This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 8
A gentle autumn breeze blows as an outdoor banquet is held at the sprawling estate.
This banquet celebrates the powerful collaboration between Galaxy Group, Neptune Group, and Stellar International. The three conglomerates have signed a strategic cooperation agreement, establishing deep partnerships in medical, equipment, and international market sectors for their mutual benefit.
Naturally, this event has significantly increased the net worth of Duan Yizhou, the CEO of both Galaxy Group and Neptune Group. He has led his and his husband’s two families into the top ten of the Forbes Billionaires List, making him the richest man in Asia this year.
As a result, besides the heads of these three conglomerates, their children are also the center of attention. For businesses that have just entered this elite circle, being invited to the banquet is a great opportunity to network.
“My dear daughter, do you see those little boys in the yellow overalls over there? Those are your Uncle Duan’s sons, Luo Yu Duan and Duan Yu Luo. Why don’t you go and play with them?”
In the buffet area, Duan Yu Luo is about to grab a slice of cake when his brother, Luo Yu Duan, stops him.
“Zai Zai, you can’t have cake yet. Did you forget you just had a shot?”
Duan Yu Luo stares longingly at the strawberry cake on the beautiful plate. He swallows, knowing he can’t have sweets right after his shot. He hangs his head in disappointment. “I know, fine.”
His brother, Luo Yu Duan, sees how much he wants it and pats his head. “You’ll be able to eat it soon.”
“Brother, I want strawberries,” Duan Yu Luo says, poking at the fruit section in the distance with his little hand, his eyes pleading.
“I’ll go get them.”
Duan Yu Luo watches his brother go get strawberries. While his brother isn’t looking, he runs to the dessert area, secretly grabs a slice of strawberry cake, and scurries away on his short legs. He finds a table, lifts the tablecloth, and crawls underneath.
The moment he slides under the table, he makes eye contact with a familiar pair of eyes.
Lu Xing He, wearing a small suit, is sitting cross-legged under the table, playing with an Ultraman Rubik’s Cube. He is about to solve the cube when he sees Duan Yu Luo crawl under the table and stops.
“Huh?” Duan Yu Luo’s eyes widen in surprise, as if he can’t believe Lu Xing He is here. He puts the cake down and crawls over to him. “Xing Xing, why are you here—”
Lu Xing He quickly puts down the cube and immediately covers Duan Yu Luo’s mouth, half-hugging him. He lowers his voice. “Talk to me like this, shh… whisper.”
He’s hiding here to avoid the boring small talk with the adults, so he can’t be discovered.
Duan Yu Luo’s mouth is covered. He sees Lu Xing He looking at him very seriously and nods slightly.
Lu Xing He then lets go of him. “Are you playing hide-and-seek?”
Duan Yu Luo keeps his mouth shut and shakes his head.
Lu Xing He gently taps his mouth. “Open the door, and speak softly.”
“No,” Duan Yu Luo says, opening his mouth. He puts his hands on the grass, shuffles his bottom, and sits next to Lu Xing He. He then holds up the cake he brought, leans in, and whispers. “I wanted to eat this cake.”
Lu Xing He hears the cute voice next to his ear. He forgets what step he’s on with his cube and looks at Duan Yu Luo, who is staring at the cake like a little glutton. “Why were you hiding?”
Duan Yu Luo hears Lu Xing He’s question. He looks at the strawberry cake in front of him, swallows, and blinks. “I… I’m playing hide-and-seek.”
Lu Xing He believes him. After all, this kid loves sweets. He nods. “Then you can eat it.” He then picks up his cube and scrambles it to start over.
“Wow!” Duan Yu Luo’s eyes light up when he sees the Ultraman cube in Lu Xing He’s hand. “Xing Xing, how do you play with this?”
Lu Xing He glances at him, puts a finger to his lips.
Duan Yu Luo immediately covers his own mouth, realizing he spoke too loudly. His eyes look innocent.
Lu Xing He sees him being quiet and gestures to him. “I’ll teach you how to play.”
“Okay~”
The two boys are hiding under a table near the outdoor sign-in desk, completely unaware that the adults are frantically searching for them inside the main party area.
In the banquet hall, security guards in black uniforms are communicating through their earpieces.
“Have you found the little master?”
“Not yet.”
“What about the Lu family’s young master?”
“Haven’t found him either.”
“Keep looking. Go toward the outside. Don’t disturb the guests. When you look, you can ask the little master if he wants candy or cake. He’ll come out.”
The sun casts a warm light on the hanging tablecloth. Beams of light filter through the gaps, and the shadows of shoes can be seen.
“Xing Xing, do I turn it here?”
“Yes, you’re so smart.”
“Hehe, then I am very smart.”
Duan Yu Luo turns the cube with his little hands. After playing for less than ten minutes, he is already very good at it. He accurately gathers the different colored Ultraman faces onto one side. With a final ‘click,’ the cube is solved.
He excitedly holds up the cube for Lu Xing He to see. “Look, I did it!”
Lu Xing He looks at the cube, which Duan Yu Luo solved in ten minutes. He’s a little surprised; it took him several days to learn. His little doll is so smart, so, so smart.
“You’re so smart.”
