- Chapter 114 EXTRA 14 - Zombie World
After wrapping up their work, Qi Siyu and Gu Qing carved out two free months to take wedding photos—a perk the system had promised as compensation for Qi Siyu’s memory loss.
The list of possible worlds was so novel and exciting that Qi Siyu went back and forth, unable to decide where to start. In the end, she decided to just draw lots.
Unexpectedly, the first draw landed them in the Zombie World.
“Should we go? Or draw again?” Qi Siyu asked. After all, this was a game she’d set up herself—changing her mind would be easy.
“Let’s go check it out. I heard Director Chen is planning a post-apocalyptic movie and is holding open auditions for the female lead.”
Back in the real world, Qi Siyu had been taking work much more slowly, while Gu Qing’s career-driven side occasionally flared up.
Qi Siyu thought about it and grinned. “No other actors have our luck—we get to experience a real apocalypse first-hand.”
Once they’d agreed, the “director” of their wedding shoot—the system—came online.
This time, it didn’t just speak in Qi Siyu’s head. Instead, a small white-winged kitten appeared, wearing a bright red tour guide’s hat and holding a tiny flag. “Dear travelers, please get ready—our journey is about to—hey! Don’t grab me!”
Before it could finish, Qi Siyu had already snatched it up. The little winged cat was just the right size to be cupped in two hands.
“You black-hearted little furball, I finally caught you,” Qi Siyu growled, kneading it—not too hard—mainly because its sleek, glossy fur was cool to the touch and irresistibly soft.
“Help! Help!” the system cried, its tiny voice shrill. If it had known this would happen, it never would have redeemed a physical form.
“Gu Qing, you’ve got to feel this—it’s amazing,” Qi Siyu said generously. She wasn’t one to hoard good things for herself.
Gu Qing reached out and stroked the kitten—then simply never took her hand away.
The poor system was even bullied into doubling its size so both of them could play with it.
Suddenly—
“AAAAHHH!”
A terrifying face loomed in front of them, its gray-green flesh rotting, reeking of decay. White maggots writhed in the hollows where eyes should be, and its bared gums were studded with dark red shreds of meat.
The distance between Qi Siyu and this face was no more than a few dozen centimeters. She could almost hear the gurgling sound it forced from its throat—like a starving predator finally smelling meat after a century.
Her heart seized; she screwed her eyes shut and let out a piercing scream.
“Move!”
A sharp voice cut through the air, followed by a flash of cold steel. In the next instant, the grotesque head split in two like a smashed watermelon.
Before Qi Siyu could react, a strong hand yanked her away. She stumbled, realizing the ground where she had been standing was now splattered with thick, black sludge.
“Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”
Gu Qing had pulled her into a firm embrace, one hand gently stroking the back of her head.
Qi Siyu swallowed hard—then her eyes lit up with excitement. “That was a zombie, right? I’m not scared! I can’t die here anyway!”
“That was just instinct kicking in before you could react.”
“Hmph.”
A short woman carrying a Tang sword snorted. “Let’s see if you’re still laughing later.”
“Thanks for saving me just now. You are…?” Qi Siyu didn’t take offense at her tone. If someone had lived in the apocalypse this long, it would be strange if she wasn’t a little twisted.
“She’s a local guide the bureau hired. You can’t get perfect wedding photos without someone who knows the terrain. And since the Zombie World is dangerous, she’s also our bodyguard.”
The system adjusted its tiny director’s hat, then conjured one for the sword-wielding woman as well.
“Just call me Jing.” The woman, apparently softening at Qi Siyu’s friendliness, straightened her hat. “Follow me.”
“Okay, okay.” Qi Siyu squeezed Gu Qing’s hand tightly; she was still a little nervous.
They’d appeared in what looked like the downtown business district—desolate and crumbling. Occasionally, a zombie corpse that had been rotting for who-knows-how-long would shamble past. The air was thick with the stench of decay.
The more she saw, the queasier Qi Siyu felt. She kept her eyes fixed on the Tang sword strapped to Jing’s back.
Seeing her pale face, Gu Qing hooked her pinky into Qi Siyu’s palm.
She tried releasing her pheromones—and succeeded. The rich scent of red wine and chocolate replaced the stench, filling Qi Siyu’s senses.
Qi Siyu felt alive again.
They walked and walked, eventually leaving downtown. In the distance, they saw a massive wall at least five meters high.
After registering and passing inspection with Jing, they entered.
Inside, it looked surprisingly like a modern residential complex, bustling with people—though their expressions were numb.
Soon they arrived at a clothing shop.
“Have a seat. Here are the sample albums—pick what you like. You get six sets, ten finished photos per set, all outdoor shoots,” Jing explained.
“This is… an industry here?” Qi Siyu asked in surprise.
Jing only grunted and poured them water.
