Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 45
“What do you mean?” Wen Huaxi immediately sensed something off in Yan Qinglan’s tone.
There was a trace of reluctance in her voice, as if she was about to reject her.
“It means, if Xiaoxi wants that kind of physical ‘care,’ I can cooperate,” Yan Qinglan said calmly, smoothing down the little tuft of hair on Wen Huaxi’s head that looked ready to spring up again.
“Don’t overthink it.” After a brief pause, she added, “I have skin hunger. So if Xiaoxi has similar needs, I’m more than happy to help.”
She had come up with that excuse just moments ago.
Whenever she treated Wen Huaxi a little better, Wen Huaxi would start thinking she was unstable.
If she acted too affectionate, Wen Huaxi would question her motives.
So instead of letting her guess, Yan Qinglan decided to give her a reason. A reason that explained her recent behavior, something Wen Huaxi could accept without further suspicion. Something to help them both get through these next few months peacefully.
Coincidentally, Yan Qinglan had looked up this so-called skin hunger a few days earlier.
To her surprise, the description fit her perfectly. Every time she saw Wen Huaxi, she wanted to be close to her. Even just holding her hand brought her an unusual sense of satisfaction.
But she only felt that way toward Wen Huaxi.
That probably was not skin hunger at all. It was more likely just love.
She liked Wen Huaxi. That was why she wanted to touch her, to kiss her, to be near her every moment of the day.
Wen Huaxi visibly calmed down. Her almond eyes blinked in confusion, then came the sudden realization. Right after that, her temper flared again.
She knew it. This woman definitely had an ulterior motive for getting close to her.
Yan Qinglan saw the hair she had just smoothed down puff back up and was now completely confused.
“Yan Qinglan. You have skin hunger, and you had to come to me for that?” Wen Huaxi crossed her arms and leaned against the bedframe, pulling away from her.
“What about your lovely group of ‘little sisters’? Don’t you have a whole tank full of fish? Why not go to them?”
She had never heard anything about this so-called disorder in their past life.
And even in this life, Yan Qinglan had never shown any signs of it at the beginning.
She acted like she had a cleanliness obsession. The idea that she craved physical contact was absurd.
That made it clear to Wen Huaxi. Yan Qinglan had just made up an excuse.
And if she didn’t argue back, she would feel completely unsettled.
Yan Qinglan now realized that Wen Huaxi’s emotional ups and downs were not always her fault.
Clearly, they needed to have a proper conversation about these so-called “fish.”
“Hey, don’t leave.” Seeing that Yan Qinglan actually looked hurt, Wen Huaxi’s bravado deflated. She stood up and reached out to stop her.
“I’m just changing clothes.” Yan Qinglan pressed her fingers to her temples. “We’ll talk about it more after I come back.”
“Oh.” So she wasn’t actually leaving. Wen Huaxi’s irritation returned immediately.
When Yan Qinglan came out of the bathroom dressed in fresh clothes, she saw her little kitten had turned into a pufferfish, puffed up like a balloon, spiky with irritation.
She looked so cute, it made Yan Qinglan want to tease her just to see how much angrier those little spikes could get.
After the baby was born, she definitely would…
Yan Qinglan sat down beside her, casually pulled her into her arms, and the two of them lay down together.
“What are you doing? Don’t you have plenty of other girls you could cuddle with?”
Wen Huaxi sounded annoyed, but her push was weak. In fact, she was already halfway leaning into Yan Qinglan’s chest.
“I’ve never cuddled anyone else. And I’ve never wanted to.” Yan Qinglan felt secretly pleased by her response, though she kept her expression calm.
“I’ve only ever held you. Kissed you.” She leaned in and pressed a light kiss to Wen Huaxi’s forehead.
“And Xiaoxi, we’re legally married. Why are you still trying to push me toward someone else?”
“I’m not pushing you. Yan Qinglan, who said we’re supposed to live separate lives after marriage and go find fun outside? Was it me?”
Wen Huaxi instinctively shot back at her, but then realized something was off. So she kept going, jabbing straight at Yan Qinglan’s sore spot.
“I admit I was wrong.” Yan Qinglan lifted her arm and offered it to her.
