Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 44
Wen Huaxi had not even stepped out the door when Yan Qinglan reached out and pulled her into her arms.
“Yan Qinglan! You said I was allowed to be mad!”
Wen Huaxi was genuinely angry now, truly provoked by that one line.
She had already been irritated, and being stopped like this only made it worse.
“I never said I wouldn’t try to comfort you,” Yan Qinglan replied. She had not even finished her sentence, and her quick-tempered little kitten was already trying to leave.
Wen Huaxi tensed up completely. Her temper flared, but she could not get a single word out.
Yan Qinglan sighed softly and gently wrapped her arms around Wen Huaxi, stroking her hair slowly, trying to calm her down.
“What are you doing? I’m still angry!”
It took Wen Huaxi a few seconds to come back to herself. Her outburst had just been soothed, and now she felt embarrassed. She tried to pull away from Yan Qinglan with a mix of frustration and shame.
“I’m comforting you,” Yan Qinglan said as she pinched her cheek.
“I said you could be mad. I never said I wouldn’t make it up to you.”
“It was my fault for not trusting you. So now I’m doing my best to soothe your anger.”
Wen Huaxi’s face turned completely red.
And then Yan Qinglan added, “Are you feeling better now?”
Wen Huaxi did not respond. Instead, she grabbed Yan Qinglan’s arm and bit down hard.
Yan Qinglan winced from the pain and drew in a sharp breath.
When she looked down, there were two deep bite marks on her skin.
But even as she loosened her grip, Wen Huaxi didn’t try to run anymore. Yan Qinglan let out a soft breath of relief.
Maybe this meant she was not angry anymore.
Wen Huaxi swatted away Yan Qinglan’s hand when she tried to reach for her again, but she did not slam the door.
Still, as she walked toward the door once more, Yan Qinglan blocked her path.
“I have to go to set! Move!”
Wen Huaxi raised her bag and tried to hit her with it.
Yan Qinglan noticed the little tuft of hair on her head was still sticking up.
So clearly, she was not fully comforted yet.
“I can’t let you leave while you’re still upset.”
Yan Qinglan, who was stronger, grabbed Wen Huaxi’s hand and half-carried her back to her seat.
“Are you still angry?”
Yan Qinglan held the stubborn girl tightly in her arms this time, making sure she could not get away.
Wen Huaxi was still worried she had bitten too hard earlier. She gritted her teeth and said nothing, refusing to look at her.
She even turned her head away like a sulking child.
So childish.
But so incredibly adorable.
Yan Qinglan gently smoothed down the unruly hair on Wen Huaxi’s head while apologizing again, promising that she would never do it again.
Finally, she leaned close, resting against Wen Huaxi’s chest and looked up at her, clearly wanting to ask if she was feeling better.
“Who even asks that while comforting someone?”
Wen Huaxi finally reacted. Just as Yan Qinglan opened her mouth, she quickly pinched her lips shut.
Yan Qinglan tilted her head, confused.
Was that what she had been angry about this whole time?
What was there to be angry about in that?
Looking at Wen Huaxi’s flushed cheeks, her pink ears, and the shimmer in her almond-shaped eyes, a word came to Yan Qinglan’s mind.
Flustered.
She was completely flustered.
“So next time I shouldn’t ask?” Yan Qinglan said thoughtfully.
She had never been in a situation like this before. Even in her memories from their past life, nothing like this had ever happened. It was a completely new experience.
“You are already thinking there will be a next time!”
Wen Huaxi was so upset that her eyes welled up with tears.
“My mistake,” Yan Qinglan said quickly.
“I meant if something similar ever happens again in the future. Xiaoxi, this is my first time trying to comfort someone. Maybe I didn’t do it well enough. Could you please be a little more patient with me, just this once?”
Yan Qinglan watched as the little tuft of hair on Wen Huaxi’s head finally fell flat. She gave it a few satisfied pats.
Wen Huaxi’s anger had finally faded, replaced only by shyness. She buried herself into Yan Qinglan’s arms.
“Okay,” she mumbled softly.
“That’s enough, right? You’ve finished comforting me, and now I really need to go. I still have to get my makeup done and everything.”
After calming down, Wen Huaxi pulled herself together and tried to push Yan Qinglan away while still clutching her clothes. She was being generous and letting her off the hook.
“Wait a second.”
Yan Qinglan held her shoulders and looked up.
