Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 33
Chapter 33
When Cen Xia rushed in, Jiwanching had fainted on the floor. She was completely unconscious.
Shanqing scurried frantically around her head, nibbling at her ears with his teeth and licking her forehead with his tongue.
Cen Xia lunged forward, wanting to pick her up, but realized Jiwanching was completely limp. She didn’t dare move her and quickly called Yan Shuang.
Yan Shuang rushed in with his first-aid kit. He quickly checked the patient’s condition and told Cen Xia, “Her will to survive is weak. We can only use extreme measures to wake her up. I’ll insert the needles, and you call her name.”
Cen Xia agreed and knelt by her side, repeating over and over, “Sister, wake up. It’s Xiaxia…”
Yan Shuang plunged in a needle. Jiwanching’s body jerked. He glanced at Cen Xia, signaling that she didn’t need to be so gentle.
Cen Xia called her full name: “Jiwanching, Jiwanching, wake up…”
Yan Shuang inserted another needle and said, “Provoke her with your words!”
Cen Xia paused for a second and said through sobs, “Jiwanching, if you don’t wake up, I’m going to leave you!”
Jiwanching’s body jerked again, and a tear slid from the corner of her eye.
Cen Xia stopped thinking about anything else and just kept shouting, “Jiwanching, do you hear me? If you don’t wake up, I’m going to leave you! I’m going to leave you, Jiwanching!”
Yan Shuang inserted another needle, and Jiwanching’s eyes snapped open, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Cen Xia was so excited that she started to cry and shout at the same time, “Sister, you’re finally awake! It’s Xiaxia, it’s Xiaxia…”
Jiwanching slowly came to her senses. She parted her lips, mouthing the words: “Xia… Xiaxia…”
Cen Xia, with tears streaming down her face, knelt on the floor, pressing her forehead against her face, and said, “I’m here, Sister. I’m here.”
A thin layer of sweat appeared on Yan Shuang’s forehead. He said to Cen Xia, “That’s enough. Quickly get her onto the bed!”
Cen Xia picked her up. As her hands touched her legs, she found them to be slightly damp. On the floor where she had been lying was a puddle of yellow urine. Yan Shuang’s last needle had been so forceful that she had lost control of her bladder.
Yan Shuang glanced at Jiwanching in Cen Xia’s arms and said, “You handle it. I’ll go out for a bit!”
Cen Xia nodded. She put her on the bed and quickly got a towel and clean clothes. When she returned, Jiwanching was already slightly more aware of her surroundings.
Cen Xia said, “I’m going to change your clothes, Sister!”
Jiwanching’s legs were pressed tightly together. She was so ashamed she didn’t know what to do.
When Cen Xia tried to move her, she tensed up and coughed from the strain. Cen Xia turned, rushed to her side, and patted her back to help her breathe. Jiwanching coughed violently, and a mouthful of blood spewed out, splashing onto Cen Xia’s forehead. A bit of warmth slowly trickled down her face.
Cen Xia frantically wiped it off, smearing it on her skirt. She then used her now-free hands to pull Jiwanching into her arms.
Jiwanching curled up into a small ball, her body convulsing. Her two hands desperately clutched her undergarments.
Cen Xia held her and tried to soothe her, “It’s okay, Sister. It’s all okay. Can we change your clothes? Wearing wet clothes will make you sick.”
Jiwanching didn’t listen. She resisted so much she wouldn’t even let Cen Xia hold her.
In that moment, Cen Xia completely broke down. She cried and called out her name: “Jiwanching, I’m your wife! This is our home! You’re sick, and you won’t let me touch you. I’m your wife, and you won’t let me touch you…”
She rarely lost control of her emotions in front of Jiwanching, but now she was crying uncontrollably.
Jiwanching was startled. She stood frozen there, unable to recover for a long time.
Cen Xia was sobbing, gasping for air, repeating the same few phrases over and over.
Jiwanching forced her consciousness back from her earlier embarrassment, trying hard to understand every word she said. She wanted to comfort her, but no sound would come from her throat. She had no strength in her body, and even her vision was completely black.
She was silent for a few seconds. She slowly took her hands off her clothes and gestured in the air.
—”I’m sorry, Xiaxia.”
Cen Xia’s crying stopped. She looked at her but didn’t respond.
Jiwanching struggled for a few seconds inside, then raised her hand again.
—”Xiaxia, my body feels uncomfortable. Can you help me change my clothes?”
Her movements were so humble, as if she was trying to coax her, and also using her pitiful dignity to show weakness.
Cen Xia still didn’t move.
A tear rolled down Jiwanching’s cheek. She closed her eyes for a moment, then slowly opened them, her sightless gaze directed at her.
—”Sister can’t see. Can you help me, Xiaxia?”
Cen Xia finally gave in. She sniffled as she walked over, reached out, and began to change her clothes.
Jiwanching didn’t struggle anymore. She was well-behaved, lying there quietly, letting tears fall from her eyes again and again, soaking half the pillow.
Cen Xia tidied up and called Yan Shuang in to set up her IV. She didn’t say another word to her throughout the process.
