Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 48
Yan Qinglan ended up staying in Shuiqing City with Wen Huaxi for two full weeks.
During that time, she flew back to Beijing once to attend a meeting, but she returned to Shuiqing City that same afternoon.
She made sure her care for Wen Huaxi was thorough and unwavering.
Wen Huaxi slowly grew used to having Yan Qinglan around.
She adjusted her mindset well, pushing aside the more complicated thoughts and simply allowing herself to enjoy the days spent close to the person she liked.
When they returned to Beijing, Yan Mingzhu couldn’t wait even one night. That very evening, she showed up at the couple’s home.
The moment Wen Huaxi called her “Mom,” Yan Mingzhu beamed with joy and immediately pulled out a pile of gifts.
It truly was a pile. There was everything from baby supplies to health supplements for Wen Huaxi.
With her sharp eyes, Wen Huaxi even spotted something clearly meant for bedroom use, meant to spice things up.
She nearly choked on her tea.
Later that night, when Yan Mingzhu had finally left, Wen Huaxi turned to Yan Qinglan with a frown.
“I was supposed to have dinner with my sister tonight. Why did you come home so early?”
“I missed you,” Yan Qinglan said as she pulled her lovely wife into her arms. “Is that a good enough reason?”
“You’re breaking the rules,” Wen Huaxi mumbled, her usual stubbornness completely undone. Even the little strand of hair at the top of her head seemed to droop.
A direct, honest confession like that was her ultimate weakness.
Yan Qinglan knew just how to deliver it, perfectly on cue. And just like that, she had Wen Huaxi completely comforted.
“Xixi, didn’t you miss me?” Yan Qinglan lowered her head and gently brushed her lips against the tip of Wen Huaxi’s ear. “I heard you calling me ‘wife’ in your sleep.”
Wen Huaxi’s eyes widened slightly. She thought Yan Qinglan would, like always, ignore the awkward intimacy and pretend nothing had happened.
Just like every other time when they had kissed, felt the heat rise between them, ended up pressed together on the bed, yet never took it any further.
As expected, Lu Tong was set to play the second female lead. She would be acting alongside a seasoned actor and likely experience a short burst of popularity.
Then, just like before, she would urgently need money for her mother’s treatment but be blacklisted by a powerful industry figure, leaving her with no work at all.
The only difference this time was that her mother’s situation seemed to be happening a little earlier and didn’t seem quite as critical yet.
“I’ll show you the casting list tomorrow,” Yan Qinglan said as she gently tapped Wen Huaxi on the head, stopping her from overthinking.
The next day, while riding to the film set, Wen Huaxi took a quick look at the script.
Sure enough, she saw Lu Tong’s name among the confirmed cast.
That was good. Her friend had managed to find a role that would help her earn the money she needed. Wen Huaxi didn’t need to interfere this time.
“Do you want to take this role?” Yan Qinglan noticed Wen Huaxi seemed very focused on the information in her hands.
“Yes. It only takes about a month to film, which works out perfectly. And Qinglan, my friend is in this cast.”
She pointed to Lu Tong’s name. “She’s the one we met at the auction.”
“I’ll let the production team know.” Yan Qinglan had glanced at the name but didn’t remember what Lu Tong looked like. Still, if Wen Huaxi called her a friend, it was worth asking the team to keep an eye on her.
“It’s alright. I’ll go through the proper channels. With my acting skills, I don’t need you to open any doors for me,” Wen Huaxi said with full confidence.
It was just the third female lead. There was no way someone could actually out-compete her for that.
At this point in her life, no one in her age group could match her acting. The only ones who were better were veteran actors, and they were auditioning for lead roles, not supporting ones. There was no direct conflict.
Yan Qinglan reached over and smoothed her hair. “In terms of talent, our Xixi is the best. But there will always be people who don’t play fair. They will use every connection they have to fight for roles. Especially this one. It’s eye-catching, and it doesn’t require strong acting skills. The investors seem to have someone in mind already.”
“Alright, then I’ll leave it to you.” Wen Huaxi nodded. If everyone was relying on connections, then hers was stronger.
She was not about to lose a role that should belong to her, just because she was too proud to ask her own wife for help.
“It’s nothing. But Xixi, your schedule is getting tight. Don’t you want to take a break?”
Right after finishing the project with Qin Shuyue, Wen Huaxi would have to start filming this new drama.
“It’s fine. Acting doesn’t wear me out. And like you said, this role isn’t too demanding.”
Wen Huaxi blinked, then returned to reading through the information Yan Qinglan had handed her.
As she scanned the list, her eyes suddenly froze on a name. Her brow furrowed.
She had not expected to see that name at all.
