Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 25
Even after spending so many days listening to Yan Qinglan’s sweet talk, Wen Huaxi could not help but shiver slightly at her words this time.
“Yan Qinglan, did you take the wrong medicine or something?” she asked, wide-eyed. There was definitely something strange about her today.
“Jie would never,” Yan Qinglan replied softly, her long lashes fluttering as she blinked, covering the mist in her eyes.
Her phoenix-shaped eyes, usually sharp and cool, now shimmered with a gentle light. The faint moisture in them made her seem even more sincere.
The ripples in her eyes, soft and layered, seemed to carry emotions that drifted toward Wen Huaxi, making her cheeks warm and her heart beat faster.
“There is definitely something wrong with you today. Don’t get so close. We are just partners in a contract marriage, nothing more.”
Wen Huaxi reminded herself of the boundaries, forced down her racing heart, and quickly ran upstairs.
Halfway up the stairs, she turned to give Yan Qinglan a stern warning. “You better not be getting any strange ideas.”
Yan Qinglan looked slightly helpless. “When have I ever broken a promise I made to you?”
Even with food, or letting her pinch her face, even those over-the-top things, Yan Qinglan had always let Wen Huaxi have her way.
“Hmph. Who knows what you’re thinking,” Wen Huaxi mumbled and disappeared into her room without another glance. The only thing she left behind was the sway of her coral-colored curls.
In her memory, Wen Huaxi had always had that same hair color.
Bright and daring. Bold like red roses and wild like untamed flowers.
It suited her perfectly.
Yan Qinglan stayed in the living room for a little while longer before returning to her room.
She still had many things to deal with. She could not allow herself to be distracted by a few strange memories or fall into the habit of simply having fun with Wen Huaxi.
Although, she had to admit that teasing the girl was rather entertaining.
The next evening, they visited the Yan family’s ancestral home quietly and without drawing attention.
It had been quite some time since they last saw Yan Mingzhu. According to Yan Qinglan, the old lady had been recovering well.
When she heard that Wen Huaxi was coming, Yan Mingzhu was delighted and even prepared two big red envelopes for her.
Wen Huaxi’s eyes lit up when she saw them. But after some playful coaxing, she returned one and did not take more than she felt was proper.
Clearly, she liked Yan Mingzhu quite a lot.
Yan Qinglan sat nearby, watching with a faint look of jealousy. She said nothing, but her mood soured slightly.
After checking on Yan Mingzhu’s health and having dinner together, Yan Qinglan quickly took Wen Huaxi and left.
She left so quickly that even Yan Mingzhu was a little surprised.
It was as if she was afraid someone might steal her wife. Yan Mingzhu shook her head but smiled knowingly.
“Gu Lian and his people weren’t around today either.” On the ride back, Wen Huaxi chatted casually, completely unaware of Yan Qinglan’s hidden frustration.
“No, they weren’t. My people said he seems to be staying elsewhere on the surface, but in truth, he’s been missing for a while now. His son, on the other hand, has been quite active.” Yan Qinglan tapped her fingers thoughtfully. She really needed to visit Shuiqing Town herself.
Coincidentally, Wen Huaxi’s film was set to shoot in that area for over a month. That would work perfectly.
“Missing?” Wen Huaxi asked in surprise.
In her past life, even after something happened to Yan Mingzhu, Gu Lian had still been showing up at the Yan household.
“He might have gone back to Shuiqing City. My people haven’t been able to find him.” Yan Qinglan frowned unconsciously.
The fact that her people could not trace Gu Lian’s movements was suspicious on its own.
“Do you think he went back to get something?” Wen Huaxi’s voice grew more serious. Considering that the medicine Yan Qinglan had bought had been tampered with, she could not help but worry.
“It is possible. But I will not let him get close to my mother again.” No matter what Gu Lian was planning, Yan Qinglan was determined to keep him away from the Yan family.
Back then, she had not yet secured enough power and could not act freely. That gave him and, perhaps, her mother, who had been confused at the time, an opening.
But that kind of mistake would not happen again.
Seeing the tension in Yan Qinglan’s face, Wen Huaxi quietly reached over and held her hand.
Yan Qinglan turned to look at her, a little surprised.
Maybe she had gone too far with teasing the day before, because Wen Huaxi had been avoiding her all day.
