- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 8 - What’s So Bad About Choosing to Accept?!
“Hurry up and bite me.”
This was the fourth day since Bai Yifeng had chosen to accept reality. The first three days had passed without incident; he and Fang Xu lived like roommates. Even though they slept together at night, there were no out-of-line actions. Bai Yifeng didn’t really care; his years of living like a corporate slave had made him invincible.
Fang Xu, however, insisted on waiting until Bai Yifeng was willing to accept him, asserting, “You and I are both single, why shouldn’t we be together?”
Bai Yifeng’s only evaluation of this was that Alphas were simply melodramatic.
Weren’t they just tied together by a mark? At worst, they would just slowly get used to it; there was nothing unacceptable about it. He had even accepted the fact that he had died and come back to life. Handling a little matter like “feelings” was easy work.
But Fang Xu was overly serious. If he hadn’t received an urgent notice today to carry out a mission with the military, he probably would have tried every possible way to stay at home.
Just before leaving, to avoid a repeat of the last emergency, Fang Xu promised he would return as quickly as possible. He suggested leaving a temporary mark on Bai Yifeng, noting it would make things physically easier for him while Fang Xu was away.
Bai Yifeng agreed readily. It was just a bite, wasn’t it? Yet, Fang Xu hesitated, unable to bring himself to do it.
“Are you going to bite or not?” Bai Yifeng yawned. “It is 11:35 PM. I really want to sleep.”
“I am going to bite now. It will hurt a bit,” Fang Xu said, taking a deep breath. He looked at Bai Yifeng’s exposed, fair nape. Although the soft flesh on a Beta’s nape was not particularly prominent, Betas did have glands; they were just deeply hidden and not very functional.
When Fang Xu’s fangs pierced the skin of Bai Yifeng’s nape, Bai Yifeng clenched his fists tight. What do you mean “a bit”? It hurts!
He endured the pain, trying his best not to let Fang Xu notice his distress. As the marking succeeded, a wave of tingling numbness surged through him, suppressing the pain. Bai Yifeng’s knees went weak, and just as he was about to collapse, Fang Xu caught him with quick reflexes. Fang Xu straightened up to look at the mark he had left; a part of his heart felt completely full. He could not resist pulling Bai Yifeng into a hug and giving him two firm kisses.
The kisses landed with great restraint on the corner of his mouth, not daring to approach the softer lips. Bai Yifeng let out a “tsk,” causing Fang Xu to freeze. “Brother Feng, mmmph.”
Bai Yifeng had grabbed the back of Fang Xu’s neck and kissed him. However, Bai Yifeng’s kissing technique was lackluster, and eventually, Fang Xu took back control. After a deep kiss ended, both were left a bit dazed.
Bai Yifeng heard that familiar beeping sound again. He patted Fang Xu’s chest and pushed him toward the door. “Go on, they are urging you again.”
“Brother Feng, do you not think we are like an old married couple right now?” Fang Xu blocked the door with his arm and squeezed back in, his eyes bright. Bai Yifeng turned his face away, muttering about him being “disrespectful to his elders,” and pushed him out.
Outside the door, Fang Xu lingered for a couple of seconds, seemingly wanting to say more, but his communicator would not stop ringing. Finally, he turned and left quickly.
Leaning against the back of the door, Bai Yifeng raised a hand to touch his lips. The warmth belonging to Fang Xu seemed to linger there, and his surroundings were filled with the floral scent of the Alpha’s pheromones. This gradually calmed his heart. Although he did not want to admit it, facing Fang Xu was much better than facing that lunatic, Fang Yang.
Thinking of Fang Yang, Bai Yifeng remembered seeing Louis appear here when he was in a daze that day. He looked down at his terminal and decided to try sending a message. It was the middle of the night, and he was not sure if Louis was asleep.
Bai Yifeng: Louis, how is the injury on your face?
Just as he sent it, his terminal beeped twice. Stunned, Bai Yifeng clicked it open to find it was indeed a reply from Louis.
Louis: Thanks to Mr. Bai’s concern, it has healed. Louis: Thank you for your care.
Two very formal and polite sentences. As Bai Yifeng wondered if he should continue the conversation, Louis sent another message.
Louis: The Eldest Young Master is currently staying at the ancestral home. Unless necessary, please do not return.
Is he warning me? Bai Yifeng scratched his cheek, went back to the bedroom, and lay on the bed. He brought up the floating screen and replied.
Bai Yifeng: Is he making things difficult for you?
It was hard for Bai Yifeng to say exactly what kind of person Louis was. He was loyal, but it was unclear to whom. On the day of the divorce, he had stood behind Fang Yang with lowered eyes, seemingly very obedient. Given that Fang Yang was the “Eldest Young Master” and the current head of the Fang family, it was normal for Louis to follow his orders.
But a few days ago, he had come over to help Fang Xu. Had he told Fang Yang about Fang Xu’s situation? No.
This time, Louis’s reply was not as formal, but very brief. Seeing that it was now midnight, Bai Yifeng put his terminal away, not wanting to disturb Louis’s rest. Just then, the terminal beeped twice again. He thought it was Louis, but it turned out to be from Fang Xu.
Fang Xu: I have to hand in my terminal now. Fang Xu: Love you, goodnight. O v O
A smile crept onto Bai Yifeng’s lips without him even realizing it. Tapping with his fingertips, he sent a reply to Fang Xu before falling asleep.
