Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 49
“Is there something wrong with this person?” Yan Qinglan asked, noticing that Wen Huaxi had been staring at a particular name for quite some time.
Mu Chengcheng. She hadn’t heard much about him. According to the notes, he was a popular idol-type actor with little real talent, although every show he had starred in somehow became a hit.
“It’s nothing.” Wen Huaxi closed the file and let it go.
He was one of the people responsible for her being viciously attacked online in her past life.
Or at least, one of them.
Running into him this early in the game felt incredibly unlucky.
But that wasn’t a reason to give up such a good role.
If they tried to use her again for publicity, then she would not hold back this time.
In her last life, she had been too soft and failed to fight back right away. That would not happen again.
Yan Qinglan watched her closely for a moment. She couldn’t recall anything about Mu Chengcheng and decided to drop it for now.
Wen Huaxi still went through the formality of auditioning for the role. After passing, she happily shared the news with Lu Tong, and the two of them met up for a meal.
“How’s your mom doing lately?” Wen Huaxi asked gently.
“She’s stable for now, but she’ll need long-term treatment, which costs a lot. So I actually signed a performance-based contract with the production team for ‘Coming and Going’,” Lu Tong explained.
For some reason, whenever she was with Wen Huaxi, she felt unusually relaxed, as if they had already been close friends for a long time.
“It will go well. The production has a good team, a solid script, and the investors are willing to spend,” Wen Huaxi replied calmly, pointing out the advantages without overdoing the encouragement. “Though there are definitely some people using connections to get in.”
Like herself, for example.
But she couldn’t say that. Her “connection” didn’t replace merit. The role belonged to her based on ability. She only stepped in to make sure no one else would steal it unfairly.
“True. Mu Chengcheng is in the cast too. I don’t understand how he managed to stir up so much drama in the TV world and still decided to break into films,” Lu Tong said. She only dared say this to Wen Huaxi.
“You’re not the only one who wonders.” As for those investors who had harassed Lu Tong in the past, Wen Huaxi hadn’t yet thought of a way to deal with them.
There was no clear way to prevent that kind of situation. Who could predict if someone would suddenly take interest in them again?
Was it their fault for being talented and beautiful?
Just like that man whose name Wen Huaxi had already forgotten, the one Yan Qinglan had dealt with swiftly.
It made no sense to tell Lu Tong to stop attending events, stop making movies, or stop dining with the production team just because of people like that.
She was a victim. She shouldn’t have to live in fear.
“Have you signed with an agency?” Wen Huaxi asked. That was something she could at least try to help with.
“Not yet. But I’ve been in contact with a few companies.”
Lu Tong was a top student at a well-known media university. She was a year older than Wen Huaxi and had already received several offers. “What about you? You mentioned you signed with someone, right?”
“Yes, a short-term contract. But my agent barely manages me. She has too many clients, and I don’t even have any major work released yet. I’m planning to start my own studio and manage myself.”
Aside from Qin Shuyue, Wen Huaxi actually had contact with several powerful people. But it wasn’t the right time to use those connections.
To her, having an agent or a management company felt increasingly unnecessary.
Her current agent had never provided her with any real resources and spent more time probing into her schedule or hinting about helping her advance to higher-level roles.
It was nearly a direct suggestion.
Wen Huaxi never responded.
“You don’t need to join me now. I don’t have anything to offer yet. But once I’ve built something solid, I’ll come and steal you away.” Wen Huaxi gave Lu Tong a playful wink.
“Then help me take a look.” Lu Tong didn’t have anyone she truly trusted to help her with this. She couldn’t bring herself to worry her sick mother either.
“Of course.” That was exactly what Wen Huaxi had planned.
The agency that had betrayed Lu Tong in her past life, selling her out to powerful men, had offered her the best contract terms this time.
But they could not be trusted again.
“Huaxi, I think your girlfriend just arrived.”
Wen Huaxi turned her head. She was surprised. It was still early. She and Yan Qinglan had agreed on a later time. Why did she show up ahead of schedule again?
Just like that time at her sister’s company.
