This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 21
Duan Yu Luo had rarely seen Lu Xing He with a dark expression. From childhood, he was well aware of how good this guy was to him and how emotionally stable he was. There were very few things that could make Lu Xing He’s face darken; in fact, he’d never seen it before.
And this love letter had made Lu Xing He’s face darken. He must have been really angry.
He reached out and pulled down the hand that was rubbing his head. He looked up at him, his tone soft. “Xing Xing, I didn’t mean to look. Don’t be mad.”
Lu Xing He looked at Duan Yu Luo, who was trying to comfort him, and was a little taken aback that he was apologizing. He thought, What right do I have to be mad? He awkwardly touched his nose. “No, I’m not mad.”
“Yes, you are,” Duan Yu Luo said, poking Lu Xing He’s eye. “I can tell.”
That poke was so soft and gentle. He felt an indescribable surge of happiness.
Lu Xing He knew Duan Yu Luo was trying to calm him down. He tried to suppress a slight smile, but he couldn’t. He lowered his head and coughed. “I’m really not. Why would I be mad that someone sent you a love letter?”
Oh, why are you trying to comfort me? he thought.
It made him feel too embarrassed to be angry.
Duan Yu Luo’s eyes fell on the slight curve of Lu Xing He’s lips. His eyes were filled with a knowing smile. He smiled and seriously said, “Okay,” then took a candy out of his pocket, grabbed Lu Xing He’s hand, and placed it in his palm.
“For you to eat.”
Lu Xing He looked down at the strawberry-flavored candy in his palm, which still held the warmth of the other’s body. He couldn’t hold back his smile anymore and grinned brightly.
Duan Yu Luo also smiled.
The candy was one that Lu Xing He had given him that morning. But this guy was so happy with the re-gift.
He was way too easy to appease.
The RV slowly drove away from the school.
“You saw the letter, so you saw it. Now that you know he has feelings for you, you should stay away from him.”
“Okay, I know.”
“I have a competition next week for two days. Don’t just accept love letters from people. If you don’t like them, refuse them on the spot and give it back to them.”
“Okay.”
“Stay away from that Jiang Yichen. He’s really not a good person.”
“He likes you? Hmph.”
Lu Xing He rambled on, and he saw out of the corner of his eye that Duan Yu Luo was drawing something on his tablet. He leaned in and saw that this guy had drawn a little person with a megaphone, saying everything he had just said.
Is that little person supposed to be me?
“Does it look like you?” Duan Yu Luo held up his tablet and turned it toward Lu Xing He.
Lu Xing He looked at the little person with the megaphone. “…I don’t have a megaphone.”
“You’re only gone for two days, not two years.”
“Don’t shake your head,” Lu Xing He said, seeing him shake his head. He put his hand on his head, pulled him into his arms, and said in a fierce tone, “When I’m not here, don’t you dare interact with that Jiang Yichen, got it? He dared to write you a love letter, so he’ll dare to confess to you in front of me! Don’t you dare pay attention to him!”
“Okay, okay,” Duan Yu Luo said, pushing him away. He felt like this long-winded guy was talking his ears off every day. “It’s not like I like everyone.”
“Don’t you dare get annoyed with me, got it!”
“I’m not annoyed. I got it.”
The day of Lu Xing He’s departure to France arrived.
Monday.
Duan Yu Luo and his other dad, Duan Yizhou, were walking out of the house and saw a car parked in front of the gate.
The back window was rolled down, and Lu Xing He’s face appeared.
Duan Yu Luo was a little surprised. “Aren’t you going to your competition? You haven’t left yet?”
“My flight is at ten. I have some time, so I thought I’d come and take you to school.” Lu Xing He opened the car door and got out. He saw Duan Yu Luo’s father and greeted him, “Uncle Duan.” “I want to take the little one to school.”
His other dad, Duan Yizhou, saw how enthusiastic this kid was. He knew he was going abroad for a two-day competition, so he didn’t say anything. He patted his son on the shoulder. “Go ahead. I’ll go to the company directly. I’ll pick you up after school today.”
“Okay, bye, other dad.” Duan Yu Luo waved goodbye to his dad and got in the car.
Lu Xing He protected Duan Yu Luo as he got into the car and then bent over and sat in himself.
After Duan Yu Luo was settled, he saw a hand reach out to him. The next second, the hand opened, and in his palm was a folded paper bunny. He looked at Lu Xing He in confusion, as if he was looking at some kind of childish person.
