Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 33
Since Gu Li had managed to find her way here, it meant she already knew about this course. As an omega, claiming she was here to learn alpha enhancement techniques to improve herself wouldn’t hold water. Had Gu Li already noticed something?
The omega guiltily glanced at the person before her.
Jiang Nian’s mind raced as she tried to come up with a plausible explanation for her actions.
The alpha in front of her, seeing her silence, bent slightly and reached out to remove her mask. With half of the kitten-like face now uncovered, those watery eyes gazing up made it hard for Gu Li to continue pressing her.
“At first, I was fooled by the course title too, thinking it was some intense training. But by the second lesson, the professor started teaching us how to enhance an alpha’s personal charisma. After today’s class, I really feel like I’ve found direction. So it turns out to be a legitimate course, except for that first lesson…” A nearby alpha’s words happened to reach both their ears.
The moment Gu Li removed her mask, Jiang Nian adjusted her expression beneath it perfectly. She put on a look of pleasant surprise at seeing Gu Li: “I forgot to tell you on course selection day, my internet was bad so I couldn’t choose anything else. Since electives carry credits, I picked this one. But this ‘How Alphas Can Improve Themselves’ course isn’t bad. The professor shares knowledge that applies not just to alphas but omegas too. Today I learned quite a few tips about enhancing personal presence.”
Her voice remained soft and smooth, without the slightest hesitation, as if this were the absolute truth.
Remembering that Gu Li might have seen the alpha self-assessment guide, she decided to address that too: “The professor also gave us an alpha self-assessment guide. Mu Lan found it interesting, so I had him fill it out and submit it to the professor.”
Her explanation was flawless, Gu Li couldn’t find any holes in the omega’s story. Except for that brief pause when she’d been caught by the shoulder earlier, the little kitten’s behavior was completely normal.
But if they were both alphas, why hadn’t Jiang Nian asked her instead? Gu Li was about to voice this question after all, they sat together and could easily communicate. Shouldn’t Jiang Nian’s first thought have been to approach her?
“Why are you here? Shouldn’t you be in math competition tutoring right now?” Seizing the initiative before the next question could come, the omega deftly turned the tables.
Oh, that must have been the last class that day. While I was in math competition prep, Nian Nian went with Mu Lan to the art studio for training. So it made sense Mu Lan would have seen that alpha assessment guide first.
The alpha was left speechless. Opening and closing her mouth awkwardly, she offered a clumsy explanation: “I didn’t feel like studying in the library today. Since school’s over, are you heading to the art studio with Mu Lan? Let me walk you to the gate.”
Alpha reached out and took the little kitten’s hand. It had been so long since they’d walked home from school together, the last time they’d held hands like this was probably back in the previous semester.
Jiang Nian let her hold it, only slowly letting go as they neared the school gate. Mu Lan’s family car was already waiting there. She turned to Alpha with a sweet smile, “Goodbye, Gu Li. See you tomorrow.”
It had been a while since Jiang Nian called her “Gu Gu.” Strangely, even though they’d grown closer, her form of address had shifted from the affectionate “Gu Gu” back to “Gu Li.”
Alpha loosened her grip, her thumb brushing against her own palm. “Nian Nian.”
“Hmm?”
“Let’s go buy a small cake together at noon on my birthday.” Gu Li took a step forward, catching the cuff of Jiang Nian’s sleeve before slipping her hand inside to grasp the omega’s soft fingers. Her gaze dropped to the sleeve. “This Friday. Tomorrow.”
Even a simple birthday celebration would feel meaningful as long as she was by her side.
“I actually had plans for that afternoon,” the omega murmured, her voice gentle, like a tickle against the heart. Jiang Nian also looked down at the hand that had sneaked into her sleeve.
The eagerness in Alpha’s eyes dimmed slightly. Luckily, the girl in front of her was focused on the sleeve otherwise, she might have noticed the disappointment in her gaze.
If she wasn’t free at noon, then only the evening would work. But they both had classes then, and weekends were packed with extra study sessions. This semester was just too busy, there was no spare time left.
“Then… we’ll talk about it another time.”
With that thought, Alpha was about to let go.
“I was originally planning to sneak a gift into your desk drawer that day. But I can rearrange my plans and give it to you in person instead.” The small hand inside the sleeve squeezed Gu Li’s fingers back.
