Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 31
Chapter 31
Dr. Yan’s heart skipped a beat.
—”It’s over. I’m about to be tortured by a slow death.”
Cen Xia brushed the stray hair from her forehead and added to Dr. Yan’s words, “Sister, don’t feel pressured. Just relax. Think about it, your little angel is right by your side. What’s there to be nervous about?”
Jiwanching’s stern gaze softened considerably.
Cen Xia held up two fingers and wiggled them in front of her, asking, “Sister, what number is this?”
Jiwanching’s gaze was drawn to her. Subconsciously, she thought the answer was “two.”
Cen Xia giggled and said, “It’s a little bunny!” She bent her two fingers a few times. “Look, the little obedient bunny is so cute, with its two ears standing up. It loves carrots and greens…”
Jiwanching felt a sweetness in her heart. A weak smile touched her dry lips.
Cen Xia asked, “Sister, is the little bunny cute?”
Jiwanching didn’t reply, but reached out to grab the “bunny.”
Cen Xia deliberately stretched her arm away, her fingers wiggling incessantly. “Is it cute? Is it cute? Sister can’t catch it, can’t catch it… Hehehe…”
Jiwanching strained, her arm aching terribly, but she still couldn’t reach it. Cen Xia couldn’t resist, and she brought her hand closer. Jiwanching, mimicking Shanqing’s actions, lunged forward with all her might and caught the “little bunny.”
She brought it to her lips and gently nibbled on it with the tips of her teeth.
Cen Xia laughed, “Sister, are you Shanqing? You’re going to bite the little bunny to death!”
Jiwanching continued to nibble. Cen Xia bent her two fingers forward, saying, “The little bunny has been eaten by Sister!”
In the passenger seat, the shivering Dr. Yan watched in stunned silence. This was the first time in his life he had seen the Ji family’s eldest daughter act this way, and to transform from a state of extreme anger to such cuteness in one second. At this moment, he truly admired this “madam” with all his heart.
The car soon entered the villa area. After getting out, Cen Xia carried Jiwanching the entire way. Yan Shuang pushed the wheelchair and followed behind, maintaining a safe distance of three meters.
Cen Xia walked up the stairs to the third floor. Inside, Shanqing heard footsteps and scratched frantically at the door. Cen Xia called out loudly through the door, “Shanqing, little Shanqing, we’re back!”
Shanqing inside was “meowing” anxiously. Cen Xia mischievously didn’t open the door and “meowed” back in response. Jiwanching was so exasperated she used her hand to cover Cen Xia’s mouth, and her eyes gestured for her to open the door for the little guy inside.
Cen Xia mumbled into her palm, “Beg me, Sister, beg me!”
Jiwanching’s hand was so tired. She glared at her angrily.
Inside, Shanqing was still scratching desperately at the door. After a while, Cen Xia opened the door. Shanqing leaped up, wrapping its legs around her calf, hanging there like a little bell.
Cen Xia moved slowly, saying, “Shanqing, get down. I’m holding your sister. You’re not allowed to compete for her affection!”
Jiwanching looked down at it, her eyes full of fondness. After a day apart, she missed it very much.
Cen Xia put her down on the bed. Shortly after, Yan Shuang came in with his medical bag.
Jiwanching glanced at him out of the corner of her eye and held out her palm to Cen Xia.
Cen Xia walked over and willingly placed her hand in hers.
Jiwanching held it, brought it over, and placed it on her stomach, gesturing with her eyes that she was hungry.
Cen Xia understood. She smiled and said, “What do you want to eat, Sister?”
Jiwanching blinked: Noodle soup.
Cen Xia looked at Yan Shuang and asked, “Dr. Yan, can Sister eat some staples now?”
Yan Shuang thought for a moment and nodded. “A small amount is okay. The flavor shouldn’t be too strong!”
Cen Xia said, “Okay, thank you, Dr. Yan.” Then she winked at Jiwanching.
Jiwanching let go of her hand, signaling for her to go make it.
Cen Xia deliberately stood still.
Jiwanching reached out to push her.
Cen Xia feigned innocence. “What’s wrong, Sister?”
Jiwanching bit her lip and pushed her with more force.
Cen Xia was teasing, pleading, and setting conditions with her. “Sister, if you say you want to eat noodle soup, I’ll go make it for you!”
Jiwanching bit her lip, not saying a word.
Cen Xia said, “Then just call my name, ‘Xiaxia.’ That’s good enough, right?”
She really wanted to hear her speak, even if it was just a few broken words.
Jiwanching’s throat moved. She didn’t make a sound. Then she gave a cold glare, hinting: Are you going or not?
Cen Xia didn’t press her anymore. She leaned down and whispered in her ear, “Okay, Sister, you can practice. You can call my name when I get back!”
With that, she left to make the noodle soup.
When only Yan Shuang and Jiwanching were left in the room, her gaze immediately turned sharp.
Yan Shuang was mentally prepared. He stood there with his medical bag, ready to accept whatever Jiwanching had in store for him.
Jiwanching took a moment, then turned to her side and raised her hand, signing his name.
Yan Shuang watched her gestures with focused attention.
Jiwanching’s movements were very slow.
—”You and Tang Shaoyun are my best friends. All this time, you’ve done your best to protect me. I know all of it. I also know that without you, Jiwanching wouldn’t be alive today. But even so, I have never treated you as outsiders.”
