Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 77
“Is this your… wife?” Fu Chenyang looked at the woman beside Wen Huaxi with some surprise.
She remembered Yan Qinglan clearly. After all, she and Fufu had once helped her out of the martial arts world.
As for Wen Huaxi, they had met by chance at a shared table. Since then, they occasionally liked each other’s posts online and chatted from time to time. You could say they were friendly online acquaintances.
It wasn’t until recently that Fu Chenyang realized Wen Huaxi was an actress. She had debuted in a film directed by Qin Shuyue, which was about to be released.
Promotional photos had already been shared. They were stunning, enough to shut down the doubters who questioned casting a newcomer, and they even attracted fans who were drawn by her visuals alone.
Fu Chenyang remembered Wen Huaxi was still very young and hadn’t graduated from university.
Was this what people meant by marrying young?
“Yes. What a coincidence. Did you and your girlfriend come together too?” Wen Huaxi asked warmly.
Fu Chenyang didn’t know that it wasn’t a coincidence at all.
She and Yan Qinglan had come here specifically to meet them.
Yan Qinglan stood quietly beside Wen Huaxi, watching her chat easily with someone else. Her expression darkened.
Even though she knew what Wen Huaxi was doing and why, just knowing this variety show involved romantic themes made her uncomfortable.
“Yes. Fufu went to ask the crew something. I’ll introduce her to you later… although, wait, we’ve actually met your wife before,” Fu Chenyang said with a chuckle.
She caught Yan Qinglan’s gaze and suddenly felt nervous.
The last time they met, she had not found her intimidating. Just a sickly woman who fainted and needed Fufu’s help.
“I heard. Thank you for helping her,” Yan Qinglan replied just as Yin Fujun walked over.
As soon as she saw her girlfriend, Fu Chenyang’s attention shifted completely.
Yan Qinglan had thought she and Wen Huaxi were already close enough, but watching those two made her feel competitive. Quietly, she reached out and held Wen Huaxi’s hand.
Wen Huaxi didn’t understand what that was about but obediently tightened her grip.
“The scriptwriter didn’t seem suspicious,” Yin Fujun answered when Fu Chenyang asked.
“Then maybe it was just a coincidence. Don’t worry too much, Fufu. Look, our old friends are here too,” Fu Chenyang said as she pointed toward Wen Huaxi and Yan Qinglan, who were still observing the meeting area.
Yin Fujun noticed Wen Huaxi and, for a moment, her normally cold face revealed a trace of confusion.
Then she caught sight of Yan Qinglan, and her brows furrowed slightly.
“Fufu, what’s wrong? We saw them last time too, remember? After we left that place,” Fu Chenyang said gently.
Even if no one else noticed, she could always read her girlfriend’s expressions.
“It’s nothing.” Yin Fujun softened her gaze and reached up to pat the head of her taller girlfriend.
“Dinner tonight?”
Fu Chenyang immediately understood that she meant, “with them.”
“I’ll ask them.”
“You want to have dinner with us? Sure,” Wen Huaxi replied casually.
“I’ll pick the place,” Yan Qinglan finally spoke, stepping in calmly and steering the conversation away, gently sending Fu Chenyang off.
Wen Huaxi raised her brows slightly.
“She doesn’t seem to know anything.”
Yan Qinglan made a quick assessment. Not only was Fu Chenyang likely unaware of the sacred artifacts, but she also didn’t seem to have any ancient cultivation talent. She couldn’t even sense the energy fluctuations from Yan Qinglan.
But Yin Fujun was different.
Yan Qinglan had seen her holding a moving staff. And based on her reaction today, something was definitely off.
Plus, she had taken the initiative to suggest meeting. Everything was going more smoothly than Yan Qinglan had expected.
“I think so too. But her girlfriend is hard to approach. I didn’t even get her contact info last time,” Wen Huaxi said while giving Yan Qinglan’s hand a squeeze.