Jiwanching felt very anxious. She reached out and pulled on her clothes, trying to please her with a smile.
Cen Xia tucked her arms back under the covers. When she discussed the illness with Yan Shuang, she no longer used the term “Sister”: “She just coughed up blood!”
Yan Shuang “hmm’d,” and the room became silent once more.
Jiwanching couldn’t get the affection she was looking for, and tears couldn’t stop overflowing from her eyes.
Yan Shuang finished setting up the IV and left. They were the only two left in the room.
The pillow that had just been changed was wet again. Cen Xia couldn’t bear it and walked over to wipe her tears.
Jiwanching became even more distressed. Her body trembled slightly as she pursed her lips, trying to endure.
Cen Xia looked at her. In that instant, she made a decision.
Even if she was a killer who took the place of the original owner, even if the original owner was still alive and might take her place one day, and even if their future was short, at this very moment, she had to tell Jiwanching the truth she had pieced together.
To tell her that the person she had fallen for from the beginning was her, and that it would never change. No matter what happened, in life or death, they only had each other…
Cen Xia leaned down and kissed Jiwanching deeply on her pale lips.
Jiwanching’s long eyelashes fluttered, and her entire breathing process came to a halt.
Cen Xia used her tongue to pry open her lips and teeth, trying to explore deeper.
Jiwanching’s head was spinning, and she couldn’t breathe, but she didn’t struggle or respond. She just lay there blankly, letting Cen Xia take what she wanted.
Cen Xia continued for several seconds before slowly letting go.
Jiwanching’s lips were parted, and she gasped for air.
Cen Xia waited for her to recover a bit before she spoke. She still used her name: “Jiwanching, do you remember the story I told you before about a young girl forced to have her kidney removed?”
Jiwanching’s eyes moved slightly.
Cen Xia said, “That girl was me!”
She looked into her eyes, her voice firm: “Listen carefully, Jiwanching. Jiang He likes the wealthy young lady, Cen Xia, who grew up with her. I’m not her!”
Jiwanching was so shocked by her words that her eyes widened. She desperately tried to see the girl in front of her, but everything was still pitch black.
Cen Xia spoke alone. Even though Jiwanching couldn’t see, her gaze was still fervent: “I am your wife, Jiwanching. From the very beginning, I only love you, Jiwanching!”
“From the moment I entered, you stood tall in your black dress in that wheelchair, your deep-set eyes staring at me, telling me to get out. We were already two grasshoppers tied to the same line of life and death!”
“I was afraid to die, and I was also afraid that you would die. At that time, your situation was difficult, and I was on edge every minute, afraid that if I wasn’t careful, you would be harmed, and I’d die along with you!”
“But Jiwanching, do you know? After living with you for less than three days, I was the one who fell first. At that time, I didn’t know what love was. I just knew I wanted to live, and you couldn’t die either.”
“Later, I begged you to come with me to a meeting. We spent a whole morning petting cats at a pet shop. We got Shanqing. We were surrounded on the way back. When the villain came at us with a knife, you didn’t hesitate at all. You used your fragile body to shield me and Shanqing. It was then that I decided that from then on, I would protect this girl with my life!”
“But Jiwanching, even so, at that time, I still didn’t know it was love. For a long time afterward, when I calmed down and realized that you called out my name at that critical moment, you don’t know how happy I was inside. When I found out your legs had feeling and that you might be able to stand up again, you don’t know how excited I was.”
“After that, I confirmed it many times. Every one of your improvements, every smile, I cared about deeply. They all tugged at my heart. This isn’t the reaction of someone just trying to save their own life. I’ve truly fallen in love with you, Jiwanching. Only when you’re in love can your heart flutter, and only when you’re in love can your heart ache.”
“Do you know? How sad my heart was when I watched you get tormented again and again by those people, and I was powerless to get justice for you…”
She closed her eyes, remembering every time Jiwanching couldn’t hold on. After a long pause, she continued.
“We haven’t been together for long, but we’ve been through a lot. Most of these memories are more painful than sweet. But because of you, I still find them precious. Because this love has been embedded in our bones. If you live, I live. If you die, I won’t hesitate to die with you. We are one, Jiwanching!”
Cen Xia kept talking and talking. Jiwanching listened to her voice, and tears didn’t stop falling from the corners of her eyes.
In the end, her voice softened, and she said almost pleadingly, “Sister.”
She said, “Don’t put so much pressure on yourself anymore. I am your wife. No matter what, I’ll be with you. We’ll bear everything together. If you get better in the future, I’ll just lie flat and hold onto your leg, begging for a rich wife to take me in. If you can’t get better, I’ll stay by your side and take care of you. No matter what the future holds, as long as we’re together, there will be no regrets. Right, Sister?”
Jiwanching’s heart was melting. She pursed her lips, silently shedding tears.
Cen Xia looked into her eyes and repeated, “Right, Sister?”
Jiwanching nodded, her chest slightly trembling. She spread her palm, waiting for her to take it.
Cen Xia placed her hand in her palm.
Jiwanching held it, clutching it tightly. After a moment, she brought her hand to her own throat and, after several attempts, managed to utter a few weak words.
“Xiaxia… My…”
