Chapter 54: Take the Blame for Me When I Hit Someone
After putting the grain away and coming back out, Yang Xue saw the siblings, Huang Zhongcai and Huang Zhongqing, standing defensively in front of Yang Chunlin and Yang Miao.
Seeing this, Yang Xue couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow inwardly, thinking that these two were quite sharp and knew how to read the room.
“Sister, Xiaoyu, Xiaotian, look who’s here!”
Yang Shuang, Yang Yu, and Yang Tian reacted immediately: “Little Uncle! You’re here!”
It was Huang Zhongcai’s first time taking on such a “role,” and he felt a bit awkward, but he responded quickly: “Mm, I’m here.”
When they looked at Huang Zhongqing, however, they looked a bit dazed.
Yang Xue quickly added, “This is our Little Aunt. She’s grown up a bit, are you having trouble recognizing her?”
Yang Shuang looked at Huang Zhongqing, who was much smaller than herself. Her lips twitched slightly, but she still managed to call out, “Little Aunt.”
Yang Yu and Yang Tian followed suit immediately: “Little Aunt~!”
Although Huang Zhongqing already knew she had to pose as their aunt to stay by her brother’s side, being addressed that way still made her a bit flustered. Huang Zhongcai gently patted her back, and she finally gave a soft “Mm” in response.
“Uncle, Great Uncle and the others were stealing our grain and hitting us!” Yang Yu cried out.
Hearing this, Huang Zhongcai understood the assignment perfectly. He set down the basket from his shoulders, cracked his knuckles, and strode toward Yang Eldest.
Then…
The forest echoed with Yang Eldest’s wailing pleas for mercy.
Yang Chunlin and Yang Miao watched in stunned silence as Huang Zhongcai handled Yang Eldest like a helpless chick. They had thought these two strangers could prove Yang Xue was assaulting her elders, but it turned out they were clearly on the same side.
“Yang Xue! Tell your uncle to stop! Do you want him to kill my father?”
Yang Xue looked completely indifferent. “If he kills him, you can just report it to the authorities and have them take my uncle away.”
“Yang Xue, you wretched girl!”
“Little Uncle, Big Cousin wants to hit me too!” Yang Xue called out.
Huang Zhongcai turned his head and was in front of Yang Chunlin in three steps. Seeing his fierce aura, Yang Chunlin tried to bolt, but before he could move, Huang Zhongcai grabbed him by the back of his collar.
A moment later, the person wailing in the woods changed.
…
By the time Yang Chunshu returned with a group of villagers, Yang Eldest and Yang Chunlin had been beaten to the ground and were squatting with their heads in their hands, crying bitterly.
As soon as Yang Miao saw the villagers, she rushed over. “Help! That man is going to kill my father and brother!”
Hearing that someone might be killed, the villagers quickened their pace. However, when they arrived, they only saw the father and son huddled together, weeping.
“What’s going on here?”
Yang Miao immediately pointed at Yang Xue. “Yang Xue assaulted her elders and told her uncle to beat them! My father and brother were beaten so badly they can’t even move!”
The villagers hurried over to check on them, only to find that aside from some messy hair, they looked perfectly fine. There was no outward sign that they were “unable to move.”
“Cousin Miao, you came to steal our grain, and my uncle only blocked you from taking it. You shouldn’t frame him like that,” Yang Xue said innocently.
Huang Zhongcai maintained a cold face. “Hmph! An entire family is coming to rob my sister’s house… never mind that I didn’t hit you, but even if I did, what could you do about it?”
The villagers, hearing that Yang Eldest had come to steal grain, were instantly annoyed. They were busy people with work to do.
“Let’s go, let’s go. People like this deserve a beating.”
The villagers originally felt a sense of debt toward Yang San (Yang Xue’s father), so they rushed over when they heard she was “assaulting elders.” However, they hadn’t come to scold her—they had come to persuade Yang Eldest not to press charges. Now that they saw it was all a lie fabricated because a robbery failed, they were disgusted.
The Yang Eldest family was stunned.
“Wait! Don’t go! This girl beat her elder, isn’t anyone going to do anything? Fine, find the Village Head! Get him here! We need an explanation for this today!”
One villager replied dryly, “The Village Head is currently having tea with the County Magistrate and the Secretary. If you want him, go find him yourself.”
With that, the villagers left to get back to their mining work.
…
Once everyone was gone, Yang Xue’s expression turned cold. She walked over and stepped heavily on Yang Eldest’s shoulder, looking down at them. “Uncle, did you think that just because I call you ‘Uncle,’ I wouldn’t actually hurt you? If you dare come back, I’ll break your legs and throw you into the mountains to feed the wolves.”
“Yang Xue! You wouldn’t dare!”
Yang Xue pressed her foot down harder. “Try me!!”
Yang Eldest let out another howl. She gave them each a final kick and glared at Yang Miao and Yang Chunshu. “Get them out of here now, or do you really want me to feed them to the wolves?”
Damn it, she thought, if I wasn’t afraid of contaminating my space, I’d just finish them off and use them as fertilizer.
Terrified, Yang Miao and Yang Chunshu scrambled to help their father and brother away.
Once they were gone, Yang Xue turned to Huang Zhongcai. “You’ve seen how it is. If I ever lose my temper and start hitting people in the future, I’ll have to trouble you to take the blame for me, Little Uncle.”
As a junior, if Yang Xue beat an elder, she would be drowned in gossip or even punished by law. But if “Little Uncle” did it to protect his niece and nephew, that was a different story. At most, it would be seen as a heated scuffle, requiring some minor medical compensation.
However, Yang Xue was confident she could control her strength well enough that they wouldn’t have to pay a single copper in medical fees.
Huang Zhongcai nodded. “I understand.”
Yang Xue smiled. “Don’t be so serious, Uncle. Come, let me introduce you properly. This is my sister Yang Shuang, and the little ones are Yang Yu and Yang Tian. You can just call them by their names.”
“Sister, kids, this is our Little Uncle, Huang Zhongcai, and our Little Aunt, Huang Zhongqing.”
“Little Uncle! Little Aunt!” Yang Yu and Yang Tian chirped happily.
Yang Shuang nodded but pulled Yang Xue aside. “Xue’er, weren’t you looking for someone to protect us? Why is there a little girl too?”
“They’re siblings, I didn’t want to separate them. Plus, she doesn’t ask for wages and can help with chores. It’s a win-win.”
Yang Xue didn’t tell the whole truth. Her real thought was that someone like Huang Zhongcai, who kept his most precious person by his side, was much easier to control. It sounded cold, but she needed people she could trust and manage.
