Transmigrated as the Vampire Alpha of the Omega Heroine - Chapter 32
“Alright, all filled out. I just need to hand this in to the teacher when the next elective class starts.” Jiang Nian finished writing the last option on the self-assessment form and rubbed her itchy throat, realizing she was probably coming down with a cold.
There was still some time left during the long break. She tucked the alpha self-assessment form back into her textbook and picked up her draft notebook to dutifully write her apology letter. Fortunately, her physics teacher had gone easy on her since her attitude was good, she wasn’t forced to rewrite the entire exam paper.
But in a way, it was a blessing in disguise.
She had never written an apology letter before and wasn’t sure how to start. Gu Li had disappeared somewhere after morning exercises, leaving her with no one to ask. So, she began writing from the middle section first.
“I deeply regret my actions.” Gu Li’s voice suddenly came from behind her as she read aloud what Jiang Nian had just written. “Got in trouble and have to write a reflection?”
The little omega jumped in surprise and instinctively glanced at her math textbook where she had hidden the self-assessment form. She pushed Gu Li’s head away. “Where did you go? When did you get here?”
What kind of question was that? Did she need to schedule her return to her own seat?
Gu Li pulled out a bag from behind her and waved it. “You seem to have a cold, so I went to the infirmary to get you some medicine.”
She placed the bag on Jiang Nian’s desk and pulled out her chair to sit down. “Nian Nian, is something bothering you lately?”
During their run together, Mu Lan had told her about Jiang Nian mixing up colors in art class, and now with today’s unfinished homework, Jiang Nian’s focus was clearly off.
The omega’s heart skipped a beat, Gu Li must have noticed something. “Do you know how to start an apology letter?”
Changing the subject, huh? Gu Li raised an eyebrow and took Jiang Nian’s pen, pretending to help her write the opening. But instead, she wrote Jiang Nian’s name.
“No idea.” Gu Li deliberately added a tiny heart dotting the “Nian” character.
“Then why did you take my pen?” Jiang Nian snatched it back in mock annoyance, glanced at the neat handwriting, and couldn’t bring herself to cross it out. She flipped to a fresh page and started over.
Gu Li unscrewed her thermos and poured out hot water to let it cool. “Are you really okay? If something’s wrong, you have to tell me. We can figure it out together.”
I’m just worried about your marking issue.
Jiang Nian felt the words on the tip of her tongue but couldn’t say them. What if Gu Li had her own unspoken struggles? She was already fighting through her illness wouldn’t bringing it up just twist the knife?
“No, it’s just balancing art and studies has been exhausting lately. I’ll adjust soon.” Her voice was hoarse from the cold as she smiled and took the water Gu Li handed her, soothing her itchy throat.
The apology letter contained her sincere reflections. Tuesday’s self-study period was already short, and the only session she had was spent in the teacher’s office making up her physics exam which she still hadn’t finished. She had to squeeze in time between classes and lunch break to complete both her homework and the letter, barely finishing with her deskmate’s help just before afternoon classes began.
There were still over twenty minutes before afternoon classes. She stuffed the completed test papers and written pledge between the pages of a book, then laid her head on the desk for a nap, her mind foggy from a cold.
“Nian Nian, the bell’s ringing. Just hand in the test and pledge directly to her during physics class,” Gu Li nudged the sleepy girl.
“It’s tucked in the book, can you grab it for me?” Jiang Nian’s head swam drowsily as if still dreaming. Gu Li stood up and reached over her to check the books one by one, not in the physics textbook, not in the chemistry book either. Just as she picked up the math book to search, Jiang Nian suddenly jolted awake.
She grabbed Gu Li’s wrist, startling her: “What’s wrong?”
The book fell open precisely to the page holding the alpha self-assessment form. When Gu Li lowered her head to examine the sheet, Jiang Nian lunged forward in panic, freezing her in place.
The swaying image before her eyes blurred, but she vaguely caught a few words: a… self-test…?
“I’ll get it myself!” Jiang Nian’s eyelashes still glistened with sleep-tears, but her movements were lightning fast.
She snatched the entire math book and marched toward the lectern, extracting only the test and pledge before snapping the volume shut with finality. Standing rigid as a soldier awaiting inspection, she clutched the textbook like a weapon gripped tightly and held perfectly straight.