But now, she had taken the initiative to approach her.
Since Xiaoxi was being so forward, Yan Qinglan had no intention of holding back.
She smiled gently. “You don’t need to worry about this, Xiaoxi. You’re still a student. Just focus on your own life.”
As she spoke, she stretched her fingers and slipped them between Wen Huaxi’s, gently locking their hands together.
“But it makes me very happy that you care so much about Jie.” She rubbed the back of Wen Huaxi’s hand softly, making her skin tingle with goosebumps.
“Ugh,” Wen Huaxi groaned and leaned away, trying to pull her hand free.
But it was not so easy to escape from this position.
Especially with Yan Qinglan’s presence pressing down on her like an invisible force. Even moving felt difficult.
Suddenly, Wen Huaxi realized something. Yan Qinglan must have developed a twisted fondness for teasing her, especially through these intimate gestures.
She was not going to fall for it again. If she could, she would turn the tables and catch Yan Qinglan off guard.
Wen Huaxi held Yan Qinglan’s hand tighter and pushed it downward, then leaned in closer until she was right in front of her.
“If I do not show some concern for Jie, I’ll never feel at ease. You’ll just have to accept it,” she said with an almost noble-sounding reason.
Then she wrapped her other arm around Yan Qinglan’s waist, leaned down, and gave her a quick peck on the chin like a tiny bird.
The moment she finished the kiss, the car stopped.
Her timing was perfect. She pulled away from the stunned and frozen Yan Qinglan and stepped out of the car with ease.
Yan Qinglan lifted her hand to the spot where she had been kissed. Her fingers trembled slightly.
It felt strange.
Her head was warm. Part of her even hoped that Wen Huaxi would keep going.
Watching Wen Huaxi bounce ahead, clearly pleased with herself, Yan Qinglan’s eyes grew darker.
She always had the urge to suppress this bold little girl, to keep her completely and make her her own.
The desire felt shameful and strangely intense.
Yan Qinglan pressed her fingertips to her temple.
Why was she even thinking like this?
There were two quiet days left before Wen Huaxi would join the film crew.
She looked over her list of tasks and sighed in amazement.
First, she went to her university and applied for a half-semester leave. She agreed to take the final exams, but she would not attend any other classes.
She had a valid reason. With Qin Shuyue’s signed letter and her consistently strong academic record, the school approved it without issue.
After that, she had lunch with Lu Tong.
Lu Tong had recovered by now. For the past couple of days, she had been staying at home quietly. Her gland condition had stabilized, but she still did not dare to go out.
If Wen Huaxi had not invited her today, she probably would not have come out to eat at all.
At the dining table, the two of them hit it off immediately and chatted a lot.
Well, mostly it was Lu Tong who felt the instant connection.
For Wen Huaxi, Lu Tong was already her friend.
In her previous life, when she was being canceled by the entire internet and had no evidence to defend herself, Lu Tong was the one who stood up for her. She had fearlessly scolded those who tried to harm her and voiced strong support.
So this time, Wen Huaxi subtly hinted that if Lu Tong ever ran into trouble, she could come to her for help.
There was no need to passively surrender herself to people in power and wait for their judgment.
Lu Tong hesitated. She had her concerns and did not immediately accept Wen Huaxi’s offer.
Wen Huaxi could only let it go for now. She could not force it.
After all, that night, Lu Tong had not truly decided to enter the private room. It was mostly the alcohol and drugs affecting her judgment.
This time around, her friend should not end up repeating the same mistakes.
In the end, Wen Huaxi spent a whole day at home doing nothing, until it was finally time to join the film crew.
“Jie will drive Xiaoxi there,” Yan Qinglan said as she pulled Wen Huaxi into the car. She even tossed Wen Huaxi’s luggage back to the villa.
Wen Huaxi looked like her soul had left her body. Her face was completely blank.
“Give me back my luggage!” she shouted, but by then, Yan Qinglan had already wrapped her in a hug and pushed her into the car.
“Xiaoxi, you promised to come home. Jie misses you.” Yan Qinglan gestured to the driver to start driving, holding Wen Huaxi firmly in place so she could not escape.
Wen Huaxi was so angry she bit Yan Qinglan’s arm.
