- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 7 - Entangled by a Loyal Dog Alpha!
Bai Yifeng’s face was flushed crimson as he leaned limply against the wardrobe, his eyes vacant and unfocused. Fang Xu was startled and rushed forward, scooping him up and pulling him onto his lap. “Brother Feng, wake up!”
Fang Xu had previously given Bai Yifeng a temporary mark. Because of Fang Xu’s extraordinary constitution, the symptoms of the standard dependency reaction had intensified.
A dependency reaction typically occurs within the first week after an Alpha marks an Omega. Its duration is unstable, and the Omega may experience a pseudo-heat. This period is often considered the best time for a couple to deepen their emotional bond, commonly referred to as the “honeymoon phase.”
Conversely, if the marker moves too far away from the marked individual after the process, side effects occur.
Fang Xu had initially assumed that since Bai Yifeng was not an Omega, the dependency reaction would not be so pronounced; he had not expected it to be this severe.
Seeing that Bai Yifeng was unable to regain consciousness, Fang Xu steeled his resolve. He bit the tip of his finger and fed a few drops of his blood to Bai Yifeng. Under the glow of the dressing room’s spotlights, his blood actually shimmered with a golden light.
The golden blood slid past Bai Yifeng’s lips. Fearing he would not be able to swallow, Fang Xu manually tilted his jaw up and down to help him gulp it down.
Bai Yifeng’s complexion gradually returned to normal, yet his eyes still could not find a focal point. Fang Xu realized he was trapped in a dream. He lowered his head, pressing his forehead against Bai Yifeng’s, attempting to probe the nature of the dream. First, he saw the familiar snowy plains, followed by a Beta lying submissively beneath the body of a dragon.
Fang Xu’s expression shifted. Why would Bai Yifeng dream of his dragon form? And that kind of dream, what exactly was going on?
“Brother Feng, please wake up, okay?” Fang Xu held him tight, apologizing repeatedly. “I was wrong. Please wake up and look at me.”
No matter how much he called out, Bai Yifeng remained the same. His vital signs were stable, but he lacked consciousness. Gritting his teeth, Fang Xu made a decision. He pulled up a rarely used contact on his brain-computer and dialed.
The person on the other end picked up quickly but was cut off by Fang Xu before they could speak. “Come to my place right now. Use your fastest speed.”
“Second Young Master, unless it is absolutely necessary, I am not permitted to leave the ancestral home. Please state”
“I have awakened the Secret Covenant.” Fang Xu closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, half of his worry had transformed into cold, ruthless composure. “By the rules of the Fang family, the one with the Secret Covenant is your master.”
The person on the other end seemed too shocked by the news to speak. Fang Xu followed up immediately. “Hurry. I have marked Brother Feng, and his current state is not right. Louis, get here as fast as you can. I need your help.”
Louis hung up immediately. Fang Xu let out a sigh of relief. The Fang family’s secrets were buried deep. Rumors suggested that both he and his elder brother, Fang Yang, carried mysterious dragon blood, yet everyone assumed Fang Yang, the head of the household, was the true successor.
No one knew, not even Fang Yang, that Fang Xu was the only one who had truly inherited the dragon blood.
He was the Imperial Star’s secret weapon, an unknown giant dragon. Consequently, Fang Xu had no idea how his mark would affect Bai Yifeng. As the butler who oversaw everything for the Fang family, Louis certainly knew more than he did.
Time ticked by. Fang Xu remained by Bai Yifeng’s side, not even daring to move the man in his arms for fear of an accident. Fortunately, Louis arrived quickly, bursting through the door twenty minutes later. Fang Xu’s pheromones were radiating completely out of control, so Louis did not need to search room by room; he headed straight for the dressing room.
Seeing the chaos, Louis understood the situation without needing an explanation. He stepped forward, nudging Fang Xu aside slightly to check Bai Yifeng’s breathing. He let out a breath of relief. “It is fine. He will wake up soon.”
“Really?” Fang Xu exhaled deeply. Under Louis’s direction, he moved Bai Yifeng to the bedroom. Once he saw the man’s eyes close as if falling into a peaceful sleep, Louis tucked him in. He then turned to Fang Xu with a stern expression. “Second Young Master, regardless of the circumstances, you went too far. You know exactly what happens when you leave someone who has just been marked.”
“I did not expect this; it was only a temporary mark.” Fang Xu ran a hand through his hair in frustration, sitting down beside Bai Yifeng. “I had no choice but to leave. The military issued an order to start the war. I rushed back overnight as soon as it ended, only to find Brother Feng like this.”
Louis hesitated. It sounded like Fang Xu was indeed blameless, yet he was also the cause. If he had not marked Bai Yifeng, none of this would have happened.
“What will happen to him now?” Fang Xu turned to look at the sleeping Bai Yifeng.
Louis considered his words. “Aside from the formation of the mark, there will be no changes. He is still a Beta and will not be overly influenced by your pheromones.”
“That is good.” Fang Xu shifted his posture, crouching by the bed and tightly gripping Bai Yifeng’s hand.