“I don’t think that’s…” Wen Huaxi started to make an excuse.
“Xixi.” Yan Qinglan had already walked over. She casually pulled out a chair and sat beside Wen Huaxi, wrapping an arm around her shoulders.
There was no denying the relationship at this point.
Who else would be this physically close, if not her partner? Lu Tong had seen this alpha being very attentive to Wen Huaxi before.
“Come on, no need to be shy with me. If you’ve got such a great girlfriend, why hide her?” Lu Tong teased with a grin.
Wen Huaxi’s face turned bright red.
They really weren’t…
“Thank you for the compliment,” Yan Qinglan said with zero shame, accepting the praise like it belonged to her. She leaned even closer to Wen Huaxi, almost pulling her fully into her arms.
Wen Huaxi had no words to defend herself. She lowered her head, trying to shrink into the smallest version of herself.
To Lu Tong, it just looked like Wen Huaxi was embarrassed but clearly acknowledged the relationship.
“Also, she’s not just my girlfriend.” Yan Qinglan gently pulled her flustered little wife into her arms and kissed her on the forehead in front of her friend.
“She’s my wife. We’re married.”
Wen Huaxi completely froze. Her mind went blank.
She wasn’t the only one in shock. Lu Tong hadn’t expected her friend to already be married.
Wen Huaxi had never mentioned it.
And she wasn’t wearing a ring.
“There’s a reason behind it. You could say it’s a private marriage,” Yan Qinglan added thoughtfully.
“Oh, I see…” That made more sense. Without a reason, how could someone younger than her already be tied down?
“Right, wife?” Yan Qinglan gave Wen Huaxi a gentle tug and poked her cheek.
Wen Huaxi couldn’t speak. All she wanted to do now was land a few punches on Yan Qinglan.
But if she tried to bite her or fight back, wouldn’t Lu Tong think they were just flirting?
Wen Huaxi was dying from embarrassment.
Silently, she reached out and pinched Yan Qinglan’s thigh hard under the table.
Yan Qinglan didn’t change her expression, but at least she finally stopped teasing her.
With Yan Qinglan around, Wen Huaxi couldn’t even finish her dinner properly.
Yan Qinglan paid the bill, said goodbye to Wen Huaxi’s friend, then gently brought her still-flustered little kitten into the car.
Once inside, Yan Qinglan silently began to count.
Three seconds later, Wen Huaxi snapped out of her daze. She grabbed the nearest cushion and started throwing it at Yan Qinglan. When that wasn’t enough, she started biting.
“Yan Qinglan! You went too far!” Wen Huaxi practically pounced on her, furious as she pinched and bit her without holding back.
“I was wrong.” Yan Qinglan admitted her mistake very quickly.
She gently rubbed Wen Huaxi’s hair, trying to calm her fiery little kitten.
“But Xixi, I wasn’t wrong. We really aren’t just dating. We’re already married.”
They had never officially dated. Their marriage was an agreement. Technically, there was nothing false about what she said.
Wen Huaxi didn’t let up. She kept biting.
“You haven’t even showered yet. Wait until we get home. You can bite me properly after I’m clean.”
In the end, Yan Qinglan reached for the back of her neck, pressing gently on her gland, making Wen Huaxi’s knees go weak. Only then did she finally carry her back to her seat.
“Yan Qinglan. I don’t even have a cleanliness obsession. Don’t force your weird habits onto me.”
All she did was bite her. She hadn’t even hit her. That was her being very restrained.
“And stop touching my gland without permission.”
“It won’t happen again. But Xixi, dirty is still dirty.”
Yan Qinglan held Wen Huaxi back just as she was about to launch another attack.
“If you keep this up, I’m going to kiss you.”
Sure enough, Wen Huaxi froze in place and backed away a little. She pouted and turned her head to look out the window, covering her face as soon as she saw Yan Qinglan glancing at her.
Yan Qinglan didn’t tease her any further. In any case, she had already made up her mind to find a way to kiss her again before the night was over.