“Let’s not overthink it. Let’s just focus on filming the show. This is my first time appearing in front of the public.”
She left out the words “in this life” because of the setting.
“Alright,” Yan Qinglan replied softly.
They waited another thirty minutes before the rest of the guests arrived, none of whom Wen Huaxi knew personally.
The show was pre-recorded.
The production team gave everyone scripts and ten minutes to read and discuss them.
The storyline was a fantasy romance. It followed a divine heir who fled with a sacred artifact to prevent a foretold disaster.
The guests were companions she met during her escape, helping her solve puzzles and overcome obstacles.
Of course, the main focus was still romance.
The audience wouldn’t know which guests were real couples and which ones were single. Fans could freely guess and pair up whoever they liked. The truth would be revealed in the final episode.
Wen Huaxi didn’t hide her relationship status. She let Yan Qinglan stick close.
In the end, it was about her acting. Not her love life.
If all her fans cared about was her being someone’s girlfriend, then maybe she wasn’t as good an actress as she thought.
Yan Qinglan glanced at the other guests and thought for a moment.
“Xiaoxi, should we wear our rings?”
They had married originally by agreement, and aside from acting in front of Yan Mingzhu, neither of them had made a habit of wearing their rings.
“Sure… wait, no. There are still two weeks left. I refuse.”
Even though they were holding hands tightly and nearly pressed together in the dim tunnel, Wen Huaxi still said no.
“Alright. I’ll have a new pair made.”
Their current rings had just been randomly chosen from a jewelry shop. They didn’t feel special.
“Then shouldn’t you propose again? And plan a wedding? I’ve never had one.”
They were legally married, but emotionally still just girlfriends. No wonder everything felt a bit awkward.
“You’re right. I’ll start planning tonight.”
They spoke so naturally and softly that, even though no one else on set could hear, the crew in the control room picked up every word through the audio feed.
The director, who already knew Yan Qinglan wasn’t ordinary, hesitated for a moment.
Should this scene be left in the final cut?
That same day, the production team got a message confirming the ring scene could be aired.
Then it all made sense. The powerful “wife” had deliberately used the show to make their relationship public.
The shoot went smoothly. Once it wrapped up, Yan Qinglan had Wen Huaxi message Fu Chenyang the dinner location. Then she took Wen Huaxi and left first, wanting to enjoy a little time with just the two of them.
“How childish are you? Yan Qinglan, those two are clearly a couple too.”
Sitting in the car, Wen Huaxi poked Yan Qinglan’s cheek. She finally realized why Qinglan had brought up the ring during the show.
“I just wanted everyone to know about our relationship,” Yan Qinglan said without hesitation. She did not care how childish she might seem. As long as her wife was not annoyed, it did not matter.
“I know,” Wen Huaxi huffed softly. She leaned against Qinglan’s shoulder, gently rubbing against it as she began thinking about the show’s plotline.
Even though the storyline was not the main focus, the production team had clearly put some effort into it.
There was a segment where participants had to roleplay a specific assigned character to pass.
The characters that Qinglan and Huaxi received were relatively simple. However, from what Wen Huaxi observed, the roles given to others were not exactly traditional cultivators. The system was not as structured as those in historical settings, and the worldview felt more modern.
To put it simply, the setting reminded her a lot of Meng Qingzhou and Yin Fujun.
Especially the so-called Three Mythical Goddesses. They were born from the sun, moon, and stars, possessing immense power and acting as protectors of their people.
There were no traditional cultivation levels or ranks. These goddesses were more like real deities who only used spiritual power.
In this context, the so-called ancient cultivation talent could also be considered a type of spiritual ability.
The more she thought about it, the more the background of the story felt like the martial arts world. It closely resembled the descriptions of urban cultivation.
And that “sacred treasure” mentioned in the script began to seem even more suspicious.
After hearing Wen Huaxi’s theory, Yan Qinglan started to feel uneasy as well.
