This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 4
Inside the huge children’s room, a glass wall full of limited edition Ultraman figures is every boy’s dream.
Duan Yu Luo presses his little hands carefully against the glass, admiring the wall of Ultraman. His eyes are bright, and he keeps saying “wow.”
“Do you want it?” Lu Xing He’s attention is no longer on his Ultraman collection, and he’s not trying to show off. He’s more captivated by Duan Yu Luo’s little expressions than by the figures.
“This Noa is so cool,” Duan Yu Luo says, poking the glass close to him, looking at the Noa Ultraman inside.
Lu Xing He doesn’t hesitate. He steps onto the ladder beside the cabinet, climbs up, opens the cabinet with the Noa Ultraman, takes it out, turns around slightly, and hands the figure to Duan Yu Luo, his gaze sincere. “It’s for you.”
Duan Yu Luo takes Noa, a little shyly. He blinks and asks in a small voice, “For me?”
Lu Xing He understands Duan Yu Luo’s questioning look and nods. “Yes, it’s for you.”
At the doorway, Clemens and his wife, Lu Qing, exchange a look. Is this still our son? They were worried he wouldn’t fit in and would throw a tantrum, but now they have no reason to be concerned. He’s adjusting well. On his first day of kindergarten, he made a friend and brought him home.
Not only that, but he’s also so fixated on this pretty little doll that he’s given away his favorite hat and an Ultraman figure.
So, they hold up their phone to let the little doll’s dads on the video call watch the two kids interact.
“CEO Duan, your son isn’t even looking for you.”
On the other end of the video call, the dads silently watch their younger son and the other boy sitting on the carpet, playing with the Ultraman figures, laughing so hard. They have completely forgotten they have a home, and dads and a brother are waiting for them.
They suddenly get a headache.
Clemens sees the couple’s hesitant expressions and laughs. “Don’t worry. I’ve told my son about the importance of this matter and asked him to talk to Yu Luo. I’ll send your son back later.”
“Can your son speak Chinese clearly?”
Clemens: “…”
“I feel like your son doesn’t want our son to go home.”
And that is exactly the case. The two kids lie on the rug, playing. They hold the Ultraman figures and make them kiss each other’s faces, saying classic lines from the show. One speaks in Chinese, the other in English, but they play together seamlessly.
“I’ll teach you. You are Tiga because you are my light, and I want to be your light.”
“Di-ga…?”
“Tiga!”
“Di-ga.”
“…” Duan Yu Luo thinks the sound of “Di-ga” is very awkward. He lies on the carpet, propping his head with his little hand. He looks troubled as he pokes Lu Xing He’s nose with the Tiga Ultraman. “You’re really silly.”
Lu Xing He’s nose is poked, and he nods seriously. “Yes.”
“What ‘yes’? I’m teaching you how to speak Mandarin. Don’t you want to learn from me?” Duan Yu Luo gets up and sits properly on the rug. He gestures to Lu Xing He. “Let’s sit up straight and learn.”
Lu Xing He looks at his gesture and tentatively sits up. He feels they are sitting a bit far apart, so he shuffles his bottom to sit right next to Duan Yu Luo. He smiles, satisfied, when their arms touch.
“Tiga.”
“Di-ga.”
“Zero.”
“Sand pot.”
Duan Yu Luo hugs his short arms and pouts. He stares at Lu Xing He, frustrated, wondering why he can’t teach him. His eyes roll around as if he’s thinking of something. “Duan Yu Luo.”
“Duan Yu Luo.” Lu Xing He repeats the name accurately.
“Hey?” Duan Yu Luo suddenly remembers something. He holds up a finger and stares at him fiercely in a baby voice. “You’re tricking me! You can say it clearly! You said it in the car just now!”
Lu Xing He’s expression is innocent. He shrugs.
Duan Yu Luo is a little annoyed. Why would he trick him? He recited all 68 Ultraman names for him in the car, and he can’t even recite that many. He mumbles to himself, holding the Tiga figure, like a little bee.
Just then, he feels his cheek being pinched and looks up, stunned.
A lollipop appears in front of him.
“Do you want a bite of this?” Lu Xing He takes a lollipop out of nowhere. It’s also strawberry flavor. He holds the candy in front of Duan Yu Luo, trying to coax him. “This is for you. I hope you don’t have any hard feelings.”
Duan Yu Luo doesn’t have many favorite foods, but he loves candy. His family doesn’t give him too much of it because they are afraid he’ll get cavities.
But Lu Xing He seems to have a lot of candy and keeps giving it to him. This makes him feel like his good friend is a magician who has lots of lollipops.
He gives him candy every time he’s upset.
He swallows, his eyes fixed on the lollipop. He reaches out to take it.
But he grabs air.
Lu Xing He pulls the lollipop back, not letting him touch it.
Duan Yu Luo’s face scrunches up, his hand still suspended in the air. “Huh? You’re not giving it to me?”
“Say cheese.” Lu Xing He holds up the lollipop, signaling that if he smiles, he can have it.
Duan Yu Luo doesn’t understand. He tilts his head and shakes it.
Lu Xing He knows he doesn’t get it. He holds up two fingers and presses them against his soft cheeks, right where his dimples are. He smiles and pushes his fingers upward. “Smile.”
Then, he puts the lollipop under Duan Yu Luo’s nose.
Duan Yu Luo seems to understand now. His eyes light up when he smells the strawberry-flavored lollipop. He immediately flashes a brilliant smile. “Like this?”
