This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 6
“Boss, what kind of food would you like to eat?”
In the classroom’s playhouse area, a few children are sitting on a pink rug, playing house in the adorable and innocent setup.
Duan Yu Luo puts on a pink chef’s hat and holds a small spatula and frying pan. He sees Lu Xing He staring blankly, not knowing what to play. He scoots over to him and asks with a smile, “Do you like scrambled eggs with tomatoes? It’s my favorite.”
He then starts pretending to cook on the toy stove, acting like a pro. “My dad’s scrambled eggs with tomatoes are delicious. My daddy loves them, and so do I. Do you like them?”
He even flips the pan with his little hand and throws a banana from the side into the pot, continuing to “cook.”
He shakes his head and is having a great time playing by himself. The pink chef’s hat and apron look quite good on him.
Lu Xing He moves closer to Duan Yu Luo and leans over the stove, watching him cook.
He sees Duan Yu Luo’s mouth moving nonstop and tries his best to translate what he’s saying. He can only understand a few words and is instantly annoyed that he didn’t study Chinese with his mom before.
He reaches out to grab the banana in the pot. Why would you stir-fry a banana?
“Oh no, it’s hot. You can’t put your hands in the pot. It’s dangerous.” Duan Yu Luo sees Lu Xing He put his hand in his pot. His expression immediately becomes serious. He instinctively wants to point at him to criticize and teach him a lesson, but remembering his dad said not to point at people, he turns his hand into the shape of a chicken’s beak and pokes him in the air.
The action of his little, chubby hand turning into a chicken’s beak and poking makes Lu Xing He laugh. He reaches out and holds the hand.
Duan Yu Luo sees Lu Xing He’s reaction and knows he didn’t understand what he said. He goes through the little window above the stove, leans close to Lu Xing He’s ear, and says in a quiet and serious voice, “I’m criticizing you. You can’t laugh!”
A cute yet strict tone comes from his ear.
Lu Xing He’s ear feels a little ticklish.
I have to learn Chinese, he thinks. Otherwise, I won’t understand what the little doll is whispering to me.
After the playtime is over, the teacher gathers the children for handwashing and a fruit snack.
Duan Yu Luo was curious about what fruit they would eat today. As he waited in line, he kept peeking over the kids in front of him to see what the teacher was serving. He stood on his tiptoes and tilted his shoulders. But when he saw they were serving cherry tomatoes, his face scrunched up.
He doesn’t like cherry tomatoes at all.
So when it’s his turn to get his fruit, he stands in front of the table, his little hands not moving for a long time. He’s struggling, but he doesn’t want to take it.
The teacher notices the change in Duan Yu Luo’s expression. He is the liveliest darling in the class, so his sudden sullen face is very noticeable. She asks with a smile, “You don’t like cherry tomatoes?”
Duan Yu Luo knows it’s wrong to be a picky eater, but he really doesn’t like them. He nods. “These are a little bit not good.”
“Luo Luo, boys who like to eat cherry tomatoes are the coolest.”
Duan Yu Luo hears his class teacher praise him for being cool. He shyly lowers his head and takes the small plate and the cherry tomatoes. “Okay, then I’ll eat them.” The teacher called me cool, so I guess I have to eat them.
He was brave enough to take them, but after he sits down, he just stares at the cherry tomatoes. His face is very serious, as if they are a horrifying fruit.
Elegant music for meals plays. All the children sit obediently in their seats, eating their fruit, but one child is looking at his fruit with a complicated expression, not moving at all.
After serving the fruit, the teacher reminds the children in both languages to not be picky and eat more fruit.
And Lu Xing He notices.
He looks at Duan Yu Luo, who is sitting next to him and hasn’t eaten his fruit. “Don’t you like it?” He says, pointing at the fruit plate in front of him.
Duan Yu Luo props his head with his hand and sighs, looking very sad. He peeks at Lu Xing He, and then his eyes light up as if he had an idea. “Do you want to eat them? I heard boys who eat cherry tomatoes are the coolest!”
Lu Xing He is very familiar with the Chinese word for “cool.” His mom always uses it to praise his dad, so he knows it’s a compliment. He sees Duan Yu Luo push the cherry tomatoes in front of him.
He suddenly seems to understand something.
The little doll doesn’t like cherry tomatoes. He’s complimenting me for being cool, hoping I’ll eat them for him.
But children aren’t supposed to be picky eaters.
Duan Yu Luo thinks his little trick has worked. He shakes his head happily, glad he doesn’t have to eat them. Who knew a cherry tomato would be pressed to his lips, and he would hear a familiar voice. “Zai Zai, open the door, please~”
He wrinkles his little brow. When the cherry tomato is held to his mouth, he refuses to open it. He turns his head forcefully. “No!”
“He won’t eat them.” The older brother, Luo Yu Duan, is on the side, seriously eating his cherry tomatoes. He sees his brother being picky. “He hates cherry tomatoes the most.”
Lu Xing He doesn’t fully understand what he said. Luckily, the teacher translates it for him and squats in front of him, smiling. “Teacher is asking for your help. Can you help our little Luo Luo eat his cherry tomatoes? If he finishes them, the teacher will give you an Ultraman sticker.”
Now he understands.
Duan Yu Luo hangs his head, looking sad. He uses his finger to flick the cherry tomatoes in the dish. He just doesn’t want to eat them.
