Three Sentences That Made My Ex-Wife Spit Blood - Chapter 22
Yan Qinglan’s gaze darkened, her emotions becoming harder to read.
“Xiaoxi.” It had already been five minutes, and Wen Huaxi was still staring down at the floor. Yan Qinglan finally spoke, unable to hold back any longer.
Wen Huaxi blinked as if just waking up, reluctantly shifting her eyes. “What is it?”
“What’s so interesting down there?” Yan Qinglan tried to stay calm as she walked over and gently pulled Wen Huaxi closer to her.
“I’m just watching what people are bidding on, and checking out the ones without private rooms. Can’t I look?” Wen Huaxi pushed her away and leaned forward again, still curious.
Yan Qinglan bit her lip. Her chest felt tight, almost painful from how suffocated she felt.
But when she looked again, Lu Tong was already gone.
Wen Huaxi quietly looked away and sighed to herself.
She had seen Lu Tong bidding on some herbs earlier. With Yan Qinglan present, Lu Tong had only won one batch. Maybe there would be a chance to see her later.
She knew those herbs were probably for Yan Mingzhu. And even if they weren’t, she didn’t have the right to ask Yan Qinglan for more.
Knowing someone else’s fate was not always a blessing.
Wen Huaxi used to believe her rebirth was a gift, a sign that she was meant to change something.
But now she wasn’t so sure. Maybe some things were destined to happen no matter what she did.
For the first time, she felt truly powerless.
She slumped into her seat. Even the ice cream beside her had lost its appeal.
She was just about to scoop another bite when her spoon scraped the bottom of the bowl.
She turned her head and saw that Yan Qinglan had taken her ice cream away.
“Yan Qinglan! That was mine. You got it for me. Don’t even think about eating it.” Wen Huaxi leaned forward, determined to get her dessert back from this petty woman.
“Why would I eat your dessert, Xiaoxi?” Yan Qinglan frowned, clearly displeased by the accusation.
Did Wen Huaxi not know she had a cleanliness obsession?
“But cold food like this isn’t good for you. Xiaoxi should eat less of it.” Yan Qinglan handed the bowl to the server without touching it.
Thinking about the past few days, she sometimes wondered if Wen Huaxi even cared about the baby she was carrying.
How could she be so careless? Eating without caution, thinking that buying a pacifier meant she was doing her part. What if something happened?
“I’m not on my period. Why shouldn’t I eat it? I’m fine.” Wen Huaxi tried to protest, but she could only watch helplessly as her dessert was taken away.
“You already had one tonight,” Yan Qinglan said calmly.
Normally, she would not care about something like this. But today, she had acted without thinking. For a moment, she worried Wen Huaxi might get suspicious.
Then she remembered that Wen Huaxi should be the one dealing with it. She was the one who got pregnant. What was there to hide?
With her confidence returning, Yan Qinglan gently pushed Wen Huaxi back into her seat.
“You ordered it for me…” Wen Huaxi muttered, clearly upset.
She was convinced Yan Qinglan was punishing her for looking at someone else downstairs.
How could anyone be this petty?
And worse, she still couldn’t divorce her. It was beyond frustrating.
“I didn’t order it,” Yan Qinglan said. “The chef made extra. That portion was meant for me.”
“So what? It ended up on my plate. You didn’t stop it then. Why are you taking it now?” Wen Huaxi’s voice trembled as she tried not to cry.
Yan Qinglan didn’t realize Wen Huaxi might be pretending. She thought she was really hurt.
“Can you bring her a portion of tiramisu instead?” Yan Qinglan asked. Something sweet was better than something frozen.
Seeing that Yan Qinglan was giving in, Wen Huaxi’s eyes lit up. She leaned closer with a mischievous smile.
Since dinner had only been prepared for two, and now there was a chance for dessert, why not just take Yan Qinglan’s portion?
Yan Qinglan froze for a second when Wen Huaxi suddenly clung to her. Then Wen Huaxi stood on tiptoe and wrapped her arms around Yan Qinglan’s neck.
“Qingjie, before the chef makes more, can I have your dessert instead?”
Yan Qinglan wanted to push her down in frustration.
But she could not bring herself to push away this rare show of affection.
With a sigh, she gave in. “Fine. I’ll wait for the chef to make another.”
As Yan Qinglan guided her back to the sofa, Wen Huaxi was full of questions.
Was this really the Yan Qinglan she knew?
Why was she acting so differently?
Normally, she would have looked like she had swallowed a bug, argued for several minutes, then reluctantly handed it over while trying to maintain her “good sister” image.
Wen Huaxi really did know her well.
Even Yan Qinglan, thinking back on what she had just done, felt something was off.
Why had she given up her dessert so easily?
But looking at Wen Huaxi in her arms, she realized that maybe food wasn’t as important as she thought.
“Aren’t you going to eat it?” Yan Qinglan asked. She picked up her own soufflé and held it out to Wen Huaxi.
Wen Huaxi hesitated. Now she was scared to eat it.
What if Yan Qinglan had poisoned it, or put something in it that would make her unable to say the word “divorce” ever again?
She swallowed hard.
After fighting over dessert for so long, her sweet tooth had kicked in, and the soufflé looked really tempting.
But it was Yan Qinglan offering it. Voluntarily.
“Maybe… you should have it,” Wen Huaxi said quickly. She grabbed the spoon from Yan Qinglan’s hand and scooped a bite directly into her mouth.
Yan Qinglan was stunned but accepted the food quietly.
She chewed slowly, and Wen Huaxi was shocked to see her look almost… happy.
