemed to have a mind of their own, slowly coiling around the alpha standing by the door. Jiang Nian barely propped herself up, her gaze dark and fixed on the alpha’s turned back.
“Sister Gu.” That soft, sweet voice halted Gu Li’s intention to call for the doctor to open the door again. Slowly, she turned around.
