This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 71
“Young CEO Duan.”
Lu Xinghe leaned against the doorframe of the lounge. He watched Duan Yuluo take off the shirt he had just gotten dirty, then leisurely put on a clean one. He asked with a smile, “Are you in the mood to go on a date with me tonight?”
Button by button, the shirt was fastened. The red rose tattoo on his chest was hidden, and even the love bites left on the side of his neck were concealed.
He was no longer the man who had just been quietly coaxing him; he had reverted to his reserved and distinguished persona, Young CEO Duan.
“Okay,” Duan Yuluo agreed. After changing his clothes, he walked closer to Lu Xinghe. “When did you start learning? You never told me.”
“It’s hard to say how it started. If I have to give credit, your uncle was the one who introduced me to it; a chance encounter led to him becoming my mentor.”
Duan Yuluo walked right up to Lu Xinghe. Seeing that Lu Xinghe’s shirt wasn’t properly buttoned, he raised a hand to help him fasten the buttons. “Don’t tell me you dress like this when you’re at work. Even though The Harbor is an investment by my uncle, you still have to follow the rules there. Don’t let people laugh at you. Since he trusts you and handed over so much to you, you must take it seriously.”
Lu Xinghe lowered his head. He chuckled, seeing Duan Yuluo so focused on helping him fasten his buttons. “No one manages me at The Harbor.”
“Even if my uncle isn’t there, you still need to be mindful of your image,” Duan Yuluo smoothed out his shirt. He said seriously, “Although this way of dressing is very handsome, you are at your workplace. You are working. You can dress like this at home, in front of me, but outside, you must be careful, understand?”
Lu Xinghe naturally nodded obediently. Whatever his husband said, went. “Alright, I understand.”
The two walked out side by side.
When they reached the elevator, Lu Xinghe pressed the button first. As the door slowly opened, he shielded the opening with his hand and gestured for Duan Yuluo to step in first.
“Baby, I think it’s very necessary for you to check the identities of all Galaxy employees. It’s hard to say whether an extremist like today’s will appear again. I’m not asking you to doubt your staff; I’m worried about you.”
Duan Yuluo walked in first and pressed the ‘door hold’ button inside. He watched Lu Xinghe step in. “Mm, I was thinking the same thing. I’ll have my secretary implement this after the chip launch event.”
“You don’t have to worry about the launch day. I will remotely monitor all situations. Currently, no one should be able to break through my security. On that day, remember to wear an earpiece; I will inform you of any situation.”
The elevator door slowly closed.
Duan Yuluo turned his head to look at Lu Xinghe, his eyes full of fondness. He raised a hand to touch Lu Xinghe’s temple. “When did my Xinghe become so incredible? You have a way of truly surprising me.”
Lu Xinghe held the hand. Hearing the praise, the corners of his lips curled up. He pretended to be calm and said, “The national network attack by Country D’s government three years ago when you were injured was my doing.”
Duan Yuluo listened. “Mm, and what else?”
“The hotel public opinion storm was also my doing.”
Duan Yuluo showed no surprise and laughed aloud. “And what else?”
“Also, from now on, I will appear wherever you need me, especially for the Guardian chip. I won’t let your hard work be destroyed by anyone. Regardless of who attacks this time, I will lead my team to perfectly protect you until the launch event ends.”
“My Xinghe is so amazing.”
“Are you humoring a child?”
“No, I’m complimenting you! I genuinely think you’re incredible. But I also want to critique you.”
“Critique me on what?”
“Next time you dare to tease me like that, you’ll definitely have to write a self-criticism.”
“Then I’ll write it tonight, by hand.”
The black Maybach slowly drove into the bustling traffic, blending with the neon lights of the prosperous city into the darkness.
The dappled light and shadow flashed across the car window and fell onto the driver. His long, slender fingers gripped the steering wheel, and the faint blue veins on the back of his hand extended subtly and low-key down to his wrist. His cuff was slightly raised, and a discreet wristwatch adorned his wrist.
Duan Yuluo leaned against the car door, resting his elbow on the window, and supported his head, gazing intently at Lu Xinghe who was driving.
