The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 59
Before saying those words, Qin Huai had been silently practicing in her mind how to say them without losing her composure, but only after she finished speaking did she realize that no matter how much she practiced, the invisible pressure on her shoulders only truly disappeared when the words were actually spoken.
The warmth of the alpha’s cheek was still on her fingertips. Qin Huai rubbed her fingers, trying to extinguish the burning heat. After Shen Zhi heard Qin Huai’s words, she first froze, then a thin layer of a smile appeared at the corner of her mouth, and she denied, “Huaihuai, what kind of joke are you making? This joke isn’t funny at all.”
“I’m not joking.” Since it was already said, there was no need to hide the rest. Qin Huai lowered her eyes, maintaining her indifferent demeanor, “We were never together to begin with, wasn’t breaking up bound to happen sooner or later?”
“I’ll pack up the things here and take them back to school in a bit. Anything I can’t take, I’ll throw in the trash can downstairs, but there shouldn’t be anything I can’t take.” Qin Huai retracted her gaze, picked up the white T-shirt from the floor, and put it on. Her tone was no different from usual, as if she were describing a chemical formula with such ease.
She finished dressing, bare footed, and walked to the bedroom wardrobe, starting to pack her things. After she had finished speaking, Shen Zhi remained kneeling blankly on the bed, staring straight ahead, as if trying to bore a hole into the blank wall.
As the pure white, minimalist wardrobe was opened, a clear, sweet scent of orange assailed Qin Huai. The wardrobe was filled with clothes hanging in a row, most of which belonged to Shen Zhi. Because Qin Huai didn’t often stay here, the wardrobe only contained some spare clothes, but even those were neatly hung on the shelves by the room’s owner.
Qin Huai took a deep breath, one hand steadying the wardrobe door, the other hand sorting through the clothes inside. Every item she found belonging to herself was tossed onto the bed.
By this time, Shen Zhi finally realized that Qin Huai wasn’t just talking. She crawled toward Qin Huai, and as the other person, with her back to her, picked up the last piece of clothing, she straightened her back and hugged Qin Huai’s waist from behind.
“Sister, you don’t want me anymore?” The alpha’s usually clear voice held a slight sob. She pressed the side of her face against Qin Huai’s back, her arms embracing the other’s slender waist. “You said we would be together forever.”
Qin Huai’s nails dug into the cabinet door so hard they almost broke. The arms around her waist tightened, trying to use this action to tie down the person in front of her, preventing any possibility of escape. Qin Huai looked down at her abdomen. Shen Zhi’s hands were tightly clasped together, her fingertips reddening from the force. She was like a stubborn child, only able to use this petulant method to try and hold on.
“Be good, let go.” Qin Huai tilted her head back, her hands hanging down by the seams of her trousers, her fingers slightly flexed as she patiently coaxed her, “Don’t throw a childish tantrum.”
“But if I let go, you’ll leave and never come back for me. I’ll be like Lin Qiu, only able to watch you appear with your next girlfriend holding hands, and I won’t even have the right to ask a single question.” Recalling Qin Huai’s encounter with Lin Qiu, Shen Zhi felt a pang of fear.
No one understood Qin Huai better than she did. Once Qin Huai decided to give up on a matter or a person, she wouldn’t look back, no matter how great the future benefit. She remembered Qin Huai’s attitude toward Lin Qiu that look of disgust and the “get lost” in her eyes was obvious. She was afraid that once she let go, everything would change.
She had liked her for so long, watched her back for so long, and now that she was finally standing in front of her, she absolutely couldn’t be easily erased.
“But you don’t have the right to ask now either.” Qin Huai spoke in a low, even tone, yet her words were extremely cruel. “We have only ever had a physical relationship. You wouldn’t be so naive as to think this kind of relationship is the same as dating. You’re still young; you won’t like an omega for a lifetime. You’ll forget quickly and find another omega.”
“No, I won’t,” Shen Zhi denied, her eyes red. “All those other omegas aren’t Qin Huai, and I only like Qin Huai.”
Since childhood, very few people had ever said the words ‘I like you’ to Qin Huai. Her parents hadn’t, her grandparents hadn’t. For her, these four words had always been difficult to say, but every time Shen Zhi said them to her, although she didn’t believe it in her heart, her ears were still willing to listen.
But today, she suddenly realized that she had always taken the word ‘like’ too seriously. The ‘like’ in her mind was a love of mutual necessity, but it wasn’t until she saw Shen Zhi eating cake with another omega at a cake shop that she felt ‘like’ wasn’t such a sacred word after all.
I like you, but it doesn’t stop me from getting closer to others.
“Enough,” Qin Huai closed her eyes. All the complex emotions in her eyes disappeared with this action. The air was silent for a few seconds, the sound of the light drizzle outside becoming exceptionally clear. When she spoke again, Qin Huai finally chose to be frank, “I saw you today.”
“What?” Shen Zhi froze.
