This Alpha Is So Devoted to His Wife - Chapter 20
“What’s this?”
Jiang Nianqiao, who was sitting next to them, saw the corner of an envelope sticking out of Lu Xing He’s pocket. Curious, she took it out and saw the writing on it.
She read it out playfully. “To my dear Duan Yu Luo?” She looked up at Lu Xing He. “Did you write this?”
Lu Xing He’s face darkened. He reached out to grab it.
Jiang Nianqiao pulled her hand back, not letting him have it, and handed it to Duan Yifan.
Duan Yifan, with a tacit understanding, immediately took it. He looked at the words on the envelope and let out a “yo,” but then he looked at the handwriting and found it a little unfamiliar. The envelope was also already open. “Lu Xing He didn’t write this, did he? Lu Xing He’s handwriting isn’t that ugly.”
Before he could look at it more, the letter was snatched away forcefully.
Lu Xing He took the envelope from Duan Yifan’s hand. With an expressionless face, he politely crumpled it into a mess and stuffed it back into his pocket. Without saying a word, his actions already showed that he was a little angry.
Duan Yifan glanced at Duan Yu Luo, asking with his eyes what was going on.
Duan Yu Luo shrugged slightly. “Someone gave it to me. He took it before I even got to read it.”
“You wanted to read it? No puppy love,” Lu Xing He said. He saw that the water in Duan Yu Luo’s thermos wasn’t finished, so he tapped the cup. “Drink it all.”
Duan Yu Luo was about to speak, but Lu Xing He’s serious gaze told him to drink the water first. So, he could only lift his head and finish the warm salt water in the thermos. After drinking it, he flipped the cup over to show him that it was empty.
Lu Xing He took the thermos, scoffed, and said, “Duan Yu Luo, you need to focus more on your studies. I’ll take care of these things for you. You better not let me find you wavering even a little bit.”
“Wavering about what?” Duan Yu Luo was exasperated by his sudden unhappy tone.
“Wavering about puppy love.” Lu Xing He put the lid back on the thermos and placed the cup on Duan Yu Luo’s head. He looked down at him, pointing at him with his finger. “Don’t let me find out.”
Jiang Nianqiao and Duan Yifan stood side by side, nodding in agreement. They were enjoying the show as outsiders.
“Yeah, puppy love isn’t good.”
“Right, it really affects your studies.”
“But a crush is okay.”
“Right, no one will ever know anyway.”
Lu Xing He gave them a long look, as if they were performing a skit, and then he heard Duan Yu Luo’s voice.
“Even if I had puppy love, I could still get first place.”
Lu Xing He turned his head, his eyes wide in shock as he stared at Duan Yu Luo.
Duan Yu Luo saw that Lu Xing He was about to get mad and lecture him. He held back a laugh and nodded. “I’m serious. I can guarantee I can also help him get first place. It won’t be a problem.”
Jiang Nianqiao heard him and immediately clapped. “See, that’s the mindset of a top student. It’s so good to have the strong lead the weak.”
Duan Yifan also clapped. “Little one, you’re really too amazing. I’m already starting to get jealous of your partner.”
Lu Xing He felt a knot in his chest. He was already annoyed by the letter, and hearing Duan Yu Luo say that, along with his two friends, made his face turn completely dark. Yet, he still forced out a half-smile. “You’ve said it all already.”
“Hey, no, it’s your turn to talk now.” Duan Yifan held out his hand, gesturing for him to speak.
In return, he got a throttling threat, and then a one-sided tennis match, with Lu Xing He relentlessly smashing the ball.
Duan Yu Luo sat on the side, watching the game. His hands were on his thighs, and the hand holding the thermos was in between his calves. His eyes were fixed on Lu Xing He, who was playing tennis with Duan Yifan. In his line of sight, there was almost only that figure.
It seemed that the habit of his gaze following that dazzling figure had become irreplaceable. It had been this way for over a decade, without exception.
“Second brother, do you know who wrote it?”
“I don’t know. He wouldn’t let me look and took it away,” Duan Yu Luo said, placing the thermos on a chair beside him.
Jiang Nianqiao made a thoughtful “hmm” sound. She followed Duan Yu Luo’s gaze, watching Duan Yifan get crushed on the court. She couldn’t help but smile. “Well, Lu Xing He’s temper is really like that. But to be precise, it’s only like that for you.”
“What do you mean ‘like that’?” Duan Yu Luo asked, watching Lu Xing He jump up to smash the ball.
The Alpha, with his mixed-race genes, had tall, long limbs. The muscles in his arm tensed up as he swung the racket to smash the ball. His calves were clearly defined, and the power and speed that erupted from him gave off an oppressive aura of dominance. The power and speed of that line drive seemed like it could tear a hole in the tennis net.
If an expert saw it, they would find that the smash was exactly the same as the one he had just hit—a line drive smash.
Because that’s what Lu Xing He had taught him.
“He’s especially domineering with you, but also especially good,” Jiang Nianqiao said, as if remembering something, smiling. “I heard from Uncle Clemens that Lu Xing He seems to have raised you like his own child since you were little. Anyway, Duan Yifan and I both feel that he’s very different with you.”
“How is he different?”
“It’s more than friendship, but not yet lovers.”
Duan Yu Luo laughed. “Is that so?”
“Otherwise, he wouldn’t be so meticulous and serious with you.”
“I don’t think so,” Duan Yu Luo said, seeing Lu Xing He, who was covered in sweat, put down his racket and walk toward him, wiping his sweat. “He’s just a little long-winded.”
