Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 50
Before Wen Huaxi could say anything, Yan Qinglan had already moved quickly to catch her.
Wen Huaxi leaned against Yan Qinglan to steady herself, intending to head to the bathroom while staying close to her.
But Yan Qinglan tightened her hold, lifted Wen Huaxi’s legs, and carried her up in her arms.
“Yan Qinglan, wait, not so suddenly!” Wen Huaxi was startled by the feeling of weightlessness. She panicked and instinctively wrapped her arms around Yan Qinglan’s neck, pressing herself tightly against her and refusing to let go.
Even though she kept telling herself to loosen her grip, her body held on tightly out of instinct.
“But Xixi said she wanted to be carried,” Yan Qinglan said with an innocent expression. “Where were you planning to go?”
“Just because I said it doesn’t mean you actually had to do it!” Wen Huaxi blushed with embarrassment at her own voice earlier. She glared down at Yan Qinglan from above, but those calm and focused eyes only made her more flustered.
“Of course. I always listen to you,” Yan Qinglan said as she stepped out of the study. “Should we go to the bathroom or the living room?”
Wen Huaxi had already buried her face in her chest and didn’t want to speak anymore.
“Anywhere is fine,” she mumbled. She didn’t want to go anywhere. She just wanted to disappear into thin air.
“Then let’s go to my bedroom. It’s about time anyway.”
“No. I haven’t brushed my teeth yet. Take me to my room.”
At Wen Huaxi’s insistence, Yan Qinglan brought her to her room and then stood by the door without leaving.
Wen Huaxi turned and poked her. “Why are you still here? I don’t need you anymore.”
It sounded exactly like what a heartless person would say after using someone.
“I’m just worried you might lose your balance and fall,” Yan Qinglan said while leaning against the doorframe. “Go ahead. I won’t follow you in.”
“That’s only because someone…” Wen Huaxi muttered under her breath as she slipped into the bathroom and shut the door.
Yan Qinglan could hear the faint sound of water running, but her thoughts were drifting.
It was only a kiss, yet Wen Huaxi had such a strong reaction.
They were nearly at the same point. Yan Qinglan touched the back of her neck, where her gland felt unusually active. The suppressant she had used earlier was already wearing off.
They had the same response. Maybe that meant Wen Huaxi truly liked her?
She took a long breath.
She remembered that one time she had tried to test the waters. She hadn’t even said much when Wen Huaxi’s body reacted strongly and interrupted her.
Wen Huaxi was smart. She had clearly understood her hint, but afterward told her not to say strange things.
Was it because she didn’t want to face her own feelings, or did she truly believe Yan Qinglan didn’t like her?
Yan Qinglan had more patience. Although her memories were incomplete and she couldn’t recall the full history with Wen Huaxi, she believed they must have had a close bond at some point.
And Wen Huaxi didn’t have any other alphas around her.
Wen Huaxi moved quickly. Though her long hair took time to wash, she still finished everything in about forty-five minutes.
When she came out of the bathroom, Yan Qinglan was still standing in the same spot, leaning against the doorframe.
“You didn’t think to come in and sit down?” Wen Huaxi finally felt both touched and a little guilty. She walked over quickly.
“I’ll remember next time,” Yan Qinglan said as she opened her arms, expecting the girl to come in for a hug.
Wen Huaxi came to an abrupt stop, stared at her arms, and let out a childish little huff.
“I’m not hugging you,” she said, glancing around as if trying to find a way to escape.
But Yan Qinglan didn’t let her go and pulled her into an embrace.
“Then I’ll hug you. Come on, let me dry your hair.”
Considering how long Wen Huaxi took to wash her hair, maybe they really did need to install a hair-washing station at home.
Every time after a shower, her skin was so soft and smooth that Yan Qinglan couldn’t help but run her fingers gently over her arm.
Wen Huaxi immediately grabbed her wrist. “I’m warning you, Yan Qinglan. Don’t get too comfortable. If you try anything else, I’ll stop kissing you tomorrow.”
She wasn’t about to admit that it actually felt nice.
“Then just tell me what you want me to do. I’ll listen. And if it really bothers you, I’ll take care of it myself like before,” Yan Qinglan said calmly.