On the white carpet, the boy in the cute overalls looks like a living doll. His smile is so beautiful, more beautiful than any flower he’s ever seen. Even though it’s dark outside, his smile makes it feel like the sun has come out.
It puts him in a good mood.
Only the sound of wrapping paper being torn can be heard.
Lu Xing He knows Duan Yu Luo can’t unwrap the candy himself. He quickly unwraps the candy and holds it to his lips, speaking in a coaxing tone. “Open the door, please.”
He doesn’t feel like a kid himself; he feels like the other boy is the kid and he is the big brother.
Duan Yu Luo opens his mouth and takes a big bite of the lollipop. “Mmm,” he says, his voice flying up. The sweet taste makes his eyes squint into crescent moons. His shoulders wiggle. When he tries to take the candy himself, he finds that Lu Xing He won’t let go, and he looks at him, confused.
“Ah.” Lu Xing He tells him to open his mouth.
Duan Yu Luo doesn’t understand but obediently opens his mouth.
“Have a nibble.” Lu Xing He only lets him have a small bite and then takes the lollipop away. He stands up to get a tissue to wrap it in. It’s nighttime, and too much candy will cause cavities. He needs to protect his little doll.
“Huh…?” Duan Yu Luo stares blankly at the lollipop being taken away. He quickly stands up and runs to grab Lu Xing He’s shirt. “Just one more bite, just one more!”
Lu Xing He looks at the sleeve being pulled. He holds the lollipop high and shakes his head. “No.”
Duan Yu Luo immediately puts his hands together and pleads in a charming, sweet voice. “Please, please, just one more bite!” He stares at Lu Xing He, blinking his eyes. “Xing Xing Ge Ge~”
Lu Xing He seems to understand “Xing Xing Ge Ge.”
The hand holding the lollipop slowly lowers before he even realizes it. While he’s lost in Duan Yu Luo’s sweet talk, the boy lunges forward and bites the lollipop.
“…”
The lollipop is stolen just like that.
Duan Yu Luo bites down on the lollipop, holds the stick, and walks away, turning his head back. He stares at the still-dazed Lu Xing He, half-squinting his eyes as he enjoys the candy. He says proudly in a baby voice, “So yummy~”
Lu Xing He: “…” The little doll is a bit mischievous.
“Cough.”
Just then, a light cough comes from the doorway.
Lu Xing He looks up at his dad, who just coughed. He asks with his eyes, “What’s wrong?”
“It’s too late. We will take him home.” After Clemens says this, he reminds him of what he promised to tell Duan Yu Luo earlier.
Lu Xing He hears his dad and doesn’t forget. He needs to remind Duan Yu Luo not to take gifts from strangers or go to their homes. But if it’s his home or his gift, it’s okay.
He would never bully Duan Yu Luo.
Wouldn’t it be okay if he just stayed the night? He’s sure he can protect Duan Yu Luo.
He walks over, takes Duan Yu Luo’s hand, pulls him to the bed, and pats it. “Do you want to spend the night at my house?”
Clemens: “???”
Duan Yu Luo is still biting the lollipop. He looks at Lu Xing He’s actions. “Are we sleeping together tonight?” He then puts his hands together by his ear and makes a sleeping gesture.
Lu Xing He nods.
Duan Yu Luo takes the lollipop out of his mouth and smiles. “Okay!”
Clemens: “…” He promised CEO Duan that he would send his little darling home. He even said the boy had learned his lesson and was crying, but now how is he going to explain this?
He’s not crying? And he wants to sleep with my son tonight?
He wipes his face in distress. No, when did my son become so unreliable?
I need to give their son back.
Night falls. Stars dot the sky over the estate. The peaceful environment allows the sound of cicadas to be heard.
On the large bed in the children’s room, Clemens sits in the middle, telling the two little ones a bedtime story. He holds a storybook, but the content is different from the book.
The story is titled, Don’t Go to a Stranger’s House.
“…Because Little Ming believed the big bad wolf disguised as the grandmother and went home with the wolf after he gave him a lollipop, Little Ming was eaten by the big bad wolf. What does this story teach us?”
Duan Yu Luo, wearing a sleepsuit that is one size too big, listens to the story very seriously. When he hears the question, he raises his hand. “I know.”
“Little Duan Yu Luo, please answer.”
“Lu Xing He is the big bad wolf!” Duan Yu Luo points at Lu Xing He fiercely. Then he looks up at Clemens, a little worried. “Sir, am I going to be eaten?”
Clemens holds back his laughter. He lowers his head and coughs. “So you shouldn’t just leave your dads. What if he really is a big bad wolf? Bennett, you’re not a wolf, right?”
Lu Xing He thinks, How could I be a big bad wolf? “I’m not a wolf. I’m fond of him!” To prove it, he reaches out and holds Duan Yu Luo’s finger that’s pointing at him. His brows droop, and he whispers, “Zai Zai…”
“It’s Zai Zai!”
“Zai Zai.” Lu Xing He anxiously tries to explain, but after thinking for a while, he can’t get any Chinese words out. He can only use what he’s best at. “I love you.”
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes light up. Lu Xing He, who can recite all 68 Ultraman names and say “I love you,” is not a big bad wolf. He’s super impressive.
His clear, bright eyes are filled with determination. He grabs Lu Xing He’s hand and nods to Clemens. “Sir, Xing Xing is definitely not a big bad wolf. He said he loves me!”
Clemens: “…”