“Sweetheart, you said she’s your close friend. That’s why I thought it was right to tell her.”
At least she was trying to be reasonable.
“Shut up! Don’t say another word.”
As long as Yan Qinglan kept quiet, Wen Huaxi could still pretend none of it had happened.
Yan Qinglan obediently stayed quiet for the entire drive.
By the time they arrived home, Wen Huaxi had mostly cooled down.
She had to admit that Yan Qinglan made a fair point.
Lu Tong was her close friend. In the future, she might not even get divorced from Yan Qinglan.
Given how Yan Qinglan was acting, if she really did like her, then maybe Wen Huaxi could consider reluctantly giving dating a try.
So it wasn’t a bad idea to let Lu Tong know in advance.
Still, Wen Huaxi was furious.
How dare Yan Qinglan kiss her forehead in public like that, and even call her “wife”?
She had always thought Yan Qinglan was the type who cared about saving face.
When Yan Qinglan tried to get close to her again, Wen Huaxi didn’t respond. She finished her meal and went straight to the study, closing the door behind her.
Yan Qinglan stood outside, feeling a bit helpless.
She didn’t think she had gone too far, honestly.
They had done more intimate things before. They had kissed. That time had almost gone out of control.
If she hadn’t had strong self-restraint and a suppressant on hand, it might have gone much further.
Was it really so different just because there was a friend watching?
Yan Qinglan wouldn’t admit she had been showing off a little.
Thirty minutes passed. Wen Huaxi had calmed down quite a bit.
Yan Qinglan finally knocked on the door and said she had brought her some fruit.
At that exact moment, Lu Tong sent Wen Huaxi a message, asking if she felt awkward earlier and whether Yan Qinglan had bullied her.
Wen Huaxi instantly began typing a long and detailed rant about Yan Qinglan, pouring all her complaints into her reply. She was so absorbed that she didn’t notice Yan Qinglan getting close.
Standing about a meter away, Yan Qinglan caught a glimpse of the text on her screen.
It was… intense.
She might have really pushed things too far.
“Xixi.” Yan Qinglan had learned her lesson. This time, she didn’t touch her. She simply spoke up to let her know she was there.
Wen Huaxi reacted like a student caught playing on her phone during class. She quickly hid the phone under her leg.
She turned and saw Yan Qinglan, falling silent for a moment.
Yan Qinglan pretended not to see anything. She gently took the phone and set it aside before handing over the fruit and starting to feed her piece by piece.
“That’s enough, Xixi. Put the phone away,” she said softly, then added, “Or we could use the projector instead.”
If they used the projector, everything she typed about Yan Qinglan would be visible on the big screen.
“No way. I won’t play with my phone anymore, alright? I’ll read the script, okay?” Wen Huaxi’s voice lost some of its confidence.
She wasn’t sure how much Yan Qinglan had seen of her overly dramatic rant.
If she had seen it all, she couldn’t possibly stay this calm, right?
Wen Huaxi tried not to overthink. Her posture and expression turned obedient and cautious.
Meanwhile, over at the hospital, Lu Tong read through Wen Huaxi’s fiery rant.
She took a moment to absorb the tone, then realized something.
This wasn’t a serious complaint.
These were the exact words of someone flirting and bickering with their partner.
Lu Tong told herself she had overreacted earlier. Next time, she wouldn’t interfere with a couple’s romantic nonsense again.
Once the fruit was gone, Yan Qinglan still didn’t leave.
Wen Huaxi started to feel restless. Her discomfort was written all over her face.
Yan Qinglan didn’t call her out. She quietly moved the fruit plate aside, calmly squeezed into the small space beside Wen Huaxi, and wrapped her in her arms.
“Xixi, are you really that angry?”
“You tell me!” Wen Huaxi snapped, clearly flustered now that her feelings had been exposed.
“I thought you weren’t that mad. But if you didn’t like what I did earlier, I won’t do it again,” Yan Qinglan said gently.
Just from Wen Huaxi’s reaction, it was clear she hadn’t been truly angry about what happened earlier. She was mostly embarrassed, overwhelmed by how flustered she had become.
