Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 76
The moment their eyes met, Yan Qinglan reached out and pulled Wen Huaxi into her arms.
“Got kicked out?” she asked softly. What a perfect opportunity. Yan Qinglan felt incredibly grateful to Wen Suixue today.
“You’re the one who got kicked out,” Wen Huaxi snapped, pinching her arm, though she did not actually push her away.
“I really was kicked out. I don’t want to go anywhere without you,” Yan Qinglan said, pressing the elevator button and holding Wen Huaxi even tighter.
“So will you come home with me, or are we sleeping on the streets together?”
“Since you’re asking so sincerely, I guess I’ll reluctantly go home with you,” Wen Huaxi said, casually slinging her bag over Yan Qinglan’s shoulder.
“Thank you, sweetheart. I’m honored.” What a pleasant surprise.
Finally, the toiletries Yan Qinglan had been carrying around would not go to waste.
Wen Huaxi leaned against her with a small hum and, for once, didn’t say anything sharp.
Once they got in the car, Yan Qinglan opened the box of snacks she had brought and placed them in front of Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi snatched the spoon from her hand, refusing to let her feed her.
Halfway through eating, Wen Huaxi suddenly gasped, and the spoon dropped to the floor.
“What’s wrong? Is it bad?” Yan Qinglan still hadn’t realized the real issue.
“No. Yan Qinglan, you terrible woman. Our daughter. We left our daughter at my sister’s place!” Wen Huaxi covered her face in horror.
She had forgotten all about their baby.
It was all Wen Suixue’s fault for rushing her and physically throwing her out.
It was also Yan Qinglan’s fault for suddenly showing up in the elevator and whisking her away.
Yan Qinglan suddenly realized what felt like it was missing.
“I’ll drop you off first, then go pick up our little one and the cats.”
She had been so focused on bringing her wife home that she completely forgot they had a child.
“No. Our daughter is so sensitive. If I don’t go with you, she’ll get upset.”
Just like last time, when she got mad at Yan Qinglan simply because she didn’t come greet her first upon entering the house.
“It’s fine. I’ll just tell her you’re busy.”
Yan Qinglan was clearly trying to stop Wen Huaxi from going back to Wen Suixue’s home.
Wen Huaxi noticed immediately. She narrowed her eyes and stared at her.
“Do you think that if I go back to my sister’s place, I won’t leave with you again?”
Yan Qinglan looked away, and her meaning was obvious.
Wen Huaxi was both annoyed and resigned. She knew full well she was capable of doing just that.
“Alright, fine. I promised to go home with you. Tell the driver to head to my sister’s place.”
Wen Huaxi poked her playfully.
“Qing-jiejie, you’re not going to say no to this tiny request of mine, are you?”
Yan Qinglan sighed in defeat.
“A promise made to my darling must be kept. Otherwise, you’ll be sad.”
“Exactly. But just so we’re clear, your sentence isn’t over yet. I’m not going into your bedroom.”
Wen Huaxi paused, remembering the scene of their drawn boundary that night, and added another line.
“You’re also not allowed in my bedroom.”
“Alright,” Yan Qinglan replied with a smile, but her thoughts were already heading in a different direction.
Their daughter, finally retrieved after both moms had to make a U-turn, had no idea there had been any delay. If she had known, she definitely would have cried for five whole minutes.
Once she returned to her familiar environment, she was thrilled. After listening to bedtime stories from both Mama and Mommy, she happily drifted off to sleep.
After dinner, Wen Huaxi rushed back to her room and locked the door, determined to resist any temptation from Yan Qinglan.
Half an hour passed with no movement outside her door.
An hour passed. The house was as quiet as if Yan Qinglan were not even there.
After an hour and a half, Wen Huaxi could no longer lie still. She quietly unlocked her door and opened it just a crack.
Before she could even push it open, she felt the handle bump into something.
Peering through the gap, Wen Huaxi saw Yan Qinglan sitting right outside her door.
“What are you doing? You scared me,” Wen Huaxi gasped and quickly stepped back.
Yan Qinglan used the moment to slip inside the room and caught her before she could move farther away.
That was when Wen Huaxi noticed what Yan Qinglan was wearing.
