Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Boss of the Disabled Heroine - Chapter 17
The old residential area saw little foot traffic, especially in the basement, where only the occasional person parked their car at night. That person sneered a few more sarcastic remarks at Liu Huanran before leaving.
Pei Yujiang waited until she was certain the person had left before emerging. She saw Yu Zhiwan’s home brightly lit, with only a thin curtain drawn. A figure moved about inside likely Liu Huanran, who had already returned.
Pei Yujiang stood at the base of the building for a few minutes before heading home. Suddenly, she remembered something and opened the chat group between the original owner and her trusted subordinates.
She had been swamped with work recently, and after the incident of Yu Zhiwan being drugged was resolved smoothly, Pei Yujiang had temporarily set it aside. Now, she finally addressed it, cutting straight to the point in the small group by tagging the person in question:
“You didn’t go behind my back and drug Yu Zhiwan that day, did you?”
The subordinate panicked and replied, “How could I? I would never disobey the young miss’s orders!”
Pei Yujiang snorted coldly. “You’d better not be lying to me.”
The subordinate was thoroughly frightened and hurriedly provided evidence to prove his loyalty, even sending Pei Yujiang his expense records, terrified that she might suspect him.
Pei Yujiang wasn’t actually that suspicious of him after all, drugging Yu Zhiwan wouldn’t benefit him in any way and would only make her unhappy.
The original owner had kept a few lackeys around, treating them like charity cases, showering them with generous rewards usually double payments: one upfront and another upon successful completion of tasks. Working under her was a lucrative gig, and none of these sycophants wanted to lose their positions.
Seeing that her warning had landed, Pei Yujiang feigned impatience and dropped a final line:
“Stop blabbering. I want solid evidence.”
Drugging someone required time, place, and means. Purchase records could be faked, but surveillance footage couldn’t. The original owner had a habit of speaking cryptically, leaving her subordinates to read between the lines. Pei Yujiang nailed the act, then unceremoniously muted the group.
These days, even the workplace was cutthroat, but Pei Yujiang hadn’t expected the original owner’s lackeys to be just as ruthless. Not long after she reprimanded the subordinate in the group, another underling privately sent her a surveillance video.
Astonished by their efficiency, Pei Yujiang opened the footage. About a minute in, her brows slowly furrowed, and the smile on her lips vanished.
Yu Zhiwan had been so cautious that day she hadn’t touched anything consumable. But no matter how careful she was, she hadn’t guarded against those closest to her. Pei Yujiang stared intently at the clear footage as Liu Huanran, hands trembling, carefully fished a small vial from her pocket. When no one was looking, she waved it near Yu Zhiwan’s nose and mouth.
Yu Zhiwan coughed, and Liu Huanran immediately stashed it away.
A short while later, Yu Zhiwan felt unwell and went to the restroom. Liu Huanran paced anxiously on the spot, her face tense, before hurrying to the door to look for her. When she couldn’t find her, she went upstairs.
It was clear from these actions that Liu Huanran was doing this for the first time her hands shook with nerves. Pei Yujiang recognized that small vial, it contained a pseudo-heat inducer, harmless to the body but designed as a cruel prank. It made an Omega mimic the symptoms of a heat cycle, though the effects wore off in about half an hour.
But whether Liu Huanran had intended to scare Yu Zhiwan, play the “hero saving the beauty,” or was plotting something else remained unclear. Combined with what she’d overheard today, Pei Yujiang’s heart pounded wildly.
If this continued, Yu Zhiwan would inevitably end up in real danger.
Even in the original storyline, where Liu Huanran was her official love interest destined for a fiery pursuit of redemption, the woman’s current actions bullying a blind girl who couldn’t see had already crossed every line.

Pei Yujiang was a decisive person who hated beating around the bush.
With Liu Huanran repeatedly overstepping boundaries, every day delayed meant another day of danger for Yu Zhiwan staying near such a person.
Once her busy schedule eased, Pei Yujiang ignored the system’s protests and directly used “Xiao Yu’s” account to invite Yu Zhiwan out.
Dining together had become routine for them. Aside from Miss Zhao, Yu Zhiwan seemed to have little social life and was happy to spend time with the righteous and lively “Xiao Yu.”
However, today Yu Zhiwan mentioned she had something to attend to and would need to leave after the meal. Pei Yujiang, of course, understood. Her goal wasn’t idle chatter but to enlighten this naive blind girl.
After they finished eating, Pei Yujiang exchanged a few pleasantries before seizing the opportunity to broach the subject. She pulled up a news article about an Alpha coercing an Omega and read it aloud, summarizing carefully while observing Yu Zhiwan’s expression.
With a seemingly casual sigh though inwardly seething at that scumbag Alpha Liu Huanran she remarked:
“Alphas can be very dangerous. You should be careful living with one.”
Yu Zhiwan remained calm, merely asking curiously, “Aren’t you an Alpha too?”
Pei Yujiang had anticipated this question and was ready with an answer, gleefully shedding another layer of the “Xiao Yu” persona:
“Actually, I’m not…”
Feigning hesitation, she explained how she’d ended up with Alpha pheromones omitting, of course, the part about purchasing Alpha pheromone extract, which would have blown her cover.
Yu Zhiwan was easy to reassure. After listening, she nodded seriously before smiling, as if amused by the misunderstanding.
“I see,” she said, then abruptly changed the subject. “Can I touch your face?”
Pei Yujiang hadn’t expected such a swift topic shift and let out a surprised “Huh?”
A faint blush colored the Omega’s cheeks as Yu Zhiwan smiled shyly, her voice tinged with anticipation:
“I just want to know what my good friend looks like. Could you indulge my curiosity?”
So that was it. Pei Yujiang touched her own face, quickly weighing her options.
She was confident in her looks back when she was Alpha General Pei, plenty of admirers had been drawn to her appearance. Still, just in case, she didn’t want Yu Zhiwan knowing what she looked like.
As Pei Yujiang debated how to respond, someone strode through the restaurant entrance, phone in hand.
“Hold on, let me grab a friend first, I’ll call you back when I get home. Wanwan!” Zhao Manlin called out lightly, “I’m here!”
Pei Yujiang stiffened at the sight of the newcomer, frozen in place.