What was that paper about?
“I’m off to class then. You and Mu Lan be careful,” Gu Li bid Jiang Nian farewell as usual, heading to the study hall with her competition materials. But today was different, she spread open her workbook to already-solved problems and began scribbling on scrap paper like solving word puzzles.
The top student’s every move drew attention. A male alpha nearby chuckled unexpectedly at her writings.
“What?” Gu Li looked up curiously.
“Nothing, just since the school’s offering electives, my desk mate picked one with ‘alpha’ in the title when others were full. First day, the teacher handed him an alpha self-assessment guide, told him to take it seriously.” The male alpha scooted his chair closer during the pre-class lull.
“Why’s that funny?”
“Seeing your blank spaces reminded me. I just find it hilarious that my mind went there.” He shrank slightly under his classmate’s elbow jab.
“What’s the full course name?” Gu Li’s interest was piqued. She even filled in the missing words openly, displaying the alpha self-assessment guide without reservation.
“Think it’s called something like ‘How Alphas Can Improve Themselves.'” The moment he said it, several classmates burst out laughing.
“Hey hey, you omegas don’t twist this! ‘Improvement’ covers multiple areas intelligence, physicality, personal charisma. Don’t judge by the title alone,” the male alpha protested loudly, hands on hips.
“So what about that alpha self-assessment? Does it test all those areas you mentioned? If so, have you taken it? What’d you score?” Someone pressed, determined to get to the bottom of this.
“Pretty much. I followed my deskmate’s example, though he kept hiding a lot of it from me,” the male alpha chuckled. “But when it comes to intelligence and physical strength, my scores are rock solid.”
“Guess that means your charm is lacking then,” someone quipped, sparking laughter around them.
Amid the laughter, Gu Li circled those words in red ink. A woman’s intuition was sharp, she suspected the paper she’d seen in Jiang Nian’s math book earlier was this so-called self-assessment guide.
Why would Jiang Nian have this? And shouldn’t these classes be for alphas? What was an omega like her doing there?
Puzzled and determined to get to the bottom of it, Gu Li asked the male alpha about the next class schedule. He didn’t know either but promised to ask his deskmate tomorrow and let her know, curious why she wanted the information.
Gu Li twirled her pen, tapping it on the desk. “As an alpha, there are just some things one needs to know.”
Like why her little omega wasn’t focusing on her studies but dabbling in something so peculiar.
Jiang Nian followed her usual routine in the restroom on this floor, spraying herself thoroughly with the pheromone blocker she’d prepared in advance. She then put on the same black mask she’d used before. Once everything was set, she walked into the classroom clutching the alpha self-assessment form she’d painstakingly completed.
The teacher was already there, casually copying the lesson plan onto the blackboard, completely unaware of the potential disaster his class might cause.
“If anyone has questions about their self-assessment guides, you can submit them after class,” the teacher announced. “I’ll review each one and provide a comprehensive improvement plan. To protect everyone’s privacy, you can leave your phone number instead of your name, and I’ll send the feedback directly.”
This approach piqued the interest of even those alphas who had initially hesitated. Who wouldn’t want to enhance their alpha appeal with tailored advice? It was like the trending phrase online: “I’ll improve in secret and amaze my future omega.”
An omega hoping to impress her alpha added her phone number to the guide. Finding the existing questions insufficient, she scribbled an extra note in the margin: “Also need help with marking issues.”
Gu Li, having checked the time and excused herself from the competition training, headed home to study. But first, she followed the male alpha’s directions to the classroom. Peering through the rear window, she immediately spotted that familiar silhouette. There was Jiang Nian, waiting in line to hand her paper to the teacher. Gu Li double-checked the room number it matched the “Alpha Enhancement” class the guy had mentioned. That paper had to be the infamous self-assessment guide.
Class was about to end. She waited by the back door of the classroom with her backpack slung across her shoulder. As students poured out after the bell, she pressed against the wall beside the door, scanning the crowd. When she spotted the familiar figure, she reached out and placed a hand on her shoulder.
“Nian Nian? What elective did you take again?”
Though the tone was as gentle as usual, Jiang Nian felt a chill run down her spine. Before she could even remove her face mask, the alpha had already turned her around, leaving no chance to claim it was a case of mistaken identity.
