Chapter 75: Help from the Gods
Yang Xue was a woman of action. With a single thought, the machinery stored in her Space appeared steadily before her on the barren land.
She didn’t waste a moment. Once the equipment was out, she immediately began operating it. Yang Lao San’s family was sleeping soundly, never dreaming that by the time dawn broke, two mu of land would be fully tilled and leveled, perfectly ready for seeds.
The next morning, Yang Xue acted as if nothing had happened. However, she could hardly suppress a smirk imagining the shocked expressions her family would wear when they saw the transformed fields.
“Second Sister, what are you smiling at?” Yang Yu stood beside her, blinking curiously.
Yang Xue cleared her throat and wiped the grin off her face. “Nothing. Hurry up and wash so we can eat breakfast and get to work.”
“Okay!”
After breakfast, Huang Zhongcai and Huang Zhongqing arrived. The whole group packed their lunch and headed down the mountain together. As they passed the village fields, the locals greeted them warmly.
When they reached their own plot, everyone—except Yang Xue—froze. Their eyes widened in pure disbelief. They remembered clearly that they hadn’t even finished clearing a single patch of weeds yesterday, yet now, two full mu were beautifully tilled.
Furthermore, the furrows were so straight and precise it looked unnatural.
Qian Yue’e pointed at the fields, her voice trembling. “D-do you see this? The land… it’s already finished.”
The others swallowed hard and nodded slowly. “We… we see it.”
Is our family haunted? Does the land here plow itself?
Yang Xue watched their reactions, struggling to keep a straight face while pretending to be surprised. “What on earth happened?”
Heaven knew how hard it would have been to clear those rocks manually. Thank goodness for the combined soil preparer in her Space; otherwise, she would have spent all night just picking up pebbles.
The family stood there like statues, looking as if they had seen a ghost.
“Dad, Mom,” Yang Xue broke the silence. “Regardless of how it happened, the land is ready. Let’s just start sowing the seeds.”
Huang Zhongcai, still wary of spirits, hesitated. “Could there be some… problem with this?”
Yang Xue waved a hand dismissively. “Who cares? Maybe our family is just too kind, and some god decided to help us out.”
At her words, everyone’s eyes snapped to her. Yang Xue quickly raised her hands in defense. “I’m just guessing! Just a guess!”
Yang Lao San and Qian Yue’e exchanged a look, then glanced at the Huang siblings. A lightbulb went off in their heads. When Yang Xue mentioned “gods,” she must have meant her prophetic dreams again! But because the Huangs were present, she couldn’t speak plainly and had to use a metaphor.
The family immediately “understood.” No one questioned the mystery of the tilled land anymore. As for why they believed the “help from the gods” theory? Well, if Yang Xue could dream of floods and future events, what was a bit of midnight plowing? Besides, who else but a god could flip two mu of land in a single night? It would have taken the whole family days!
They felt a surge of pride. Our family is truly favored by the heavens.
Yang Xue, unaware of their complex mental gymnastics, felt relieved that they had dropped the subject. Today’s work—sowing seeds—was much lighter. Since the shack only needed the bamboo woven in, Yang Lao San stayed to do that while Huang Zhongcai went to fetch water for the fields.
As they were busy, Sun Qiuping (Second Aunt Yang) arrived.
Unlike the other villagers, Sun Qiuping didn’t think the third branch was crazy for buying inferior land. She suspected Yang Lao San must have “heard” something again. Now that her family had separated and been given one mu of inferior land, she wanted to see what they were planting so she could follow suit. She also hoped to buy the one mu of inferior land that the old family had originally given to the third branch.
Seeing her, Qian Yue’e stopped her work. “Second Sister-in-law.”
Sun Qiuping looked at her. “Third Sister-in-law, I have something to discuss. Can you spare a moment?”
“Of course. Let’s talk over there, under the shade,” Qian Yue’e said, pointing to a large tree.
Once in the shade, Sun Qiuping got straight to the point. “We’ve separated from the main house.”
“What? You separated too?” Qian Yue’e was stunned. How did Old Man Yang ever agree to that?
“Yes, yesterday.”
“Are you all okay?” Qian Yue’e asked with genuine concern.
“We’re fine. Honestly, leaving that house feels like a weight has been lifted. We’re living in that abandoned courtyard in the village now.”
Sun Qiuping then shared her thoughts. “I came to ask what you’re planting. We only have one mu of inferior land and I don’t know what to do with it. I see you’ve bought so much of it, so you must have a plan. I want to follow your lead.”
Qian Yue’e hesitated. While Sun Qiuping hadn’t actively bullied them in the past, they hadn’t been close either. She didn’t know if she could trust her with their family secrets.
Seeing her hesitation, Sun Qiuping sighed. She didn’t want to push. “It’s okay, don’t feel pressured. There’s one more thing: that one mu of inferior land you were given during your separation—would you be willing to sell it to me?”
She figured that with two mu of inferior land, even if the harvest was poor, it might just be enough to keep her family alive.
