Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 65
“Ahem.” Yan Qinglan looked a little embarrassed. Thankfully, her baby was currently enjoying all the love and affection from the aunties around her and couldn’t hear what she had just said.
“Sister Qing, seriously,” Wen Huaxi muttered with a smile. She was thinking the exact same thing.
What was the point of having a child if not to play with her?
“Next time let’s keep our little secrets quiet. We can’t let little sweetheart hear us,” she said as she poked Yan Qinglan and whispered to her.
“Absolutely.” Who would have thought a baby so young could actually understand what they were saying?
Now they had to be cautious even when saying sweet nothings to each other, just in case they accidentally taught Wen Qingxun the wrong thing.
After thinking it through, Yan Qinglan could only conclude that it all came down to the thumb ring.
The ring must be enchanted. If it could bring them back to this exact point in time, then giving their baby some early intelligence wasn’t that strange after all.
On the first day Wen Huaxi returned to school, Yan Qinglan held Wen Qingxun in her arms as they sat in the car and watched Wen Huaxi leave.
Wen Qingxun looked utterly heartbroken. She didn’t cry or fuss, but the sorrow in her eyes was enough to tug at anyone’s heart.
“Your mommy will be back this afternoon,” Yan Qinglan said, patting her daughter gently on the back.
“Come to work with me,” she added. She had her own job to do too.
“I know what you want to ask,” Yan Qinglan said, noticing Wen Qingxun lying in her arms, staring up at the ceiling like a dried-up little fish that had lost the will to live.
“Your mommy is a public figure, and she’s still very young. Having a baby at her age will bring a lot of criticism. People might say mean things. You don’t want your mommy to be hurt like that, right?”
Wen Qingxun’s expression did shift a little.
If her mommy got hurt because of her, she would be very sad.
“But I’m different. I’m not hiding any marriage, and I’m at an age where no one questions me. I run the whole company. It’s fine if I take you to work.”
Yan Qinglan had explained everything as patiently as she could.
The only thing she didn’t consider was Wen Qingxun’s ability to fully understand all of it.
The baby cooed softly in confusion. When she saw that Yan Qinglan wasn’t planning to say more, she pouted and started thinking it through herself.
When they arrived at Yan Qinglan’s office, Wen Qingxun quickly forgot all about missing her mommy. She was completely absorbed in playing with Yan Qinglan’s staff, laughing and having the time of her life.
“President Yan, your daughter is absolutely adorable. I want a baby just like her.”
The secretary held her for a while and felt as energized as if she had just drunk three cups of coffee.
“She’s a clever little thing. I’ve got a feeling she’ll be a handful later on,” Yan Qinglan said, thinking of Wen Huaxi’s constant warnings and feeling a slight headache.
Then she pictured Wen Huaxi doting on the baby, and the way Yan Mingzhu and Wen Suixue were already talking about buying her a house and car and even looking at schools.
Her headache grew worse.
She might end up being the only one in the family who actually disciplines Wen Qingxun.
The responsibility of making sure their daughter didn’t grow up spoiled fell entirely on her shoulders.
Suddenly, she felt a lot of pressure.
“How could anyone dislike such a cute baby?” the secretary said with a smile as she gently placed Wen Qingxun back into the stroller.
“She’ll be a nuisance when she’s older. If she’s anything like her mommy, she’ll be a handful,” Yan Qinglan waved it off. “Alright, time for the work report.”
Wen Qingxun was already used to Yan Qinglan constantly complaining about her.
It didn’t matter anyway. Even if Sister Qing grumbled all the time, she still had a whole group of aunties who adored her.
She also had her mommy, grandma, big aunt, godmother… and two cat sisters too.
With so many people on her side, she was confident someone would always protect her.
That afternoon, Wen Huaxi finished her classes, said goodbye to her friends, and got into Yan Qinglan’s car.
At that moment, Yan Qinglan was stuck in a meeting and couldn’t come pick her up herself.