“Who’s long-winded?”
Lu Xing He held his racket with one hand and used the other to lift his shirt and wipe the sweat from his face. The heat from his workout was constantly rising, and it even carried the oppressive scent of an ebony gin Alpha pheromone. The combination of hormones and Alpha pheromones could make a person a little uncomfortable.
He walked toward Duan Yu Luo, who was sitting on the bench.
Jiang Nianqiao could only move farther away. Although she was a female Alpha, Lu Xing He’s Alpha pheromone was too strong. Sometimes, even the suppressant couldn’t completely suppress the remaining 10%.
That’s why they used to tease him about maturing too early. People normally differentiate at 16, but Lu Xing He had differentiated at 14. Mixed-race genes were truly different.
She complained, “Lu Xing He, your pheromone is killing me. Can the Omegas in your class handle your power, even at 10%?”
Lu Xing He responded, “Someone will handle it eventually.”
Duan Yu Luo didn’t feel much. Since he hadn’t differentiated yet, neither Alpha nor Omega pheromones had a big effect on him.
He felt the heat from Lu Xing He as he approached and found it too hot. He scooted over. “I said you’re long-winded.”
“How am I long-winded?” Lu Xing He saw Duan Yu Luo move away, thinking he was disgusted with him. He bent down, put his racket down, rubbed his hand on his head, and then picked up the towel Duan Yu Luo had just used to wipe his sweat. “There are no Omegas in our class.”
Jiang Nianqiao knew what Lu Xing He was hinting at when he answered Duan Yu Luo first and then took her second brother’s towel. She just smiled knowingly. “Oh.”
“You, Lu Xing He, don’t have to be so forceful. My arm is aching now,” Duan Yifan said, walking over with his tennis racket, stretching his elbow and shoulder joints. His face was full of sorrow. “Little one, I’m not kidding. He’s so strong. Can you handle him when you fence and play tennis?”
Then he thought for a moment. “Wait, you’re strong too.”
After saying that to himself, Duan Yifan quietly walked to the side and sat down, looking at the two of them with a strange and resentful gaze, as if they were two monsters, and he was the poor victim who was bullied.
A poor victim who was 1.8 meters tall.
Jiang Nianqiao felt that Duan Yifan was indeed quite wronged. He was caught by these two and beaten up. She picked up a bottle of water and walked to his side, handing it to him. “It’s alright. Have some water and rest.”
“I don’t drink cold water,” Duan Yifan said, looking up at Jiang Nianqiao with a wronged expression.
“It’s room temperature,” Jiang Nianqiao said helplessly.
Duan Yifan sat on the side, unscrewed the water, and took a couple of sips. Thinking of next week’s competition, he looked at Lu Xing He. “By the way, Lu Xing He, are you also going to France for a swimming competition next week?”
“Yeah,” Lu Xing He said, tilting his head back and finishing the mineral water in his hand. Sweat on his neck slid down with his swallowing motion, and the veins that had emerged from his workout were clearly visible. After he finished drinking, he crushed the bottle. “Little one knows.”
Duan Yifan was speechless. “I didn’t ask if the little one knows. Are you unable to speak without mentioning the little one?”
Lu Xing He put the bottle on the side and held the towel on his lap. “I’m going on Monday. Aren’t you going on Tuesday?”
“Yeah, I’m going on Tuesday. Should we stay and play for a day before coming back?”
“No,” Lu Xing He said, looking at Duan Yu Luo. “I have to come back and supervise the little one, so he doesn’t get into puppy love.”
Duan Yu Luo slapped Lu Xing He’s thigh. He said with a half-smile, “Stop talking nonsense. Focus on your competition.”
Lu Xing He was caught off guard by the slap. “I’m worried about you! It’s a preventive measure!”
“You’re only allowing the magistrates to light fires, but not the common people,” Duan Yifan said from the side.
Lu Xing He frowned. “I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did.”
Duan Yu Luo listened to his 17-year-old uncle and his friend bickering again. He was already used to it.
At 4:20 PM, the sports class ended, and the school day was over.
In the tennis hall locker room.
The students changed out of their sportswear. Some went to shower, and others left school.
Jiang Nianqiao and Duan Yifan still had classes to attend and had already been picked up by their drivers.
Duan Yu Luo had already changed into his clothes and was waiting for Lu Xing He outside. While waiting, he saw a crumpled corner of the envelope peeking out of the pocket of Lu Xing He’s pants, which were hanging on the locker door.
It was the love letter someone had given him, but he still didn’t know who it was from because Lu Xing He wouldn’t let him see it.
He reached out and took the letter.
He skimmed through the contents, but he only paid attention to the signature. When he saw the name “Jiang Yichen,” he couldn’t help but frown.
“Little one, can you get my pants for me? I forgot to grab them.”
Duan Yu Luo heard Lu Xing He call him from the shower. He folded the letter and stuffed it back into the guy’s pants. He then took the pants and walked to the door of Lu Xing He’s shower. He knocked on the door. “Here.”
Lu Xing He reached out, took the pants, and said thank you.
Thirty seconds later, the shower door opened.
“Xing Xing.”
“Hm?” Lu Xing He had just stepped out of the shower. He saw Duan Yu Luo waiting for him and instinctively rubbed his head. “Are you hungry? We can eat and then go buy a new skateboard.”
Then he noticed Duan Yu Luo’s hesitant expression.
“I saw the love letter,” Duan Yu Luo said, deciding to be honest. “Jiang Yichen wrote it.”
Lu Xing He’s expression instantly darkened.