Her bathrobe hung loosely off her shoulders. Beads of water clung to her neck, arms, and chest.
Her face was slightly flushed from the heat of the shower, glowing with a delicate rosy hue.
They were standing so close that Wen Huaxi could feel the warmth from her skin and smell the lavender scent she liked so much.
Her breathing quickened. She could clearly see the fine fuzz on Yan Qinglan’s face, still moist with steam.
Her gentle gaze looked like spring water under a crescent moon.
Wen Huaxi’s heartbeat was completely out of rhythm. As she stepped backward in a fluster, she lost her footing and fell onto the bed.
Yan Qinglan took in all of her panic and shyness with a knowing smile. She leaned in slowly.
She did nothing more than what Wen Huaxi had done a few nights ago.
She simply stayed close, letting her lips brush past Wen Huaxi’s neck and her breath drift across her ear.
Wen Huaxi’s hands gripped Yan Qinglan’s waist, the way one might offer encouragement or silently invite someone closer.
Yan Qinglan responded by gently caressing her face, then slowly moving her hand lower.
She was trying to break the last boundary between them.
“No,” Wen Huaxi finally whispered, her voice trembling, as she pressed her hands against Yan Qinglan to stop her.
“No?” Yan Qinglan paused and asked again, just to be sure.
“Not tonight. I’m not ready yet,” Wen Huaxi said firmly, then pushed her off.
She had not even made it a full month yet. She could not let herself fall for temptation so easily.
“Then how about a hug?” Yan Qinglan sat up and fixed her robe, trying to regain some composure.
Her robe was barely staying on.
Her hair was still damp, strands sticking to her cheeks, some tucked behind her ear.
Wen Huaxi looked at the scene in front of her and almost turned into a blushing mess again.
With steam practically rising from her ears, she shyly reached out her hands to Yan Qinglan.
It wasn’t her fault her willpower was weak. Yan Qinglan was just too sneaky.
This old fox had clearly set a trap. First she lured her into unlocking the door, then walked in without warning.
“How did you even get into my room?” Wen Huaxi buried her face in Yan Qinglan’s chest, still trying to sound a little stern.
“I was afraid you might fall,” Yan Qinglan said with a serious face, leaning in to sniff her neck.
“You didn’t wash your hair today, did you? Let me dry it for you.”
“Stop sniffing,” Wen Huaxi turned her head, her ears already burning red.
“It doesn’t smell bad,” Yan Qinglan tried to nuzzle her again, but Wen Huaxi pushed her away.
“I’m going to take a shower. You just sit there and don’t move,” she said and quickly ran into the bathroom.
As soon as the door shut, Yan Qinglan looked at the knot of her robe and pulled it tighter. Her eyes darkened slightly.
So close.
She had definitely used Wen Huaxi’s soft heart and her own freshly-showered appearance to her advantage.
What Wen Huaxi didn’t know was that Yan Qinglan had taken four or five showers just to get the timing and look right.
She never expected Wen Huaxi to last a whole hour and a half.
But because of that, her flushed skin and visible steam made her look even more convincing.
She was tired of playing the sympathy card.
Apparently, seduction was far more effective than she had imagined.
Wen Huaxi did not end up pushing her out of the room.
While helping to dry Wen Huaxi’s hair, Yan Qinglan casually ran her fingers through her hair and tried asking if she could sleep in the same bed.
“No way. Yan Qinglan, you shameless little… old woman.”
Wen Huaxi had to try very hard just to get that insult out.
“Old?” Yan Qinglan twitched at the corner of her mouth.
She was a few years older than Wen Huaxi, yes, but she was only thirty. That did not qualify as old.
“Maybe little pervert fits better?” Wen Huaxi muttered. Just calling her shameless felt too weak.
That did not sound much better either.
“So it’s still a no?” Yan Qinglan asked again.
“I already said no. Keep this up, and I’ll move back to my sister’s place.”
Wen Huaxi crossed her arms and gave a warning.
“Alright then. I’ll try again tomorrow.”
The next day, the dating show contract arrived. Wen Huaxi stared at it for a while, then called Yan Qinglan.