Humorous, witty, steady, and full of surprises.
It seemed…
He really was different now.
Lu Xinghe turned the steering wheel, driving towards the restaurant he had reserved. He could feel the scorching gaze beside him, and he chuckled softly. “I’m driving, you know. Your look is as if you want to devour me. Didn’t we just finish eating?”
“I feel like you’ve changed.”
“How have I changed?” Lu Xinghe explained, “I am always constant toward you. The future plans are all set. When we return to our country, I’ll buy you a massive house, and then we’ll get married. You can decide the format of the wedding.”
Duan Yuluo gave a helpless smile. “I wasn’t talking about that. I mean the feeling you give me seems to have changed.” He leaned back against the seat and looked at the traffic outside the window. “Before, I always wondered what you would do. Would you feel stifled losing everything? I was always afraid to ask you directly, worried about hurting your self-esteem.”
Lu Xinghe glanced at him. “You think so much about me?”
“Yes.”
Lu Xinghe freed a hand and rubbed his head. “My baby has really grown up, even worrying if my self-esteem is hurt.”
Duan Yuluo recognized the playful tone and dodged his hand. “Stop fooling around, drive seriously.”
“I’ve been driving very seriously the whole time.” Lu Xinghe pulled the car into the restaurant driveway, where the valet stepped forward.
The two opened their car doors and got out. The valet drove away to park the car, and they walked into the restaurant side by side.
Just then, Duan Yuluo seemed to remember something. He paused and turned his head, looking at the black Maybach the valet was driving away. The car model was the same, but this car did not have his license plate.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Xinghe asked when he noticed him stop.
“This car of yours… isn’t the one I gave you to drive?” Duan Yuluo looked back at Lu Xinghe.
Lu Xinghe didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. “No, I changed this car three months ago. Have you only just noticed?” Seeing someone approaching behind him to enter, he reached out and pulled him close, then led him inside.
Duan Yuluo thought back on the car model. It was the same as his black car, which his father had given him. Because it was a global limited edition, it was now priceless even if one wanted to buy it, and the price was certainly not low.
It would cost at least fifty million and above.
He was a little surprised. “Where did you get so much money to change cars?”
A server led the two of them into the restaurant and up to the second floor. It was a crystal room in the open-air rooftop garden restaurant. The crystal room was quite spacious, private, and comfortable, with an elegantly vintage, classical red environment and a perfect view of the adjacent lake.
Lu Xinghe pulled out a chair for Duan Yuluo to sit down, then leaned in. He placed his arms on his shoulders and whispered with a smile, “Baby, isn’t it a little too late for you to ask that question? The ring on your finger cost three hundred million.”
He straightened up, looked at the server, and nodded. “You can start serving the food, thank you.”
Then, he added a reminder that the sweet pudding should not contain eggs.
Duan Yuluo was stunned, looking blankly at Lu Xinghe. After a moment, he lowered his head to look at the blue diamond ring on his ring finger, then looked up. “…You said this ring cost how much?”
“Three hundred million.”
Duan Yuluo’s head buzzed. He found it hard to believe. “Are you that rich as a programmer?”
“It’s not that programmers are rich; it’s that skill is priceless.” Lu Xinghe saw Duan Yuluo’s expression of disbelief. Perhaps seeing him show such an expression was, in a way, a compliment to him. He smiled as he unfolded the napkin in front of him and bent down to place it on Duan Yuluo’s lap, before walking over and sitting down across from him.
Duan Yuluo watched Lu Xinghe sit down, then thought for a moment. “Then, what about the yacht you bought before? The large one or the small one—was it a small yacht?”
Lu Xinghe clasped his hands and rested his chin on them, enjoying all the expressions on Duan Yuluo’s face. Every slight change was truly delightful to him. “The large one, a luxury yacht.”
“…How much did it cost?”
“Eight hundred million.”
Duan Yuluo: “…”
He was completely perplexed. He looked at Lu Xinghe, wanting to speak but holding back. He definitely couldn’t have stolen that much money. But he couldn’t figure out how he could have earned so much money in such a short time. More importantly, he hadn’t seen Lu Xinghe doing anything obvious.
