The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 61
After Qin Huai finished speaking, she lowered her eyes to look at the notebook in her hand. Her hair had grown a lot longer since the start of the semester. The sunlight sprinkled on her dark hair, turning it into a light gold color. The sense of aloofness was thus lessened, making it easy for people to have a misconception. Perhaps it was this small misconception that made Han Yishuang feel momentarily lost, believing that no matter how strong the Omega in front of her was, she still ultimately needed an Alpha to protect her.
As Qin Huai’s words fell, Han Yishuang sat in her chair, her eyebrows slightly raised, her fingertips touching and resting on her chest, “My apologies.”
This apology drifted into Qin Huai’s ears with the sound of the wind, but the Omega did not say a single word, nor did her eyebrows move. She held the pen, diligently drawing on the paper, as if Han Yishuang’s words had not affected her at all.
“Senior Han, the Iced Americano you wanted.” Shen Zhi walked in with two cups of coffee. She placed one in front of Han Yishuang, then turned to the still lowered head of Qin Huai, her tone complicated, “Senior, this is the one you like.”
Wisps of steam diffused from the open cup, and the bitter, dry smell unique to coffee spread through the air.
No one was more familiar with this smell than Qin Huai. Once, when she was with Shen Zhi doing an experiment, the latter bought this coffee. Qin Huai only took a sip and asked a few more questions about it, and Shen Zhi remembered it until now. Qin Huai’s fingers gripping the pen tightened slightly. Looking at her own handwriting, it seemed utterly unfamiliar. “You drink it.”
Shen Zhi pushed the cup of coffee towards her with bent fingers. The Alpha’s fingers were fair and clean. When they moved into Qin Huai’s line of sight, she only blinked before noticing the faint lines on the back of the other’s hand.
Shen Zhi placed the coffee in front of Qin Huai and said, “You and Senior Han will definitely have a lot to discuss later. If you don’t drink this coffee now, just leave it there. Otherwise, you won’t have anything to drink if you get thirsty later.”
Shen Zhi’s words were as thoughtful as ever, as if the rift between the two had never happened. Qin Huai paused for half a second. Just as the sharp tip of her pen was about to pierce the thin white paper, she finally threw the pen down.
Shen Zhi wore her hair in a high ponytail today, her smooth forehead exposed. With the stray hairs around her temples scattered casually, she exuded a confident and sharp demeanor. Her neckline was clearly defined and beautiful, and the loose fitting crew neck T-shirt revealed a clean segment of her collarbone.
However, as Qin Huai looked over, the confident air that enveloped the Alpha suddenly vanished, replaced by a cautious look that made her unable to even speak.
Qin Huai’s lips moved, but the sharp words remained unsaid. Her gaze shifted to Han Yishuang, and she spoke faintly, “Let’s start.”
The experiment had just begun. As the person with the first-hand data, Qin Huai had already organized an initial framework. After briefly explaining the progress and current situation to Han Yishuang, she packed her things, ready to leave.
By the time the back and forth was over, it was nearly noon. Han Yishuang originally wanted to invite Qin Huai to have lunch together, but Qin Huai refused. The Alpha did not ask further, merely glancing at the empty spot next to Qin Huai, “Where is Shen Zhi?”
Qin Huai was putting her iPad into her bag. Hearing Han Yishuang’s question, she paused slightly and said, “I don’t know.”
Seeing that she was not interested in saying more, Han Yishuang did not press the issue, picking up her things and leaving first.
After Han Yishuang left, Qin Huai pulled a sausage from her bag and took a rarely-used path to the pavilion to check on the small kitten. After the mother cat died, Qin Huai found a place to bury her and set up a nest for the kitten in the corner of the pavilion using a cardboard box and some clothes. When she arrived, the kitten was licking the milk in its bowl.
Hearing the approaching footsteps, the kitten instinctively shrunk back at first. After clearly seeing who the person was, it lifted its small face and meowed at Qin Huai.
Qin Huai quietly squatted in front of the kitten, pressed her index fingertip on its head, and then removed it. Soon, a finger sized print appeared between the kitten’s ears. She lowered her eyes, watching the kitten lick the milk in peace, then took the sausage out of her bag and began to peel off the plastic wrapper.
The interaction between one cat and one person, if there was no talking, would quickly become silent if the cat meowed for too long.
Qin Huai placed the unwrapped sausage in front of the kitten’s mouth. Watching it take a bite, she muttered, “You are the obedient one.”
“Meow~”
After feeding the kitten, Qin Huai was ready to leave. The kitten seemed to sense she was going, and kept pawing at her pant leg. Qin Huai had no choice but to half squat on one leg, stroking the kitten’s head with her palm, “I really want to take you home, but pets are not allowed in the dorm.”
“Meow”
“Once I find a reliable new owner for you, you will have a home,” Qin Huai scratched the kitten’s pointed chin. “Then you won’t have to run around anymore.”
As soon as she finished speaking, footsteps approached from not far away, “How do you feel about me being its owner?”
The Alpha’s voice was clear and pleasant, ending with a slight, tentative question.
Qin Huai’s back stiffened, and she raised her eyes. Shen Zhi was walking towards her from not far from the lake. The corners of her mouth were slightly curled up, and her eyes rested calmly on Qin Huai. When she reached her side, she slowly squatted down, “Is that okay, Huai Huai?”
This was the first time Shen Zhi had called her by her nickname since they separated. Qin Huai lowered her head, her finger stroking the kitten’s fur.
“Poor little kitten, only able to wander around the school all alone, and not even able to eat clean food,” Shen Zhi said, pursing her lips, then clicked her tongue. “I’m sorry, little kitten. I shouldn’t have argued with mom and left a little cat like you homeless.”