Wen Huaxi didn’t mind. She sat back, opened her phone, and watched the live camera feed of Wen Qingxun. She couldn’t help smiling.
Wen Qingxun, with nothing else to do, was left with one of Yan Qinglan’s quietest employees. The staff member didn’t interact much and wasn’t playing with her.
So Wen Qingxun sat alone, blowing little bubbles with her mouth. She looked completely bored.
“Little sweetheart,” Wen Huaxi said as she turned on the camera’s audio feature and spoke into the mic.
Wen Qingxun’s eyes instantly lit up.
She couldn’t sit up by herself yet, so she started fussing and making soft noises, hoping someone would help her sit up.
She had heard her mommy’s voice.
“Mommy will be there in ten minutes. Just wait a little longer.”
Seeing how much her daughter missed her, Wen Huaxi felt her heart melt. She even imitated her baby and made little kissing noises into the phone.
Wen Qingxun looked puzzled.
Mommy wasn’t here. So where was her voice coming from?
The staff member heard the sound and walked over to check. Once she confirmed it was just the camera Yan Qinglan had set up, she didn’t think much of it.
But when she looked into the baby’s big, tearful eyes, even this tall alpha, standing over six feet tall, nearly trembled.
Yan Qinglan’s instructions had been clear. She was only there to watch the baby, not to play with her.
She had to follow orders and resist the baby’s attempts to win her over with cuteness.
Wen Huaxi was right on time. Exactly ten minutes later, she burst into Yan Qinglan’s office, swept up her daughter, and covered her in kisses.
“Did you miss Mommy, sweetheart? Of course you did. My precious little girl, you don’t have to be apart from Mommy anymore today.”
At long last, Wen Qingxun let out a happy giggle.
After a while, when Yan Qinglan finished her meeting and returned to her office, she was surprised to see Wen Huaxi already there.
Wen Huaxi hadn’t sent her a message.
She hadn’t come to the meeting room to look for her either.
Now that they had a daughter, her place in the family seemed to have quietly faded away.
Yan Qinglan sighed and gave Wen Qingxun a helpless look as the baby rested in Wen Huaxi’s arms. Then she squeezed in beside Wen Huaxi.
“Sister Qing,” Wen Huaxi said softly as she handed the baby over and wrapped her arms tightly around her wife.
“You didn’t even come find me first,” Yan Qinglan murmured, her voice full of quiet grievance. After receiving a kiss from her partner, she buried her face into Wen Huaxi’s embrace and let her complaint out.
“Well, someone had to take care of our little sweetheart. I’m sorry. Next time, I’ll definitely message you,” Wen Huaxi said, gently nuzzling her hair.
As the two of them affectionately cuddled like no one else was around, Wen Qingxun, lying across Yan Qinglan’s lap, closed her eyes.
She was still too young to understand anything complicated.
But she did know that, once upon a time, her mommy and mama had not been this close.
Now that things were finally better, she had to do her best to help. She couldn’t let them start arguing again.
By early summer, Wen Huaxi had completed her final exams and successfully ended her contract with the entertainment agency.
Looking over her schedule, she saw a new film project in the works and a dating reality show she had agreed to last year.
Back then, when she had just come back from her past life, all she had wanted was to leave Yan Qinglan, get divorced, and find someone new.
She had never imagined that in this new life, Yan Qinglan would be different.
She had fallen in love with her. They had started dating. She had even given birth to their child.
Wen Huaxi picked up a pen and crossed the dating show off her calendar.
She had a wife and daughter now. There was no need for her to appear on a dating show.
Instead, she planned to use this time to look carefully for a good script.
Movies took a long time to produce, and she didn’t have any finished work to show yet. But it wouldn’t be hard to ask Qin Shuyue for a few good highlight reels.
Feeling content, she sat beside Wen Qingxun and started organizing her career plans. Meanwhile, Yan Qinglan returned after taking a phone call, her expression tense.
“What happened?” Wen Huaxi asked. It was rare to see her look this serious.
Yan Qinglan shook her head. “My mother fainted.”
