Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 30
Chapter 30
Jiwanching came out of the company, all her strength gone. She closed her eyes and leaned weakly on the wheelchair. Cen Xia pushed her, and Yan Shuang’s “ambulance” was waiting in the underground garage, set up as a small sickroom.
Jiwanching was in a daze. When Cen Xia picked her up, she slightly opened her eyes. In front of her, she saw a black Maybach. The eyes in the passenger seat were very familiar. She forced herself to take another look, vaguely making out that the person’s gaze was on them, or, more accurately, on Cen Xia.
Jiang He was no longer the imposing CEO in a suit she was in the company. Her eyes were tear-filled, her gaze fervent, and her slightly upturned lips held a look of infatuation, nostalgia, and a captivating smile.
A month ago, she wouldn’t have understood that look. But now, even with her exhausted body and blurred vision, she could still guess its meaning. It was the intimate affection shared only between two people in deep love, a level she, with her broken body, could never reach.
In that instant, Jiwanching seemed to understand everything. She closed her heavy eyes, no longer having the strength to look at the world for another moment.
Yan Shuang said, “Quickly, put her down. We need to start the IV. She might be lying down for several days.”
Cen Xia held her and walked toward the car, speaking to Jiwanching as she went: “Sister, we’re in the car now. Rest for a bit. There’s no traffic right now, so we’ll be home soon!”
Jiwanching’s weight had long dropped below 80 pounds, so Cen Xia could hold her effortlessly.
Yan Shuang glanced over and said, “She’s already resting, Ms. Cen.”
Cen Xia pressed her chin against Jiwanching’s forehead. Jiwanching was already unconscious.
Yan Shuang used a syringe to transfer the prepared medication into the IV bag.
Cen Xia said, “Dr. Yan, Sister held it in and didn’t go to the restroom during the meeting.”
Yan Shuang “hmm’d” in response, continuing to work with the IV bag in his hands.
Jiwanching’s hand was already bruised from the needle. Yan Shuang cleaned the spot a few times and pricked her again. A red liquid flowed through the tube, gradually covered by the medication. He hung the IV bag on the hook in the car.
Cen Xia instinctively held Jiwanching’s arm steady.
Yan Shuang asked, “Are you going to hold her, or should she lie down? It’s a bit of a drive home.”
Cen Xia quickly said, “I’ll hold her, I’ll hold her!”
Yan Shuang said, “Okay.”
He knew that Jiwanching wouldn’t wake up anytime soon, so he reverted to his usual aloof attitude toward the “madam.”
The car was very quiet. Tang Shaoyun called him to check on the situation. Yan Shuang answered, tilting his body as far away from Cen Xia as possible. His lowered voice was just as cold: “She’s still breathing. If you can’t handle the company matters, I’m not looking after her anymore!”
Director Tang was so stunned he couldn’t speak for a long time.
Yan Shuang hung up the phone, and silence returned to the car, so quiet that everyone’s breathing could be heard.
The driver said, “Dr. Yan, can we go?”
Yan Shuang “hmm’d” and said, “Whatever you want.”
The driver felt awkward. He pushed the gear into drive, and the car slowly pulled out of the garage. The Maybach belonging to General Manager Jiang followed them.
Si Jing said, “General Manager He, your love rival seems to be in a pretty bad state.”
Jiang He’s eyes had been completely on Cen Xia, and she hadn’t noticed what was wrong with Jiwanching. She looked at Si Jing.
Si Jing thought her boss was about to get angry and clamped her hands over her chatty mouth.
Jiang He gave her a glare and said, “Just focus on driving!”
Si Jing smiled and gripped the steering wheel, intentionally putting on a facade of serious driving.
Jiang He stared at the back of the car in front of them, her eyes spacing out again.
Si Jing felt a bit speechless. The car slowly made its way above ground. She said, “General Manager He, should we keep following them?”
Jiang He didn’t say anything, so Si Jing decided on her own to follow them. Jiwanching’s car was driving very slowly. Si Jing maintained a safe distance of over 100 meters. The road was a one-way street, and it was quite narrow. At this time, there weren’t many people. Si Jing got a lollipop, put it in her mouth, and drove while eating it.
Just then, a car from behind suddenly sped up, honking loudly. Si Jing swore under her breath. She was someone with a rebellious streak; the more you hurried her, the less she would move.
Jiang He, annoyed by the noise, glanced back and noticed something was wrong with the car behind them. The driver’s eyes looked off; they seemed to be fixated on Jiwanching’s van, as if they were about to run over them at any moment.
Jiang He said, “Si Jing, there’s something wrong with the car behind us!”
No sooner had she spoken than the driver tried to overtake them in a place where it was impossible.
Si Jing looked in the rearview mirror: “Damn it, your love rival is in trouble, General Manager He!”
Jiang He’s heart clenched. “Xiaxia is in that car, Si Jing!”
Si Jing quickly honked at Jiwanching’s car to give them a signal.
The car behind them squeezed in, driving recklessly. Si Jing reacted in a second, flooring the gas and swerving. The two cars collided, and both of them bounced around. In that moment, she didn’t forget to seek credit from Jiang He: “General Manager He, my Maybach!”
The other car floored its gas pedal and scraped past them through the small gap.
Si Jing and Jiang He were both dazed by the collision.