Jiang Nian had noticed that ever since her differentiation, her mischievous side had grown stronger. The more Gu Li doted on her, the more she wanted to tease her.
She really wished she could fast-forward past the college entrance exams. She had to study hard, get into a university in the same city as Gu Li. Smiling, she silently cheered herself on.
“Then I’ll pick you up outside the art studio that day.” Satisfied with the answer, Gu Li let go of her earlier worries. She stood in place, watching as Jiang Nian got into Mu Lan’s car, then mounted her own bicycle and pedaled toward home. Out of habit, she rang the bell once.
Still… why did the little kitten have to wear a mask so secretively during elective classes? Was it because, as an omega, she felt awkward being surrounded by alphas?
Jiang Nian double-checked the completed test papers before neatly tucking them into her bag. All her homework was done, and her tutor hadn’t scolded her today. She hopped onto her bed and grabbed her phone, opening WeChat, Gu Li had, as expected, sent her a message.
[Did you finish today’s homework?]
Clearly still worried about her. Jiang Nian sent back a smug little sticker of a figure with hands on hips, then replied, “Of course.” After exchanging goodnights, she checked her inbox.
She wondered if the Alpha Studies teacher was efficient enough to have already sent it.
Just out of curiosity, she tapped in and scrolled through the spam messages one by one.
Four consecutive messages, all strange promotions. The next unread text seemed to have arrived shortly after school today, making it even less likely to be from that teacher.
Thinking this, she scrolled down her phone screen.
[To little alpha]
Judging by the contact name, it really might be that teacher’s message?
Jiang Nian opened the text to find a string of compliments right at the start: “Your physical condition is excellent, and your temperament scores are high too. If this reflects your true situation, you don’t need to worry about your attractiveness. For specific improvement courses, I’d recommend this physical exercise program and a good diet plan: [link]. An alpha can never have too much stamina, right? As for the marking issue you mentioned, could you specify what exactly the problem is?”
He’s probably asleep by now. Jiang Nian checked the time, almost 10:20 hesitating whether to reply.
Might as well try.
“It’s like… I can lick the omega’s scent gland, but stop at the final marking step. Then I can only ask the omega to mark my gland instead.” Jiang Nian reviewed her message, confirming it was truthful before convincing herself the teacher wouldn’t know who she was anyway, and hit send.
The sent icon appeared. Carefully placing her phone on the nightstand, she went to wash up.
When she returned, a reply had already arrived.
130xxxx: “That probably means the omega’s pheromones don’t attract you. Don’t think it’s your fault, it’s normal for alphas to fail initiating ** with omegas whose pheromones have low compatibility. Don’t doubt yourself. You’re still young, focus on your studies first. Here’s an alpha marking tutorial series: [link]. When you enter university, you can properly learn techniques to find your compatible omega! Keep it up ( _) Don’t be sad over an omega who isn’t right for you :)”
Jiang Nian stared blankly at her phone. What did this mean?
I thought Gu Li couldn’t mark me, but actually my pheromones aren’t attractive enough?
The questioned omega peeled off the suppressant patch on her nape and brought it to her nose milky tea scent. Gu Li loved milk tea most how could she dislike it? Besides, she’d only presented as an omega because of Gu Li. The doctor said their pheromone compatibility would be high.
“Don’t be sad over an omega who isn’t right for you” now those words truly hurt.
Clearly, the teacher lacks proper professional knowledge.
Jiang Nian saved the link, then quickly replied: “Okay, thank you.”
Taking advice requires discernment. This conversation wasn’t a waste, she’d at least obtained the alpha marking tutorial series, alpha workout course videos, and recipes. The little omega deleted the text messages exchanged with her teacher from the inbox, scheduling both the alpha marking tutorials and arranging workout sessions for Gu Li right after her interview and his math competition.
As for the recipes… Jiang Nian smacked her lips. Should she start preparing extra lunches tomorrow?
She tossed her phone onto the nightstand, turned off the bedside lamp, and pulled the blanket over her head to sleep. The ticking of the clock was clearly audible in the darkness. She peeked out from under the covers, opening her eyes in confusion:
She couldn’t sleep at all…
Could it really be that her pheromones weren’t attractive enough to Gu Li…
