Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 23
Yan Qinglan made no effort to suppress her powerful presence.
Although her expression remained fixed in a calm smile, it felt cold and distant, like staring into the depths of hell. It was chilling enough to make people avert their eyes.
Someone with such an aura clearly was not an ordinary person. But her face was unfamiliar, so Cai Qi didn’t take her seriously.
He simply thought, with his background, how could anyone in the capital stand in his way?
In his eyes, no one from his generation was more powerful than he was.
“Another one? Looks like today is going to be a real treat,” Cai Qi finally relaxed, letting out a laugh.
Wen Huaxi hadn’t expected Yan Qinglan to be nearby.
She hadn’t even contacted her, yet Yan Qinglan stepped forward on her own.
She walked up and stood protectively in front of Wen Huaxi, blocking her from danger.
“Qing-jiejie…” Wen Huaxi was deeply moved. Her voice, for once, was genuinely warm and sincere.
“Don’t be afraid. I am here,” Yan Qinglan said as she gently brushed her hand over Wen Huaxi’s head.
That simple gesture carried a comforting warmth, and Wen Huaxi lowered her head and eyes, quietly soaking it in.
She couldn’t help but cherish that rare sense of warmth.
Watching them affectionately interacting as if no one else was around made Cai Qi furious again.
“So what if you found yourself an Alpha? Do you think that means you can do anything to me?” he sneered, twisting his neck and signaling the people around him to prepare for a fight.
“Xiao Xi, do you want to stay and watch, or do you want to take your friend and leave first?” Yan Qinglan asked calmly, already sensing that the person Wen Huaxi came for was an Omega.
There was a moment when she relaxed. But then she remembered that with modern technology, even two Omegas could have children.
Seeing Wen Huaxi stand so bravely in front of a group of Alpha men, risking herself to protect someone else, stirred an uncomfortable feeling in Yan Qinglan’s chest.
“I will take her away first. She is not in good condition. Thank you, Qing-jiejie,” Wen Huaxi said, even though she truly wanted to stay.
Yan Qinglan rarely took the initiative to help her. Wen Huaxi’s heart was overwhelmed with emotion. She wanted to see Yan Qinglan protect her, even if it was just for appearances.
But Lu Tong’s condition could not be ignored.
“Hey, did I say you could leave? Do you even know who I am?” Cai Qi shouted, stomping his foot loudly on the floor. The sound caught Wen Huaxi’s attention.
Because of Cai Qi’s twisted intentions, the floor had been cleared of all staff ahead of time. Even though the scene was growing chaotic, no one came to intervene.
Before Cai Qi’s men could even act, they were already subdued by Yan Qinglan’s people and knocked out quietly in the distance, without even alarming Cai Qi and his group.
Yan Qinglan completely ignored the arrogant fool. She told her bodyguards to escort Wen Huaxi and her friend to the hospital safely.
“I am Cai Zhongnian’s son. The heir of the Cai family. If you cross me, I will make sure you are done in this city!” Cai Qi shouted loudly. Even though he couldn’t figure out what had happened to his men, he still wore a proud expression and revealed his identity. His lackeys also raised their heads proudly.
Wen Huaxi was already walking away under the protection of the bodyguards. When she heard his words, she couldn’t help but laugh quietly.
No wonder the power structure in the capital had shifted so dramatically in her past life. With someone like Cai Qi acting like this, it would have been a surprise if the Cai family wasn’t the first to fall.
He didn’t even recognize Yan Qinglan. Wen Huaxi was truly curious how Cai Zhongnian had raised such a son.
No matter how arrogantly those spoiled heirs behaved, they were nothing compared to someone like Yan Qinglan, who had carved her way through the unpredictable chaos of the Yan family and firmly held her position.
Just a single glance from Yan Qinglan was enough to make the men behind Cai Qi back away in fear. They shrank behind him, looking utterly pathetic.
It was a shameful sight. Yan Qinglan didn’t want to waste her time looking at them and let out a soft laugh.
“You don’t even know who I am. I would really like to know how Cai Zhongnian raised you. Or maybe he simply doesn’t think you deserve to know me. That actually makes sense.”
Hearing his father’s name, Cai Qi’s eyes widened in shock.