Had she gone crazy?
Maybe she had landed in a different timeline altogether. Maybe this was a parallel world with a completely different version of Yan Qinglan.
Wen Huaxi’s mind spun out of control. Her movements turned stiff and awkward.
She had no idea that Yan Qinglan, much like a dog, was fiercely protective of her food, but even more affectionate toward the person who fed her.
And now, that affection was starting to shift toward Wen Huaxi, someone she already had complicated feelings for.
Yan Qinglan’s heart was racing.
Wen Huaxi had stopped moving, but Yan Qinglan wasn’t done.
She reached over and gently poked her cheek.
“Xiaoxi. It’s about to fall.”
Wen Huaxi finally snapped back to her senses and resumed force-feeding Yan Qinglan dessert.
After finishing the last bite, she quickly slipped away to the other side of the private room, as if she had just fed a wild beast and needed to get as far as possible. She tried her best to make herself invisible.
Yan Qinglan touched her lips and could still taste the sweetness of the soufflé.
She glanced toward the girl hiding in the shadows and finally felt her mood begin to ease.
As the auction neared its end, Wen Huaxi spotted Lu Tong again and became restless.
“Qingjie, can I go take a walk? I promise I won’t cause trouble.”
Seeing her act so obedient and well-behaved, Yan Qinglan agreed without thinking.
Only after she gave permission did she realize something was wrong. Wen Huaxi was probably going to see her so-called new love. Her face darkened instantly.
Instead of sending someone to follow her, Yan Qinglan decided to go herself.
Wen Huaxi had indeed followed Lu Tong up to the second floor. The second floor also had private rooms, not quite on Yan Qinglan’s level, but still belonging to powerful people.
Wen Huaxi had a bad feeling in her gut.
Lu Tong’s appearance was strange. Her makeup was thick and heavy, and she held a glass of wine in one hand.
Her cheeks were flushed in an unnatural way. She looked more than just drunk.
Lu Tong, like Wen Huaxi, was also an omega. That realization made Wen Huaxi’s heart sink.
Maybe she had miscalculated. Maybe her friend had already encountered trouble by this point in time.
Lu Tong stood near one of the private rooms, trying to steady herself by pressing into the base of her thumb, struggling to stay awake. But she was already at her limit.
Her control over her pheromones was slipping fast.
She stood frozen in hesitation, unsure if she should knock on the door.
She did not want to hand herself over like this. But her mother was truly very ill.
Yet if she entered her heat here, in a place like this, the consequences would be even worse.
She was caught between two impossible choices, her mind sinking into despair.
By the time Wen Huaxi reached her, Lu Tong was already on the verge of losing consciousness.
Wen Huaxi hurried to take out an inhibitor patch from her bag and pressed it to the back of Lu Tong’s neck.
As a fellow omega, Lu Tong immediately recognized Wen Huaxi’s pheromones. It wasn’t exactly soothing, but she understood this person was not a threat.
Her body relaxed, and her mind fell into haziness.
Wen Huaxi held her up in a panic and reached for her phone, but she had no idea who to call.
She already knew what kind of danger was behind that door, so her first instinct was to get Lu Tong away from there as fast as possible.
But before she could move, the door suddenly opened.
Several men stood in the doorway. Leading them was a male alpha, cocky and cold, looking down on what he saw as prey.
It was Cai Qi, the current heir to the Cai family, already wielding some real power.
“A two-for-one deal. Lu Tong, if this girl’s your friend, you’ve really brought her down with you,” Cai Qi said with a smirk, looking Wen Huaxi up and down with interest.
His gaze made Wen Huaxi’s skin crawl.
Without a second thought, she raised her bag and swung it straight at his face.
“Look at me again and I’ll rip your eyes out. Drugging people in broad daylight? You call yourself human? You’re a disgrace to alphas,” Wen Huaxi snapped. She pulled Lu Tong behind her protectively.
For a few seconds, everyone around them was stunned by her sudden aggression. Then, as if it were the funniest thing in the world, they all burst into laughter.
“Little girl, are you still in college? In a place like this, you think moral high ground means anything? That’s cute. Even the law doesn’t always touch us,” one of the men said, his tone mocking.
Cai Qi held his swelling face, clearly furious.
“You’re going to pay for that. Do you even know who I am? You have no idea what I’m capable of. You think I care if you’re a woman? I could take on ten of you. How dare you touch me like that.”
It was the first time anyone had ever hit him, and it had been right across the face. For a man, that was the worst insult. He couldn’t let it slide.
Wen Huaxi had already started recording on her phone.
She wasn’t sure what Yan Qinglan would do with this, but she knew for certain that Wen Suixue would not let it go.
She had support, she had ways to expose this. Why should she be afraid of this kind of scum?
“You should remember your own words. My friend ended up like this because of something you gave her, right? You really are disgusting.”
Wen Huaxi’s voice was calm but fierce. While she stood her ground, she was also quickly scanning her contacts in her mind.
Yan Qinglan would respond the fastest. Should she take the risk?
Should she bet on whether this cold, emotionally detached contract wife of hers would come to her aid?
Wen Huaxi hesitated. She knew what kind of person Yan Qinglan was. They had no real emotional bond. Even if she collapsed in the street, if it didn’t affect Yan Qinglan’s interests, she probably wouldn’t lift a finger.
Just as the situation teetered on the edge of chaos, a voice cut through the tension.
“Cai Qi, you’re pretty bold.”
Yan Qinglan stepped out of the shadows. Light and darkness shifted across her face as she walked forward.