“Yan Qinglan, why did you sign us up as a couple? I remember saying we would apply separately.”
Being registered as a couple meant more romantic challenges. Wen Huaxi did not mind people knowing about their relationship, but she and Yan Qinglan had not officially made up yet.
“The individual spots were all taken,” Yan Qinglan said without a change in expression.
“Besides, Xiaoxi, couple slots get more screen time and higher pay. I’ll give everything I earn to you.”
Wen Huaxi compared the pros and cons and finally gave up on arguing.
“So what’s your plan today? You only have two classes left. Want to grab dinner together?”
Yan Qinglan paused for a moment, saw that Wen Huaxi did not scold her, and then spoke again.
“I have an audition. I am not sure when it will end, but just come get me when you’re done.”
“Then I’ll wait and eat with you. I’ll come after class,” Wen Huaxi replied.
Yan Qinglan added the reminder to her calendar.
Wen Huaxi finished class at six, but the audition lasted until after eight.
Yan Qinglan sat waiting at the door, looking a little worn out.
If she had known it would go that long, she would have told Wen Huaxi to eat first.
“Qing-jiejie? You’ve been here waiting for me this whole time?” Wen Huaxi finally came out and was surprised to see Yan Qinglan still there.
“I thought it would be over quickly,” Yan Qinglan sighed. “Let’s go home and eat.”
“I sent you a message. This director is known for being very demanding. Not only is she strict about the audition process, but she also likes to discuss characters and plot in depth. An audition with her never finishes in under an hour.”
Wen Huaxi took Yan Qinglan’s arm.
“Since you were so pitiful today, I’ll allow you to sleep in my room tonight.”
After a long, exhausting day, seeing her lover waiting there the whole time brought a complicated kind of warmth to her heart.
That was why she decided to give in.
She knew the current Yan Qinglan would wait patiently, no matter how long it took.
“Really?” Yan Qinglan thought she must have misheard.
She leaned in slightly and almost kissed the tip of Wen Huaxi’s ear.
“If you ask again, I’ll take it back.” Wen Huaxi pulled her along and was too embarrassed to say anything more.
“Then can I ask for a hug tonight?” Yan Qinglan became bolder once they got into the car.
“Do whatever you want. I already said you could sleep in my bed. Why are you still asking me this?” Wen Huaxi grabbed her by the hair and gave her a playful push.
“I just didn’t want to make you upset. I had already picked a restaurant for us. I thought the audition would only take fifteen minutes and we could eat together afterward.”
Wen Huaxi opened the meal box in front of her, her heart warming again.
“You didn’t eat either? You really waited this whole time?”
She unwrapped the utensils and shared the meal with Yan Qinglan.
“No. I didn’t feel like eating, knowing you hadn’t eaten yet.”
Wen Huaxi looked at the slightly wronged expression on Yan Qinglan’s face and reached out to stroke her gently.
She realized then that maybe she was no longer angry.
All the pain and resentment from their past life no longer seemed worth holding on to.
What mattered now was the life they were building from this point on.
“Let’s go out for dinner after filming tomorrow.”
Without her realizing it, the one-month punishment she had insisted on no longer seemed necessary.
Out of pride, Wen Huaxi didn’t say anything more. But the blush on her ears revealed everything.
Yan Qinglan noticed how soft her tone was today and dared not press further. She was afraid one wrong word might make Wen Huaxi pull away.
That night, Yan Qinglan lay beside her, arms gently wrapped around her waist.
“Yan Qinglan,” Wen Huaxi shifted slightly.
She moved Yan Qinglan’s hand so it rested snugly against her and then pressed herself into her arms.
“If you’re going to hold me, do it properly.”
Just like how she always curled into her in her sleep, completely close and trusting.
Yan Qinglan held her tighter.
“Alright. Good night, my love.”
Wen Huaxi did not let go of her hand.
The next day, the dating show began filming at noon and would go on for four hours. They arrived a little early, and Wen Huaxi spotted Fu Chenyang. She walked over, planning to say hello.
Meanwhile, in the background…
Wen Qingxun: This family is falling apart without me.
Yan Qinglan: You’re overthinking it. You were just an accident.
