This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 7
And so, about two months passed.
The two kids’ bond became so strong that both families found it unbelievable.
Every night before bed, they had to have a video call. If they could have a sleepover, they’d be even happier. If not, one of them would find a way to wear down their parents.
Duan Yu Luo’s specialty was crying. Once he started, his family couldn’t bear it.
Lu Xing He now imitates him but doesn’t cry. If he can’t play with Duan Yu Luo before bed, he simply becomes silent and withdrawn.
But as soon as they get their way, the two boys’ expressions change faster than a traditional mask-changing performance. When they play together, they can make a whole afternoon out of a single leaf and never argue or fight. Even with a language barrier, they manage to play as if there were none.
This is what surprised both sets of parents the most.
With this daily companionship and play, Lu Xing He slowly learned Chinese and could understand it, although his pronunciation wasn’t perfect.
Duan Yu Luo, on the other hand, was called a child prodigy from a young age. He not only inherited his father’s talent for math but also his dad’s gift for languages. In a bilingual environment, he quickly became capable of simple conversations in a foreign language.
This made the two little boys’ bond even stronger.
According to the teachers, the two of them were just as attached to each other at school.
“As long as Xing Xing is there, Luo Luo isn’t a picky eater. He eats everything. You two said before that Luo Luo doesn’t like cherry tomatoes, but now he eats them. If Xing Xing tells him to, he finishes them.”
“His eating habits are also great. When Xing Xing praises him, it’s more effective than when we teachers do. He eats with so much enthusiasm. The only downside is that if Luo Luo can’t finish, Xing Xing helps him.”
“At this stage, toddlers are developing self-care skills. We teachers slowly teach the kids to put on and take off their clothes and shoes by themselves. Luo Luo won’t learn at all. He cries whenever he can’t, and Xing Xing helps him. Luo Luo has probably gotten used to it; he runs to Xing Xing every time it’s time to change clothes.”
“And Xing Xing, being a year older than the other kids, has great self-care skills. We teachers support the kids helping each other, but Xing Xing has gotten so used to it, he helps Luo Luo every single time.”
“During lunchtime naps, these two little ones also stick together. Luo Luo doesn’t like to nap, so Xing Xing coaxes him to sleep.”
“They do everything together. Over time, this isn’t great for Luo Luo’s self-care skills. Other than that, everything is good. His personality is lively and outgoing; he just relies on Xing Xing too much.”
Before they knew it, it was the middle of the semester, and the first parent-teacher observation day for the junior class arrived.
There are 12 children in the class, and it’s their mealtime. The parents are either observing from inside the classroom or outside the window, talking in quiet voices.
This feedback made Duan Yu Luo’s dads and Lu Xing He’s parents look helpless. For a moment, they couldn’t tell if the teacher was praising or criticizing the kids. So, they canceled all their meetings to come to school and see for themselves.
Duan Yu Luo’s dad stands by the classroom window and looks at the children’s breakfast. He frowns when he sees carrots. “That guy is definitely not going to eat them.”
The large classroom has only twelve children, divided into four small groups. The twins and Lu Xing He are in the bunny group, and their every move is clearly visible to their dads and moms outside the window.
Duan Yu Luo stares at the bowl of corn, carrots, and lean meat porridge in front of him. When he sees the carrots, his little brows furrow so much you could use them to catch a fly. He uses his spoon to poke at them, showing no intention of eating.
His older brother, Luo Yu Duan, reminds him, “Brother, Dad and Daddy are watching you.”
Duan Yu Luo secretly peeks. He knows his dads are watching him. He pouts. “Hmph, carrots are still not good even if Dad is watching.” He then sees a bowl pushed toward him. It’s Lu Xing He’s bowl.
“Give me.”
After two months of learning Chinese, Lu Xing He can now say simple words. When he hears that Duan Yu Luo doesn’t want to eat the carrots, he pushes his bowl toward him.
Duan Yu Luo immediately smiles. He holds his little spoon and scoops the carrots into Lu Xing He’s bowl.
Luo Yu Duan sees his brother do this and immediately raises his hand. “Teacher Strawberry, my brother is being picky again.”
“Ah.” Duan Yu Luo sees his brother about to tell on him and quickly grabs his hand. He pulls his own bowl back, his face sad. “…I’m not being picky.”
He then mumbles and scoops a piece of carrot from the porridge, his expression as serious as if he’s going into battle.
“Zai Zai is great.”
Just as Duan Yu Luo is hesitating, he hears Lu Xing He praise him, and his eyes light up a little. He looks at Lu Xing He.
Lu Xing He moves his chair closer to Duan Yu Luo and whispers in his ear, “I’ll reward you if you finish.”
“What will you reward me with?” Duan Yu Luo also lowers his head and whispers back.
“I’ll tell you after you finish.”
“Okay!” Duan Yu Luo takes his bowl without thinking and eats in big mouthfuls. He finishes all the carrots he doesn’t like. After he’s done, he immediately holds the bowl up for Lu Xing He to see, his face beaming as if he’s asking for a reward. “I’m done!”