He only started work at ten in the morning and never worked overtime. He was available anytime, and he even waited for him to come home every night. When he got home, he would even give him a massage.
Lu Xinghe saw that Duan Yuluo’s eyebrows were so furrowed that the word ‘Why’ seemed to be etched on his forehead. He found it truly endearing. He reached out and poked his brow. “Why are you frowning? Do you think I can’t earn that much money?”
“No,” Duan Yuluo considered, then said hesitantly, “I just feel like you… have a lot of time to spend with me.”
“Isn’t it good to have free time? If I’m free, I can take care of you and be available at your beck and call.” Lu Xinghe guessed Duan Yuluo’s confusion. Just then, the server came to present the dishes, signaling for the appetizer pudding to be placed in front of him.
Duan Yuluo looked at the strawberry pudding in front of him. “I suppose that’s true.”
“Think about your uncle,” Lu Xinghe said, slicing his steak. He cut the steak into cubes and placed it on Duan Yuluo’s plate. “He is the smartest man I have ever seen when it comes to earning money.”
Duan Yuluo scooped a mouthful of the strawberry pudding. He felt that Lu Xinghe had a point, after all, his uncle was truly the most carefree man in the family. Not only could he earn money, but he could also accompany his Uncle Li Yu around the world on his concert tours full-time, and they were happy every day.
“So, making money isn’t about just slogging away,” Lu Xinghe used a fork to feed a piece of steak to Duan Yuluo. “Balancing work and rest is the most important thing.”
Duan Yuluo looked at him meaningfully. “I suspect you’re subtly criticizing me.”
“How would I dare? I just don’t want you to be so tired.” Lu Xinghe moved the cut steak in front of Duan Yuluo and took the pudding from his hand. “Just eat two bites of this. Eat more meat. Look how thin you’ve gotten recently. If your dad finds out, he’ll definitely criticize me again. Let’s go out on the boat this weekend and relax.”
Duan Yuluo was about to speak.
“I know what you want to say—you want to go supervise the chip progress, right?”
“Yes.”
“Then do you trust me?”
“I do trust you.”
“Then take two days off to relax and meet the launch event with your best self.” Lu Xinghe finished the remaining strawberry pudding that Duan Yuluo had left, raised an eyebrow, and smiled. “With me backing you, what is there to fear? Even if there is an accident on the day, you won’t even notice. I am confident.”
Duan Yuluo saw his confidence, lowered his head to eat a few bites of beef, and smiled along with him.
Of course, he trusted Lu Xinghe. ↘
“Baby, do you like this pudding?” Lu Xinghe asked.
Duan Yuluo nodded. “It’s delicious. This pudding is made without eggs.”
Lu Xinghe understood and raised his hand to summon the server.
The server immediately walked over and leaned in to ask, “What is it, Mr. Lu? Is there anything I can help you with?”
Lu Xinghe pointed to the pudding. “Please send this pudding to my lover’s office at Galaxy every day from now on.”
The server nodded. “Yes, Mr. Lu. I will go and inform the chef right now.” Then he departed.
Duan Yuluo quickly pressed Lu Xinghe’s hand. “There’s no need. If I want to eat it, we can just come again next time.” He wasn’t so demanding about having this pudding.
“It’s fine. This is my restaurant.” Lu Xinghe smiled. “If you like it, I’ll have the restaurant send it to you every day.”
Duan Yuluo: “…” He silently withdrew his hand and sighed helplessly. “Why did you invest in a restaurant out of the blue? This isn’t even your area of expertise, is it?”
“How is it not? I need to learn to cook.” Lu Xinghe said, “You told me my cooking was bad, so I simply bought a restaurant to learn culinary skills. This way, the next time I visit your family, I won’t lack conversation with your Alpha father, right?”
“So, how much did you invest?”
“This one was alright, just over forty million.”
Duan Yuluo: “…”
Just a few months of not checking on Lu Xinghe, and this guy’s net worth had surpassed a billion?
