Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 75
Even though Wen Huaxi had already shortened Yan Qinglan’s punishment, seeing her looking so pitiful tonight made her heart soften even more. She decided not to hide anything this time.
As soon as she heard the news, Yan Qinglan sat up straight.
“What dating show?” she asked nervously, reaching for her phone in the drawer beside the bed to look it up.
She clearly remembered that after she confessed her feelings, she had already canceled the dating show she had planned to show Wen Huaxi.
Before she could check, Wen Huaxi grabbed her wrist with one hand and pressed her shoulder with the other, pushing her back onto the bed.
“It’s the one you showed me before. Don’t be nervous. I’m not going there to find someone new.”
She turned off the phone screen and leaned her head against Yan Qinglan’s chest.
“Xiaoxi,” Yan Qinglan’s voice sounded full of pleading. They had just promised not to leave each other. Wen Huaxi had just said she still liked her.
Was that a lie? Yan Qinglan’s eyes began to fill with tears again.
“I saw the participant list they sent. Fu Chenyang and her girlfriend are going. I just want to talk to them about something.”
Wen Huaxi finally hugged her tightly and gently rubbed her cheek against Yan Qinglan’s face.
“I’m not abandoning you.”
Yan Qinglan looked a little less worried.
“But couldn’t you meet them in a different way? Like we could have dinner together. That way I can be there too.”
“But this dating show is more like an escape room challenge. The theme is solving puzzles and completing missions. My first movie is coming out this fall, so I thought this would be a good follow-up project.”
Wen Huaxi thought for a moment about what Yan Qinglan had said. Since she was no longer angry, she figured it was time to take her feelings into account.
“Also, filming does not take too long. It’s only eight hours each weekend for five weekends total.”
“And the pay is good.” It was nearly as high as the fee Qin Shuyue had offered her for the film.
All of her reasons were hard to argue with.
But Yan Qinglan still did not look happy.
She rolled onto her side and pulled Wen Huaxi into her arms, breathing softly against her neck. For a moment, she said nothing.
Wen Huaxi gently stroked her hair. If Yan Qinglan really did not want her to go, then she could back out.
She had another script she liked that was about to begin casting. If she dropped the show, she would not have to take time off repeatedly either.
“Can I go on the show with you?” After a long pause, Yan Qinglan finally let out a breath and made her decision.
This variety show would give Wen Huaxi more exposure. If she went too, then at least she could keep an eye on things and stop anyone from getting too close.
They could also meet the two girls from the martial arts world and talk more seriously about the sacred artifacts.
“Are you sure?” Wen Huaxi asked in return. “It’s eight hours each week. Do you have time?”
“I do.” Yan Qinglan finally started to feel better. Her body relaxed.
“Now that I’ve regained my memories from the past life, I know which people in the company are disloyal, who spends their time slacking off, and who uses their position for personal gain. I’ve already started dealing with them. It won’t take long.”
Once she finished cleaning up the company and fully took control of the Yan family business, she could delegate her work. Her schedule would not be as packed as before.
“That sounds convenient.” Wen Huaxi did not know much about business, but she still reminded her to avoid scandals that even someone in the entertainment industry had heard about.
“And didn’t you also rely on connections from your past life to get that movie project?”
Yan Qinglan had thought it was the agency Wen Huaxi signed with that helped her land the role.
“It was mine from the start. The lead role fits someone my age, and only I could do it well.”
Wen Huaxi pinched Yan Qinglan’s waist playfully.
“I wouldn’t waste my time chasing after those loud, over-commercialized movies.”
“I know. You’ve always been amazing.” Yan Qinglan gently stroked her face. Her eyes were full of warmth, pride, and love. The look made Wen Huaxi’s neck feel warm.
She turned away slightly, trying to hide her face.
“So you knew which movies I acted in?”
“Of course. I watched all of them. I even booked private screenings sometimes.”
Yan Qinglan paused and added, “I occasionally brought my staff with me, just to boost your box office numbers.”
Wen Huaxi’s face flushed red.
“That wasn’t necessary. If they wanted to watch, they’d do it on their own.”
“Not everyone has time. But if I made it a group activity, it was different. You’re worth it, Xiaoxi.”