“Since you insist on arguing about this unhealthy relationship, let’s talk about it properly today.” Qin Huai’s voice was a bit rough when she spoke. “I saw you at the cake shop today. I remember telling you that there couldn’t be a third person between us, and if there were, you just needed to say so, and I would leave myself. But what about now?”
Qin Huai frowned, a look of disbelief passing through her eyes, and she sneered, “Sure enough, no alpha is obedient.”
“Huaihuai, listen to my explanation.” Shen Zhi grasped at a straw like a drowning person, hoping Qin Huai would give her a chance. “Her father was the security guard at your mother’s lab back then. I was looking for her hoping to find out about that incident through her. I’ve found a lead, Qin Huai, just wait for me a little longer.”
So that was it. Qin Huai instantly seemed to lose her ability to perceive things. Her mind was fuzzy, only vaguely remembering the unexpected phone call when they were intimate that day.
Young alphas always like to use this kind of method to solve problems, even though the problem itself isn’t that complicated.
Qin Huai tilted her head back, her neck muscles taut with effort, forming a strained curve. Shen Zhi raised her face, resting her chin between Qin Huai’s vertebrae. In front of her were those two distinct shoulder blades. Covered by the white cloth, those shoulder blades looked extremely fragile, as if they could easily shatter with a moment’s carelessness.
Shen Zhi only felt a pair of hands covering her own. Those hands were cool but delicate, and when the fingertips slid across her skin, it gave her a feeling that there was still a chance. A look of joy flashed across Shen Zhi’s face, thinking Qin Huai had listened to her and was preparing to press on, but those cold hands instead peeled her fingers away one by one.
“Shen Zhi, you’re truly naive.” Qin Huai’s brows were tightly locked together, her eyes feeling dry. “Dare you admit you weren’t using this matter to force me? Why didn’t you tell me when I asked who it was while we were intimate that day?”
“Huaihuai, I.. ” Shen Zhi’s voice was slightly choked, like a kite string suspended in the air.
“Fine, I’ll temporarily believe you. But what about ‘fake intimacy turning into real affection’ later? If you really fall for her, what about me? What do I count for?” Even when Qin Huai got angry, she was not frantic, speaking as if she were simply stating a problem in her area of expertise.
The alpha pheromones on her were tightly enveloping her. The faint pain in the gland behind her neck reminded her that she had been marked by this alpha. A marked omega would develop a sense of dependence on their alpha, but to Qin Huai, these emotions were useless. She suddenly remembered the stray cat that had died this afternoon and felt as if she had fallen into a strange trap.
What is love? What is physical desire?
Even though they differ by one word, there is a huge difference between them.
Does she like Shen Zhi? She doesn’t know.
Does she like being intimate with Shen Zhi? She does.
But what distinguishes humans from animals is the ability to think rationally when desire arises. Love cannot be eaten as food, and neither can physical desire.
“Shen Zhi, we both need to calm down.” Qin Huai finished the rest of her sentence with her eyes closed.
It was raining outside. Qin Huai walked out of the residential area, carrying a plastic bag full of clothes. The weather wasn’t exactly cold, but when the wind blew and the rain fell, the icy molecules in the air still stimulated the skin.
“Sister, wait for me.” The alpha’s voice came from behind.
Qin Huai’s steps paused slightly, then she continued walking forward.
“Let me take you back. The rain is heavy today, be careful not to catch a cold.” Shen Zhi ran over, holding a black long handled umbrella.
Qin Huai ignored the alpha behind her, just following the streetlights forward. As the alpha spoke incessantly, her steps grew faster and faster.
“You have an experiment tomorrow, and if you catch a cold, you’ll have to take time off to go to the hospital. Today, you got angry because of me and didn’t blow dry your hair. You hate going to the hospital so much, so you still need to take good care of yourself.” Shen Zhi walked by Qin Huai’s side, tilting the umbrella in her hand over Qin Huai’s head, and extending her other hand to take the bag from Qin Huai, “Let me carry this for you, it’s too heavy.”
The old residential area became particularly deserted at night. The window of the security office by the gate was half-open, and the middle aged alpha inside was dozing with his hand propping up his face.
Qin Huai snatched her things back from Shen Zhi’s hand, turned to look at the alpha beside her. Her eyes were dark, showing no emotion. “What exactly do you want?”
“I just want to walk you part of the way.” Shen Zhi, dressed in sleepwear, had messy long hair, and her exposed skin was even wet with raindrops.
“Did you forget what I just said?” Qin Huai asked.
The light from the street lamp illuminated a small area. Muddy puddles dotted the stone path at intervals, and fallen leaves drifted with the wind, barely stopping on the puddles.
Shen Zhi’s hair on both sides of her face was blown by the wind, revealing a face with defined features. Her looks were already striking, and the dim environment did not lessen the impact of her facial features.
She looked straight at Qin Huai, without blinking, her face calm as if everything that had just happened had never occurred, and she stated with certainty: “We won’t break up.”
“We will,” Qin Huai’s answer was equally certain.
“No, we won’t.”
“Yes, we will.”