On the other side, Fang Xu was clutching his terminal bracelet in anticipation. Behind him, Frye and the others craned their necks, trying to see who he was waiting for. When the terminal beeped, Fang Xu checked it impatiently, then handed it over with a face full of bliss after powering it off. He turned around to find a dozen pairs of eyes on him and snapped defensively, “What are you doing! Get in formation, now!”
“Colonel, are you really not going to tell us?” Luke leaned in with a face full of gossip. He earned a kick from Fang Xu and ended up hopping on one leg. “Colonel, be fair! I have not found out anything yet!”
The group laughed and joked around Fang Xu as they prepared to board the starship. Suddenly, a support soldier caught up from behind. “Colonel! There is an internal call!”
Why is Big Brother looking for me now?
Fang Xu sent his teammates onto the ship before turning back to take the call. On the other end, Fang Yang sounded exhausted. “Xiao Xu, have you seen Bai Yifeng lately?”
“Brother, what happened? You sound tired.”
“I am fine, it is just that I previously installed a tracking chip on Bai Yifeng. Before, I could trace him to the vicinity of the Josephine Mountains. Although I do not know what he was doing there, anyway,” Fang Yang took a deep breath, “his tracking chip was fished out from a small lake at the foot of the Josephine Mountains yesterday. I drained the lake but could not find him.”
“Brother.”
“Do you think he is still alive?” Fang Yang’s voice was hoarse. “There are many wild beasts near the Josephine Mountains. Could he have already…”
“Brother, why are you looking for him?” Fang Xu interrupted. “You never loved him. Was the tracking chip to protect him? Or are you just used to using him to satisfy your need for control?”
Fang Yang went silent. After a long while, he spoke: “Xiao Xu, how can you talk to your brother like that?”
“Sorry. I am busy heading into battle. Perhaps my pheromones are acting up and I am losing control. Do not take it to heart, Brother,” Fang Xu said, realizing he was losing his temper.
“Alright. Stay safe and come back soon,” Fang Yang sighed. “Remember to come to the ancestral home once you are back. I miss you.”
“Okay, Brother,” Fang Xu agreed. He handed the communicator back to the support staff and smiled. “Thanks for your hard work.”
“It is no trouble. Safe travels to everyone.”
On the other side.
“Louis, help me keep an eye on what is happening with Xiao Xu lately.”
At the Fang family ancestral home, after hanging up, Fang Yang stayed in his room alone for ten minutes before calling Louis. “See who he has been interacting with recently.”
“Does the Eldest Young Master want me to monitor the Second Young Master?” Louis asked. “The Old Master will not be happy if he finds out.”
“Just pay attention,” Fang Yang said, having no energy to argue. “What does it have to do with the Old Master? Just keep your mouth shut.”
“Then Mr. Ye.”
“The wedding will proceed as planned.” Fang Yang rubbed his face. He had to fulfill his promise to Ye Lang. His brother’s continuous deployments worried him, and now Bai Yifeng was playing at being missing.
It is better if he is just missing.
He could not explain where the worry in his heart came from. Logically, he should not care this much about a Beta; he could only attribute it to the remains of an old friendship.
“Find Bai Yifeng,” Fang Yang called out to Louis as he turned to leave. “Bring him to me. I want to see him, dead or alive.”
Louis said nothing, only bowed. After returning to his own lounge, he sat in silence for a long time before composing a message and hitting send.
“Damn it, they actually used vintage shells! Those things do not have a lick of humanitarianism in them!” Luke grumbled as he stripped off his gear. Beside him, Frye could not help but swear too: “Fuck, my communicator got blown up.”
“Add that to the treaty! Make them pay for a new one!” Luke shouted. “I am going to sue them for violating the Interstellar Peace Treaty! Make them pay millions of Star Credits!”
“No matter how much they pay, it will not go to you,” Fang Xu said calmly. He began distributing everyone’s terminals. While Luke clamored about applying for personal compensation, Fang Xu looked down at his booting terminal. The name he was expecting did not appear, but Bai Yifeng should be resting at this hour anyway; it was not convenient to disturb him. However, there was one unread message.
From Louis: Is it convenient to arrange a meeting between Mr. Bai and the Eldest Young Master?
Fang Xu narrowed his eyes. His dragon tail, which he had not retracted yet, was stained with blood from some unfortunate soul. He flicked it, splashing blood onto the rambling Luke’s face. To the background noise of Luke swearing and looking for something to wipe his face with, Fang Xu crushed the terminal in his hand with a crack.
Luke: “I will shut up. I am shutting up right now.”
Colonel, please do not crush me!
“Colonel, your hand!” Frye rushed over and called a medical robot to give Fang Xu a simple bandage. Fang Xu did not even blink when the shards were picked out. Frye hurried to find a spare terminal and recovered the chip from the wreckage. “Colonel, here.”
Please do not crush this one too!
This happened more than once or twice in the military, so they always prepared many spares for Fang Xu. As long as the chip was not destroyed, it was plug-and-play.
With a dark expression, Fang Xu replied to Louis. He did not even expect a response. On the other end, Louis finally received the reply. Though the content was hard to look at, truthfully, it was the first time he had seen Fang Xu “speak” profanity, it did not hinder his understanding of the underlying meaning.
The meeting could happen. Fang Xu had to be there. Fang Xu would set the time.
Louis breathed a sigh of relief. As long as they could find a way to keep Fang Yang steady, everything else would be manageable.
However, he never would have guessed that Fang Xu would set the date for that day.
