The White Moonlight Omega Has Amnesia and Always Tries to Seduce Me - Chapter 15
A wall separated the clamor and human warmth outside from the tense standoff between the two inside.
Since her hands were bound and she couldn’t break free, Qin Huai simply gave up any futile resistance. In the dim environment, her eyes were like a blade about to be sharpened, its edge carrying a bone chilling coldness. “Does it concern you? Do you think you can call the shots for me just because you’ve helped me a few times?”
Qin Huai’s chin lifted slightly, the line of her neck taut within her hoodie, half her collarbone clearly visible but submerged within. She usually spoke slowly and deliberately, never aggressive even when aloof and indifferent. But at this moment, she resembled a kitten whose tail had been stepped on, her claws sharp and ready to scratch.
Shen Zhi watched, her heart clenched, a lump of air stuck in her chest, neither able to escape nor descend, feeling as if she were about to be hanged.
She wanted to step forward and stroke the kitten’s back, to tell her that wasn’t what she meant, not caring if she were scratched bloody. But the kitten was terrifyingly alert, circling away whenever she approached, leaving her with nowhere to even start to soothe.
Frustrated, she had no choice but to rein in her surrounding aggression and use the most primal method of appeasement.
The Alpha took a helpless step back, the sense of oppression suddenly vanishing. The lingering scent of unburnt tobacco in the air gradually rekindled.
Qin Huai’s taut nerves slowly relaxed as Shen Zhi retreated. She just watched as the Alpha, who had taken a step back, lifted her fragile eyelids, her gaze lowered with an unnameable look of grievance.
In that moment, Qin Huai’s heart felt as if it had fallen into the dust.
The Alpha’s tone was gentle, her voice low and husky, offering all her patience as she said, “Senior, stop acting up. Your health is important. How about we go get the check-up first?”
This gentle tone was something no one had ever whispered in Qin Huai’s ear before. The speaker had no ulterior motive, only a complete sincerity.
The Omega was silent for a long while, her lips pursed, whether in repression or because she truly didn’t know what to say. Her expression was crumpled, looking incredibly wronged.
“Don’t be afraid.” Shen Zhi interpreted the silence as a tacit consent, her grip on Qin Huai’s wrist just right in its measure. “I’ll be with you.”
Then, without allowing a refusal, she pulled Qin Huai to the staircase door. The lively atmosphere and warm air rushed over them, and the light clustered at the door seam finally, generously, shone in.
Qin Huai allowed the Alpha in front of her to pull her toward the brightest light.
The examination room was on the second floor, requiring them to take the elevator down. There weren’t many people in the elevator lobby, mostly two or three people standing together.
Using the time while waiting for the elevator, Shen Zhi glanced at Qin Huai’s empty hand and asked, “Did the doctor give you the examination request form?”
Qin Huai shook her head. She had rushed out today. Opening the hotel room could be done by vaguely using Shen Zhi’s ID, but now the doctor would have to enter the order into the computer first. “We can wait directly at the examination room door.”
Shen Zhi hummed and nodded, waiting for the elevator to arrive.
Waiting time was the most tedious. Most people, whether familiar or not, would start chatting as long as they came out of the same department. Only the two of them fell into silence after Shen Zhi’s remark, standing out conspicuously in the lively and familiar atmosphere.
It was Qin Huai who reacted first. The Alpha’s body temperature was high, she wore little clothing, and her palm was warm. Her wrist was already clammy from the heat of that palm, and she restlessly wanted to pull away. But her movements were too small. To explicitly ask felt too ungrateful, so she could only submit to being dragged by the wrist like a child by the younger Alpha.
Finally, the elevator arrived. Qin Huai sighed in relief and took the lead, stepping forward first, entering without any buffer, unethically disregarding respect for elders and care for the young.
She walked quickly, making it natural for Shen Zhi to let go.
The Alpha looked at the Omega, who was huddled like a quail in the corner of the elevator, subconsciously rubbed her thumb, and then stepped inside.
The long bench opposite the second-floor examination department was filled with people. The two nurses at the station wore polite smiles, and above their heads, a screen scrolled the names of the Omegas being called.
Since Qin Huai was an add-on, arranged by the department doctor, she could go straight in for the check-up without spending time waiting in line.
Shen Zhi originally wanted to escort Qin Huai directly into the room, but the Omega refused at the door. The only queue that was empty was the one for the scent gland examination. Qin Huai pushed open the heavy door handle and went in.
The department doctor had already contacted the examination room doctor. After Qin Huai entered, she only had a brief name verification before heading to the instrument.
She had done this type of examination frequently since her incomplete glandular development was diagnosed. The cold instrument touching her warm skin had long since ceased to feel anything to her.
But for some reason, only today did she realize that her blood was still capable of sensing temperature.
Just the thought of someone waiting for her at the door made her mood uncontrollably brighten.
The examination was quick. The doctor glanced at the computer twice and said, “No issues. Come back on Wednesday for the results.”
Scent gland examinations required extreme precision, as any carelessness could lead to a lifelong tragedy for an Omega. Moreover, today was Friday, and the examination room was closed on Saturday and Sunday. Qin Huai had no complaints about the late results, offered a simple thank you, and left.
Exiting the long corridor of the examination room, Qin Huai glanced around, trying to find Shen Zhi. Finally, she spotted her in the corner near the window.
The Alpha was standing sideways in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, one side of her body leaning against the stainless-steel guardrail, her posture relaxed and comfortable.
Qin Huai was about to go over, but as the Alpha looked her way, she happened to notice the phone by the other’s ear and a smile more dazzling than the sunlight outside, and she frowned imperceptibly.
It was a movement so slight that she herself didn’t even notice it.
She didn’t rush over, standing on the small path outside the examination room door, but her eyes never left the Alpha.
Since she had differentiated, for whatever reason, she had met many Alphas. But rarely had she seen one like Shen Zhi…
Qin Huai struggled for a suitable adjective. People are inherently multifaceted, and the longer the acquaintance, the harder they are to describe. The only certainty was that the Alpha must have had a very happy childhood; only children raised in love would possess the courage to face all setbacks alone without flinching.
Qin Huai watched until the Alpha hung up the phone and shifted her gaze away first, casually finding an empty spot to stare into space.
Her action was quick but not traceless. Shen Zhi smiled, but didn’t expose her, asking, “What did the doctor say?”
Qin Huai then appeared to just notice her, her eyes carrying a hint of surprise, though her gaze was so calm that the surprise was almost undetectable, “The results aren’t out yet.”
Shen Zhi acknowledged this with an “oh” and nodded, then asked casually, “Senior, do you still remember that you owe me a favor?”
The favor the Alpha mentioned was for helping to take photos of the person during Qin Huai’s busy experimental period, as well as the Alpha’s care during her two heats. But she remembered that favor had already been used by the Alpha on the running-together request. Favors can’t multiply through cell division, so how could there be more?
Qin Huai looked at her suspiciously and reminded her, “Did you forget?”
“Running together? I take that back.” Even though Qin Huai’s words were brief, Shen Zhi immediately understood. She curved her eyes, revealing shallow dimples on her cheeks, completely lacking the aggression she had displayed earlier in the stairwell. “Senior, will you give me one day?”