She hadn’t used her knife in a while, but it would still work if she needed it.
“Are you threatening me now?” Wen Huaxi turned to glare at her.
The look lacked bite. She was like a kitten pretending to be a tiger.
“Yan Qinglan, I’m only doing this to help you. You’re the one with that skin-hunger thing, not me.”
“I know,” Yan Qinglan replied with a lowered gaze, playing the part of someone wounded. “I wasn’t trying to threaten you, Xixi. Just being honest. If you won’t let me kiss you, I understand. I have other ways to deal with it.”
She gently stroked Wen Huaxi’s hand. The scar from before hadn’t completely faded yet.
It worked instantly. Wen Huaxi felt something tug at her heart. Or maybe it was guilt. Or maybe she really had been manipulated.
“If you behave well, then I guess… I’ll let you kiss me,” Wen Huaxi said, her voice getting softer and softer.
She dropped the tough act completely, shrinking back into her usual gentle kitten-like self.
“I knew you cared about me,” Yan Qinglan said, finally satisfied. She guided Wen Huaxi to the chair and began drying her hair.
The sound of the hairdryer calmed everything down. Wen Huaxi sat there with her phone in hand, feeling dazed. The peace of this moment felt almost too good to be true.
Once the baby arrived, would Yan Qinglan still treat her this gently?
Wen Huaxi lowered her gaze.
She didn’t want to know the answer.
Her first movie wrapped up filming earlier than scheduled.
Qin Shuyue organized a celebratory dinner.
Over the past three months, during the filming process, she had formed close bonds with many cast members, especially Wen Huaxi.
They could be considered friends. This celebration dinner felt more like a gathering between close companions.
“So why are you here?” Wen Huaxi looked at the investor who had suddenly appeared beside her, completely at a loss for words.
“To keep Xiaoxi company,” Yan Qinglan answered casually, showing no sign of guilt at being caught.
“Who asked you to come?”
“Sister was worried about you. Gatherings like this often lead to unexpected situations.”
Yan Qinglan didn’t say much else. She only glanced subtly at Wen Huaxi’s belly.
The baby was almost four months along now, and it was starting to show.
Anyone familiar with Wen Huaxi could probably notice something was different if they looked long enough.
Lately, she had been wearing loose clothing on purpose, clearly paying attention to covering it up.
Even so, Yu Xiyun had already asked if she had been eating irregularly. The hidden message behind the question was that she might be gaining weight and should watch her figure.
Wen Huaxi had to admit that Yan Qinglan’s concern wasn’t unreasonable.
In her past life, she had also encountered people at dinner events who tried to get handsy.
The memory still made her feel sick.
Wen Huaxi frowned and bit her lip.
“Are you alright?” Yan Qinglan gently squeezed her hand.
Wen Huaxi paused for a moment, her face looking visibly uncomfortable.
Two to three months into pregnancy is when morning sickness is usually the worst.
Yan Qinglan had been very careful with her meals, making sure Wen Huaxi didn’t suffer too much from it.
But gatherings like this one, filled with rich, greasy, and spicy food, were hard to handle. Just the smell made Wen Huaxi nauseous.
After holding out for a few minutes, Wen Huaxi finally gave up.
She gave Yan Qinglan a look.
Yan Qinglan helped her leave early, stayed behind for another five minutes to explain the situation, then got into the car.
“Xiaoxi, if I hadn’t come tonight, were you planning to sit through the whole thing?” Yan Qinglan asked as she sat beside her, holding her hand.
Wen Huaxi had been about to lean into her, but turned her head away after hearing that and refused to look at her.
“Wen Huaxi,” Yan Qinglan lowered her voice for once.
The usual smile on her lips faded.
“What are you doing? Why are you scolding me…”
Wen Huaxi was startled by her serious tone. When she turned to see Yan Qinglan’s cold expression, she was nearly brought to tears.
“You are so mean. You promised you wouldn’t scold me.” Wen Huaxi could not hold back anymore and began sobbing.
Yan Qinglan pressed her fingers to her temple and said gently, “I’m sorry, Xiaoxi. I didn’t mean to.”
