Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 66
“Xiaoxi…” Yan Qinglan stood up, trying to stop her from leaving.
“I don’t remember ever signing divorce papers with you. I wouldn’t have done it. I never wanted to. There’s no way I would have agreed to a divorce.”
She reached out and held onto Wen Huaxi, pulling her into a hug. That was when she finally noticed Wen Huaxi was trembling.
“Xiaoxi, are you alright?”
Wen Huaxi leaned into the familiar cool scent on Yan Qinglan’s body, her mind going momentarily blank.
But in the next second, she snapped back to reality. The weight in her chest felt even heavier.
Quietly, she began prying Yan Qinglan’s arms away.
Yan Qinglan didn’t give up easily. Each time her grip was loosened, she pulled Wen Huaxi back into her arms. Eventually, she simply held her tight, refusing to let go.
“I just want some time alone.” Wen Huaxi couldn’t physically overpower Yan Qinglan.
And she didn’t even know what she wanted anymore. She wasn’t sure how Yan Qinglan was supposed to make up for everything.
Everything that had happened today was too sudden. She had always believed it was just her and the baby who had been reborn.
But now that she thought about it, this made more sense.
If Yan Qinglan had also come back from a previous life and remembered they had a child, then her behavior last year during the early stages of pregnancy was easier to understand. It made more sense than simply dreaming about a child and believing it was real.
“Don’t leave, Xiaoxi. Even if I didn’t do everything right in the past, I really love you now. Our child is here, we’ve spent a year together. I can’t bear the thought of you leaving.”
Yan Qinglan leaned close to her ear, her voice shaking. Tears gathered in her eyes as she tried to show her sincerity, hoping Wen Huaxi would change her mind.
“I just want to be by myself. Don’t cling to me like this. Yan Qinglan, if I had known you were reborn, I never would have confessed to you or agreed to date you. If you knew nothing, then maybe we could have started fresh. But you knew. You remembered what you did last time. You ignored me. You stayed out with other people. I waited at home for four years. Four years, and you didn’t care. Now that you’ve seen me die once, you suddenly say you love me. What kind of love is that? Is it even real, or are you just feeling guilty?”
At first, Wen Huaxi spoke with restraint. But as she continued, her voice grew louder, her anger sharper. She was close to pushing Yan Qinglan away completely.
“And as for the child. In the last life, you were the one who brought up divorce. You signed the papers. I had already prepared to raise her on my own. You don’t have to be involved.”
Her tone was cold, like a bitter winter wind.
Yan Qinglan was stunned.
Wen Huaxi took the chance to push her away, grabbed her bag, and headed for the door.
“Xiaoxi, I need to be involved. She’s our daughter. I really love you. This isn’t just guilt.”
Yan Qinglan clutched her head as a wave of pain hit her. Her vision started to blur. She tried to push through the dizziness. She couldn’t watch Wen Huaxi walk away again.
“I said I want to be alone. Why won’t you listen? Go find one of those other people you used to run around with.”
Wen Huaxi threw off Yan Qinglan’s hand and slammed the door behind her.
Yan Qinglan sat down alone in the living room. Tears slid silently down her face.
Three seconds later, her body gave out completely. She collapsed to the floor without a sound.
Not long after, Wen Suixue returned home from work. The first thing she saw was her little sister sitting on the couch, puffed up with anger, stuffing snacks into her mouth like she was taking it out on them.
“Did you get into a fight with that woman named Yan?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. This was rare.
Even though Wen Suixue didn’t like Yan Qinglan much, she had always known that Yan Qinglan treated Wen Huaxi like a treasure.
Wen Huaxi only had to say a word, and Yan Qinglan would do whatever it took to make her happy.
And it wasn’t like Wen Huaxi had a difficult personality. At most, she could be a little immature and overly romantic. So how did a fight even happen?
“It’s worse than that.” Wen Huaxi bit hard into a cookie. Yan Qinglan hadn’t even wanted to fight. She was the one who couldn’t let it go.