“What nonsense are you talking about?” Qin Huai removed her hand from the kitten. “Who is its mother?”
“You and me,” Shen Zhi said frankly.
Strictly speaking, Qin Huai found this kitten. Before a new owner was found, Qin Huai could be considered the kitten’s owner, so calling her ‘mom’ was acceptable. But two mothers?
Qin Huai pursed her lips, her gaze shifting away from Shen Zhi’s eyes, “We’ve broken up. You shouldn’t think about things you shouldn’t.”
“I told you, we won’t break up.” Shen Zhi’s eyes closely followed hers. Wherever Qin Huai looked, her gaze shifted to, with a relentless air, “Huai Huai, if you like me, why don’t you dare to admit it?”
“What are you talking nonsense about?” Qin Huai was scorched by the intense gaze and accidentally sat down on the ground.
“You do like me.” Shen Zhi knelt on the ground, supporting herself with both hands to maintain balance. The kitten was acutely sensitive. Sensing the tense, ambiguous atmosphere between the two, it ran away, and the surroundings once again became quiet. Shen Zhi had a persistent air about her, “If you didn’t like me, why did you protect me in front of Han Yishuang?”
“I didn’t.”
“I heard everything.” Shen Zhi looked at the Omega, who had turned pale after being exposed, and still moved closer. When she noticed that Qin Huai was still restless and glancing around, she could only kiss the lips that were pressed together, “Our relationship is not yours to decide.”
The kiss lasted only a few seconds. Qin Huai quickly reacted, pushing the Alpha’s chest away, her face extremely displeased.
She stood up from the ground, slung her bag over her shoulder, and turned to leave without a word.
Shen Zhi, who had been pushed to the ground, was not angry. She looked up at the Omega’s slender back and started a new topic, “Don’t you want to know the progress of my investigation?”
Qin Huai stopped in her tracks.
The investigation Shen Zhi referred to was about the time Qin Huai saw her eating cake with another Omega at the cake shop.
“Kiss me first.” The Alpha factor in her blood was acting up. Shen Zhi slightly pursed her lips, revealing a dimple on one side, “Then I’ll tell you.”
As soon as her words fell, Qin Huai suddenly spun around, her eyes sharp as a drawn sword, stabbing hard at her, “I must be sick.”
After Qin Huai left, only Shen Zhi remained sitting there. She watched that figure for as long as it took, until she could no longer see it. Only then did she relax her strength, collapsing onto the ground, her eyes slightly despondent.
A tiny meow sounded from the bushes.
Shen Zhi looked up. The kitten’s orange fur shone with a soft glow in the sunlight, and its eyes were staring straight at her. Shen Zhi crooked her finger and beckoned the kitten, so the kitten ran back to her.
“Do you think I should tell her about it?” Shen Zhi looked troubled. “She already has a bad relationship with her father. I’m afraid that if I say too much, she will be sad.”
How could a kitten speak? It could only “meow” in the air.
Shen Zhi sighed deeply. The mischievousness in her eyes completely faded, leaving only a never-before-seen seriousness.
Once someone joins the experiment, the progress is bound to accelerate. In just one day, Qin Huai had already found the source of her problem. In the evening, Qin Huai packed her things early, preparing to feed the cat.
She had just left the teaching building and realized she was out of sausages. As she turned to go to the supermarket to buy a few, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang.
“Don’t be nervous, we’re just conducting a simple inquiry.”
Qin Huai looked at the two police officers sitting across from her. Her beautiful eyebrows slightly furrowed, but her eyes showed no panic. She nodded to signal that she would cooperate.
“Hao Yan, she is your classmate, right?” the short-haired Omega police officer asked. “Do you have any recent news of her?”
Hearing the name again, Qin Huai was stunned for a second, “No, I haven’t seen her for a long time. The school said she went home, I don’t know anything else. Did something happen to her?”
“Think carefully, when was the last time you saw her?” the female officer did not answer her question, but instead asked a new one.
“The last time I saw her was in the lab. She tied me up, and before I passed out, I vaguely heard her say she wanted my pheromones.” Too much time had passed. Qin Huai could only manage to recall some vague things.
The police saw that she couldn’t answer anything, and one of the Alpha officers walked out. About ten minutes later, the Omega officer’s phone rang, followed by low-pitched speaking. After the call ended, the Omega officer allowed Qin Huai to leave.
From the moment she arrived until now, Qin Huai was still a bit confused. Her mind was blank. When she sat on a chair outside the police station, she still hadn’t fully reacted.
It was around ten o’clock now, and there were still quite a few people standing outside the police station. One Alpha man seemed to want to say something to the police, clutching the officer’s arm, hunching his back, his posture extremely humble.
When Qin Huai walked out of the police station entrance, the group of people had become two—a man and a woman sitting at the entrance, around fifty years old, with a lot of white hair.
Hearing the sound, the two looked up in unison. Qin Huai noticed their swollen eyes and sagging eye bags. Their clothes were not clean, but these were not the most important things. The most important thing was that after the couple saw Qin Huai’s face, the joy in their eyes vanished completely, and their expression reverted to their initial disappointment.
Qin Huai used an app to call a car, setting the location at the police station entrance. As she watched the approaching car on her phone screen, she clicked back to Shen Zhi’s WeChat, which she had recently re-added, planning to ask about the kitten’s situation, when the couple behind her suddenly spoke.
“It’s too late. You’re not well. Let’s go back to the hotel first.”
“I won’t be able to sleep even if I go back. Every time I close my eyes, I think of Yan Yan,” the female Omega’s voice was slightly choked when she spoke. “My Yan Yan was so young, how could she just be gone?”
Qin Huai froze in place for a long time, unable to react for a moment.
