Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 46
The room suddenly fell silent.
It took a while before Yan Mingzhu let out a few startled “Oh”s, as if she was still trying to process what had just happened.
“Xixi, you’re together with Sister Lan?” she asked, sounding a little awkward.
That meant everything she had just said about her daughter had been heard by both her daughter and her daughter-in-law.
“Yes, Mom. Sister Lan is with me while I’m filming. Please don’t worry. I know this might seem sudden, but the baby is something we discussed and decided to keep together,” Wen Huaxi replied with a calm and steady voice.
But inside the bathroom, Yan Qinglan was holding her by the waist while Wen Huaxi glared at her, clearly annoyed. Her expression said she was just one step away from stabbing her.
“Filming, yes, that’s good. If you’ve both made the decision, then it’s fine. Xixi, make sure you take care of yourself. If Sister Lan upsets you in any way, feel free to give her a hard time,” Yan Mingzhu said. As a mother, she didn’t hesitate for a second to throw her daughter under the bus.
Wen Huaxi forced herself to laugh out loud, but to Yan Qinglan, the laugh felt distant and cold.
“We’re fine, Mom, really. Don’t worry about us. I’ll come visit once I finish filming.” Wen Huaxi handed the phone back to Yan Qinglan.
She then brushed off Yan Qinglan’s hand and walked confidently out of the bathroom.
“You really are something. Look how sweet little Huaxi is. How could you treat her like that? Never mind, I won’t lecture you. Just remember to come home to the old house. Huaxi already promised me she would,” Yan Mingzhu said with a disappointed tone, clearly frustrated with her daughter.
“Mom, why don’t you come to our place instead? The old house is too crowded and chaotic. I’m worried something might happen to Huaxi,” Yan Qinglan replied, unwilling to bring up her mother’s double standards again.
Honestly, she found Wen Huaxi much more adorable. And if her mom treated her better, she had no complaints.
After all, as her mother said, Wen Huaxi grew up without parents, raised by her older sister.
“Fine. At least you know how to take care of your wife.”
“When have I ever not taken care of her?” Yan Qinglan took the rare opportunity to talk back. She couldn’t let the moment pass without throwing in a few snarky lines.
“Last time you two visited, you even fought her over food.”
“She took mine first.”
Yan Qinglan remembered clearly. Back before her memories of this life returned, it was during that visit to the old house that Wen Huaxi broke through her disguise. She even said she looked better without it. That was when she started paying more attention to her.
At the time, it annoyed her. But now, looking back, she found Wen Huaxi incredibly endearing.
Only Wen Huaxi would dare to point out her disguise and still praise her once it was gone.
“She’s just a young girl. And she’s pregnant now. She’s your wife. Can’t you give her a little more? How old are you, still fighting your wife over food?” Yan Mingzhu genuinely sounded like she wanted to hit Yan Qinglan with a cane.
But she wasn’t pregnant back then. Yan Qinglan’s mood soured again.
After going back and forth with her mother a few more rounds, Yan Qinglan finally ended the conversation by saying if she didn’t go comfort Wen Huaxi soon, her little kitten might kick her out of the house.
After hanging up, Yan Qinglan was surprised by how well her mother understood relationships.
She used to think her mom had never even been in love. Apparently, she had a story or two in her youth.
“Xixi, did I wake you up?” Yan Qinglan came over and gently patted Wen Huaxi’s head, wrapping her arms around her waist.
“You beast.” Wen Huaxi wasn’t really mad. She stuck out her tongue at Yan Qinglan, then curled into her arms like it was the most natural thing in the world. “I’m hungry.”
Yan Qinglan completely lost her temper at that.
Especially when the girl actively leaned into her embrace, all her frustration vanished.
“I’ll call someone to bring food right away. Are you feeling better?”
“Yes, the pain stopped after I took the medicine.” Wen Huaxi shifted a little. It felt uncomfortable being held sideways like that, as if Yan Qinglan might drop her. So she turned around and pressed her front against Yan Qinglan’s body.
“When are we going to visit our mom?”
“Do you want to go after we finish filming in Shuiqing City, or wait until you’re completely done with the whole project? I can invite our mom to visit us here,” Yan Qinglan replied. She had started copying Wen Huaxi’s way of saying “our mom,” like they were truly married.