Seeing her soften, Wen Huaxi felt even more wronged. At first, she tried to stay quiet and bit her lip, but a few seconds later, she broke down completely and cried with her face in her hands.
“Xiaoxi, it’s my fault. I shouldn’t have raised my voice,” Yan Qinglan said softly. Her heart ached with guilt.
She leaned over and embraced the girl, who was overwhelmed with emotion.
“But Xiaoxi, I really want you to take better care of your body and your emotions. If you know a dinner like that will make you uncomfortable, then don’t go. If you go and it doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to leave. There’s no need to be afraid of those people.” Yan Qinglan gently rubbed her back.
“I wasn’t scared… I wasn’t. I’ve been through so much on my own over the years. I thought I could handle it.” Wen Huaxi was still choking back sobs.
But lying in Yan Qinglan’s familiar embrace and smelling her scent, she felt a little calmer.
She didn’t even know why her emotions had flared up so suddenly.
Maybe it was the pregnancy hormones. Her emotions really had become harder to control.
“But there’s no need to do that anymore. Why force yourself to do things that make you unhappy? And Xiaoxi, you’re not alone anymore.” Yan Qinglan held her tighter.
“I wasn’t alone before either. You had Wen Suixue, didn’t you?”
Wen Huaxi nodded quietly.
She had simply thought about her past life. After falling out with her sister, becoming a contractual wife with no real role in the family, and friends avoiding her because of public pressure.
Back then, she could only hold herself together and didn’t want anyone to see her weakness.
Yan Qinglan probably hadn’t been paying attention to the entertainment industry at the time, so she had no idea what Wen Huaxi had gone through.
Even when they occasionally met at home, Wen Huaxi always smiled in front of her.
At the time, she didn’t want Yan Qinglan to see how fragile she really was.
“You are not allowed to go to any more dinners like that. If you really must go, you have to bring me with you.”
Somehow, the more Yan Qinglan tried to comfort her, the more Wen Huaxi cried.
Yan Qinglan didn’t know how to console her anymore. All she could do was gently stroke Wen Huaxi’s hair and hold her closer.
This time, Yan Qinglan had fully accepted her vulnerability.
Wen Huaxi leaned against her, softly agreed, and clutched her clothes. It was hard to say whether she felt more upset or more relieved.
Just as Yan Qinglan was considering calming her with a kiss, Wen Huaxi suddenly looked up.
“Yan Qinglan, Yan Qinglan! The baby moved. I felt her move!”
They say you can feel movement as early as three months, but Wen Huaxi hadn’t noticed anything until now. Finally feeling it reassured her and made her incredibly excited.
Without hesitation, she grabbed Yan Qinglan’s hand and placed it on her belly. “Feel it too!”
Yan Qinglan felt her ears start to burn.
She was a little embarrassed, but of course she didn’t refuse this rare opportunity to feel such a moment.
Wen Huaxi waited quietly for a few seconds, then frowned. “There’s nothing now. Was I imagining it?”
At least she had stopped crying, and Yan Qinglan let out a breath of relief.
She gently rubbed her stomach and said, “At this stage, the baby’s movements are still light. Maybe she was trying to comfort you.”
Only then did Wen Huaxi realize her face was still covered with tears.
She smiled through them and placed her hand on top of Yan Qinglan’s. “Then she’s truly a good baby.”
Her sweet daughter. A precious child who had followed her across two lifetimes. In just six more months, they would finally meet.
“Let’s do a checkup tonight, young lady.” Yan Qinglan still hadn’t let go of her hand.
The summer heat was starting to fade, and the early autumn night felt cool.
She used her own way to bring warmth to her wife and their daughter.
The doctor entered their bedroom again with her assistant and medical equipment.
After the examination, the results were satisfactory. The doctor gave them a list of precautions and explained to Wen Huaxi what she might expect in the next three months.
Before leaving, she casually added that it was safe to be intimate now.
Wen Huaxi really wanted to explain that nothing had happened between them yet.
But her face and ears turned bright red, and the doctor simply took it as a shy and normal reaction.
After the doctor left, neither of them brought up the topic of intimacy again.
A short while later, Wen Huaxi felt better. She climbed into Yan Qinglan’s arms, wrapping herself around her.