“This is for you. Take it,” Lu Xing He said, putting the bunny in Duan Yu Luo’s palm. “Look at it later.”
“What is it?” Duan Yu Luo examined the paper bunny with a heart on it. He moved the bunny’s ears and thought he saw some writing. He was about to look down when a big hand covered his eyes.
“Don’t look yet. I said to look at it after I leave.”
Duan Yu Luo pulled Lu Xing He’s hand away. He was getting curious about the paper bunny. He smiled at Lu Xing He. “You’re so mysterious. What are you up to?”
Lu Xing He took his hand and pulled him into his arms. The two sat side by side, looking at the traffic outside the front window. He said with emotion, “Little one, I’m going to be away for two days. Don’t get used to me not being here, and don’t miss me too much.”
Duan Yu Luo laughed and played with the paper bunny’s ears in his hand. “It’s only two days, not two years.”
However, every time one of them went to a competition or did something on their own, Lu Xing He would go through this routine.
He was used to it.
After all, it had been like this since they were little.
“Just make sure you call me. I’ll come back as soon as my competition is over.” Lu Xing He held Duan Yu Luo’s head affectionately. His cheek was pressed against his forehead. Then he lowered his voice. “Remember, don’t, under any circumstances, pay attention to that Jiang Yichen, got it?”
“I know.”
“Promise me you won’t pay attention to him.”
“I promise.”
The driver, who was driving, couldn’t help but laugh at how clingy the two young masters were.
Duan Yu Luo heard the driver laugh. His ears turned red, feeling a little embarrassed. He “ahem-ed” and tried to push Lu Xing He away. “Alright, Uncle Lin is laughing at you.”
Lu Xing He’s gaze fell on Duan Yu Luo’s slightly red ears. He thought to himself that his little friend was getting shyer as he grew up. He used to be the most affectionate with him when he was little. In front of other people, he could only go along with what he wanted.
My little friend can’t belong to anyone else.
The car slowly drove into the school campus. It was a time for picking up and dropping off students. Soon, the words “St. Lidon International School” came into view.
“Young Master Duan, we’re at the school,” the driver said, pulling the car over to a convenient spot.
“Then I’ll head in.” Duan Yu Luo saw that they had arrived at the school. He picked up his backpack and was about to get out when his wrist was grabbed. He turned his head.
“Don’t you have anything to say to me?”
Duan Yu Luo met Lu Xing He’s expectant gaze, like a big dog waiting for a bone. He smiled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. He held out his fist to Lu Xing He. “Good luck with your competition, Xing Xing.”
The two fists, one big and one small, lightly touched.
The car door closed.
Lu Xing He held the hand that had just touched Duan Yu Luo’s. Through the car window, he watched the figure walk into the school gate. He felt an indescribable mix of happiness and melancholy. The thought of not seeing Duan Yu Luo for two days because of the competition made him feel down.
This feeling seemed to be getting more and more obvious.
“Uncle Lin.”
“Yes, young master?”
“Tell me, why am I both happy and unhappy?”
Uncle Lin looked at the rearview mirror. He looked at his young master, who had always been emotional, and also noticed the changes after he differentiated into an Alpha. “You’re happy because Young Master Duan wished you good luck, and you’re unhappy because you won’t see him for two days.”
“Yeah,” Lu Xing He said, leaning against the seat with his arms crossed, staring thoughtfully at the car’s ceiling. “It’s an indescribable feeling.”
Uncle Lin smiled, started the car, and drove toward the airport. “Maybe it’s a very good feeling.”
A very good feeling.
Lu Xing He looked at Duan Yu Luo’s figure, which was enveloped in sunlight and about to disappear. He suddenly realized…
Today is a sunny day.
On his way back to class, Duan Yu Luo looked down at the paper bunny with a heart on it. He couldn’t look at it before, but now he could open it. He first unfolded the bunny’s ears. As expected, there was writing on the inside. Each ear had a word on it:
“No,” “Puppy love.”
He laughed out loud. Then he unfolded the entire piece of paper. In the middle, there were five words:
Or I’ll get angry.
What a childish guy.
After reading it, he folded the paper back along the creases, placed it in his pocket like a treasure, and walked toward the classroom.
