The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 16
The newly acquired experimental data differed significantly from the old data, necessitating a rewrite of the drafted thesis. Qin Huai blocked out external distractions and immersed herself in the library for two consecutive days over the weekend, finally completing the rough draft on Sunday night. This was considered partial completion of her planned work.
The weather in March was still unstable. For several consecutive days, the sun set early in the afternoon, causing the temperature to drop sharply, and the wind gently swayed the branches of the trees on both sides of the road.
After leaving the library, Qin Huai was planning to buy dinner at the cafeteria. She originally intended to dine in, but considering the erratic weather over the past few days, she ultimately bundled up in her thick knit cardigan and chose to buy food to take back to her dorm.
Her roommate was also in the dorm that afternoon, so Qin Huai conveniently brought back an extra meal. Pushing the door open, she saw her roommate frantically revising something on her computer at her desk. She placed the food on the desk, unslung her backpack, and said, “Brought this for you. Eat it while it’s hot.”
Liu Nian had been delayed in returning to school due to family matters and now owed her advisor a stack of assignments. She was catching up on her research so intensely that she had developed dark circles and her weight had plummeted. Seeing a box of food placed on her desk, she nearly burst into tears and said, “Huai Huai, you’re too good. Why am I not an Alpha?”
Qin Huai’s desk was always pristine, with textbooks neatly organized on the shelf above the desk, and commonly used tissues and wet wipes tidily stacked in the drawer. She hung her backpack on the back of the chair, took out a tissue to wipe away non-existent bacteria from between her fingers, and looked up with a hint of confusion when she heard Liu Nian’s words, signaling her to continue.
Liu Nian adored this side of Qin Huai. Omegas came in many types; some liked to openly display their cuteness, others liked to subtly conceal their cuteness through their actions, but Qin Huai was different. Qin Huai was the type who was unaware of her own cuteness and often displayed an adorable expression.
Just like now, she was wearing a light gray knit sweater, her long hair draped over her shoulders. Her brows were slightly furrowed because she didn’t understand Liu Nian’s words, creating a visible ridge of muscle about the length of a knuckle above her brow, and her eyes held a quizzical look of incomprehension.
Liu Nian got up from her seat, cupped Qin Huai’s cheeks with both hands, and giggled, “Such an attractive look. Why don’t you just humble yourself and submit to me?”
Qin Huai: “…”
Qin Huai’s expression at that moment was like a dark line floating above her head. It was a look of ‘I don’t understand, but I can’t be bothered to care’ aloofness. She gently pulled her face away from Liu Nian’s hands and went back to her own business.
“Oh,” Liu Nian had finally found an opportunity to tease Qin Huai and had completely abandoned her usual composure, continuing to ask, “I forgot, hasn’t Shen Zhi been looking for you a lot lately? Maybe you can introduce us sometime.”
Qin Huai was untying the plastic bag around her meal box. Whether it was wrapped too many times around her fingers or the owner had deliberately tied a knot, it was proving difficult to undo. With Liu Nian’s annoying voice still in her ear, she decided to tear the bag open with force, her tone slightly impatient: “Why are you asking about her?”
Liu Nian’s eyes widened at her tone.
The plastic bag was finally undone, but Qin Huai’s expression didn’t relax. She turned to look at Liu Nian next to her and contemplated for a moment before saying, “Shen Zhi is quite nice. She hasn’t been in a relationship and doesn’t have any complicated relationship history. She told me all this herself.”
Liu Nian perked up her ears, waiting for her to continue.
Qin Huai, as expected, was frank and direct: “As for the rumors about her and me online, they are false. If you like her, you can pursue her.”
Liu Nian: “???”
Qin Huai: “But you need to be fast. I think she seems quite popular.”
After saying this, Qin Huai nodded emphatically to reinforce her statement, leaving Liu Nian dumbfounded. After about thirty seconds, Liu Nian placed a hand on Qin Huai’s shoulder, in a manner resembling someone walking in a dark haunted house with a hand suddenly resting on their shoulder. In short, Liu Nian was utterly confused and asked, “Do you seriously not know what it means when an Alpha tells an Omega their relationship history?”
Qin Huai snapped apart her disposable chopsticks and rubbed off the splinters. Her response was that of a classic clueless Omega: “No, too lazy to know.”
Liu Nian: “???”
Qin Huai: “Right now, I only want to know how to finish my thesis and complete my experiments. That’s more practical.”
“You’re truly hopeless,” Liu Nian muttered blankly before walking back to her desk to eat.
The chirping noise in her ear finally ceased, and Qin Huai briefly enjoyed a moment of peace. The sports meet was scheduled for March. Although the freshman counselor had instructed class presidents to organize the registration forms and submit them to the assistant upperclassman, Qin Huai hadn’t received a single one yet. Now that she had a moment, she finally checked the WeChat group messages she had muted.
The three class presidents had been trying everything to recruit participants every day. Most events already had confirmed personnel, leaving only the 3000-meter long-distance run without any takers.
However, that statement wasn’t entirely accurate. Qin Huai shoved a mouthful of rice into her mouth and saw two strikingly familiar characters Shen Zhi.
The chopsticks remained clamped between her teeth, and Qin Huai’s eyes narrowed slightly as she stared at the two characters, lost in thought. She recalled what the owner of those two characters had said at the hospital.
“Senior, can you give me one day?”
“I want to give you a surprise.”
Qin Huai clicked her tongue, removing the chopsticks from her lips, and mumbled, “So secretive.”
Qin Huai exited the participant list, briefly urged people in the group chat, and prepared to finish her dinner and then take a shower. No sooner had she placed her phone face down on the desk than a notification sound chimed.
The message wasn’t from anyone else but the only Alpha who had just signed up for the 3000-meter run.
[Shen Zhi: Senior, come to the track.]
Qin Huai frowned and glanced out the window. The sky was overcast, and the tree branches, as tall as the dorm building, were swaying in the wind, looking like rain was imminent. She didn’t want to get caught in the rain, so she typed a quick ‘no’ and continued eating.
But the other person was persistent.
[Shen Zhi: The wind outside is so comfortable, and there are so many people at the track, it’s fun.]
[Qin Huai: Not going.]
[Shen Zhi: Senior, running alone is so boring.]
After this, Shen Zhi followed up with a crying kitten emoji, looking pathetic.
After a moment, Qin Huai quickly finished a few more bites of rice, grabbed a tissue to wipe her lips, and picked up her jacket as she walked towards the door. Liu Nian was still looking up information while eating; a few drops of oil had even stained the computer keyboard. Seeing Qin Huai push the door open, she instinctively asked, “It’s about to rain, where are you going?”
“Going for a walk, I ate too much.” Qin Huai reached the door, placed her fingers on the handle, and her usually cold lips lightly uttered these words. With that, she pushed the door open and left.
Liu Nian watched the door creak as it closed, then looked at the half-eaten and unopened meal box on Qin Huai’s desk and clicked her tongue.
