Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 16
Yu Zhiwan sat in her wheelchair, subtly increasing her speed without drawing attention.
The person following her adjusted their pace accordingly, maintaining a fixed distance as if casually sightseeing, close enough not to lose track but not so obvious as to arouse suspicion.
If Pei Yujiang were to charge out now a tall, striking woman who clearly resembled an Alpha (and indeed, the original owner carried Alpha pheromone extract for disguise) she could likely scare the stalker off.
But Pei Yujiang didn’t act rashly.
Years of military experience sharpened her instincts, and she quickly deduced that this was no opportunistic predator targeting a vulnerable, disabled woman. This was a seasoned stalker, either hired or pursuing their own agenda.
Though she had never served as a scout, every general had to master reconnaissance and counter-surveillance before taking the battlefield. This stalker was skilled, but not enough to evade Pei Yujiang’s notice.
The sprawling Lakeside Park opened into sparse woodland. Pei Yujiang swiftly rounded a bend, positioning herself out of sight while keeping both figures in view.
She watched as Yu Zhiwan wheeled herself to a distant car and drove home.
The stalker followed only to her doorstep before leaving, never making a move.
But Pei Yujiang remained vigilant.
Though no longer unemployed and now responsible for her company, she had two free days ahead. After crouching in the underbrush for over two hours earning a dozen mosquito bites, she finally spotted someone approaching on an electric scooter at the path’s end.
The rider, expressionless with a helmet tucked carelessly under one arm, was strikingly beautiful, Liu Huanran, the female lead’s canon love interest in the original novel.
The neighborhood was a mid-tier complex of small Western-style houses, a dated design from over a decade ago.
Untamed weeds choked the ornamental bamboo groves, and moss slicked the basement entrance between two buildings, a hidden hazard.
As Liu Huanran tried to park her scooter in the basement, she nearly collided with someone emerging from the shadows. A honk did nothing, the person strode past unbothered. The frustration of weekend overtime finally boiled over, and Liu Huanran snapped:
“Watch where the hell you’re?”
Before the curse fully left her lips, Pei Yujiang heard a sharp gasp, cut short.
The scooter hit the ground with a dull thud.
Pei Yujiang didn’t rush in.
After noting the stalker’s “temporary departure,” she had scouted the area and knew the basements were interconnected.
She swiftly found an entry point and slipped inside.
The basement of the old residential complex carried a strong, damp fishy odor, dark and humid, mingled with the scent of aged rust and scattered clutter. Pei Yujiang carefully navigated around the obstacles, her footsteps as light as a cat’s paws padding silently across the floor.
The conversation between the stalker and Liu Huanran was hushed, and due to the constraints of the situation, Pei Yujiang couldn’t get close enough to hear much. The earlier bits were fragmented, but later, Liu Huanran’s voice suddenly grew impassioned.
“You want me to betray my partner? How could I? No amount of money would make me do something so despicable! If we ever have a child, it’ll only be when she’s ready, our child would never be used as a bargaining chip!”
Her voice was fiery with conviction, but it was quickly doused by the other person’s cold mockery.
The stalker scoffed:
“Then have you marked her? A permanent bond? Don’t act like you’re starring in some epic love story here. She hasn’t even let you touch her yet, has she? Have you two even held hands?”
Pei Yujiang couldn’t see Liu Huanran’s expression, but she could guess the woman’s face must have darkened. Still, more than Liu Huanran’s feelings, she was puzzled, how did this person know so much about them?
Liu Huanran didn’t refute it, which likely meant it was true.
If that was the case, Yu Zhiwan and Liu Huanran were probably in a fake relationship. But Yu Zhiwan was a genuine Omega, being alone with an Alpha was incredibly dangerous.
Even with Pei Yujiang’s self-control, she couldn’t guarantee she wouldn’t develop any urges after prolonged isolation with an Omega, especially since Alphas had rut cycles. During a rut, an Alpha was like a beast in heat as crude as it sounded, that was the reality for many.
So why would Yu Zhiwan put herself in such a risky situation?
Unless… the female lead had some unspeakable reason?
Countless questions swirled in Pei Yujiang’s mind.
Listening further, she pieced together fragments of the conversation to understand the dynamic.
For some reason, Yu Zhiwan and Liu Huanran lived under the same roof, even publicly claiming Liu Huanran was her fiancée while they “tested the waters.” In reality, Yu Zhiwan likely didn’t like Liu Huanran, and there was no real intimacy between them.
This mysterious figure, after stalking Yu Zhiwan, was now pressuring Liu Huanran to forcibly mark her and impregnate her to solidify their relationship using a child and the bond to trap Yu Zhiwan. Liu Huanran had refused, at least on the surface.
It seemed this person was monitoring their lives.
The clues were too many and too tangled. Pei Yujiang didn’t have time to dwell on why this stalker cared so much about Yu Zhiwan and Liu Huanran or why they needed Liu Huanran to harm Yu Zhiwan indirectly. If they were going to such lengths, they likely lacked the means or will to act directly.
But how long could Liu Huanran hold out?
Pei Yujiang wouldn’t generalize, but as a former Alpha herself, she understood all too well during a rut, Alphas were in an extremely volatile state, their rationality diminished. Often, only after sating their urges could they regain clarity.
And Liu Huanran wasn’t exactly the most self-disciplined Alpha to begin with her usual attitude towards Yu Zhiwan reeked of greasy arrogance.
What if one day she couldn’t hold back and really ended up hurting that fragile Omega?
The mere thought of it made her heart ache as if ants were gnawing at it, leaving behind a dull, lingering pain.