“I’m so happy.” The expectant mother was still glowing with joy after feeling the baby’s first movement. She leaned in and gave Yan Qinglan a kiss.
“Then I’m happy too,” Yan Qinglan replied. Seeing Wen Huaxi so cheerful, like a child, she couldn’t help but smile herself.
“What do you think our baby’s personality will be like? And how will she look?”
Even though Wen Huaxi had seen the baby in a dream, she knew Yan Qinglan hadn’t. She asked her on purpose, secretly planning to tease her for guessing wrong.
“I think… maybe her personality will be like yours, and her looks will take after me,” Yan Qinglan answered thoughtfully, recalling the baby she had seen in her own dreams.
Although deep down, she actually hoped for a little one who looked like Wen Huaxi.
It didn’t matter. Maybe next time, she would carry the second child herself. That one could take after Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi blinked. Why did that sound so right?
But she couldn’t let that show. She immediately countered, “Then I say her personality will be like yours, and her looks like mine.”
“Either way is good.” Yan Qinglan didn’t argue.
It would be their beloved child, no matter what. That was all that mattered.
“Right. We haven’t picked a name yet. We can’t keep calling her ‘baby’ forever, can we?” After feeling the baby move for the first time, Wen Huaxi couldn’t hold back her excitement anymore.
The reality of having a daughter was becoming clearer and more real. She was eager to make her presence even more tangible.
She truly looked forward to meeting this child.
“Do you want me to name her?” Yan Qinglan was surprised. She had thought Wen Huaxi, who adored the baby so much, would want to name her herself.
“Yes. I’m not very good at naming. If I did it, I’d probably go with something like Zihan.”
Wen Huaxi picked one of the most common names out there.
“Then I’d better think about it,” Yan Qinglan replied with a faint sigh. “I’ll give you a few ideas in a couple of days.”
Wen Zihan wasn’t a bad name, just too ordinary.
You could shout it in a schoolyard and five kids might turn their heads at once.
The next day, Yan Qinglan drove Wen Huaxi to her university entrance exam.
On the way, Wen Huaxi reviewed her notes while Yan Qinglan flipped through a dictionary, seriously looking for names.
She even asked Yan Mingzhu, her mother, for help in naming the baby.
Her mother wasn’t great at naming either. In fact, Yan Qinglan’s own name had been chosen by a fortune-teller, based on the idea that her elements lacked water, so her name needed to include it.
But naming based on fate and elements would have to wait until the baby was born, when they could get her birth chart.
For now, Yan Qinglan could only continue struggling through the dictionary.
Yan Mingzhu kept messaging her.
“Why are you two picking a name so early? Isn’t my granddaughter only four months along?”
“She wants me to name her. Xiaoxi is really looking forward to this baby.” Yan Qinglan replied casually.
When they arrived at the university, Wen Huaxi jumped out of the car, and Yan Qinglan helped steady her.
“I’m not going to fall. Don’t be so nervous.” Wen Huaxi slipped out of Yan Qinglan’s arms with ease.
“If you didn’t keep scaring me, I wouldn’t be nervous at all,” Yan Qinglan sighed.
Her little girl was going to be a mother soon, and yet she was still like a playful child.
If her rebirth was truly the reason this child had returned to Wen Huaxi’s womb, before Wen Huaxi was ready for it, then Yan Qinglan felt she owed something in return.
“I know. Wish me luck on my exam, and you better come up with a good name, alright?” Wen Huaxi blew her a kiss. “I’m off now!”
Yan Qinglan should have returned to the car.
But as she watched Wen Huaxi disappear into the crowd after just a few steps, a wave of unshakable panic rose within her.
She ran after her. But she was unfamiliar with the layout of the university, and after circling a few times, she was completely lost. There was no sign of Wen Huaxi anywhere.
Yan Qinglan took a deep breath, but still couldn’t calm herself down.
She started wandering aimlessly through the campus, driven by instinct.
A few minutes later, she realized she had walked down this road before.
Not in this life, but in the last one.
In that past life, she had also searched for Wen Huaxi step by step like this.
She had wandered the campus, tracing any sign of Wen Huaxi.
It had happened after Wen Huaxi’s car accident.
