- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 19 - Let Us Go and Crawl Into Your Bed!
Bai Yifeng had not expected Fang Yang to seek him out proactively after being exposed. Although he did not explicitly state he was looking for him, the way his gaze kept drifting over made his intentions clear.
He had originally planned to sit and eat with Fang Xu, but now the situation had shifted. The two brothers, Fang Xu and Fang Yang, occupied one table, while Bai Yifeng sat with Messier, tray in hand. As he stuffed blue cauliflower into his mouth, he frowned at the movement across the room, ready to splash soup all over Fang Yang’s face if he dared to lay a hand on Fang Xu.
However, up until now, the two of them had remained relatively peaceful, aside from stopping occasionally to exchange a few words.
“Mr. Bai, I have finished eating. May I leave first?” Messier asked tremulously. No sooner had the words left his mouth than the Alpha sitting next to him stopped his chopsticks.
Fry, who had appeared there for reasons unknown, remarked, “Is that all you are eating? I thought being a doctor was exhausting. Eat more.”
Luke, also present for unknown reasons, went a step further and simply snatched Messier’s tray away. When he returned, the tray was piled high with a mountain of food. “Eat.”
On the verge of tears, Messier turned a pleading gaze toward Bai Yifeng. The Beta had just turned around to try a different dish when he saw Messier looking at him pitifully. Bai Yifeng blinked in surprise. “What is wrong?”
Fry and Luke had only met Bai Yifeng once. Aside from that, they had only heard of this Beta through rumors. Seeing him look over, Luke withdrew the hand that was pushing the tray toward Messier and said quite righteously, “I am just looking out for the doctor so he does not starve to death.”
Bai Yifeng did not know whether to laugh or cry. He moved half of the food from Messier’s tray onto his own. “You should be able to finish it now, right?”
Messier nodded as if he had been granted a reprieve. He truly was not full, but the feeling of being watched by two soldiers was agonizing. Fortunately, Bai Yifeng had saved him. He picked up his chopsticks again and began to eat slowly, bite by bite. He had barely taken two bites when he suddenly started choking. Bai Yifeng hurried to have Luke, who was closest, pat his back. However, Luke’s two heavy swats nearly knocked Messier unconscious. Just as things finally settled down, a soft voice drifted over from the Fang brothers’ table.
“Colonel, good evening.”
Bai Yifeng and the two soldiers whipped their heads around simultaneously. Sure enough, a familiar Omega was standing by Fang Yang’s table, leaning down to speak with him.
Now they knew why Messier had choked; he had clearly been triggered.
Perhaps because the gaze from their side was too intense, Fang Xu could not help but look back, even sending a wink Bai Yifeng’s way.
Bai Yifeng struggled to suppress the corners of his mouth to keep from smiling. After all, there was a person right here who needed comforting. He turned back toward the unlucky Messier. “Are you really just going to watch?”
“What else can I do?” Messier grabbed a few tissues to wipe his mouth and lowered his head. “They have been like this for more than just a day or two. Besides, I cannot win a fight against the Eldest Young Master of the Fang family.”
“Who told you to fight him?” Bai Yifeng put down his chopsticks and seriously began to offer advice. “I am asking why you do not try letting go.”
Messier shook his head. “I, I cannot do it. Song Ye and I grew up together. Before graduation, we promised to be together for a lifetime.”
“I am already divorced,” Bai Yifeng interrupted him. “All you need to do is say the word breakup.”
“I probably, cannot be as detached as you, Mr. Bai.” Messier lowered his head, staring at the food on his tray. People moved back and forth around them, most of them Alphas. Messier, who was an Alpha himself, was so timid that he could not integrate with them. “I love him.”
Leaving behind those words, he seemed unable to stand the intimacy between Song Ye and Fang Yang any longer. He stood up and hurriedly fled the cafeteria.
Fry and Luke had come specifically to protect Bai Yifeng. After all, news had spread across the Imperial Star that Bai Yifeng was now Fang Xu’s boyfriend. Since everything was out in the open, they had to look out for their Colonel.
And by extension, they had to look out for the Colonel’s boyfriend as well.
“Er, Mr. Bai,” Fry, who was more articulate than Luke, said thoughtfully, “everyone in the military knows about Messier’s situation. You will not be able to persuade him with just a few words.”