Yan Qinglan did not even flinch. Being bitten like this no longer fazed her. Not even her usual aversion to germs acted up.
“Xiaoxi, are you going back on your word?”
Her eyelashes trembled slightly, and she looked heartbroken.
“So sad. If you leave Jie behind, I won’t be able to sleep at night.”
Wen Huaxi looked up at her crazy wife with disbelief written all over her face.
“I don’t sleep with you anyway. If you can’t sleep, take sleeping pills.”
Yan Qinglan nodded thoughtfully.
“Although, it wouldn’t be such a bad idea to sleep with Jie.”
Wen Huaxi nearly raised her fist, but thinking of Yan Qinglan’s terrifying combat ability, she chose to pinch her instead.
“Be serious. I said I’ll come home, but I still need my stuff for the shoot. If you take it, I’ll just have to bring it all back to the set tomorrow.”
Yan Qinglan instantly returned to her usual calm and serious self and let go of Wen Huaxi, just like she always did before.
That was enough to put Wen Huaxi at ease.
Yan Qinglan felt a little bitter inside. At this moment, she was only pretending to be uninterested in Wen Huaxi.
“You can have Xiao Liu follow you. If you need anything, have her buy it for you. You don’t even have a proper assistant yet.” Xiao Liu was the driver currently behind the wheel.
“That works, I guess. But you are not allowed to hold my luggage hostage again tomorrow.”
Wen Huaxi relaxed once she saw Yan Qinglan change back to her normal self.
This was the black-hearted, sea king, scumbag A she was familiar with.
She could not help but wonder if Yan Qinglan wanted something from her lately. Why else would she be acting so clingy and playful?
If she really did need something, Wen Huaxi would run. Yan Qinglan’s current behavior definitely meant trouble.
“Jie will have it delivered to Xiaoxi later,” Yan Qinglan said gently.
“That’s more like it.” Wen Huaxi was still annoyed, so she reached over and gave Yan Qinglan’s cheek a firm pinch.
Yan Qinglan did not resist. She did not retaliate either. She just let Wen Huaxi pinch her freely. That finally made Wen Huaxi happy.
When they arrived at the set, Yan Qinglan acted like she had nothing better to do and accompanied Wen Huaxi as she met with the director and got acquainted with the other main cast members.
She stood silently off to the side the entire time, her presence overwhelming. Wen Huaxi had no choice but to pull her aside and glare at her a few times.
“Seriously, Qing-jie, are you going to monitor me while I make friends? This isn’t the Yan family. Do you have to be so overbearing?”
“Injustice. Jie is just keeping you company. When did I ever interfere?” Yan Qinglan replied with a pitiful expression, as if she truly did not know what she had done wrong.
“You are interfering. But whatever. If you don’t want to leave, just go stand over there. That spot. You are not allowed to come back over. I have to work with these people for more than three months. I cannot afford to ruin my relationships here.”
Wen Huaxi scolded her and, in her heart, called her a black-hearted sesame paste.
Yan Qinglan obediently did as she was told and stood exactly where Wen Huaxi pointed, looking like a very well-behaved statue.
Satisfied, Wen Huaxi returned to her coworkers and apologized for the interruption.
Because she joined this project nearly two years earlier than in her previous life, the cast and crew had changed a bit. There were many actors she had not had the chance to work with before.
As long as she was not dealing with Yan Qinglan, Wen Huaxi was unbeatable in social settings.
She quickly adapted, and in less than ten minutes, she had already become familiar with everyone around her.
“You are here too.”
A voice suddenly came from behind her, sounding a little unexpected.
Wen Huaxi turned around and saw a face that looked vaguely familiar.
She tried to remember and then said, “Miss Yu.”
It was the beautiful woman she had met at the bar, the one she had added as a contact while searching for a new love interest.
“What a coincidence. I didn’t expect you to be in this production too. Are you playing the lead?” Yu Xiyun gave her a faint smile.
She had a rare cold beauty to her face, but her voice was soft and charming. That unique combination of coolness and allure made her stand out. Just one look, and Wen Huaxi knew she was playing the second female lead.
Which meant she would be the one acting alongside her the most.
This was a great opportunity. Wen Huaxi’s eyes lit up and she was just about to walk over when someone grabbed her arm.
“Xiaoxi.” Yan Qinglan gently took her hand.