Duan Yu Luo is a little shy when he hears Lu Xing He’s compliment. He puts the solved cube in Lu Xing He’s hand. “You taught me, Xing Xing. You’re the one who’s smarter. You’re the smartest!”
He then picks up the strawberry cake next to him, scoops a big piece with a fork, and feeds it to Lu Xing He. “Ah~”
Lu Xing He doesn’t actually like cream or cake, but since Duan Yu Luo is feeding it to him, he has to eat it. He opens his mouth and eats it.
“Is it good?”
Lu Xing He swallows the cream and cake he doesn’t like. He looks at Duan Yu Luo’s big eyes, filled with anticipation. His parents always taught him that kids shouldn’t lie, but now he doesn’t want to make his little doll sad.
“Delicious.”
Duan Yu Luo hears him say it’s good and starts staring at the cake in front of him, swallowing. He’s conflicted about whether to eat it or not.
Yesterday, his dad took him and his brother to get a shot, and he said they put a robot inside his body. The robot doesn’t like sweets, and if he eats them, the robot will beat him up. But he wants to eat it so badly, what should he do?
Lu Xing He notices Duan Yu Luo holding the cake and still hesitating. He’s a little confused. “You’re not eating?”
“I want to eat it.” Duan Yu Luo’s face is sullen. He furrows his brow. “But I don’t dare.”
“Why not?”
“Daddy said I can’t. The robot will hit me if I do.”
Lu Xing He doesn’t understand why he would say a robot would hit him. He sees he wants it so badly but is afraid to eat it, and he feels a little sorry for him. He takes the cake from his hand and scoops a small bite. “Just a little bit.”
The cake touches his lips, and the milky aroma of strawberry and cake fills his nose.
Duan Yu Luo can’t resist. Without thinking, he makes an “awoo” sound and eats the spoonful of cake. The deliciousness makes him smile with his eyes. He waves his hands. “It’s so good!”
Lu Xing He sees him take a bite and puts the cake aside.
“Mmm, Xing Xing, I want one more bite,” Duan Yu Luo says, a little anxious when he sees him taking it away. He reaches out with his little hand, trying to get more.
“No.” Lu Xing He knows Duan Yu Luo’s dads don’t like him eating candy or sweets. A small bite is enough. He sees him reaching for the cake and hugs him instead. “Let’s play with the cube.”
“No!” Duan Yu Luo licks his lips, still wanting more. He grabs Lu Xing He’s hand and shakes it, coaxing him. “Xing Xing Ge Ge, just one more bite.”
The words “Xing Xing Ge Ge” make Lu Xing He waver again.
He only has older siblings at home, so he only gets to be a big brother with Duan Yu Luo. Since his little brother is begging him, giving him one more bite seems fine.
“Just one bite.”
Duan Yu Luo sees Lu Xing He scoop another bite for him. He leans in and eats it, his eyes squinting in satisfaction.
Lu Xing He looks at the little doll kneeling in front of him, wearing creamy yellow overalls, and sees cake all over his mouth. He’s such a little mess. He reaches out and wipes the cream from Duan Yu Luo’s lips.
“Xing Xing, my butt is itchy.”
The perfectly ironed suit jacket is quickly used as a cushion for the little guy’s bottom.
“Xing Xing, can you recite the Ultraman names for me again?”
“Okay.”
Maybe he’s tired of sitting cross-legged, but Duan Yu Luo doesn’t care about the itchy grass. He lies down and then, feeling uncomfortable, puts his head on Lu Xing He’s lap.
Lu Xing He continues to turn the cube and recites the Ultraman names for him. When the little head settles on his lap, he gets two names in the wrong order.
“You’re wrong,” Duan Yu Luo says, resting his head on Lu Xing He’s lap and looking up at him. When he hears him make a mistake, he pokes him with his little hand. “Do it again.”
“Okay.” Lu Xing He sees how much Duan Yu Luo is enjoying himself. He doesn’t say anything, continues to turn the cube, and recites the names of the 68 Ultramen again. A strange sense of satisfaction fills his heart.
It feels like the cat at home has climbed onto his lap to cuddle.
His little doll is so cute.
About five minutes pass…
“Xing Xing, I’m itchy,” Duan Yu Luo says, lying there and scratching his arm, looking uncomfortable.
His fair arm is covered in red spots, and when he scratches them, they become even more noticeable, forming a large patch.
Lu Xing He is still a child, and he doesn’t know what these red spots are. But he sees Duan Yu Luo scratching so much, so he holds his hand. “Don’t scratch.” Then he lifts the tablecloth.
When he doesn’t know something, he needs to find an adult.
“Waaaaah…” Duan Yu Luo feels itchy and hot all over. Big tears roll down his face. He hugs Lu Xing He, feeling miserable. “The robot is hitting me because I ate cake.”
Lu Xing He seems to realize why Duan Yu Luo hesitated before eating the cake. This kid never hesitated before when he wanted to eat something. If he hesitated, it must be because the adults told him not to eat it.
He feels a little panicked.
But he doesn’t show it. He sees Duan Yu Luo crying miserably on his lap. His face shows a calmness beyond his years. He holds Duan Yu Luo’s hand, not letting him scratch the red spots. There are more and more of them, even on his face. He whispers, “I told you to eat it. It wasn’t your fault.”
His little doll can’t get in trouble.
