Transmigrated as the Chongxi Wife of a Critically Ill Young Lady - Chapter 29
Chapter 29
Jiwanching had just left the police station when she received a message from Jiang He, who wanted to meet at the company. Her body was already severely exhausted, and without even a moment to catch her breath, she rushed to the company. On the way, she messaged Yan Shuang to meet her there, and she got a shot downstairs before going up.
Jiang He was already in the meeting room, and Tang Shaoyun and the project’s senior management were being subjected to various difficult questions. Halfway through the meeting, Cen Xia wheeled Jiwanching through the door. The conversation stopped, and everyone looked toward the entrance.
Jiwanching, in a black dress, sat upright on her wheelchair. Although she was heartbreakingly haggard, she couldn’t hide her icy composure. The internal employees almost simultaneously stood up and called out, “General Manager Ji!”
Even Jiang He’s assistant was taken aback by her aura. Only Jiang He’s eyes were fixed on Cen Xia. She watched her, and countless of her voices flashed through her mind.
—”Jiang Jiang, school has started, there are so many people. How are you doing over there? Take good care of yourself. If you get homesick, just message me.”
—”Jiang Jiang, the plum blossoms on campus are blooming, look. Aren’t they beautiful?”
—”This morning, a classmate grabbed a coupon and asked me to go with her to buy qingtuan. We walked a really, really long way and bought three qingtuan, only to find out the coupon price was just 1 yuan cheaper than the store price. Jiang Jiang, do you think I lost out?”
—”Jiang Jiang, it’s sunny here today. I see it’s snowing where you are. Wear more clothes; catching a cold is really troublesome.”
—”It’s the Winter Solstice today, remember to eat dumplings, or your ears will get frostbitten!”
—”Jiang Jiang, I’m about to start my internship, so I have fewer classes. My classmate and I went out to play this afternoon. We went to that barbecue place in the West District. After we ate, they said they wanted to walk around, but it suddenly started pouring rain. None of us had an umbrella, and the only place nearby was a bar. We went in, each ordered a glass of iced cola, and sat for an hour and a half. Jiang Jiang, it was my first time in a bar. When you come back, you have to take me. I want to try some alcohol.”
…
Through spring, summer, autumn, and winter, her voice remained unchanged. Finally, she said, “Jiang Jiang, I’m so sleepy. I want to have a good long sleep…”
Jiang He’s eyes became a little blurry. She subconsciously opened her mouth and called out “Xiaxia,” her voice so soft that no one noticed.
Jiwanching nodded, gesturing for everyone to sit. She glanced at Jiang He.
Si Jing, seeing her spacing out, discreetly kicked her.
Jiang He came back to her senses, raised her slender arm, glanced at the time on her watch, and looked at Jiwanching. She slowly said, “General Manager Ji, you’re quite punctual, aren’t you?”
Jiwanching had never been late for a public engagement, but today, her body simply couldn’t hold up. She took a few extra minutes to recover, and since Jiang He had arrived early, the situation was now a bit awkward.
She slightly raised her hand.
—”Apologies, General Manager Jiang. I was delayed for a few minutes. You’ve been waiting for a while!”
Tang Shaoyun was about to translate when Jiang He immediately followed up with, “It’s all right, General Manager Ji. It’s only right to wait a few more minutes since you’re so busy with work!”
They hadn’t expected her to understand sign language. Cen Xia, whose full attention had been on Jiwanching, noticed the intentional provocation in Jiang He’s words and looked up at her.
Her gaze was so unfamiliar. Jiang He felt a pang in her heart, and she said nothing more.
Tang Shaoyun continued the meeting. Jiwanching joined in, and the team instantly found its backbone.
Jiang He, however, was still distracted. She didn’t know what her Xiaxia had been through, or why she was looking at her so strangely. Had she suffered some kind of trauma and couldn’t handle it, causing her to lose her memory?
Thinking this, she then saw Cen Xia’s eyes entirely fixed on Jiwanching’s face, filled with concern and heartache for her.
After so many long hours of yearning, she had imagined her appearance over and over in her mind. She had anticipated their reunion from a thousand miles away, a passionate embrace, an intimate kiss. But now that this moment had finally come, she was right beside her, yet her gaze was on someone else. The person she cared about, in her heart and eyes, wasn’t her…
Jiang He’s vision became uncontrollably blurry. When Si Jing kicked her, she blinked hard a few times before she could see the collaboration plan Jiwanching had presented on the screen.
She glanced at it and said, “Let’s stop here. General Manager Ji, I’ve seen your plan. To be honest, there are no major problems, but there are still many, many details that need to be perfected. You can coordinate the specific procedures with my assistant!”
With General Manager Jiang’s words, the meeting finally came to an end. She left with her phone, leaving Si Jing to handle the rest.
Jiwanching gave a few instructions. Unable to hold on any longer, she motioned for Cen Xia to take her to the restroom.
Cen Xia rushed her toward the bathroom and met Jiang He at the door.
Jiang He was in a bad mood, and when she saw Jiwanching approaching, she walked straight toward her.
Jiwanching was in great distress, her hands tightly clutching her clothes.
Jiang He stood in front of her with her arms crossed.
Jiwanching looked at her awkwardly, pursing her lips and enduring the discomfort.
Cen Xia grew anxious, lunged forward, and with reddened eyes, shoved her hard, “Get out of the way!”
Jiang He was stunned for a moment.
Cen Xia then picked Jiwanching up from the wheelchair and rushed into the restroom.
Jiwanching was inside for a long time. When she came out, Jiang He was still standing there. As Cen Xia passed her, she glanced at her as she was helping Jiwanching back into her wheelchair, her expression very cold.
