Chapter 46: Elder Sister of a Brother-Obsessed Family X University Professor
Ruan Jiyun thought “going out to play” as mentioned by Jiang Peifeng meant merely wandering around the city.
Instead, she watched Jiang Peifeng pack snacks and drinks, then take out a small suitcase and start putting clothes inside.
“Where are we going?” she asked with a touch of unease, her eyes following Jiang Peifeng’s movements.
Jiang Peifeng looked at her. Having rested well for the past two days, the girl’s face had regained its healthy, radiant glow. The fluffy hair on her forehead caught the light, making her look like a clever and beautiful kitten. Jiang Peifeng smiled: “I’m taking you to the most fun place in the world.”
The place she was taking Ruan Jiyun was the Disneyland in the neighboring city, Haicheng.
It was the largest theme park in Asia. When it opened two years ago, it dominated social media feeds for a while. Several of Ruan Jiyun’s classmates had proudly mentioned, intentionally or not, their experiences of being taken there by their parents when they returned from summer vacation.
She remembered the girl who shared her desk had gone, bringing back a Mickey head key chain as a gift. She treasured it for a long time and finally, unable to bear using it, quietly placed it in her drawer.
“I heard the tickets are really expensive…” she thought for a moment, then cautiously said, “I don’t actually need to go to such an expensive place to have fun.”
Just being with Jiang Peifeng was more than enough for her.
Jiang Peifeng adjusted the air conditioner vent upwards for her, then retorted: “Why wouldn’t you? Our Xiao Yun scored so well. It would be entirely wrong not to have a reward!”
She said it with such matter-of-factness that Ruan Jiyun was momentarily stunned. In her worldview, doing well in an exam… wasn’t that just normal? What could good grades be exchanged for? Perhaps only a parent’s rare and fleeting smile.
But Jiang Peifeng treated it with such seriousness. Ruan Jiyun thought for a moment and promised firmly: “Then I’ll study well for all my future exams too!”
Does good academic performance make Jiang Peifeng happy?
The girl’s crisp, sweet voice surprised Jiang Peifeng. She turned to look at Ruan Jiyun and saw an unusually firm look in the little white flower’s eyes. She couldn’t help but laugh softly.
“Silly girl, I spoke wrongly,” she kept the steering wheel steady with her left hand, then suddenly reached over with the other and stroked Ruan Jiyun’s head.
Her touch was very light, falling on Ruan Jiyun’s hair like a gentle cloud. Ruan Jiyun was caught off guard, stroked several times as if she were a cat. Jiang Peifeng’s fingertips were warm, gently comforting her.
“This is not a transaction,” Jiang Peifeng said patiently. “Xiao Yun, remember this: the people who love you will never ask you to give something to get something in return. Love itself requires no repayment.”
Ruan Jiyun was slightly bewildered. She had no experience with unconditional love, and her attention was completely drawn to the word “love.” She knew Jiang Peifeng was only stating a viewpoint, yet her heart fluttered at the words.
They drove several hundred kilometers to Haicheng. Without stopping in the city center, Jiang Peifeng drove directly to a lavish, castle-like themed hotel near the park.
“We won’t rush into the park today. We’ll stay here for one night.” Before the trip, Jiang Peifeng had specifically asked an experienced colleague and was recommended to book this Disney-operated hotel. Seeing Ruan Jiyun staring blankly at the entrance, she naturally took her hand. “Watch out for cars.”
The hotel’s decor and facilities were entirely Disney-themed. The lights projected a giant Mickey shadow onto the floor tiles, and the sound of music tinkled in the air. Beautifully dressed children chased and played.
Ruan Jiyun was overwhelmed, following closely, hand-in-hand with Jiang Peifeng. Jiang Peifeng’s palm always seemed warm. Despite the over 30-degree summer heat, Ruan Jiyun didn’t want to let go at all.
She felt like she was stepping into a beautiful dream. Otherwise, there was no explanation for such delightful scenes appearing in her otherwise ordinary life.
The room was also decorated with a fairy-tale charm: a cherry wood bed, a golden-printed carpet, and when she slid open the balcony door, the spires of the Disney Princess castle were right there. Ruan Jiyun touched this, looked at that, finding everything incredibly new.
Seeing the little white flower show such rare, childlike joy, Jiang Peifeng felt a twinge of tenderness, confirming that this trip was indeed the right thing to do.
Early the next morning, they took the hotel’s courtesy car into the park. It was peak summer vacation, and the park was overcrowded, making the hotel’s early entry service incredibly valuable.
From the moment she entered the park, Ruan Jiyun was like a small bird set free. She carefully studied the complex map in her hand and obediently looked up to ask: “Which one do you want to ride first?”
Jiang Peifeng had never been here either, so she smiled and said: “You decide.”
She noticed all the passing tourists wearing Mickey ears. Her gaze involuntarily fell on Ruan Jiyun’s head: “But first, we need to buy you some headwear.”
Whatever other children had, her little white flower must also possess.
The Central Avenue was lined with souvenir shops. Jiang Peifeng led Ruan Jiyun into the largest one and picked out what she considered the cutest one, handing it to Ruan Jiyun.
The pink Mickey mouse ears with a large bow instantly made the delicate and lovely little white flower’s face look even smaller. Jiang Peifeng was very satisfied: “Beautiful, that’s the one. Oh? They sell bags here too?”
