Chapter 47: Elder Sister of a Brother-Obsessed Family X University Professor
On their first trip together to Disneyland, they rode the roller coaster three times.
Ruan Jiyun hadn’t expected to enjoy such a thrilling ride. When the feeling of weightlessness hit, she felt a strange sense of relaxation, as if everything was being released and dissipated by the high-speed track, leaving behind only the emotion of freedom.
Her eyes shone with excitement until she saw the queue numbers increasing. Only then did she remember it was time for the next destination.
The theme park was vast, and most people followed the map to find the attractions that interested them most. Both Ruan Jiyun and Jiang Peifeng were inexperienced, so they followed the map’s route straight ahead, riding the boat ride at the Little Mermaid section and eventually arriving at a jungle-themed restaurant.
Lunchtime meant many customers. Jiang Peifeng finally found a table near the window and let Ruan Jiyun sit down first.
They had walked to several places that morning and were both hungry. Jiang Peifeng took the initiative to order a large selection of food, then handed the menu to Ruan Jiyun: “Is there anything else you want?”
Ruan Jiyun looked at the menu that Jiang Peifeng had already marked up considerably, thought for a moment, and said: “Then I’ll have a waffle.”
She remembered Jiang Peifeng loved desserts.
While waiting for the food, Ruan Jiyun spread out the map, marking points with a pen as she spoke: “The parade is at three o’clock. The concierge said this is a must-see, so we need to go to the viewing area early…”
Jiang Peifeng agreed readily: “Sounds good.” Seeing the little white flower’s enthusiasm, clearly full of confidence in planning the afternoon’s itinerary, she didn’t interrupt her. When the server brought the food, she picked up a shrimp roll and offered it to Ruan Jiyun.
Ruan Jiyun was still immersed in the map. Catching sight of Jiang Peifeng handing her something from the corner of her eye, she opened her mouth without thinking.
Jiang Peifeng’s movement paused for a moment as Ruan Jiyun took the food into her mouth.
The girl’s face was rendered almost transparently fair by the sunlight. Her beautiful eyelashes were slightly lowered, and her red lips chewed the food in small bites, her cheeks puffed out, looking incredibly adorable.
Jiang Peifeng felt her heart stir.
She subconsciously forked a strawberry from the cake and fed it to Ruan Jiyun.
At that moment, Ruan Jiyun finally realized what she had just done. She looked up blankly, meeting Jiang Peifeng’s gaze. The fork in Jiang Peifeng’s hand still held a juicy, crimson strawberry. In the next second, the strawberry was brought to Ruan Jiyun’s lips. She heard Jiang Peifeng’s coaxing voice: “Open up.”
The voice seemed to possess a magic. Ruan Jiyun, acting on impulse, opened her mouth and bit the strawberry off the fork.
The strawberry melted in her mouth, quickly turning into a pool of sweet juice. The rouge-colored liquid stained her lips a faint cherry shade. The sweetness stunned Ruan Jiyun.
Equally stunned was Jiang Peifeng.
Lively music played in the restaurant. The little white flower across from her had flushed cheeks, like sweet white porcelain glazed with a thin layer of color. Jiang Peifeng cleared her throat, pushed the pancake toward Ruan Jiyun, and said, feigning calmness: “It’s not too late to plan later. Eat first.”
The pancakes on the plate had been carefully cut into small pieces, each piece coated with white cream and exuding a delightful fragrance.
Ruan Jiyun lowered her head, her voice so small only she could hear it: “Okay.”
Was I too presumptuous just now? Did I make her think I’m a strange person? She secretly regretted it. Jiang Peifeng was so kind to her, yet she had developed a strange delusion.
She wanted to be… even closer to her.
If Jiang Peifeng knew what she was hoping for, would she think she was greedy?
Thinking this, she calmed her emotions and forced a smile: “Shall we go watch the parade?”
She had to hide this small delusion all by herself, keeping it as her own secret. Tucked deep in her heart, cherishing everything about today as a commemoration.
With this serious thought, Ruan Jiyun regained her confidence. The afternoon sun was even brighter. Many people were taking photos in front of the castle. A boy wearing a Chipmunk hat came up and stopped them, asking shyly: “Excuse me, could you please take a picture for us?”
Jiang Peifeng nodded, taking the boy’s phone.
Another girl stood by the bridge, wearing the same hat as the boy. They held hands nervously, smiling for the camera.
“All done. I’ll take one more for you.” Jiang Peifeng directed the young couple to move slightly toward the center of the frame. The moment she pressed the shutter again, the boy quietly turned his head and kissed the cheek pouch on the girl’s hat.
Jiang Peifeng smiled and returned the phone to him. After the boy gratefully thanked her, he looked at both of them: “Do you need me to take one for you?”
“Yes, please.” Jiang Peifeng readily agreed, handing her phone to the boy, and beckoning to Ruan Jiyun.
Ruan Jiyun immediately trotted to her side. Jiang Peifeng casually wrapped an arm around her shoulder, and Ruan Jiyun struck a ‘V’ sign beside her.
The camera recorded this moment.
The boy took a good picture. Jiang Peifeng checked the photo and said happily: “Thank you.”