“Let’s do it after we finish filming here. This is a big deal after all. She’s going to be a grandmother. We probably should have told her sooner.”
Wen Huaxi had simply forgotten. Yan Qinglan, on the other hand, likely didn’t want to bring it up earlier in case the child wasn’t hers. That would’ve just led to false hope.
“Why should Mom come all the way here?” Wen Huaxi poked Yan Qinglan, her face filled with confusion.
It was as if Yan Qinglan didn’t even treat her own mother with basic consideration.
“The old house is too complicated. I’m worried I won’t be able to protect you and the baby there. But in our home, I can promise absolute safety,” Yan Qinglan replied seriously. Her reasoning was enough to make Wen Huaxi drop the argument.
Her expression softened.
Still, Yan Qinglan was curious. “Xixi, why are you so good to our mom? Do you really like her that much?”
Wen Huaxi rolled her eyes, like it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“She treats me well, so of course I treat her well. She even gave me the family heirloom. Yan Qinglan, are you seriously jealous of me?”
Seeing the playful look on Wen Huaxi’s face, Yan Qinglan nodded just to humor her.
Wen Huaxi gave her a proud smirk, as if to say, “I knew it.”
Yan Qinglan couldn’t help herself. She leaned in and kissed Wen Huaxi’s cheek.
The sudden kiss startled Wen Huaxi.
She nearly pushed Yan Qinglan away.
“Yan Qinglan! Next time, can you at least say something before doing that?” Her face suddenly felt warm and sticky. The kiss was soft, but it caught her off guard. She was terribly embarrassed.
“Then should I ask, ‘Xixi, can I kiss you?’ every time?” Yan Qinglan raised an eyebrow. “Wouldn’t that feel awkward?”
Wen Huaxi imagined that scene for a moment and admitted defeat.
“Okay, fine. That would be awkward. But still, you can’t just sneak up on me like that.”
“Then remember this. Sister just enjoys kissing you every now and then. Is that better?”
As she spoke, Yan Qinglan leaned in and kissed the other cheek.
Wen Huaxi looked like she was about to burst into steam.
She was still stunned when Yan Qinglan hesitated, then made a decision.
Yan Qinglan gently cupped her chin, lifted her face, and pressed a kiss to her lips.
It started as a soft kiss and slowly deepened.
Wen Huaxi was still overwhelmed from the cheek kisses, and now her lips were being softly pressed, her tongue lightly touched, and before she could think, she was responding instinctively.
Her face grew even redder. Her body felt warm and sticky as she wrapped her arms around Yan Qinglan’s waist.
This kiss was bolder than before, though not as intense as the night before.
There was a difference between the fog of nighttime and the clarity of day. Under the daylight, Wen Huaxi clearly saw Yan Qinglan’s features. She watched how she restrained her own energy, how their breaths merged, how that aura quietly took over and made her yield to it.
If they kept going, Wen Huaxi felt she might lose control.
Using the excuse of needing to catch her breath, she gently pushed Yan Qinglan back and began to breathe heavily where she stood.
Yan Qinglan did not plan to give her much time to recover.
Before Wen Huaxi could catch her breath, the next wave of kisses began.
It wasn’t until a tear slipped from Wen Huaxi’s eye that Yan Qinglan finally slowed down. Her lips grew gentler, brushing lightly against Wen Huaxi’s as if to collect the traces of their intimacy. Then she moved to kiss away the tear that had rolled down her face.
Wen Huaxi had no time to process just how inappropriate Yan Qinglan’s earlier words were. Her lips had been completely claimed.
Afterward, Yan Qinglan helped her sit down on a chair, tidied up their clothes slightly, and went to open the door to collect the food delivery.
The smell of freshly cooked dishes filled the room, finally pulling Wen Huaxi back to her senses.
She looked at Yan Qinglan with an accusing glare.
“Occasionally?” she asked, clearly annoyed. How many times had they kissed just today?
“Or perhaps you could call it regularly,” Yan Qinglan replied, calmly mixing the food and spoon-feeding Wen Huaxi bite by bite.
Left with no other option, Wen Huaxi could only glare at her in silent protest.
“Xixi, do you not like it when I do that?” After dinner, Yan Qinglan regained some clarity and felt the need to ask her little darling directly.