“Tell me what happened. If she really messed up, we’ll dump her and find someone better,” Wen Suixue said, half serious, half teasing.
Wen Huaxi paused mid-bite.
“It’s not like that,” she said. She wasn’t actually thinking about breaking up.
She swallowed the cookie and stared blankly at the TV.
She still loved Yan Qinglan.
If she didn’t, she wouldn’t be so upset. She wouldn’t care whether Yan Qinglan’s feelings were real or fake.
If she didn’t care, she wouldn’t be so hurt by the things that happened in their past life. She wouldn’t be this angry, this heartbroken.
Wen Suixue sighed quietly and rubbed her forehead. Her sister was clearly still in love.
She was angry enough to leave their home and come back to their family’s house, yet she still couldn’t let go of that woman.
Was Yan Qinglan really that great?
If she was so great, why was her sister sitting here, crying and angry?
Wen Suixue made a mental note to hold this against Yan Qinglan in the future. She wrapped an arm around Wen Huaxi’s shoulder.
“What exactly happened? You can talk to me.”
Seeing her sister hesitate, Wen Suixue gently patted her.
“No matter what, I’ll always have your back.”
“I know.” Wen Huaxi let out a long breath. “I just don’t know how to explain it.”
“Take your time. Want me to order something to eat?” Wen Suixue didn’t pressure her. She simply leaned against the couch and pulled up the food delivery app to browse with her sister.
Wen Huaxi ordered a pile of fried skewers and stir-fried noodles.
“Living it up tonight, aren’t you? Don’t you have a new project coming up?” Wen Suixue asked with a smirk. She didn’t stop her though. She added bubble tea and ice cream to the order too.
“I do. But one cheat meal won’t ruin anything. I can’t eat like this at home anyway.” Wen Huaxi scowled again. Yan Qinglan was always monitoring what she ate. The more she thought about it, the more annoyed she became.
“She really keeps a close eye on you,” Wen Suixue said, ready to join in on the complaints.
But Wen Huaxi turned her face away and didn’t respond.
Right. Just a regular couple’s fight.
Wen Suixue shook her head. She knew she’d better not get too involved, or her sister would turn around and defend Yan Qinglan later.
Once the food arrived and Wen Huaxi got a taste of her favorite unhealthy snacks, she finally began to relax.
“Jie, guess what. Yan Qinglan was reborn too.”
Almost a year had passed since Wen Huaxi had told her about her own rebirth.
Wen Suixue’s ability to handle wild news had improved. She wasn’t even shocked.
“So the whole family came back from the dead. If she died too, aren’t you curious how it happened?”
“No. It has nothing to do with me. Jie, what I’m trying to say is, she’s the one who ignored me for four years. She was out with other people all the time. She didn’t like me. And in the end, she divorced me. She was awful.”
Wen Huaxi tore into another piece of grilled meat, chewing with extra force, as if trying to get revenge with her teeth.
When Wen Suixue asked her, Wen Huaxi finally realized there were so many questions she wanted to ask Yan Qinglan.
But earlier that day, she had been too angry. She didn’t want to see her, so she left first.
What made it worse was that Yan Qinglan hadn’t even come to find her.
Wen Huaxi felt a wave of disappointment. Could it be that she was right? That Yan Qinglan’s love really wasn’t real?
“That sounds serious,” Wen Suixue said after hearing everything. She had to admit that Yan Qinglan’s behavior didn’t look good.
“It is. But… she’s been really good to me in this life,” Wen Huaxi mumbled. Even after venting so much earlier, she couldn’t deny how well Yan Qinglan had treated her this time. She couldn’t deny the way her heart had been moved. She still liked her.
But she was scared. Scared that Yan Qinglan would go back to how she used to be. Scared that she would once again fall too deep, and even if Yan Qinglan didn’t treat her well, she wouldn’t be able to leave.
“She hasn’t even come to find you. And that’s what you call treating you well?” Wen Suixue pressed, not willing to let it go.