Jiwanching had just gone through a lot and hadn’t fully recovered. She was drenched in cold sweat. She looked at Jiang He and slowly raised her hand.
—”Sorry, did General Manager Jiang need me for something just now?”
Jiang He didn’t react to her sign language, standing there in a daze, her mind fixated on the two moments when Cen Xia had looked at her.
Just then, Si Jing finished up and came out. Seeing the subtle atmosphere between the three, she quickly walked over and called out, “General Manager Jiang!”
Jiang He slowly came back to her senses. Looking at her, she asked, “Have all the details been coordinated?” Her voice was a little hoarse.
Si Jing said, “All done, General Manager Jiang!”
Jiang He composed herself, then turned to Jiwanching, reverting to her usual business persona: “General Manager Ji, then we’ll perfect the plan as discussed in the meeting. My assistant will organize the relevant details and sync them with you. A pleasure working with you, General Manager Ji!”
Jiwanching nodded.
Jiang He gave Si Jing a look, then said to Jiwanching, “Then General Manager Ji, we’ll be heading back!”
Without waiting for Jiwanching’s reply, she turned to leave. After a few steps, she looked back and saw Cen Xia behind her.
She was half-crouching in front of the wheelchair, very considerately wiping the sweat from Jiwanching’s temples.
Jiang He’s expression stiffened again.
Si Jing, beside her, said, “General Manager He, I really don’t get it. Why did you suddenly change your mind and decide to sign this agreement with Zhicheng?”
Jiang He’s thoughts were forcibly pulled back. She had no time for Si Jing’s games, so she just said casually, “I want to get rid of those two old people from the Ji family first!”
She was a smart person. After the investigation over the past few days, she had vaguely figured out some of the situation within the Ji family. The people she hated most were not Jiwanching, but the Ji couple who had caused all this. However, Jiwanching was the main person involved in the whole matter, and she couldn’t forgive her either.
Si Jing understood. “General Manager He, did you just block your love rival and not let her go to the restroom?”
Jiang He looked at her, confused.
Si Jing said, “Jiwanching has health issues. She can’t hold her bladder for long.”
Jiang He’s eyes widened slightly. She said, “So the rumors online are true?”
Si Jing nodded.
Jiang He’s gaze darkened. She hadn’t thought that far ahead; she was just so angry at the time and wanted an outlet to vent.
Si Jing joked, “You really know how to pick a time and place, General Manager He!”
Jiang He didn’t retort as she usually would. She just said casually, “Jiwanching has health problems, but what about me? What should I do, Si Jing?”
Si Jing fell silent.
Jiang He said, “I wish it were me in that wheelchair and me who couldn’t hold my bladder!”
Si Jing felt her boss was getting serious. Her IQ suddenly shot from 0 to 100, and she asked, “Is that what you really think, General Manager He?”
Jiang He looked at her.
Si Jing spoke frankly, “No one knows what your wife has been through in someone else’s hands, whether she’s lost her memory or is being threatened. If you were the one in that wheelchair, your relationship might be over for good!”
Hearing this, Jiang He felt a little better. She said, “Keep a close eye on Zhicheng. Don’t you still have a lot of resources? Get things moving in both the underworld and the business world recently. I remember the Ji family is about to have that temporary shareholders’ meeting, aren’t they? I want those two old geezers to be completely disgraced!”
Si Jing looked at her with an expression that said, “I’m not on your company’s payroll.”
Jiang He raised an eyebrow. “Do you still want to become a hacker in the computer world?”
Si Jing immediately put away her dissatisfaction, a big smile on her face. “Yes, General Manager He. I guarantee the mission will be completed!”
The two went downstairs.
After resting for a while, Jiwanching pushed herself to go back to the meeting room. Through these few interactions, she could clearly feel that Jiang He’s target was not Zhicheng, but her. She didn’t know the specific reason, but every demand she made was perfectly reasonable.
The Jiang Corporation was an excellent partner for Zhicheng. She didn’t want the company’s interests to be compromised because of her own issues, so she was willing to make small concessions and cooperate with her pace as much as possible.
Tang Shaoyun and a few senior project managers were discussing and analyzing the content of the meeting. Originally, everyone was quite relaxed, but when they saw her enter, they all sat up straight and were very careful about how they spoke, afraid of using the wrong word and receiving a cold stare from General Manager Ji.
In everyone’s mind, she was a serious and magnificent figure.
Jiwanching sat and listened for a while without expressing any opinions. She felt that everyone had made a lot of progress during the year she was away.
After the discussion concluded, Tang Shaoyun came over and said, “Miss, did you see the other trending topic online?”
Jiwanching shook her head. She rarely checked trending topics. One, she didn’t have the time, and two, she didn’t want it to affect Cen Xia’s mood. Usually, she’d only provide a response plan when Tang Shaoyun or Xiao Liu reported to her.
Tang Shaoyun said, “It was posted by the Jiang Corporation. The content is beneficial to us, but it’s very strange!”
Jiwanching took out her phone, clicked on the trending topic, and looked at it carefully. The video was very real, and the person in it was the one involved, but she didn’t know how the other party had managed to get hold of it.
She saw the final signature: “A global good citizen who bravely stands up for others, the most beautiful and youngest Fortune 500 leader in history – General Manager He.”
Recently, the entire internet was filled with both positive and negative news about her, “the ethereal songstress.” The conclusion of the court case this morning had pushed her to the peak. At this critical juncture, the only person with the power to push an ordinary post to the top 3 in such a short time was Jiang He. But she didn’t know why she would do such a thing.
Aside from their collaboration on the Zhicheng project, the Ji family had no other connection with her. In the year she was sick, she hadn’t had contact with anyone from the outside world. She didn’t know why Jiang He was targeting her, or why she would post such a thing at this crucial moment.