She tilted Wen Huaxi’s head down just enough to bring their faces close.
Wen Huaxi seemed to sense what was coming and slowly closed her eyes.
As expected, something warm brushed against her lips.
It was soft and gentle.
Wen Huaxi could hardly believe someone as blunt and emotionally clueless as Yan Qinglan could actually be this tender.
And she meant it too.
Wen Huaxi did not want to admit it, but everything that had happened today felt different.
Whatever Yan Qinglan had experienced in that village had clearly changed her.
Since she came back, she had been acting strange, but she was also being unbelievably good to her.
So good that Wen Huaxi’s heart was trembling.
She did not want to hold back anymore. She just wanted to stay close to Yan Qinglan.
Even when they fought, she still felt happy by her side.
And the best part was, Yan Qinglan would always comfort her and never let her walk away angry.
Even if her methods were weird.
Actually, maybe they were not that weird at all.
Wen Huaxi felt her entire body and attitude soften. She leaned into Yan Qinglan, just about to deepen the kiss.
But Yan Qinglan gently patted her back and pulled away.
“If you don’t leave now, Xiaoxi, you really will be late.”
Wen Huaxi immediately wanted to take back all the emotions she had just felt.
This woman still had no sense of romance.
She had been willing to kiss her, and Yan Qinglan chose that moment to talk about time?
“Kiss me in the car instead, okay?”
Seeing the little tuft of hair spring up again, Yan Qinglan quickly tried to make up for it.
“Who wants to kiss you!”
Wen Huaxi got up and shouted the words, but still held onto Yan Qinglan’s hand as she walked out the door.
Yan Qinglan’s smile was brighter than ever. She quickly followed and wrapped her arm around Wen Huaxi’s waist as they went downstairs together.
“Yan Qinglan. I may not be famous now, but if I get big in the future, you’d better be careful in public.”
In the elevator, Wen Huaxi gave a warning slap to the hand around her waist.
“Be careful how? Aren’t I your legitimate wife?”
Yan Qinglan looked puzzled.
She had even done her research on the entertainment industry. From what she saw, being close to your spouse was not a big deal.
If anyone tried to stir up nasty gossip, all they had to do was show their marriage certificate.
And there was no way she would just stand by and let people slander her girl.
But Wen Huaxi suddenly fell silent.
She wanted to say, “We’re going to get divorced eventually.”
Or, “Even legally married couples still get judged.”
In the end, she simply said, “It’s not real anyway.”
Because at the end of the day, their marriage was just a contract.
Once the agreed time was up, they would part ways.
Even if she liked Yan Qinglan, it would not matter.
If Yan Qinglan did not feel the same way, it was useless.
Wen Huaxi quietly reminded herself of all the hurtful things Yan Qinglan had done in her previous life.
It helped her balance out the tenderness she had received recently, and finally calmed her down.
She had already divorced her once. If they separated again, maybe it would not hurt as much this time.
But why did she fall in love with Yan Qinglan all over again?
She had clearly told herself that this was a new life, and she would start fresh.
So why was it so hard to let go?
Yan Qinglan held her by the waist and said softly, “No one else knows. Even if it started as pretend, it can still become real.”
That one sentence, both straightforward and layered, held something deeper beneath the surface.
Wen Huaxi felt the warmth around her waist and the soft breath near her ear. Her heart suddenly skipped.
Could Yan Qinglan really mean what she was implying?
Before she could finish the thought, a wave of pain struck her lower abdomen.
This was bad and her emotions had been too turbulent today. The baby was starting to protest.
“Yan Qinglan, I…” She didn’t even finish before Yan Qinglan had already taken out her phone.
After calling the doctor, she carried Wen Huaxi to the car.
Wen Huaxi panted softly, her forehead covered in cold sweat.
The first three months of pregnancy were delicate. One small mistake could lead to complications.
She looked over at Yan Qinglan, who immediately reached out and held her hand.
“I’m sorry.” Yan Qinglan knew it was her fault that Wen Huaxi’s emotions had been stirred up.
Wen Huaxi gripped her hand slightly tighter. “Yan Qinglan, please. For the next few months, don’t say things like that. Please stop with the strange remarks.”
“I’m sorry.” Yan Qinglan saw the tears in Wen Huaxi’s eyes, and her heart ached even more.
“I just want to get through these next few months safely. I want my baby to be born healthy. She’s your child too, so please…” Wen Huaxi didn’t want any confessions or heartfelt truths. She didn’t want to hear them right now.