He then holds out his hand to Lu Xing He for his reward.
Lu Xing He gives him a thumbs-up and uses the phrase his mom often uses to praise him. “You’re the best Ultraman.”
Duan Yu Luo’s heart immediately soars. He excitedly clenches his fists and puffs out his chest as if he’s received an incomparable honor. He even goes over to his brother, Luo Yu Duan, to show off. “Hmph! Brother, Xing Xing said I’m the best Ultraman~”
Luo Yu Duan: “…” Why doesn’t it have the same effect when we say it?
Meanwhile, outside the window, Duan Yu Luo’s dad is more and more confused. He looks at the other dad. “Is Zai Zai that easy to coax?”
If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, he wouldn’t have believed the teacher. He thought they were just sugarcoating his son’s behavior.
This mixed-race boy, Lu Xing He, has some tricks up his sleeve. At home, even a spanking wouldn’t make him eat something he doesn’t like. But with Lu Xing He, a few words and a thumbs-up can make his son so happy.
At their house, Duan Yu Luo is the most difficult little troublemaker to please.
The other dad’s expression is also very subtle. Every night, their older son tells him about what his brother and Lu Xing He do at school. If he hadn’t seen it, he wouldn’t believe his son is so easy to please. He’s too easy to please.
It would never work if they tried to coax him like that.
After breakfast, it’s outdoor play time. The children line up and follow the teachers out of the classroom.
“Xing Xing, let’s hold hands.”
“Okay.”
Duan Yu Luo, with his water bottle on his back, holds Lu Xing He’s hand and walks out, hopping and skipping, in a great mood.
Lu Xing He sees him hopping and is afraid he’ll fall, so he reminds him, “Zai Zai, don’t jump. You’ll fall.”
Duan Yu Luo understands the simple English sentence. He obediently stops hopping and walks beside him, smiling with his eyes. “Okay!”
He’s really well-behaved, Lu Xing He thinks.
He holds his favorite little doll’s hand tightly so he doesn’t fall, because he’s always falling.
In the sandbox, the children put on their sandals by themselves.
Duan Yu Luo sits on the steps next to the sandbox, dangling his fair, little feet, waiting for Lu Xing He to get his sandals for him. Lu Xing He puts on his own sandals and then goes to Duan Yu Luo with his sandals and helps him put them on.
His motions for caring for him are smooth and effortless. He couldn’t have done it so well if it wasn’t a habit, especially at an age when children are still very self-centered.
The dads and moms outside the play area see this and sigh in unison.
“That’s Lu Xing He, right? That kid is so capable. He even takes care of other children.”
“My kid’s sandals are on the wrong feet.”
“Same here. My kid took the wrong sandals from the kid next to him.”
“Coincidentally, he took my daughter’s. My daughter didn’t even notice yet.”
The dads of the child being cared for have very complex feelings. Their younger son is not so silly that he can’t put on his own sandals. Is he taking advantage of Lu Xing He?
Lu Xing He’s parents are having fun watching. “Our son is growing so fast here. He’s even taking care of people. CEO Duan, we have to thank your Zai Zai. If it weren’t for Zai Zai, our kid probably wouldn’t have adapted to the environment here so quickly.”
“Our Zai Zai is causing a lot of trouble for Xing Xing.”
“It’s fine. Our Bennett likes to take care of Zai Zai. Let him do it. Even though he looks calm, he’s secretly thrilled.”
By the steps, Lu Xing He has already helped Duan Yu Luo put on his sandals and looks up at him.
“Hehe, thank you, Xing Xing~” Duan Yu Luo looks at Lu Xing He, who’s squatting in front of him. He wiggles his sandals and leans his little head forward. He puts his thumb on his nose. “You’re really awesome.”
Lu Xing He nods and holds Duan Yu Luo’s little hand. “It’s not a big deal. I’ll help you put them on from now on.”
In reality, his heart is soaring with joy. He secretly makes a mental note: Zai Zai praised him for being awesome again today.
“Brother, help me get a shovel,” Duan Yu Luo says, squatting in front of his sand pile and patting it with his hands. He remembers he needs a tool.
His older brother, Luo Yu Duan, sees that the shovel is right next to him. He reminds him, “Brother, you can actually get it yourself.”
Duan Yu Luo pouts when he hears this. He is about to get it himself when a shovel appears in front of him.
“Here you go.” Lu Xing He hands him the shovel, his expression serious.
Duan Yu Luo immediately hugs the shovel, smiles up at him, and says in a sweet voice, “Thank you, Xing Xing. You’re the best~”
“You’re welcome.” Lu Xing He calmly turns to get a toy excavator. It seems like a small favor, but his ears are incredibly red.
His little back seems to be radiating joy.
If he were a little dog, his tail would probably be wagging high or spinning in circles.
He secretly makes another mental note:
— Zai Zai has praised him for the third time today. He must be really important. Zai Zai can’t be without him.