Wen Huaxi fell silent.
“Don’t make excuses for her. Even if the two of you had a big fight, even if you walked out, she should still come after you. Isn’t it obvious something’s wrong if she doesn’t?”
“But…” Wen Huaxi stared blankly at her sister, suddenly unable to keep eating.
“Let me ask you something. What if she ends up the same as she was in your last life? What will you do then?”
Wen Huaxi blinked slowly, her lashes lowered. She didn’t know how to answer that question.
Wen Suixue shook her head. “I don’t want to see you hurt again. If she ever treats you badly again, promise me you’ll tell me.”
If that happened, Wen Suixue would take her sister away herself if she had to. She might even steal the baby too. That adorable little girl was too good to be left in Yan Qinglan’s hands. At most, they’d let her pay child support.
Just then, Wen Huaxi’s phone rang.
She glanced at the screen. It was a call from one of Yan Qinglan’s assistants.
A bad feeling rose in her chest as she answered.
“Miss Wen? Miss Wen, President Yan was taken to the hospital. You need to come quickly.”
Wen Huaxi’s breath caught in her throat. She pressed a hand to her chest.
“Where is she?”
Wen Huaxi left immediately.
Maybe this really was because of her rebirth. Because she hadn’t done things right. Because she had hurt her in their past life.
Yan Qinglan didn’t know how long she had been out.
Her eyes were dry and aching before she finally blinked again. The room slowly returned to focus, and she heard Wen Qingxun crying nearby.
Yan Qinglan felt irritated.
But there was no one else at home. She couldn’t just leave her daughter crying. She had to get up and take care of her.
“Don’t cry,” Yan Qinglan said quietly. She bit her lip, hesitated, then picked up her little sweetheart and gently patted her back.
Wen Qingxun hiccupped in her arms, the sobs fading into small whimpers.
“Why would she think I don’t love her?” Yan Qinglan sat on the sofa, holding her daughter.
With her mother, Yan Mingzhu, unconscious in the hospital, she had no one else to talk to. So she spoke to her daughter instead, as if to herself.
“Have I not been good enough to her all this time? Is that why she thinks I don’t love her?” Yan Qinglan looked troubled. Her eyes were dry now. There were no more tears left to fall.
She had already cried herself out. Her throat was sore. She didn’t even remember the moment she had completely lost control.
It was that overwhelming, manic episode that had scared Wen Qingxun into a fit of uncontrollable crying.
“And the divorce… I really don’t remember it…” Yan Qinglan held her head. The pain was coming back.
Something felt wrong. She carefully placed Wen Qingxun back in the cradle and pressed her hand to her temple.
Right before she fainted, she grabbed her phone and tried to dial a number.
But she didn’t have the strength to press the call button.
Yan Qinglan felt herself sinking into a deep, endless darkness.
A burning pain scorched her back. The intensity of it brought her mind back to the surface, and the blurry world around her finally began to clear.
She saw Wen Huaxi asking for a divorce. She saw herself hesitating, torn.
She saw how deep down, she didn’t actually want the divorce. She saw how she had responded by holding on to Wen Huaxi, again and again.
It turned out all those broken memories of affection had happened in the span of a single month.
They weren’t scattered over four years as she had thought.
She really hadn’t told Wen Huaxi that she loved her. And when Wen Huaxi first asked for a divorce, she didn’t say anything to stop her.
Wen Huaxi had prepared divorce papers.
But she had never actually signed them.
Every time Wen Huaxi brought them up and asked her to sign, she would pull Wen Huaxi close and try to distract her physically.
She had only been avoiding the truth. She didn’t know how to deal with her feelings. She didn’t understand that what she was feeling was love.
And just when she finally figured it out. When she realized she loved Wen Huaxi. When she wanted to tear up those divorce papers.
When she wanted to confess, when she wanted to ask Wen Huaxi to give her one more chance.
That was when Wen Huaxi had the car accident.
From beginning to end, Yan Qinglan had never signed those divorce papers.