Who was bold enough to say the name of the Cai family patriarch so directly? Was the woman in front of him actually someone powerful?
He was momentarily speechless, watching as Lu Tong, supported by Wen Huaxi, walked away from the auction hall without anyone stopping them. He felt his blood boiling with rage. Without thinking further, he tried to contact someone in charge to stop them.
Yan Qinglan didn’t bother introducing herself. She saw what Cai Qi was doing but made no move to stop him.
Because less than a minute later, the person Cai Qi had called came running over in a hurry.
Just as Cai Qi was about to celebrate having reinforcements, the manager nearly dropped to his knees in front of Yan Qinglan.
“President Yan, I am so sorry. We failed to manage things properly!” The manager looked like he was about to cry.
How could he have known that granting a casual favor to an old acquaintance would end up offending Yan Qinglan?
And even worse, the target of the offense had been Yan Qinglan’s wife.
The manager turned and gave Cai Qi a fierce glare, then immediately turned back and flattered Yan Qinglan with a sycophantic smile.
“President Yan, what do you think about giving you a twenty percent discount on everything you won in today’s auction?”
His heart was bleeding.
Due to the security failure, the money lost would be deducted from his own account.
And Yan Qinglan had won many items today. Even a twenty percent discount would mean a significant amount of money.
“Twenty percent?” Yan Qinglan raised her eyebrows and glanced at the manager, who was shorter than her by a full head. She couldn’t help but smile faintly to herself.
These people were always the same. They used their power to bully the weak and grovel before the strong.
“Thirty percent. We will give you a thirty percent discount. And next time you visit, we will provide even better service.”
The manager dropped to his knees with a thud and looked ready to kowtow.
“Brother Liao, have you lost your mind? If you won’t help me, fine, but why are you bowing to that woman?” Cai Qi finally came to his senses and looked at the manager in disbelief.
But all he got in return was a cold glare.
Yan Qinglan glanced between the two of them. Without saying a word, she picked up her items and walked away.
The manager thought the crisis had passed and finally let out a sigh of relief. Then he turned and slapped Cai Qi hard across the face.
“Idiot! Do you even know who she is? And you call her ‘that woman’? Even if we sold ten of you, it wouldn’t be enough to pay for a single item of clothing she is wearing. And that’s not even the worst part. You offended her wife.”
Everyone in the elite social circles knew that the head of the Yan family had recently married. She was deeply in love with her wife, and even at family banquets, she made sure to show it.
As soon as they arrived, someone had already told Cai Qi to behave himself and not cause trouble. But he went ahead and did exactly the opposite. He had the nerve to provoke Yan Qinglan directly.
Cai Qi was stunned by the slap he received. In a burst of rage, he swung back at the manager, and the two began to fight. No one dared step in to stop them. A few made a half-hearted attempt to separate them, more for show than anything else.
The scuffle lasted nearly fifteen minutes before a sharp, capable woman entered the floor in a hurry. She saw the manager and Cai Qi tangled together, and her breath almost caught in her throat.
“You don’t need to come in tomorrow,” she said coldly as she quickly ordered others to separate them.
She had been away from the auction house for only a few months, and things had already fallen into chaos. Troublemakers were running wild, and now she understood why the higher-ups were so angry that they reassigned her here.
After dealing with the brawling Alpha men, the woman made a quick call to report the situation to Yan Qinglan.
Yan Qinglan had already arrived at the hospital. She listened quietly to the brief report before ending the call.
In the hospital room, Lu Tong was receiving IV fluids, and her glandular condition had stabilized.
Wen Huaxi finally breathed a sigh of relief. When she saw Yan Qinglan arrive, her face turned slightly red with embarrassment.
“Thank you for today, really. Jiejie, how could I ever repay you?” she asked playfully, throwing her arms around Yan Qinglan’s.
Yan Qinglan just looked at her, her eyes unreadable.
Wen Huaxi began to feel guilty and unsure. Eventually, she leaned into Yan Qinglan’s arm, shaking it gently and acting spoiled in a way that came all too naturally.
She was using the same tricks she used to get her sister’s attention on Yan Qinglan.
“Jiejie, don’t ignore me. Thank you again,” she said sweetly.