Yan Shuang and the driver heard the honk and quickly looked back. At the same time, Jiwanching’s phone flashed with a message. Cen Xia opened it.
—”Go quickly, there’s danger!”
The message was sent by Jiang He in the last second.
Yan Shuang reacted. He and the driver exchanged a look. He said to Cen Xia, “Ms. Cen, quickly take the IV out of her hand!”
Cen Xia connected his words with the message. She moved quickly, pulling the needle from Jiwanching’s hand and using her entire body to shield her tightly in her arms.
The driver floored the gas pedal, and the car sped forward. Yan Shuang called Tang Shaoyun. It rang several times before he picked up. He said, “Are you reliable or not? The Ji family’s hitmen are behind us!”
The atmosphere instantly reached a climax. The unconscious Jiwanching, held tightly by Cen Xia, seemed to also sense the danger. She slowly opened her eyes.
But even at this critical moment, Dr. Yan remained calm. While dialing the police, he spoke in a low voice: “Ms. Cen, if anything happens, I hope you’ll do your best to protect the Madam!”
He didn’t know Jiwanching was already conscious.
Cen Xia said, “Don’t worry, I’ll protect her with my life!”
She held Jiwanching tightly. Jiwanching was completely wrapped in her body, with no chance to move. She was going crazy. She struggled to part her lips, exhaling breath by breath, trying to make a sound.
One second, two seconds, three seconds…
“Xia… Xiaxia… Xiaxia…”
Finally, Jiwanching used her hoarse throat to call out her name once more.
Her voice was very faint, and at first, they couldn’t hear it. But she struggled and repeated it again and again, until finally, Cen Xia heard her. She was stunned for a moment, and her arms holding her loosened slightly.
Jiwanching freed a hand and pulled hard on her collar. “Xiaxia…”
At this moment, Yan Shuang also noticed her faint, raspy pronunciation. The usually cold man was shocked. He turned his head to look back.
Besides being hoarse, her voice was filled with sobs.
Cen Xia’s face was instantly streaming with tears. Ignoring the life-and-death situation, she repeated over and over, “Sister, you can speak… This is great, my sister can speak, this is great…”
Jiwanching was crying too. She was so anxious. She could only tug at her collar, unable to say anything else, just kept calling her name.
With the driver’s desperate control, the car managed to put some distance between them and the one behind, or more accurately, the “road killer” wasn’t chasing as fast anymore.
When Madam Ji called the people she had sent out, a vein on her forehead bulged for the first time. “Useless, all of you are useless. I’m paying to support a bunch of useless people!”
Wave after wave of people came in to urge her.
“Madam, the customer service phones are going crazy. Customers can’t place orders, what should we do?”
“Madam, there’s been a customer data leak. The ticketing bureau is calling to inquire about the situation!”
“Madam, the server has crashed…”
…
Madam Ji was completely panicked now. She hung up the phone and slammed it onto the table with a smack. Pointing at the door, she yelled, almost screaming, “Get out, all of you, get out!”
She hadn’t expected Tang Shaoyun to be serious. But he was an internal employee and hadn’t resigned. The Ji Corporation’s IT department was under his control. Even if it was intentional, it could be passed off as a mistake, after all, he had the ability to turn the tide.
Madam Ji withdrew the people who were sent to harm Jiwanching. They were finally able to catch a breath. At this moment, Jiwanching’s phone rang. It was Jiang He calling.
Cen Xia answered the phone.
Jiang He’s voice was anxious. “Are you safe?”
Cen Xia was stunned for a moment and said, “We’re safe. Thank you, General Manager Jiang!”
Hearing Cen Xia’s voice, Jiang He was so excited that she couldn’t help but call her name directly. “Xiaxia!”
Cen Xia’s mind went blank for a second, but it was as if she instinctively looked at Jiwanching and said, “Sister, General Manager Jiang is on the phone!”
Jiwanching was curled up in her arms. Her throat felt as if something was blocking it, and she couldn’t breathe. She tried to push with her hand.
Jiang He’s reaction was much quicker. She said, “It’s good that General Manager Ji is okay. Be careful next time you go out. I’m not always this kind-hearted!”
Cen Xia said, “Thank you, General Manager Jiang!”
After hanging up, she was still a bit confused, but she still explained, “Sister, we have General Manager Jiang to thank this time!”
Jiwanching desperately endured the discomfort but couldn’t spare the energy to respond.
Cen Xia noticed and looked at Yan Shuang nervously. “Dr. Yan, Sister is not feeling well!”
Yan Shuang glanced over and said, “Her throat will be very uncomfortable. Press down on it, and also support her body a little more.”
Cen Xia did as she was told.
With some support for her body, Jiwanching felt a bit better after a while. She finally got through it a little. She held Cen Xia’s hand, wanting to call her name again, but she couldn’t utter a single word.
Cen Xia asked, “Sister, does this feel more comfortable?”
Jiwanching nodded, her lips pulling into a difficult smile.
Yan Shuang said, “Madam, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. Try to breathe calmly.”
It was fine when he didn’t speak, but as soon as he did, Jiwanching immediately remembered what he had said in that moment of crisis. Her vulnerable eyes instantly turned incredibly sharp, like knives, fixed on Yan Shuang.