Just then, a little fist reaches out onto his leg. The hand opens, and a strawberry-flavored gummy candy lies inside.
His eyes instantly light up. He reaches out to take it, but the hand with the candy pulls back. He looks up at Lu Xing He, a little anxious. “I want it.”
Lu Xing He doesn’t say anything. He just points at the untouched cherry tomatoes on the table and then shows him the candy in his palm again.
Duan Yu Luo’s face is conflicted. He looks at the candy and then at the cherry tomatoes he doesn’t like. He’s in a dilemma, wondering if he should eat the cherry tomatoes to get the strawberry-flavored candy. But he really doesn’t like cherry tomatoes.
Lu Xing He sees he’s not moving and puts the candy back in his pocket.
“I, I, I’ll eat it!” Duan Yu Luo gets anxious when he sees Lu Xing He is about to put the candy away. He quickly grabs his hand, holding the hand with the candy, and uses his other hand to quickly shove the cherry tomatoes into his mouth.
His face puffs up with the cherry tomatoes, looking like a little hamster.
But he eats them with a pained expression.
Because he doesn’t like them.
But for that candy, he finishes all of them. He even watches the candy nervously while he’s eating, afraid Lu Xing He will take it back.
Lu Xing He watches Duan Yu Luo stuff his mouth with cherry tomatoes. The red juice stains his lips. He’s holding his hand tightly, watching him nervously. A strange feeling washes over him when he finishes all the cherry tomatoes.
He likes to watch Duan Yu Luo eat, likes to give him things to eat, and especially likes to watch him finish them.
It makes him feel a little proud.
“I’m done!” Duan Yu Luo hasn’t fully swallowed the cherry tomatoes yet, but he holds up his clean fruit plate for Lu Xing He to see. His cheeks are still full, like a little squirrel, and his eyes are full of anticipation.
Lu Xing He gives him a thumbs-up and says the words his mom uses to praise him the most. “Good boy.”
He then places the candy in Duan Yu Luo’s palm.
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes curve into a smile when he gets the candy. He’s content. He lowers his head and sniffs it, thinking it smells so good. He swallows. But then he remembers what his dads taught him: not to eat things strangers give him. He has to ask if he can eat it.
So he turns to his older brother, Luo Yu Duan, who’s sitting on the other side, and asks him in a whisper, “Brother, can I eat the candy Lu Xing He gave me?”
Luo Yu Duan sees that his picky brother has finished the cherry tomatoes. He ate them because Lu Xing He told him to. Nobody at home can get his brother to eat something he doesn’t like.
He looks at the candy in his brother’s hand and remembers his dad’s warning.
— Yu Duan, you have to watch out for your brother for your dads. He’s too easy to trick. If he gets tricked and taken away, you won’t have a brother anymore.
“No.” Luo Yu Duan reaches out, takes the candy from his brother’s hand, and puts it in his pocket. “You can’t take things from strangers.”
How can my brother listen to Lu Xing He so much? He doesn’t even listen to our dads sometimes, or me, for that matter. This must be a trick. I have to protect my brother.
Duan Yu Luo: “…” Before he can react, his brother has taken the candy. His face immediately scrunches up. He says plaintively, “Brother, that’s my candy.”
“Candy gives you cavities. Do you want all your teeth to fall out?”
“But…” Duan Yu Luo stares at the candy that he didn’t even get to hold for long. He looks at Lu Xing He for help.
The next second, he sees another strawberry gummy candy appear in Lu Xing He’s palm.
Lu Xing He holds the candy out to Duan Yu Luo.
Duan Yu Luo’s face immediately brightens. He takes it. “Thank you, Xing Xing. I like you the most!” He lowers his head and even kisses the candy in his palm. He sniffs the sweet smell, his mouth watering. He quickly puts it in his pocket and glares at his brother. “Hmph! You’re a bad brother!”
He is very cautious, afraid his brother will confiscate this one, too.
His older brother, Luo Yu Duan: “…”
The day at kindergarten is full of joy.
At the school gate, the teacher takes the children out of the school in an orderly manner.
The junior class gets out of school earlier because they are younger. Each child is standing in a neat line, except for the two holding hands at the very end, who are disrupting the order.
“You’ll trip if you hold hands.”
“No, we won’t, Brother. Xing Xing holds my hand very tightly. He won’t let me fall,” Duan Yu Luo says with his backpack on his back. He turns to Lu Xing He, who he’s holding hands with, and smiles. “Right, Xing Xing?”
Lu Xing He doesn’t fully understand what Duan Yu Luo is saying. He just knows he’s smiling so happily and that he called his name, so it must be something nice. He nods. “Yes.”
Luo Yu Duan: “…”
His dads are not picking them up today; their uncle is.
Duan Yu Luo walks out the door and sees his uncle with sunglasses. He jumps up excitedly. “Uncle, my brother and I are here!”
The uncle walks to the gate and shows the teacher his pick-up card. He is about to bring the two brothers out when he sees a mixed-race boy holding Duan Yu Luo’s hand, refusing to let go. He’s also quite tall.
Just as he thinks his nephew, Duan Yu Luo, is being bullied, he hears Duan Yu Luo pull on the mixed-race boy’s hand, look at his uncle, and shout:
“Uncle, can I take him home? He seems to like me too much!”
The sound attracts many parents who are also laughing.
His uncle: “…”
What kind of shameless kid is this?