“I do not think this is a coincidence. Your instinct might be right,” she said, holding Wen Huaxi’s hand tightly.
“Fu Chenyang and her group are clearly here looking for a sacred item. Given how important that item is supposed to be, they should not be wasting time on a variety show.”
“That makes a lot of sense. I thought maybe they were just short on money. Fu Chenyang is always posting on social media asking people to like her posts to get free stuff.”
Wen Huaxi was projecting a little. One of her own reasons for joining the show had been to earn money.
Yan Qinglan nodded and kept her deeper suspicions to herself.
There was no evidence yet, but she had a strong feeling.
That jade ring had been stored in a locked, untouched room before it disappeared. Somehow, their child had brought it out. That could not be a coincidence.
And then there was her other mother, the one she had never seen before.
Could she be the so-called Holy Child?
Everything might be answered by the person they were meeting for dinner that night.
“I do not want to waste time. This has been bothering us for a long time, so I will be direct.”
Once they were seated and the dishes were ordered, Yan Qinglan spoke to Yin Fujun.
Yin Fujun simply raised her eyebrows slightly.
“You are looking for the sacred item, aren’t you?”
When she heard the term, Yin Fujun finally showed some emotion. Her expression remained calm, but it was clear that she was surprised.
“You could also call it the Sacred Gu,” she replied.
As the current Holy Child, Yin Fujun knew more than anyone else. This journey was prompted by an ancestral prophecy, and they were determined to recover the Sacred Gu.
“Gu? You mean like some kind of bug?”
The idea made Yan Qinglan’s skin crawl.
She carried that ring everywhere, and their child had been holding it at birth.
“No,” Yin Fujun said calmly. She did not intend to explain further and simply took a sip of tea with her eyes closed.
Sitting beside her, Fu Chenyang finally got a chance to speak.
“What Fufu means is that in the past, most gu were insects. But now it is different. After the Sacred Gu appeared, anything can become a gu vessel, as long as the spiritual power is strong enough.”
Yin Fujun nodded in agreement.
Wen Huaxi quickly caught on. This couple was certainly interesting. One barely spoke, and the other loved to talk nonstop.
Yan Qinglan felt a small sense of relief.
“Have you ever heard of someone named Gu Lian?” she asked, keeping her expression neutral while continuing to probe Yin Fujun.
“Gu family. Fifty-third generation. Third male cousin once removed. Bloodline too diluted to be named by seniority. Sixty years ago, almost caused the loss of the Sacred Gu. Thirty years ago, attempted to assassinate the previous Holy Child but failed. Since then, has been forbidden to return to the martial arts world.”
Yin Fujun recited the information like a machine retrieving archived data. Her voice held no emotion.
Then she turned to Yan Qinglan.
“And you. Your name is Qing something.”
Yan Qinglan was not particularly surprised. She nodded.
“My name is Yan Qinglan.”
To be honest, even if they had not worked together during the show, this girl should have at least heard her name, right?
Surely she had not been zoning out the entire time.
Yin Fujun said nothing more. She looked like she had, in fact, drifted off.
Fu Chenyang continued the conversation.
“Fufu wants to tell you a story. The martial arts world was discovered and founded by three sisters. They each took one character from their names, becoming Gu, Yin, and Meng. Together with their families and friends, they settled in this world.”
“Gu was the eldest sister. Her name came from her special ability. She could control external objects, what modern people now call gu magic. Thanks to her help, the martial arts world quickly became suitable for living.”
“Yin was the second sister. She had outstanding leadership. Even though her magical power was not as strong as her elder sister’s, everyone who migrated with them willingly accepted her guidance and rule.”
“Meng was the youngest sister. She had incredible intuition and a sixth sense. In other words, she had the gift of prophecy. She helped the clan avoid disasters many times.”
“Though the three sisters were not born on the same day, month, or year, they died together on the same day. After their deaths, their flesh and blood turned into the first sacred item. It was also a form of gu that protected their people for over a thousand years.”