“Yan Qinglan, don’t tell me your so-called skin hunger includes wanting to be bitten by me.” Wen Huaxi narrowed her eyes. That had to be some kind of weird fetish. Gross.
“It does.” Yan Qinglan answered calmly and even moved her hand closer to Wen Huaxi’s mouth.
“That’s disgusting. You know it’ll get all wet, right? I just took my medicine.” Wen Huaxi gave her a doubtful look.
“If it’s from you, I don’t mind.” Yan Qinglan glanced at the tissues she had left on the nightstand.
She would just wipe it off afterward. That was perfectly manageable.
Wen Huaxi gave in and sank her teeth into her arm with a satisfied little growl.
While she was still happily biting, Yan Qinglan pulled out her phone and opened her contacts.
“I’m deleting all of them. Right in front of you. So don’t say I’m pushing you away anymore.”
Yan Qinglan spoke slowly, but her actions were swift. One by one, she tapped and deleted, smooth and efficient with no hesitation at all.
There wasn’t even a hint of reluctance in her expression.
Wen Huaxi let go immediately and leaned over to look at her phone. She began counting on her fingers.
“Triple digits. Yan Qinglan, you really are something.”
Most of the contacts had no notes or names, but they were neatly grouped under a category labeled “Pond.”
“A lot of them aren’t what you think. Probably just annoying business contacts or one-time collaborations. I kept them here for convenience, so I could block them all at once.” Yan Qinglan explained herself quickly.
She hadn’t realized how many there were until she opened it just now. It surprised her too.
She couldn’t even remember where all those so-called ‘fish’ came from.
“What about this one? The note says ‘bar’.” Wen Huaxi pointed to a contact Yan Qinglan was about to delete. The message history was completely empty, like a blank sheet of paper. Oddly enough, she felt a bit disappointed.
“I don’t remember.” Yan Qinglan was just about to dig into her memory to explain, but stopped herself in time. She realized anything she said next would definitely make Wen Huaxi angry.
That only made Wen Huaxi more disappointed. She had been planning to mock Yan Qinglan thoroughly.
Who would have thought Yan Qinglan’s so-called ‘fish’ were mostly just names in her contact list? At most, she had shared a meal or a drink with them. That was it. Not even a proper flirtation.
It wasn’t fish-keeping. It was more like casually networking. Just with a hint of ambiguity.
How could she stay angry after that?
That was why Wen Huaxi remained a little sulky, though fortunately, Yan Qinglan kept soothing her with gentle gestures.
It had already been more than ten minutes of deleting contacts. Wen Huaxi was getting drowsy and curled up in Yan Qinglan’s arms, her eyelids growing heavier.
“Go ahead and sleep, Xiaoxi. I’ll finish deleting them all and let you check when you wake up.” Yan Qinglan gently checked the state of her hair.
She didn’t seem upset anymore. She looked calm, and that was enough to put Yan Qinglan at ease.
“No, I want to see you finish.” Wen Huaxi suddenly became stubborn.
It was a rare occasion. Yan Qinglan was actually cleaning out her entire “fish pond.”
If she didn’t watch the whole process, her gossip-loving heart would never be satisfied.
Yan Qinglan sped up her pace.
Finally, there were only two contacts left: Leng Yueshan and Meng Qingzhou.
Wen Huaxi glanced at the message history with Leng Yueshan and immediately connected her to that pale-skinned girl who often video-called Yan Qinglan.
“You really haven’t contacted them in a long time,” Wen Huaxi said, holding Yan Qinglan’s hand as she scrolled through the chat history herself.
It was nothing but food invites, drinks, gaming, and the occasional video call. So clean, it was almost boring.
“When has your sister ever lied to you?” Yan Qinglan didn’t hesitate and deleted Leng Yueshan on the spot.
To be fair, Leng Yueshan was a good friend. She was thoughtful and considerate.
There was a tiny moment of reluctance. But in the end, she deleted her for the person she liked.
“So this skin hunger thing is real?” Wen Huaxi opened the chat with Meng Qingzhou next.
It was just as clean as the last one.