“Is it because of that seal? Did Gu Lian make a move?” Wen Huaxi’s heart skipped a beat.
In their past life, this kind of situation had not occurred at this point in time.
Yan Qinglan let out a long sigh and sat beside Wen Huaxi, leaning into her. Her eyes showed uncertainty.
“I don’t know. But if no cause can be found, then it’s probably that.”
“I’m planning to return to the martial world.” She had been planning to go slowly and was already working on reconnecting contacts.
But things had taken a sudden turn.
“I’ll go with you,” Wen Huaxi said, holding her hand firmly.
Yan Qinglan’s brows furrowed even deeper. “Xiaoxi, I’ve told you before. I don’t want you putting yourself in danger.”
“Yan Qinglan, are you really asking me to stand by and watch you go off into danger alone?” Wen Huaxi’s voice was sharp with frustration.
“That’s not what I meant. Xiaoxi, I just…” Yan Qinglan’s voice trembled. She lowered her head. “I’m really scared.”
She fell silent, as if she were fighting something inside herself.
Wen Huaxi looked at her quietly, her heartbeat speeding up.
Finally, Yan Qinglan raised her head again. “Xiaoxi, there’s something I need to tell you.”
She pulled out a thumb ring from her bag, one that had been there for a long time.
“When Wen Qingxun was born, she was holding this in her hand. If I’m not mistaken, it’s one of the missing thumb rings from the jade set my mother gave you.”
Yan Qinglan spoke softly. She couldn’t bring herself to meet Wen Huaxi’s eyes. Because of that, she missed the surprise and recognition in Wen Huaxi’s expression.
“Xiaoxi, do you believe in rebirth?” Yan Qinglan asked.
Wen Huaxi’s gaze froze for a moment.
“I came back from the past. There are still things I can’t fully remember. But I think Wen Qingxun came back too. That’s how she ended up in your womb.”
“Xiaoxi, maybe you don’t know this, but in our previous life, you died in a car accident. You were very young. It was terrible. Afterward, the doctors told me you were pregnant. I…”
Yan Qinglan paused. Her voice broke. Wen Huaxi could see the tears in her eyes, but her own heart grew colder.
“I was in so much pain. The kind of pain that tears you apart from the inside. You were so young. We had a baby on the way. And just like that, everything was gone. I couldn’t take it. Xiaoxi, I can’t let you risk anything again. I can’t survive losing you a second time.”
Her voice shook as she wiped her tears. She turned, wanting to hold her partner again.
But before she could, Wen Huaxi pulled away from her.
“Xiaoxi…” Yan Qinglan’s heart pounded faster, the tightness in her chest nearly suffocating.
Wen Huaxi stood up and gently placed Wen Qingxun, who had been resting between them, into the cradle.
“Yan Qinglan.” Her voice was calm, but it carried weight. She hadn’t fully processed everything she had just heard.
But she did know one thing. The person in front of her, the one who kept saying she loved her, was the same person who had neglected her for four years and eventually handed her divorce papers.
“In that so-called past life of yours, did you love me?” Her voice trembled as her emotions began to fall apart.
Wen Huaxi’s eyes were cold. A sharpness flickered in them that Yan Qinglan had never seen before. It was as if her gaze could cut straight through flesh and bone.
“I did love you…” Yan Qinglan was confused. “Why wouldn’t I have?”
If she hadn’t loved her, why would she still feel that same pain when she remembered losing her? Why would it still hurt like something carved into her soul?
“Yan Qinglan. I wasn’t the only one who came back,” Wen Huaxi said, her voice calm but steady.
“You say you loved me. Then why did you divorce me in that life?”
That one question shattered every last bit of hope in Yan Qinglan’s heart.
“I died in that car crash on the way back from signing our divorce papers. Don’t tell me you remember my death but forgot that you divorced me.”
“Yan Qinglan, hearing you say all this, I don’t believe you truly loved me.”
Wen Huaxi: Looks like I am going on that dating show after all
Yan Qinglan: Please no…
