Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 67
When Yan Qinglan opened her eyes again, she stared blankly at the bright white light above her and stayed silent for a moment.
Her instincts told her to move back. She looked around cautiously, only to feel someone gripping her hand tightly, causing pain.
Turning her head, she saw Wen Huaxi. Yan Qinglan froze in shock, and tears began to fall from her eyes.
“You really know how to cause trouble,” Wen Huaxi said sharply before Yan Qinglan could speak.
“You actually ended up in the hospital. That’s quite something.”
Her voice was filled with frustration. She shook Yan Qinglan’s hand off and turned to sit back in her seat.
Yan Qinglan quickly got up, trying to stop her, her face still wet with tears.
“Why are you moving? Lie down!” Wen Huaxi scolded, pressing Yan Qinglan back onto the bed with force.
Yan Qinglan was a little confused. From Wen Huaxi’s tone, she sounded upset, as if she was about to cry herself.
But when she thought more carefully about what Wen Huaxi had said, it didn’t seem completely cold. In fact, there was concern in her words.
“Stay here and don’t come looking for me. I’m going to get the doctor.” Before Yan Qinglan could finish thinking it through, Wen Huaxi had already left the room.
She slammed the door behind her.
Yan Qinglan couldn’t take in what she had just heard. Cold sweat formed on her forehead. Even though she felt weak, she forced herself to get up and walk toward the door.
The first time Wen Huaxi left like this, she had not gone after her. This time, no matter what, she had to follow.
Just two minutes later, Wen Huaxi returned with the doctor and immediately saw Yan Qinglan leaning against the wall, trying to walk out one step at a time.
“Yan Qinglan!” Wen Huaxi was truly panicking now. She had just told her not to follow.
She had only just fainted. Why did she need to rush up like this?
She could have waited another minute or two. It wasn’t like she was going to disappear.
Wen Huaxi rushed over quickly and reached her side. “You really don’t listen, do you?”
Tears were still shining in Yan Qinglan’s eyes. When she saw Wen Huaxi reach out to help her, she collapsed into her arms.
“Huaxi, please don’t leave.”
“I told you I was going to get the doctor. Honestly.”
Even though she was still angry, looking at Yan Qinglan’s pale and weak face made Wen Huaxi’s heart ache. Her voice softened as she supported her back to the hospital bed.
The doctor took out the previous test results and began explaining to the two of them.
“Chronic fatigue? You’ve been staying up late without telling me?” Wen Huaxi found it hard to believe.
These past few months, she had been keeping a close watch over Yan Qinglan’s life.
Her sleep, meals, and routines had all become regular under Wen Huaxi’s care.
Other than being woken up occasionally by Wen Qingxun in the middle of the night, Yan Qinglan hadn’t stayed up late. How did she end up with chronic fatigue?
“No,” Yan Qinglan murmured, her lips pressed together. Her head was still aching faintly. This time when she fainted, it was as if all the memories from her four years of contract marriage with Wen Huaxi in her past life had come back at once.
Maybe her body couldn’t handle the sudden overload of memories, and that was what caused her to collapse.
“Huaxi, I really have been listening to you.” Yan Qinglan held Wen Huaxi’s hand tightly, trying to intertwine their fingers.
Her voice carried sadness, and her face looked delicate and fragile.
Wen Huaxi felt her heart tighten. She gave Yan Qinglan’s hand a slight squeeze.
“Stop pretending to be weak just to get sympathy.”
Yan Qinglan pouted but quickly stopped acting vulnerable.
The doctor, hesitating, asked again, “Could it be related to intimate matters? If there were too many marks, that could also affect the body’s health.”
She thought the couple seemed very close.
“No,” Yan Qinglan sighed as she thought about it.
Back when Wen Huaxi was pregnant with their little one, they had never taken that step.
Later, with all the time spent caring for the baby, the most they did was cuddle briefly before bed. They had never even marked each other.
“Perhaps Miss Yan was simply too exhausted. Even after a period of rest, the body might not have fully recovered. Fainting after emotional trauma is also a reasonable explanation.”
The doctor had asked so many questions that even she was confused. In the end, she gave herself a conclusion and nodded.
If the situation hadn’t been so sudden, the housekeepers wouldn’t have sent Yan Qinglan to the hospital. They would have contacted the family doctor directly.
Yan Qinglan silently criticized the young doctor’s lack of experience, then glanced at Wen Huaxi with a resentful look.
Wasn’t it emotional trauma? Her wife had almost left her.
Wen Huaxi gave her a cold smile in return.
Since Yan Qinglan’s health wasn’t a major concern, the two of them completed the discharge process and prepared to go home.
Before leaving, Yan Qinglan took Wen Huaxi upstairs with her to check on Yan Mingzhu, who was still unconscious. All her vital signs were normal. They could only wait for her to wake up.
“Huaxi, come home with me,” Yan Qinglan said as soon as they got in the car. She clung to Wen Huaxi tightly, unwilling to let go.
“Our little one has been crying nonstop. She needs you. I need you. Whatever happened, can we just talk it through? Please?”
Wen Huaxi pressed her fingers to her temples.
“Yan Qinglan, give me some space. I’m not going to forgive you that easily.”
Even though seeing Yan Qinglan looking so hurt made her heart ache, the pain she had suffered in their past life because of her was still too much.
Especially the divorce. She couldn’t just let that go.
“I know I did badly. I made a lot of mistakes. Huaxi, please give me a chance to make it up to you. I truly like you. I love you. It’s not just guilt. Can’t you feel that?” Seeing that Wen Huaxi hadn’t pushed her away, Yan Qinglan let out a small sigh of relief.
She adjusted her posture and pulled Wen Huaxi into her arms.
“I will do better from now on. Huaxi, I’m begging you.”