At the AP&AL Integrated Curriculum Grade 1 A classroom—
“Duan Yu Luo, someone’s here for you.”
Duan Yu Luo had just put his backpack in his locker when he heard his classmate call him. He turned around and saw the fencing club captain, Jiang Yichen, standing at the door.
“Duan Yu Luo, we have practice this afternoon. I came to tell you.”
“Oh, okay,” Duan Yu Luo replied. He felt it was a little strange after answering. Didn’t they just post about practice in the group chat? Why did he have to come and tell him in person? So he asked, “Do the others not have to practice?”
Jiang Yichen had his hands in his pockets and smiled. “Yeah, everyone has to.”
Duan Yu Luo could only nod at this answer. “Okay, I know.”
“What classes do you have this afternoon?” Jiang Yichen walked into the classroom, acting as if they were close friends having a casual chat.
It was true that there was no class going on right now, and it wasn’t forbidden to go to other classes to find students.
Duan Yu Luo had always treated Jiang Yichen as a club captain. He didn’t have any strong feelings about him. He suddenly regretted reading that love letter; it was as if an extra layer of filters had been added that he couldn’t ignore.
He calmly walked back to his seat, took out his tablet, and said with a faint smile, “I have a full schedule.”
In reality, he only had a horse riding class in the afternoon.
“Then how about we practice for forty minutes after school?” Jiang Yichen leaned casually on Duan Yu Luo’s desk, lowering his head to talk to him.
This kind of unnecessary closeness made him feel a little disgusted.
Duan Yu Luo was speechless. He’d never wanted Lu Xing He to be by his side so badly. He could only pick up the water bottle on his desk and pretend he needed to get water. “Sure.”
As he was getting water, he felt an arm press against his side.
His body froze in disgust.
“Did you read the letter I wrote you?”
The question was spoken so quietly that you couldn’t hear it unless you were close.
Duan Yu Luo’s Adam’s apple bobbed. He gripped the thermos a little tighter, and his knuckles turned white. He calmly looked to the side, meeting Jiang Yichen’s gaze. “No, Lu Xing He took it.”
Jiang Yichen smiled and turned his face away. “Why would that Lu Xing He take the letter I wrote you?”
“Because I let him.”
The smile on Jiang Yichen’s lips froze for a few seconds. He looked at Duan Yu Luo. “What?”
Duan Yu Luo screwed the lid on his thermos and turned back to his seat. “I listen to everything he says.”
Jiang Yichen gritted his teeth, cursing inwardly. But he still pretended to be nonchalant. “Are you that obedient? You do everything he says?”
“It depends on who it is.” Duan Yu Luo sat back in his seat. He suddenly felt that Lu Xing He was right. He didn’t have such a strong feeling before, but now, this deliberate attempt at closeness made him feel disgusted.
“Can’t you be obedient to me?” Jiang Yichen tried to sit in the chair next to Duan Yu Luo’s desk.
A book landed on the chair with a “slap.” The sound and the force behind it showed a hint of displeasure. He looked over in surprise.
Duan Yu Luo retracted his hand and smiled calmly. “Sorry, this is Lu Xing He’s chair. He doesn’t like it when people sit in his chair.”
Jiang Yichen felt like he had been humiliated. It’s Lu Xing He again. Every sentence was about Lu Xing He. He pretended to not care. “Okay, it’s fine. I don’t mind not sitting. See you this afternoon.”
“Yeah, okay.”
Jiang Yichen looked at Duan Yu Luo’s cold but beautiful face. He thought about the times he had seen Duan Yu Luo with Lu Xing He. His eyebrows would turn up, and he would smile so beautifully.
The entire school knew how good their relationship was, but there were no rumors of them being in a relationship. It was probably because they grew up together and were used to this kind of dynamic.
As long as they weren’t together, he had a chance.
At that moment, outside the classroom door, Jiang Nianqiao, who had come to find her second brother, Duan Yu Luo, took a picture of the scene and sent it to Lu Xing He.
The plane had not yet started. Lu Xing He was about to rest when his phone vibrated. He took it out and saw a message from Jiang Nianqiao. It was a picture of Duan Yu Luo and Jiang Yichen. They were a little too close, almost ambiguously so.
His sleepiness instantly vanished. His face suddenly darkened, and he abruptly stood up.
Jiang Nianqiao: [Lu Xing He, go get first place and come back soon! You’re about to get your home stolen!