Yan Qinglan thought to herself that now she might go even further, maybe ask her staff to bring their families and friends along for repeat viewings.
Wen Huaxi stayed silent in her arms for a while before finally calming down.
“I didn’t know you watched them. You never told me. Did you already like me back then?”
“Looking back, I think I was more curious about you than anyone else. I cared more too. I guess I did like you.”
Yan Qinglan paused again. There was something else she wanted to say, but she held it back.
At the time, she had not realized her feelings. As for watching Wen Huaxi’s films, she never thought it was important enough to mention.
But now it was too late.
Wen Huaxi saw through the unsaid words, lifted her leg, and gave Yan Qinglan a soft kick. She then pulled the blanket between them and drew an invisible line.
“You. Stay on your side. Time to sleep.”
“Goodnight, my love.” Yan Qinglan sighed, a little disappointed, but closed her eyes.
Half an hour later, she felt warmth against her chest. When she opened her eyes, she saw the red-haired girl curled up in her arms, mumbling something that sounded like “Qing-jiejie” in her sleep.
Her long eyes looked soft and peaceful, like green leaves swaying in a summer breeze.
Yan Qinglan gently wrapped her arms around Wen Huaxi and pressed her lips to the tips of her warm, curled hair.
Now, she could finally say goodnight with peace in her heart.
The next morning, Wen Huaxi felt something heavy resting on her.
She shifted a little and turned her head, only to find Yan Qinglan’s face very close to hers.
“Yan Qinglan! Didn’t I tell you to stay on your side?” Wen Huaxi saw her eyelashes twitching and immediately pushed her arm away.
Yan Qinglan did not let go.
“You said I couldn’t cross the line. You didn’t say anything about you crossing it.”
She even leaned in and kissed the tip of Wen Huaxi’s ear.
“And Xiaoxi, you were the one who climbed into my arms.”
Wen Huaxi elbowed her stomach. Yan Qinglan let out a soft groan and pointed to the bed sheet where Wen Huaxi had drawn a line last night.
“You already know what your sleeping habits are like.”
Before she could finish, Wen Huaxi bit her arm.
“You’re blaming me now?”
“I’m not. When I hold you, you don’t move around as much.”
Yan Qinglan used just enough strength to escape from Wen Huaxi’s bite and then gently stroked her face.
“You’re always so sweet when you sleep.”
Wen Huaxi lost the will to argue after being petted like that. She gave a cold snort and pushed her away.
“Get up. You’re going to feed our baby today.”
“Alright.” It had been a few days since she last saw her daughter. Yesterday, she had been too focused on flirting with her wife and almost forgot about Wen Qingxun.
Left alone in the nursery all night, little Wen Qingxun felt deeply wronged.
She had sensed that Mommy was home.
Since she was already here, why didn’t she come see her?
It must mean there was no more love or bond between them anymore. The baby began crying in her heart.
After clinging to Wen Huaxi for so long that it started to annoy her, Yan Qinglan finally escaped into the nursery to avoid being thrown out again.
But Wen Qingxun was not happy to see her.
Instead, the baby gave her a disgusted look, stuck out her tongue, made faces, and fiercely resisted when Yan Qinglan tried to feed her with a bottle. She screamed loud enough to make sure the entire building knew she was upset.
Yan Qinglan pressed her fingers to her temples.
Wen Huaxi had taught Yan Qinglan how to speak baby talk.
But she had never mentioned what to do if the baby cried nonstop.
Yan Qinglan had a headache within the first minute. Just then, Wen Huaxi and Wen Suixue arrived, following the sound of the crying.
“There’s no one else in the house, right?” Wen Suixue had assumed Wen Huaxi was already in the nursery.
“There is,” Wen Huaxi replied through gritted teeth as she opened the door.
When the door opened and Wen Suixue saw Yan Qinglan inside, everything made sense. She had misunderstood.
Even though the lock wasn’t the most advanced model, it was not something just anyone could open. Other than Yan Qinglan, who else would Wen Huaxi allow into the house?
“What did you do to make her this upset?” Wen Huaxi marched up to Yan Qinglan, took Wen Qingxun from her arms, and started gently patting her to calm her down.
Wen Qingxun’s crying quieted a little, though she still stared at Yan Qinglan with visible annoyance.