Louis hesitated again. “Second Young Master, the Secret Covenant”
“It is real. I have no reason to lie about such a thing just to coerce you into saving someone.” Fang Xu released his dragon tail to show him. Louis stared at the powerful, silver-white tail, tipped with a razor-sharp, blade-like barb. He took a deep breath and knelt reverently on one knee before Fang Xu.
Fang Xu was about to tell him that such gestures were unnecessary, that he was not the type to demand pedantic displays of loyalty, when he heard a muffled groan. Then came Bai Yifeng’s weak question. “Why is Louis here?”
Both were startled. Fang Xu lunged forward in delight. “Brother Feng, Brother Feng! You are finally awake!”
Louis stood up nonchalantly, not forgetting to smooth the hem of his tailcoat. Watching Fang Xu pounce on Bai Yifeng while wagging his dragon tail like a puppy, Louis’s brow twitched violently.
Bai Yifeng blinked with effort, his gaze shifting from the upright Louis to Fang Xu’s unignorable face. “You, you are back?”
Before Fang Xu could nod, he heard Bai Yifeng say: “I think I dreamed, that you did me all night”
Fang Xu: “…”
“You little heartless thing, even in my dreams you are wearing me out.” After dropping that line, Bai Yifeng closed his eyes again. “My waist hurts.”
“I will massage it for you!” Fang Xu bounced up, leaning in close. He pulled back the quilt and lifted the hem of Bai Yifeng’s shirt, skillfully kneading the man’s waist. He did not forget to ask about the experience. “Brother Feng, is this pressure okay?”
Louis: “…”
His new master seemed a bit too energetic.
“So, the dragon in my dream was you?”
Two hours later, Bai Yifeng watched as Fang Xu sent Louis away, demanding a guarantee that the Secret Covenant would never be revealed to a third party. By now, Bai Yifeng had been helped through a shower by Fang Xu and, after some half-hearted resistance, had been treated with medicine. Wrapped in a soft blanket and sitting on a cushion, he listened to Fang Xu explain the sequence of events.
Fang Xu nodded, his face flushing red for some reason. Bai Yifeng found it a bit jarring; a guy this big acting all shy and blushing.
“Perhaps it was because I missed you too much, Brother Feng, which caused you to have that kind of dream. I am sorry.” Fang Xu knelt before him. Although Bai Yifeng had emphasized three times that he did not need an apology, since the whole thing started because he was unlucky enough to get drugged, Fang Xu insisted. “I caused you so much suffering. I will not let it happen again.”
“I assume you mean you will not try to mark me again?”
“I mean, after marking you in the future, I will never leave you alone,” Fang Xu promised. “I will stay by your side with total devotion until you say you do not need me.”
Bai Yifeng: “…”
This Alpha had seemingly latched onto him.
“I will not stay here forever,” Bai Yifeng said bluntly. “I have said it before: I do not want anything to do with anyone from the Fang family. I am only staying here temporarily.”
And waiting for his divorce settlement.
He had checked; divorce settlements usually arrived within a week. It was still within that timeframe, so Bai Yifeng was waiting to strike it rich.
“I am not a human,” Fang Xu said seriously. “Brother Feng, do not look at me like that. I really am not human.”
“I know you are not human,” Bai Yifeng thought. In that dream, you were incredibly fierce, like a perpetual motion machine that would not stop until I was dead. How could that be human?
Bai Yifeng sighed. “We really are not a good match. I am so much older than you. Your feelings for me might just be a junior’s dependency on a senior, and my feelings for you are simply a senior’s appreciation and affection for a junior”
“Brother Feng, we are of the same generation,” Fang Xu interjected. Bai Yifeng paused, then chose to finish his thought. “Perhaps I gave you hope when you were at your lowest, but that is just the Suspension Bridge Effect. You are just depending on me. Wait, why are you pulling my pants down? Let go!”
Fang Xu pulled Bai Yifeng toward him, tugging his pants halfway down in a few quick motions. “I am checking to see if the ointment has been absorbed”
“Fang Xu! I am being serious!” Bai Yifeng pushed him away, trying to keep his composure. To him, Fang Xu’s age made him seem no different from a college student who had just entered society; he could not get over that mental hurdle to accept his feelings.
He still wanted to live a solitary life.
Fang Xu let go, watching the elastic waistband of Bai Yifeng’s pants snap back into place. He slowly sat up straight. “Brother Feng, I am also being serious. You might not believe it, but even before you married my brother, I already had thoughts of wanting you for myself.”
Bai Yifeng was completely stunned. He had not expected Fang Xu to say this. Yet, he could not tell Fang Xu that he was not the “Bai Yifeng” he loved; he was just himself.
“After you married my brother, you became a completely different person. I did not like that version of you.” Fang Xu took his hand, interlacing their fingers, and said in a low voice. “But when you proposed the divorce, I realized the old you had come back.”
Bai Yifeng’s pupils shrank. As it turned out, he was the “White Moonlight” returnee for Fang Xu!
Everything he had just said felt like a slap to his own face. Forget seniors and juniors, forget appreciation and affection; from the very beginning, Fang Xu’s feelings for him had been pure, possessive love.
“But”
“And Brother Feng, you cannot leave me now.” Fang Xu lowered his head, his voice deep. “I am sorry. My constitution, it seems I can mark anyone, including Betas.”
Bai Yifeng: “…”
F*ck.