There was a light in Wen Huaxi’s eyes that made Yan Qinglan’s heart skip a beat.
Yan Qinglan reached out and gently patted her head.
“If something like this ever happens again… I mean if it does, tell me,” she said softly.
She swallowed down all the thoughts and emotions she had been holding in, not wanting to disturb the glimmer of light in those beautiful eyes.
“You would help me?” Wen Huaxi was surprised and took a moment to react.
“Yes,” Yan Qinglan answered simply, as if it were no big deal.
Something felt different.
Wen Huaxi lowered her lashes, quietly trying to process her thoughts.
It was a strange feeling. One she had never experienced in her past life.
Maybe that was because, in her last life, Yan Qinglan had never really cared about her.
Wen Huaxi didn’t truly trust Yan Qinglan. She gave herself a bitter smile.
She reminded herself not to fall for this so easily. Just because Yan Qinglan said a few kind words, she couldn’t go running back to her.
Otherwise, what was the point of being reborn?
She still needed to find someone new. After convincing herself, the awkward feeling in her heart finally faded.
“What do you plan to do next, Xiao Xi?” Yan Qinglan asked as she arranged for the auction items to be delivered directly to their home, saving them an extra trip.
“I’ll wait for her to wake up. It should be soon,” Wen Huaxi replied, unaware that she was still clinging to Yan Qinglan’s arm.
Yan Qinglan didn’t seem to mind either and allowed her to stay close.
Just as they were speaking, Lu Tong slowly woke up.
She opened her eyes to see the hospital ceiling and the sharp scent of disinfectant. Relief washed over her.
When she saw the Omega girl she remembered from before losing consciousness, tears nearly welled up in her eyes.
“You’re awake? Everything’s fine now. Those men have been taken care of. They won’t bother you again,” Wen Huaxi said with a smile.
Honestly, speaking this formally to a friend felt a bit strange to her.
“Thank you…” Lu Tong’s eyes were still shimmering with tears. She didn’t even know how to express her gratitude to the person who had saved her.
“What should I call you? I… I don’t have anything to repay you with,” Lu Tong said, remembering her empty bank account and feeling helpless.
There was nothing at home she could offer to Wen Huaxi either.
She didn’t even understand why Wen Huaxi had helped her.
As fellow Omegas, surely Wen Huaxi knew how dangerous that group of Alpha men had been.
It was only now that Lu Tong noticed Yan Qinglan standing beside Wen Huaxi, as well as the intimate way the two interacted. She froze, then suddenly understood.
With a partner like that, there was nothing to fear from those men.
“My name is Wen Huaxi. I just couldn’t stand seeing them use their gender advantage to bully you. If you really want to thank me, just treat me to a meal someday,” Wen Huaxi said as she sat down next to Lu Tong’s bed, trying to rebuild the connection with her friend from the past.
Yan Qinglan, who had been quietly standing nearby, finally relaxed.
So these two didn’t know each other beforehand.
Then why had Wen Huaxi watched her so closely the whole night and even stepped in to help?
Yan Qinglan started to feel suspicious. Could it be that Lu Tong was someone Wen Huaxi admired from afar? Maybe a senior she looked up to at school?
Otherwise, Wen Huaxi’s actions really made no sense.
Helping someone in trouble was understandable. But it was as if Wen Huaxi knew this would happen. She had watched the entire time, even though Lu Tong didn’t know her.
Yan Qinglan tapped her knee absentmindedly, deep in thought about Wen Huaxi’s strange behavior.
She couldn’t help but think of her own fragmented memories. If she regained more and they matched events in the present, then it would make sense that she could foresee certain risks.
Could Wen Huaxi also have memories that didn’t belong to this lifetime?
This question lingered in Yan Qinglan’s mind, keeping her unusually quiet during the ride home.
Wen Huaxi, on the other hand, felt a quiet joy in her heart just looking at Yan Qinglan. She couldn’t help but lean closer.
Almost naturally, Yan Qinglan wrapped her arm around Wen Huaxi, holding her without realizing that this level of closeness had already crossed a line.
It wasn’t until the car came to a sudden stop that both of them lurched forward. Instinctively, Yan Qinglan protected Wen Huaxi, especially shielding her abdomen with her arm.