Yan Qinglan really was quite the fake player.
“It is.” Yan Qinglan answered without blinking.
“But you’re a neat freak. You used to think I was dirty. You even hated my tears and hair. And now you’re saying you crave physical contact with people?”
Wen Huaxi thought for a moment, then decided not to delete Meng Qingzhou.
She quietly turned off the phone and tossed it on the nightstand, then rolled on top of Yan Qinglan and questioned her.
“Isn’t that contradictory?”
Yan Qinglan didn’t bother asking why Wen Huaxi spared Meng Qingzhou. After all, nothing would ever happen between them.
Meng Qingzhou was different from Leng Yueshan. She didn’t actually like Yan Qinglan. Her motives were clearly different.
Keeping her around might even help them find out more about that person who came from the village looking for something.
“Besides, I was only diagnosed recently,” Yan Qinglan said, nearly spelling out that her symptoms only ever appeared around Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi went quiet for a moment, then gave up trying to think, letting Yan Qinglan gently stroke her hair into peace.
Lately, she had decided to stop overthinking everything. If Yan Qinglan said something, she would just accept it and live comfortably.
If she felt unhappy, she could always take it out on Yan Qinglan.
After all, the baby was hers too. Wen Huaxi had every reason to act this way. With that in mind, she bit Yan Qinglan’s arm again and drifted off to sleep, finally at ease.
Yan Qinglan had finally coaxed her feisty, high-maintenance girl into slumber.
She adjusted her posture to hold Wen Huaxi more securely.
Wrapped in warmth and softness, she slowly fell asleep as well.
When she opened her eyes again, it was already noon. The girl in her arms was still sleeping soundly. Yan Qinglan moved carefully, trying not to wake her, and got up to handle some work calls.
She was surprised to see several missed calls, all from Yan Mingzhu.
Yan Qinglan walked into the bathroom, locked the door, and lowered her voice.
“Mom? I’m out of town on a business trip.”
“Oh. I just heard you’ve been seeing doctors a few times lately?” Yan Mingzhu sounded concerned.
“It’s nothing. It’s not for me.”
“Then it’s Huaxi, isn’t it? Is she sick?” Her tone became more anxious.
Was Yan Mingzhu really her mom?
With that kind of reaction, it was no wonder Wen Huaxi got along so well with her.
“No, Mom. It’s actually something good.”
The moment she said that, Yan Mingzhu immediately caught on.
“Huaxi is so young. Yan Qinglan, are you being a little too much?” Although she was her mother, she really didn’t want to describe her daughter with such words.
But when she thought about how young Wen Huaxi was, and how her daughter usually acted so composed and self-controlled, she just couldn’t wrap her head around it.
“Mom, are you really my mother?” Yan Qinglan could not help but complain.
“Of course I am. I gave birth to you myself. Who else could be your real mother?” She almost blurted out the rest, but swallowed the words.
That incident was the biggest regret of her life. It had affected Yan Qinglan more than anyone could imagine. Even now, the damage had not fully healed. It was her fault for failing her daughter.
“But Huaxi is only twenty. She lost both her parents and only has a sister. Just because she doesn’t have elders watching over her doesn’t mean you can take advantage of that.” Yan Mingzhu’s tone was both firm and pleading.
Still, since the baby was already on the way, there was not much she could say anymore.
Who was taking advantage of whom here?
Yan Qinglan, who had just spent the entire morning being scolded and bitten by Wen Huaxi, was beginning to feel emotionally drained.
“It’s a bit complicated, Mom. It’s not what you think.”
“What’s so complicated? You just didn’t use protection, right? Or are you going to say she forced you to mark her and get her pregnant?”
If Yan Mingzhu had been there in person, she probably would have smacked her with a cane.
Yan Qinglan could never tell anyone about her rebirth. She felt extremely frustrated but also knew there was no explanation that would make sense.
She certainly couldn’t tell her mother that she and Wen Huaxi hadn’t even done anything yet.
If she said that, Yan Mingzhu would probably think they were in a fake marriage.
“Mom, I’m fine. Please don’t worry.” Just then, the bathroom door opened, and a hand reached in and snatched her phone.