“I didn’t do anything. The bottle is her favorite kind, the milk is at her usual temperature, I held her the same way I always do, and I washed my hands too.”
After listing all that, Yan Qinglan suddenly realized just how picky her daughter really was.
Wen Huaxi hadn’t been nearly as careful when feeding her, and after hearing everything Yan Qinglan said, she fell silent for a moment.
She glanced at Wen Qingxun.
The baby bit her bottle and looked up at her, pretending to be innocent, smiling sweetly with squinting eyes.
Wen Huaxi was hit hard by the cuteness and quickly looked away, turning her attention back to Yan Qinglan.
This was their only daughter. It did not matter if she was a little spoiled about these things.
Yan Qinglan gave her a helpless look, silently asking her to help.
“What did she do to make you so mad? Tell Mama, and I’ll help you get justice.”
The two mothers wordlessly agreed not to bring up the fact that they had raised a tiny troublemaker together.
Wen Qingxun understood the signal and immediately launched into a performance, carefully accusing Yan Qinglan of ignoring her and being neglectful.
Wen Suixue stood nearby in shock.
It was already amazing that her niece could understand what adults were saying.
Now she was realizing her sister could hold full conversations with a baby.
Two minutes later, Wen Qingxun finally finished her dramatic storytelling. She held her bottle proudly and began drinking the slightly cooled milk, trying to prove she was not a difficult child.
Wen Huaxi didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
“Mommy and Mama came home very late last night. We thought you were already asleep.”
At the time, neither of them remembered to greet Wen Qingxun.
Wen Qingxun pouted. She could have been awake. Bad Mommy.
“Next time, we will come see you first. Alright?” Wen Huaxi coaxed her by making a big promise.
Wen Qingxun looked toward Yan Qinglan.
It was clear to her that someone had been the one who ignored her first.
Yan Qinglan tried her best to hold in her temper, smiled softly, and gently promised Wen Qingxun, “Next time, I will come see you first.”
Finally satisfied, Wen Qingxun giggled twice, accepting the apology.
On the way to drop Wen Huaxi off at school, Yan Qinglan finally spoke up.
“Our daughter really has quite a temper.”
“Does she? I think she’s fine. Maybe she just doesn’t get mad at me.”
Wen Huaxi thought about it. To her, Wen Qingxun had always been sweet, gentle, and easy to care for. She never cried unnecessarily, was good at expressing herself, and always communicated her needs clearly. She was a very easy child to raise.
Yan Qinglan understood now. Their daughter had a double standard. She was the only one being mistreated. She had no real place in the household hierarchy.
After two days of staying at Wen Suixue’s place and constantly being a third wheel, Wen Suixue finally had enough. She grabbed Wen Huaxi’s belongings and started heading toward the door.
“Wait, no, wait,” Wen Huaxi said, clutching her bag tightly.
“Come on. You two already made up. I saw it with my own eyes. You’re sleeping together, acting lovey-dovey in the morning and night. How much longer are you planning to crash at my place?”
Wen Suixue pointed at her own eyes.
“As a proud single woman, I cannot bear the sight of overly affectionate couples.”
“I haven’t made up with her. I’m kicking her out tonight.”
Wen Huaxi had not fully decided if she wanted to go home with Yan Qinglan yet. Leaving like this would make it seem like she had no pride at all.
“Are you sure you’ll really kick her out, and she won’t just sneak into your room again with some new trick?”
Wen Suixue did not believe her sister at all.
Her little sister had always been soft-hearted. When she was younger, she once spent her entire weekly allowance on a stray cat she saw on the street.
Another time, she even used her lunch money and got grounded from spending for a whole week. Only then did she finally learn that helping others comes after taking care of yourself.
And now, she was dealing with someone she already liked as much as Yan Qinglan.
Wen Huaxi looked away, avoiding her sister’s suspicious gaze.
“I will try, really hard.”
Even her voice sounded unsure.
“Get out. Just go already,” Wen Suixue said, kicking her sister out the door.
Right at that moment, the elevator doors opened. Wen Huaxi stood at the entrance with her bag in hand, looking disheveled, only to see Yan Qinglan stepping out of the elevator.
She froze in place.