“You didn’t have to avoid suspicion like that. It made it look like there was actually something going on between us,” Wen Huaxi mumbled, barely audible.
Yan Qinglan rested her head on Wen Huaxi’s shoulder, holding back a smile so she wouldn’t provoke her further.
“Be good, Xixi. You need to manage your emotions. Getting too upset isn’t good for you.”
“You’re the one who keeps pushing my buttons,” she muttered. Yet this person still had the nerve to tell her not to get angry.
“Alright, I was wrong. You can bite me,” Yan Qinglan said, admitting fault without hesitation. She fully intended to do it again next time.
With experience on her side, Yan Qinglan didn’t argue. She simply stretched out her arm. “I just showered. I’m clean.”
Wen Huaxi narrowed her eyes and glared, then leaned in and bit her without holding back.
Yan Qinglan responded by softly kissing her cheek.
She kept kissing that spot until it grew warm from the heat. Only then did Wen Huaxi finally let go, eyes misty with unshed tears.
“Stop kissing me. Is your skin hunger really that bad?”
“It is,” Yan Qinglan replied smoothly, not missing a beat.
“It’s so bad that if I don’t kiss you every day, I feel completely unsettled. I get so tense I start wanting to scratch or even use pain to relieve it.”
“So Xixi, you haven’t kissed me yet today. Will you help me out?” Yan Qinglan whispered the words right beside Wen Huaxi’s ear.
It was obviously teasing.
But Wen Huaxi’s thoughts immediately wandered somewhere else.
What if, in her past life, or even this one, when she saw Yan Qinglan hurting herself, it wasn’t depression or anxiety, but this? What if she had such a strong need for physical contact but was too much of a germaphobe to touch anyone?
Was that why she scratched herself?
It almost made sense.
Wen Huaxi turned and leaned over Yan Qinglan.
“Really? Truly? This is just me helping you, right? Helping you cope with your condition?”
It was absolutely not because she wanted to kiss Yan Qinglan.
“Of course. Xixi is just helping me,” Yan Qinglan said as she gently cupped Wen Huaxi’s head and guided her downward.
Wen Huaxi leaned in without hesitation.
She was the one who initiated it, but soon she found herself melting under Yan Qinglan’s touch, gradually responding to her kisses and matching her rhythm, lost in the moment.
They hadn’t done anything like this in quite a while.
Wen Huaxi’s thoughts began to drift. Her mind hazed as Yan Qinglan deepened the kiss, stealing her breath and filling her mouth with her warmth.
She had wanted this, hadn’t she?
But… they couldn’t. Not now.
Maybe after the baby was born.
Would Yan Qinglan still want to do these kinds of things with her?
After all, Yan Qinglan had once said desire didn’t require love.
So how could she convince her to stay, to do this not out of need, but because she wanted to?
The thought left Wen Huaxi completely flustered. Her cheeks flushed red, hot from the emotions she didn’t know how to name.
Why was she even thinking about sleeping with Yan Qinglan?
Just because she liked her?
In her mind, Wen Huaxi was arguing with herself, fists metaphorically flying in both directions.
Yan Qinglan, sensing her breathing had become uneven, thought she might be low on oxygen and gently released her.
Wen Huaxi was quick to take the opportunity. She stopped thinking, grabbed Yan Qinglan by the collar, and kissed her back with full force.
For one moment, she actually managed to overpower her.
But not for long.
Soon, Yan Qinglan took control again. She pinned Wen Huaxi down with firm movements and kissed her with a stronger intensity.
She had taken her suppressant in advance. This time, there would be no sudden interruptions due to her glands going out of control. This kiss would last the way it was meant to.
Every time Wen Huaxi tried to pull away, Yan Qinglan gently pressed her back into the kiss, refusing to let her go.
Finally, when she was given permission to stop, Wen Huaxi tried to stand but nearly collapsed the moment her feet touched the floor.
“I can’t… I can’t walk. Yan Qinglan, carry me,” she mumbled, clinging to the hem of her clothes.