If she really didn’t enjoy it, then she would hold back. She could wait a few months and then try to properly win her over again.
Wen Huaxi stared up at the ceiling and blinked.
She actually loved it.
But there was no way she could say that out loud. How could she possibly admit that she enjoyed being kissed so forcefully by Yan Qinglan?
That would sound completely perverse.
But if she didn’t say anything, Yan Qinglan might actually stop.
With her face flushed red, Wen Huaxi stretched out her neck awkwardly and finally squeezed out a barely audible, “Yes.”
Yan Qinglan didn’t catch it and leaned closer, blocking the overhead light with her head.
Wen Huaxi nearly lost her temper. She gave Yan Qinglan a small pinch.
“Don’t you always have amazing hearing? For things like this, don’t ask me again. I’m only going to say it once. I’m fine with it. I really like it…”
Once the words were out, Wen Huaxi immediately scrambled away from Yan Qinglan and fled to the bedroom.
Yan Qinglan paused, trying to catch up with what just happened.
So she was just shy.
In her past life, she had rarely seen such a vivid and lively side of Wen Huaxi.
Maybe she would have to wait until Wen Huaxi regained her memories from after their relationship started to see more moments like this.
Her Wen Huaxi was a clever little spitfire, quick to flare up and adorably dramatic over the smallest things.
Barely five minutes later, while Yan Qinglan was still cleaning the table, Wen Huaxi poked her head out from the bedroom.
“Yan Qinglan, what are you doing?”
“You’re not going to come keep me company?”
When she couldn’t see Yan Qinglan nearby, Wen Huaxi added another sentence.
“I’m coming. Xixi, do you want to go out for a bit?” Yan Qinglan suggested. They had been indoors all morning.
“Sure. Is there anything fun nearby? Or I could take you to the mall I went to yesterday. Although, it didn’t have much…” Wen Huaxi had originally planned to work on a design draft.
But now that Yan Qinglan suggested going out, how could she possibly say no?
She decisively abandoned the design she had planned to draw for Du Jiayan and walked over to Yan Qinglan, watching her search for nearby places.
“Nothing too physical. How about a movie?”
“I’m good with that. Are there any good ones showing?” Wen Huaxi leaned in close, practically glued to Yan Qinglan’s side.
Sometimes Yan Qinglan doubted whether she was the one with touch cravings.
Just look at Wen Huaxi, always leaning on her, without the slightest self-awareness. It was torture for her to have to hold back all the time.
“I thought you would know what’s showing. Don’t you watch movies all the time?” Yan Qinglan teased.
“I study old films. I’m watching to learn from the acting. Lately, there hasn’t been anything particularly inspiring, so I haven’t really been following what’s new.” Wen Huaxi shrugged.
In the end, the two of them randomly picked a movie.
After they had been sitting in the theater for about fifteen minutes, they realized what they had picked.
It was a reincarnation-themed film.
The story followed a woman who went back in time and used her memories to change her tragic fate.
It was a small production, more like a web drama than a blockbuster, clearly aimed at fans of the original novel. But the lead actress’s performance was decent.
The two of them fell into an unusual silence.
They sat side by side, each caught up in their own thoughts, comparing their experiences of reincarnation to the story on screen. All the while silently criticizing the plot holes in their minds.
When the female lead broke up with her ex-wife after being reborn and got together with the senior who had secretly loved her in the previous life, Yan Qinglan slowly turned her head to look at Wen Huaxi.
There was a flicker of fear in her eyes.
In their past life, Wen Huaxi had loved her silently, waiting, watching, never demanding anything.
She hadn’t done anything like she had in this life — threatening divorce just one month after getting married, going out to bars to meet someone new, and bringing a trail of admirers behind her.
Yan Qinglan’s mind was spinning.
Could it be that Wen Huaxi had also been reborn?
That would explain the baby.
The baby clearly came with the mother, not with her, Yan Qinglan.
If that was true, then Wen Huaxi would remember everything she did in the last life, including the time she openly had dinner with Meng Qingzhou right in front of her.
Just as Yan Qinglan was about to ask her whether she had been reborn, Wen Huaxi suddenly turned her head.
Their eyes met.
They stared at each other for three full seconds.
Wen Huaxi swallowed the popcorn in her mouth, then pressed her lips together tightly and scooted a little further away from her.