Yan Qinglan understood. “Alright.” She knew she needed to slow down.
Above all, she could not risk anything happening to Wen Huaxi.
“At the very least, can I still take care of you?”
“Yes, but stop saying strange things.”
She told herself to simply believe that Yan Qinglan had feelings for her.
If she kept believing that, and Yan Qinglan kept acting that way, maybe she could make it through the next several months in peace.
“Alright.” At that moment, the doctor arrived, and Yan Qinglan held back the rest of her words.
It was the same doctor from before. She brought some portable equipment, checked Wen Huaxi’s condition, gave her a dose of medicine, and advised that she rest for at least two hours before working again.
After the doctor left, Yan Qinglan brought Wen Huaxi back to her hotel room.
“I’ll go ask for time off on your behalf. Wait here for me.” Yan Qinglan hesitated slightly. She looked like she wanted to kiss her but was worried it might be too much.
Wen Huaxi, already tired from the medicine, just nodded quietly.
Yan Qinglan gently touched her forehead, then left the room.
Some time later, when Wen Huaxi could not fall asleep, she called her back.
“What did Director Qin say?”
Yan Qinglan’s expression shifted slightly.
“She thinks we’re a couple. She also said you’ve been filming very smoothly and you’re already way ahead of schedule. So she said taking a day off is fine. You don’t need to go back this afternoon.”
Yan Qinglan sat beside her and held her hand. “Are you still feeling uncomfortable?”
Wen Huaxi shook her head. “I’m feeling better now.”
She looked like she had something to say but hesitated. Yan Qinglan leaned in slightly and asked, “What is it?”
Wen Huaxi opened her mouth.
At that moment, Yan Qinglan’s hair slipped forward and nearly covered Wen Huaxi’s face, blocking her view.
It created a small space that felt like it belonged only to the two of them.
Wen Huaxi looked up into Yan Qinglan’s eyes and saw the emotion there.
Her beautiful eyes had softened. They looked calm and warm, like water in the autumn sunlight. They felt like they held love.
Wen Huaxi stopped thinking.
She had promised to believe that Yan Qinglan liked her.
So, she reached up, grabbed Yan Qinglan’s collar, pulled her down, and kissed her.
She wanted to make up for the incomplete kiss from earlier.
It felt like the moment had taken an unexpected turn.
Yan Qinglan could tell that earlier, Wen Huaxi had been rejecting her.
She had pushed away any attempts to test the waters. Any talk of love, or of taking the relationship further, had been quietly turned aside.
Yan Qinglan had assumed Wen Huaxi did not feel the same way.
That she saw her as a friend, as an older sister, and only wanted to maintain their current relationship.
That was why she asked Yan Qinglan not to say anything unnecessary.
Some things, once said aloud, once the thin layer of understanding was pierced, could never be taken back. They could never return to how things were before.
But in the end, Wen Huaxi still wanted to kiss her.
Did that mean she still felt the same pull toward her? That she still had that same restless craving, the same heat rising up in her throat, the same yearning that kept her tossing in bed at night?
Yan Qinglan cautiously slipped her tongue in. Wen Huaxi responded obediently, meeting her halfway.
Yan Qinglan gently helped her sit up, then pulled her into her arms.
But Wen Huaxi was not satisfied. She tugged Yan Qinglan down with her.
The two of them lay on their sides, wrapped around each other, sharing kiss after kiss. The atmosphere quickly turned more intense.
It was already a sweltering summer day. That heat was nothing compared to two people holding each other, both filled with the same longing, both desiring each other deeply.
Just as the tension was rising, Yan Qinglan started to feel uncomfortable again. She gently stopped Wen Huaxi, who clearly wanted to keep going.
Wen Huaxi looked at her, confused.
Yan Qinglan refused to lie on the bed without changing her clothes.
The heat between them was broken. In that pause, she sobered up and sat up.
Wen Huaxi felt disappointed.
Was it a mistake to ask Yan Qinglan not to speak?
If Yan Qinglan had tried to come closer or tried to reject her, would that not have been better than her own endless overthinking?
“Xiaoxi, tell me honestly. When I said I would take care of you, does that include this kind of care too?” Yan Qinglan asked, calmly adjusting the collar that Wen Huaxi had tugged loose during their kiss.
The moment hung in the air, uncertain and heavy with emotion.