“Yan Qinglan.” Wen Huaxi placed her hand over Yan Qinglan’s mouth before she could say more. She was afraid that if she heard anything else, she might not be able to stay firm.
Yan Qinglan had hurt her for four years. That was her entire emotional past life.
If she gave in now, Wen Huaxi would lose all sense of pride.
And she was still very angry.
“If you want to make things right, that doesn’t mean we have to be together all the time. I don’t care what you say, I’m staying at my sister’s tonight. If you try to stop me, I’ll add to your sentence.”
Yan Qinglan stayed quiet. Her expression remained fragile, like a porcelain doll that could break at any moment under Wen Huaxi’s touch.
She leaned on Wen Huaxi’s shoulder and gently nuzzled her.
“Then let me just say this. I like you. I’ve always liked you. And the one I like has only ever been you.”
Wen Huaxi couldn’t stop the redness creeping up her ears.
“You broke the rules. That’s an extra charge against you.”
Yan Qinglan let out a soft laugh.
“I just genuinely like you. How is that breaking the rules?”
This time, Wen Huaxi couldn’t hold back anymore. She gave Yan Qinglan a gentle push to the side.
“You’re unbelievable. Sit over there. Don’t come any closer. If you try again, I won’t go home with you next week.”
Yan Qinglan finally settled down. The tension that had been gripping her all afternoon eased slightly.
No matter how angry Wen Huaxi was, she still wasn’t planning to truly leave her.
She had indeed made mistakes. It was only right to try harder to make things better.
“Then should I take you to your sister’s place?” Yan Qinglan asked, already calling Wen Sui Xue “sister” so naturally that it made Wen Huaxi click her tongue in disbelief.
“Or… would you like to come home with me and see the baby? Our little one really misses you.”
“That’s acceptable,” Wen Huaxi muttered with a pout, turning her head away from Yan Qinglan.
She missed her baby too. She had left in such a rush, she couldn’t help but wonder if their daughter had been scared.
Yan Qinglan realized she had found the perfect way to reach Wen Huaxi and silently gave their child an extra point in her heart.
“I also have something to ask you. After that, my sister will come pick me up. Don’t get any ideas.”
When they got home, Wen Huaxi walked toward the crib. Seeing Yan Qinglan about to tidy the room, she shot her a glare.
The housekeepers greeted them, then quietly left the space to them.
Their daughter, Qingxun, was awake. As soon as she saw her mother return, she made soft sounds, clearly excited.
“My sweet girl, were you scared? I’m sorry,” Wen Huaxi said gently, rocking her daughter in her arms.
The baby babbled in response, using her own little language to talk to her mother. Wen Huaxi finally began to smile.
A moment later, Yan Qinglan sat down next to her. Wen Huaxi glanced at her, then shifted to the side with the baby.
“I won’t touch you,” Yan Qinglan said quickly, raising both hands in surrender.
Wen Huaxi scoffed, then handed the baby over to Yan Qinglan.
Yan Qinglan took her daughter and immediately offered the snacks and fruit she had prepared to Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi didn’t say anything more about adding to her punishment.
“I want to ask you something,” she said after eating a few bites. “About your past life. How much do you remember? For example… your mother’s illness?”
“Not everything,” Yan Qinglan admitted. “At first, I didn’t even realize I had been reborn. It was only after I saw you that the memories started to return. Most of them are related to you. I think I remembered the full four years of our contract marriage today.”
She also remembered what had happened to Yan Mingzhu.
She had died from severe brain hemorrhaging. During the examination, a shadow was discovered that had never shown up before.
Now it made sense why Wen Huaxi had kept reminding them to have her brain examined.
Looking back, that shadow must have been a restriction left behind by Gu Lian.
“I see,” Wen Huaxi snorted.
So she remembered. That made it easier for Wen Huaxi to bring up everything Yan Qinglan had done.
“Let’s go over your crimes, Miss Yan. ‘After marriage, we each live our own lives.’ ‘I have plans tonight, dinner with a friend, so I won’t be home.’ ‘Spend New Year however you like.’ ‘Sorry, I forgot your birthday was last week.’”
With every line Wen Huaxi said, it felt like a needle piercing Yan Qinglan’s heart.
Eventually, the pain became too much. She raised her hand in surrender, clutching her chest as she struggled to breathe.
Wen Huaxi stopped speaking but lowered her head and took small sips of water, her expression unreadable.
“I was wrong,” Yan Qinglan said once she caught her breath, eager to apologize.
“That’s it? Just one sentence?”
“I promise I’ll never make the same mistakes again. I’ll treat you better.” Yan Qinglan didn’t know what else to say.
Even she could feel that words alone weren’t enough anymore.
“You sure know how to talk, but what’s the use of sweet words?” Wen Huaxi rolled her eyes.
“Four years, Yan Qinglan. I gave you my youth, even my life. And what did you give me? A divorce agreement, signed and handed over without hesitation. Even in this life, it started the same way. You said we’d live separately. You said once everything settled down, you would divorce me again. How do you expect me to forgive you? How can I ignore everything that happened?”
Hearing those words made Yan Qinglan’s heart ache. Not for herself, but for the pain Wen Huaxi had gone through in her past life.
She had stayed with someone who didn’t love her for four years. Even on her deathbed, she never received the answer she longed for.
“I’m sorry,” Yan Qinglan whispered. No matter how much she said, it seemed she couldn’t truly ease Wen Huaxi’s pain.
“But Huaxi, I really didn’t sign a divorce agreement with you. Please don’t get angry. Can you just let me explain?”
Yan Qinglan’s voice trembled slightly, tears welling up in her eyes.
“Fine,” Wen Huaxi said, slamming the water glass down on the coffee table. “I want to hear what kind of story you’re going to come up with now.”