At this point, Ruan Jiyun suddenly whispered: “Could I trouble you to take one more for us?”
She took out her own phone from her bag and handed it over, explaining softly, seemingly afraid Jiang Peifeng would object: “…My phone has a beauty filter.”
Jiang Peifeng curved her lips and posed with her again for another photo in the same position.
After thanking him again, Ruan Jiyun carefully put her phone away, feeling that the trip was now complete.
She had secured a photo of herself and Jiang Peifeng. A photo taken at Disneyland, no less.
This feeling of joy followed them from the carousel to the Mickey theater, around the lively parade, buoyed by cheerful music, like increasingly light bubbles, basking in the sun to become sparkling memories.
As twilight gathered, the two of them arrived at the castle again.
The staff had specifically reminded them that the fireworks show was an unmissable highlight, and they were taken to a viewing spot said to offer the best angle.
The bustling crowd around them was eagerly anticipating the fireworks.
The first cluster of fireworks was the prelude, streaking across the sky above the castle like meteors, lighting up the night.
It was the most beautiful performance Ruan Jiyun had ever seen, yet she couldn’t remember what the fireworks show was about at all.
As the fireworks show began, Jiang Peifeng, perhaps afraid of the crowd pushing Ruan Jiyun, reached out and shielded her to her side.
The moment her shoulder was embraced, warmth passed through the thin fabric onto her skin.
Amidst the clamor of the fireworks, Ruan Jiyun’s heart skipped a beat.
Jiang Peifeng stood beside her, they were so close, and her right hand was intimately draped over Ruan Jiyun’s shoulder.
A dazzling array of colors burst across the sky. The surrounding crowd cheered and exclaimed, merging into a celebratory torrent. Ruan Jiyun felt like she was floating on a cloud, the light particles scattering brilliantly.
It was a breathtaking, fantastical performance, yet she couldn’t help but turn her head and look up at the person beside her.
Light and shadow danced brightly across that person’s face and body, like a shower of countless stars. She habitually squinted slightly, her thick eyelashes casting a shadow on her cheek, illuminated by the light to appear incredibly gentle.
The music soared on the wind. A female voice pierced the night air, singing a lament, like a melody playing on her heartstrings:
“…If I wear a mask I can fool the world But I cannot fool my heart…”
A golden waterfall of fireworks unfurled in the night sky. Brilliant gold specks rained down like falling drops, grand, magnificent, beautiful enough to weave a dream.
The singing continued.
“…I am now In a world where I have to hide my heart And what I believe in But somehow I will show the world what’s inside my heart…”
The desires hidden deep in her heart felt real, growing wildly.
Suddenly, a giant golden firework bloomed overhead. The tiny specks of light disappeared into the night sky, and then with a “boom,” exploded into countless smaller fireworks, illuminating the sky.
In the midst of this splendid pyrotechnic display, Ruan Jiyun saw Jiang Peifeng turn her face. She lowered her head slightly, and their eyes met.
Fireworks rained down like falling stars, blending with the soaring, joyful music. The entire night sky boiled with light. The light show projected dazzling cartoon figures, the sound of the cello, the rhythm of the drums, and the cracking of the fireworks—noisy and booming, announcing the imminent climax of the performance.
But neither of them could bear to look away from the other’s face for a second.
The girl’s bright gaze was sparkling, stained by the fireworks. Against the light, Jiang Peifeng saw herself reflected in Ruan Jiyun’s eyes. She kept smiling, then saw that reflection magnify, followed by a soft body rushing forward and hugging her tightly.
“Thank you,” she heard the little white flower’s excited and slightly trembling voice, pushed by the surrounding noise, yet clearly reaching her ears. “This is the best, happiest day I’ve ever had.”
Jiang Peifeng was stunned for a second by the emotion contained in that voice, then hugged her back.
“You will be happy forever,” she whispered. “I promise.”
This dazed, slightly impulsive excitement had not dissipated by the time they returned to the hotel. Jiang Peifeng considered the situation and felt that she couldn’t calmly face the little white flower right now, so she used the excuse of taking a shower and retreated into the bathroom first.
The peach-scented body wash she had bought for the little white flower sat on the vanity. Jiang Peifeng usually liked the scent, but today, she found the smell far too sweet.
The cap was clearly closed, yet the clean sweetness seemed to have a life of its own, drilling into her nostrils.
“I’ll scare her.” She rubbed her head slightly, feeling irritated, and turned on the cold showerhead to splash water on her face, trying to calm down.
This world had only started less than a year ago. Although the little white flower in the outer room was very close to her, she didn’t have the memories of their past. If she were too abrupt, she might scare her.
Jiang Peifeng frowned and lay back in the bathtub, suddenly resenting this system world.
What was it like to have to court your wife again every single time? She dropped the nail file in her hand, feeling that she was truly going crazy.
Was now the time to file her nails? Shouldn’t she be cautiously thinking and planning how to make Ruan Jiyun fall in love with her again, faster?
Thinking this, Jiang Peifeng sadly blew a string of bubbles on the water’s surface, then unhappily picked the nail file back up.