She had desperately longed to see the girl who used to wait for her at home, even just one more time.
But no matter what she did, she couldn’t see her again.
So she walked the paths Wen Huaxi had walked. She did the things Wen Huaxi had done.
The memories slowly became clearer.
She had followed a group of college students into a performance class at this university.
During class, she sat in the last row, thinking of the past.
Wen Huaxi had once sat there. What would she have been doing?
She had once worked as an extra, blending into the crowd, trying to become someone else while clinging to the memories of the past.
Wen Huaxi had done the same, turning herself into someone else to play roles in beautiful stories.
How had she managed it?
Why couldn’t Yan Qinglan act like that, no matter how hard she tried?
In her memories, Yan Qinglan had once looked in the mirror, her face full of grief but somehow still smiling. The expression had disgusted her.
She had walked down this very road in the university district and collapsed by the roadside, vomiting everything out.
All her regret. All her late-coming love.
No one came to help.
Now, in this life, Yan Qinglan once again collapsed in the same spot.
She was breathing heavily, unable to deny one fact.
Perhaps in her last life, the one where so much had been forgotten, there were many things she had never truly remembered at all.
The relationship between her and Wen Huaxi was not as good as she had once believed.
Otherwise, where would this deep regret and self-destructive guilt come from?
If they had truly never loved each other, then what she owed Wen Huaxi was far too much.
But if there was no love, then why was there a child?
Yan Qinglan could not make sense of it. Her thoughts were in turmoil, dragging her into confusion and darkness.
Then a hand reached out and pulled her up. It was a hand she could never resist.
“What are you doing here?” Wen Huaxi grabbed Yan Qinglan and helped her to her feet.
Yan Qinglan looked at her in a daze, as if she could not believe what she was seeing. “Why are you here?”
How was it possible that she was seeing Wen Huaxi again?
Was this a hallucination, or was it some kind of blessing from above?
“I saw a post online. Someone said a beautiful alpha was collapsed near the river and even posted a photo. I thought it looked like you, so I came right away. Why are you out here instead of back in the car?”
Wen Huaxi pinched her cheek gently. “Wake up, Yan Qinglan. Did you not sleep well last night?”
It really was Wen Huaxi. Yan Qinglan could feel her warmth, real and familiar.
She reached out, held Wen Huaxi’s hand tightly, and embraced her with everything she had.
Wen Huaxi paused for a second. Even though she didn’t fully understand what was going on, she could sense something was not right with Yan Qinglan.
Without hesitation, she wrapped her arm around Yan Qinglan’s waist and led her to a quiet corner, away from prying eyes and cameras.
The entire time, Yan Qinglan stayed silently in Wen Huaxi’s arms, not saying a word, just resting there, feeling the warmth she had long missed.
“Xiaoxi, what about your exam?” When her mind finally cleared and she started to remember where she was and what had happened, there were still too many pieces missing. There was so much she wanted to say, but she did not know where to start.
So instead, she asked something ordinary.
“It hasn’t started yet. I was just worried about you. I was afraid someone might try to take advantage of you,” Wen Huaxi said softly, her tone shy but sincere.
She was clearly concerned about Yan Qinglan, though she didn’t know how to express it fully. So she said it this way, carefully revealing her worry.
Her tightly held hand and anxious eyes said everything that words could not.
“I’m okay,” Yan Qinglan replied, glancing at the time.
“Go take your exam. I’ll wait for you in the classroom next door.”
“I guess that’s fine. But are you really okay? Do you need to rest a little?” Wen Huaxi looked at her closely, still not at ease. Yan Qinglan’s face looked pale, and it worried her.
“I promise I’m fine.” Yan Qinglan gave her a reassuring smile.
She had spent so long searching for Wen Huaxi.
In her past life, no matter how much she regretted things, she could never find her again.
She searched and searched, until her mind could not take it anymore and everything faded away.
Even though her memories were not fully recovered, she was sure that in her past life, she had died young, heartbroken and alone.
“Xiaoxi, I’ve thought of a name for our baby.” Just before Wen Huaxi entered the exam hall, Yan Qinglan stopped her and held her hand.
Qingxun. The one she had searched for.
“Let’s name her Wen Qingxun. What do you think?”