Ruan Jiyun was still dazed under the huge, adorable headband. Seeing that Jiang Peifeng wanted to buy more things, she frantically grabbed her sleeve: “Just buy one! This… costs over a hundred yuan…”
Before she finished speaking, Jiang Peifeng had fastened a StellaLou cross-body bag onto her: “To carry your candy.”
Ruan Jiyun: “…” She felt like Jiang Peifeng was treating her like a child.
Finally, they walked out of the gift shop carrying a bag full of things. At Ruan Jiyun’s insistence, Jiang Peifeng bought herself a Mickey Mouse hat. The cute hat was worn by a cool, detached woman’s face, attracting many passersby’s attention.
The next moment, the cool woman walked toward another souvenir shop, picked up a ShellieMay-shaped water bottle with a clear purpose…
Just like that, the inexperienced tourist Jiang Peifeng had bought a pile of goods within thirty minutes of entering the park, until even the accompanying staff couldn’t stand it and subtly advised them to go on the rides first and let them hold the items in storage.
Ruan Jiyun didn’t know whether to laugh or cry: “If we buy any more, we won’t have time for the rides!”
She realized that Jiang Peifeng was a shopaholic. She had stuffed the entire refrigerator when buying snacks before, and now she was doing the same with souvenirs. Thinking this, Ruan Jiyun secretly added a mental note: I need to monitor her spending in the future.
Then she found it a little funny. Doing this felt like she was trying to manage the other person’s affairs. But they weren’t that close, so worrying about this was completely unnecessary.
Lost in thought, her wrist was suddenly taken. Jiang Peifeng tied a balloon to her wrist. Seeing Ruan Jiyun about to say something, she immediately stressed: “I only bought this one.”
After saying that, she happily shook Ruan Jiyun’s wrist, watching the balloon sway up and down: “I saw that everyone else had one.”
Ruan Jiyun was somewhat startled. The faint delusion she had suppressed earlier surfaced again, making her heart race uncontrollably.
Even a tiny delusion is fine. Just let me keep this beautiful memory.
Jiang Peifeng had already naturally taken her hand again: “Which ride did you say you wanted to go on first?”
Ruan Jiyun picked up the map with her free left hand: “TRON Lightcycle Power Run.”
This was one of the park’s biggest hits. People were already beginning to queue up. Jiang Peifeng had bought the Fastpass service, so she walked into the futuristic-looking building with the little white flower.
Then she stared at the row of motorcycle-style seats in deep contemplation: “…Is this actually a roller coaster?”
The first group of riders were mostly young couples. They chose their seats in order. A girl was particularly excited, pulling her boyfriend and saying: “Let’s sit in the front row! It’s more thrilling in the front!”
Her boyfriend was clearly a roller coaster enthusiast and immediately ran to the front.
Jiang Peifeng looked back at Ruan Jiyun, asking blankly: “Do you want to sit in the front too?”
The answer was the little white flower’s exceptionally bright eyes.
They followed the couple and sat in the second row. A staff member came over to help them fasten their seatbelts and reminded them: “Hold on tight. The curves can be a bit intense.”
Jiang Peifeng felt her palms getting sweaty: “Xiao Yun, aren’t you afraid?”
She had never ridden a roller coaster before. The dark tunnel, illuminated only by a few fluorescent lights, made the ride seem more tense than she had imagined. Could the little white flower truly enjoy this kind of ride?
Ruan Jiyun checked her seatbelt: “Actually, I haven’t ridden one either, but it looks like fun.”
Before she finished speaking, the “ding-a-ling” ready bell suddenly rang, followed by the roaring opening of the gate. The motorcycle seats whooshed forward.
A violent gust of wind slammed into them.
The girl in the front row screamed. It seemed like she was shouting something, but Jiang Peifeng couldn’t hear it anymore. She tightly gripped the handlebars, feeling like she had become a small boat tossed wildly in ocean waves.
Jiang Peifeng, who usually had excellent motor skills and self-control, only realized at this moment that she was being defeated by a roller coaster.
When the motorcycle team returned to the starting point, she was still a little dazed.
In sharp contrast to her reaction, Ruan Jiyun was clearly very excited. She reluctantly stepped off the seat, looking back as she walked: “That was so much fun…”
Jiang Peifeng still felt a bit lightheaded. She took two more steps forward and was suddenly pulled back.
The little white flower’s hands were surprisingly soft. She gripped Jiang Peifeng’s hand with both of hers like a caress, her thumb gently rubbing against Jiang Peifeng’s palm. Jiang Peifeng was a little stunned and turned to look at her.
Ruan Jiyun’s eyes sparkled. The changing lights at the tunnel entrance reflected in her eyes, giving her slightly upturned pupils a beautiful light blue hue, making her look innocent and childish: “Can we ride it one more time?”
Jiang Peifeng’s first reaction was no, but Ruan Jiyun’s eyes moved her.
In this world, she hadn’t seen the little white flower express desire for something that interested her like a true teenager in a long time. She looked at Jiang Peifeng with tender simplicity, trusting her wholeheartedly, making a request like any cherished girl.
Jiang Peifeng’s heart skipped a beat, immediately followed by an indescribable ache.
“Yes,” she heard herself say. “Whatever you want to ride, I’ll go with you.”