It all felt like a grim sort of forced entertainment, but Qi Siyu shook her head and decided not to overthink it. Whatever else, life with the system was still better than without it.
While she and Gu Qing flipped through albums, the system went off to chat with Jing’s system—though that one was too poor to afford a physical form.
The styling was similar to their own world, but the locations were wildly different. Zombies, of course, couldn’t be staged like human extras, so every set had to work around them.
“Oh wow, they have superpowers here,” Qi Siyu murmured, eyeing photos of battles used as backdrops.
“Hiring superpowered extras is on you,” Jing said flatly. “Hurry up and choose—we need to finish in three days. I’ve got another job after this.”
“How do we pay?” Qi Siyu asked curiously.
“Food is the hard currency here. Guns, tools, technical manuals… gold works too.”
“System, do I have any food in my backpack?” Qi Siyu had upgraded it countless times, and after so many prize draws, it was practically a treasure chest.
“Sure do.” The system popped out and glanced at Jing. “What do you want?”
“Meat and flour,” Jing said, licking her lips.
Following the system’s directions, Qi Siyu pulled out an entire live sheep. The animal bleated and immediately tried to ram someone. “Whoa, I didn’t even know I’d drawn this!”
Jing’s eyes gleamed. She knocked the sheep unconscious with the back of her blade. “You can shoot however you like.”
Fresh mutton—Jing couldn’t remember the last time she’d had it.
Qi Siyu shivered. Zombie World was scary. The sooner they finished, the better.
Jing called over a dozen of her “sisters” to help with the shoot.
The first set was a rustic, country-style theme filmed inside the base—Qi Siyu and Gu Qing in bright red dresses, posing with paper wedding characters, planting crops, watering, or cooking together. Pure domestic bliss.
That was the normal set.
Next came the dark, zombie-themed wedding shots.
Gu Qing wore a pristine white gown—but a blood-red bloom spread from her waist.
It was real blood. Qi Siyu fainted instantly.
Even ten sheep wouldn’t be enough to make Jing hide her exasperation. “Why would someone who faints at blood choose an apocalypse theme?”
Gu Qing simply had the system fetch sunglasses from her backpack and put them on Qi Siyu.
“But that ruins the look. Don’t you have colored contacts?” Jing asked, awkward but persistent.
“No. This works,” Gu Qing replied coolly.
Qi Siyu soon woke, embarrassed, and rummaged out a giant watermelon as an apology. “Sorry—I forgot about my blood thing.”
“No problem,” Jing said quickly—she and her crew were now openly hoping Qi Siyu might faint a few more times and produce more good stuff.
After the watermelon break, they were ready.
Qi Siyu’s outfit was a bright red wedding dress, no blood or dark accents—just pure beauty.
Gu Qing, on the other hand, had heavy crimson eyeshadow and razor-sharp liner, giving her a dangerously alluring look. Jing was clearly aiming for a contrast between them.
Whether or not the contrast worked didn’t matter—both looked stunning, and Qi Siyu’s heart raced.
They first shot still scenes in the city center, without zombies. Then, Jing’s friends somehow wrangled over a dozen zombies for a “being chased” sequence—complete with video footage.
By the end, the sky had darkened, their dresses were tattered, and zombie slime clung to the hems. With quick touch-ups, they shot one more set in that state.
Exhausted, queasy, and worn out, Qi Siyu’s face looked grim in the photos—but her grip on Gu Qing’s hand never faltered.
Back at the base, Qi Siyu dug through her backpack and pulled out a hot pot gift set she’d won ages ago while filming a culinary drama.
Soon, the tiny shop was filled with the aroma of beef hot pot.
They ate under constant interruption—people coming by to peek or even try to steal food. Luckily, Jing’s group was more than capable of keeping the meal safe.
By the end, judging by the smiles and warmer attitudes, Qi Siyu and Gu Qing had definitely become their favorite clients.
The next day, the shoot got even more intense—a staged drama where the delicate bride (Gu Qing) was kidnapped by zombies, and the brave hero (Qi Siyu) fought through hordes to save her, ending with a passionate kiss atop a pile of corpses.
Jing handled the camera while her friends provided special effects.
It was exhausting but exhilarating. Looking at Gu Qing’s pitiful, tear-brimmed eyes, Qi Siyu felt her heart swell.
Professional actresses really were on another level—Gu Qing’s downcast, helpless look was enough to melt anyone.
Qi Siyu pulled her into her arms. “Don’t be scared, baby—big sister’s got you~” Her voice even lilted at the end.
All in all, the trip was an unforgettable adventure, and Qi Siyu was genuinely grateful to Jing and her team.
Before leaving, she dug through her pack and left behind more than half her food supplies, greatly improving the group’s rations.
“Come back anytime,” Jing said with a grin.
When they got home, Qi Siyu had the photos printed and even posted a few on Weibo. The post blew up instantly, with countless fans asking where they’d had them taken.