The heart of a man who was ready for his own demise hung in suspense when he saw Jiwanching’s gestures.
She was not good at expressing her feelings. As friends, they all knew this. But at this moment, for her to suddenly do this, he was a little flustered.
Jiwanching paused, waiting for him to process it. She looked into his eyes and raised her arm again.
—”But what you did today was wrong!”
Yan Shuang instinctively lowered his head, then quickly raised it again, afraid he wouldn’t be able to see her gestures clearly.
Jiwanching raised her hand, signing Cen Xia’s name. She then touched her own heart.
—”She is more important to me than my own life. As a friend, you should know that, Yan Shuang.”
Yan Shuang’s thin lips were tightly sealed. His chiseled face showed a hint of apology. He met Jiwanching’s gaze as much as possible and said, “I’m sorry, Madam.”
Jiwanching shook her head, tears welling up in her eyes. After a moment, she raised her hand again.
—”I’m not blaming you. I just hope you understand that next time we’re in danger, you must not act like you did today.”
Yan Shuang was silent for a second, then nodded. “Understood, Madam.”
He actually understood. It was just that in an emergency situation like today’s, an ordinary person who gets hurt might still have a chance of survival. But she couldn’t. Her body couldn’t withstand any abuse. No matter what, he wanted her to live.
Jiwanching closed her eyes to calm her emotions. When she opened them again, she raised her hand to Yan Shuang.
—”Let me try two more needles. I want to stand up.”
Yan Shuang’s expression tensed. “Madam, no. You need to wait two more days. Your body can’t handle it right now.”
Jiwanching’s gaze was erratic. She struggled to raise her hand, slowly making gestures in the air.
—”If I can stand up, I won’t lose her. I’m not afraid of the pain. I just want to try and fight for it. I’m not afraid of the pain…”
Yan Shuang, a grown man, felt terrible watching her repeat this over and over. He finally gave in. “Okay then, Madam. If you can’t bear it, just say so. Being too hasty will be counterproductive.”
Jiwanching nodded repeatedly.
—”I will. I can bear it. I won’t…”
When Cen Xia came in with the noodle soup, Yan Shuang had already finished the needle treatment. Jiwanching was lying motionless on the bed, her forehead and temples, her entire body soaked in sweat. It was pitch black in front of her. She couldn’t see anything around her, only vaguely hearing a familiar set of footsteps coming closer.
Cen Xia placed the soup on the bedside table and said in her clear, infectious voice, “Sister, look, my soup today is just right, with a fresh and rich flavor. Doesn’t it look delicious?”
Jiwanching turned her head, looking in the direction of the voice. She couldn’t see a thing.
Cen Xia smiled sweetly at her eyes, saying, “Doesn’t it look appetizing, Sister?”
Jiwanching gave a small nod.
Cen Xia looked at her, soaked in sweat, and realized that Yan Shuang had given her a needle treatment while she was away. She didn’t say a word, just smiled lovingly and said, “We must wash our hands before we eat. I’ll go get a towel for Sister!”
The moment she turned and was out of their sight, tears welled up and fell one after another.
Jiwanching’s appearance during her last needle treatment replayed over and over in her mind. She couldn’t bear it. She remembered how Jiwanching had tightly gripped her hands, unable to even gather a flicker of light in her eyes, just enduring it with such difficulty. She would never forget that moment.
It had been less than three days. How could she bear this… How could Dr. Yan allow her to risk her life for treatment… Didn’t he say it had to be a gradual process…
Yan Shuang went out with his medical bag while she was getting the towel.
Cen Xia came back with a warm towel. Her emotions were clearly processed. Her eyes still had a slight reddish tint, and she had put a lot of powder on her face to cover it, but the faint traces were still there. She was afraid that if Jiwanching noticed, she would be upset, so she deliberately avoided meeting her gaze.
She chattered sweetly, “I’ve washed two towels. Should I wipe Sister’s hands first? Or somewhere else? Are you hungry, Sister? Hmm?”
Jiwanching judged the direction of her voice and slowly turned her head, her vision still completely black.
Cen Xia reached out to unbutton her clothes.
Jiwanching didn’t react.
Cen Xia froze for a moment. She waved a hand in front of her eyes and said, “Sister, I’m going to take your clothes off.”
Jiwanching’s body tensed up at her words.
Cen Xia couldn’t believe it and stared at her.
Jiwanching, not feeling her movements, panicked a little inside.
Cen Xia had a delayed reaction, but she still couldn’t accept this fact. She tentatively said, “Oh!” and added, “I forgot to get the pajamas. What color pajamas do you want to wear, Sister?”
Jiwanching’s heart felt a little more at ease. She raised her hand and gestured.
—”Champagne.”
Cen Xia said, “Alright, Your Majesty!”
She went to the closet, grabbed a pair of the same style in pink, and said, “Your champagne-colored pajamas are here. Shall I help you change, Your Majesty?”
Jiwanching raised her hand and made a “good” gesture.
In that instant, tears burst from Cen Xia’s eyes. She tightly clenched her two hands, paused for about five seconds, and then walked over. The silk pajamas in her hands were now wrinkled.
She reached out to unbutton her clothes and said, “Time to take off your clothes. I’m going to see my sister all bare…”