“What a coward,” Luke sighed. “But he really cannot compete with the Colonel’s brother, especially since Song Ye is throwing himself at him.”
To put it plainly, it was a tangled mess. The person involved was not just confused; he was willingly acting as a laughingstock.
“Do not bother trying to persuade him. Be careful not to get burned yourself,” Fry warned. Just as Bai Yifeng was about to say something, someone sat down beside him. Song Ye placed his tray down and greeted Bai Yifeng in a low voice, “Brother Bai, may I sit here?”
Fry and Luke already disliked Song Ye. Seeing this, they planned to stay and watch the situation, but they did not expect Bai Yifeng to stand up even faster than them. The Beta finished his food in a few quick bites, picked up his tray, and stood up. He smiled at him with polite detachment. “Sit as long as you like.”
Bai Yifeng was a bit angry.
Whether it was because of Messier’s cowardice, Song Ye’s blatant disregard for feelings because he knew Messier would not do anything, or Fang Yang’s sudden appearance disrupting his and Fang Xu’s plans, he was thoroughly fuming.
Luke watched in stunned silence until Fry grabbed him and hauled him away. Suddenly, the table was left with only Song Ye. The sudden vacancy caused many people to look over. Embarrassed, Song Ye lowered his head to eat, choosing to pretend he had not noticed anything.
“Hey, hey,” Luke complained as he was dragged along, the movement choking his neck. But before he could break free from Fry’s grip, his attention was caught by something else. He cursed and said in shock, “He actually sat down right there?”
Fry followed his gaze and was instantly dumbfounded.
They watched as Bai Yifeng calmly cleared his tray and returned it to the staff at the window before planting himself directly opposite Fang Xu and Fang Yang.
Fang Yang had not expected him to take a seat so boldly. Fang Xu, on the other hand, quickly pushed the dessert in front of him toward the Beta. “Brother Feng, eat this.”
Bai Yifeng liked sweet things. Before he could even reach for it, Fang Xu had already stood up to grab a bottle of honey and drizzled some over the dessert. He did not sit back down next to Fang Yang; instead, he sat side by side with Bai Yifeng.
“If Big Brother has nothing else to do, I will take Brother Feng to see the dormitories now.” Fang Xu knew he had not discussed the dorms with Bai Yifeng yet, so he used the explanation to Fang Yang to inform him as well. “The military will be very busy for the next while. Both Brother Feng and I will be staying here. If Grandpa needs to find me, tell him to call the military internal line.”
His words were intended to see his guest off. Ever since the old man’s birthday banquet, the relationship between the two brothers had been strained. If Fang Yang had not come to find his younger brother today, Fang Xu likely would not have sought him out of his own accord.
At this thought, Fang Yang could not help but glare at Bai Yifeng. The latter let out a laugh, scooped up a spoonful of dessert, and touched it to Fang Xu’s lips. Fang Xu naturally opened his mouth and ate it. If that had been all, it might have been fine, Fang Yang would have at most glared again, but Bai Yifeng purposely stuck out the tip of his tongue and licked the spoon Fang Xu had touched.
Bang!
Fang Yang slapped the table and stood up. The commotion drew the attention of many people around them. He took a deep breath, unable to hide the rage and lingering reluctance in his eyes. He forced a smile for his brother. “Remember to tell me before you go on a mission. I am leaving now.”
“Alright, Big Brother.”
“Fang Yang,” Bai Yifeng suddenly interrupted Fang Xu’s response, asking in a moderate voice, “Song Ye’s wedding is in a month. Have you thought about what gift to give?”
The surrounding area fell silent. Fang Yang’s face turned various shades of blue and black. In the end, he said nothing. Following the muffled thud of the cafeteria door closing behind him, the room returned to the sounds of casual conversation and chewing.
“Brother Feng, what is wrong?” Fang Xu leaned close to his shoulder and whispered, “You are angry.”
“I just,” Bai Yifeng finished the last bite of dessert and frowned. “I just think Fang Yang is a real bastard.”
He had already broken free from the original plot’s settings and successfully escaped Fang Yang’s control, yet he had not expected to see his past self in Messier.
At this thought, he added, “Song Ye is no good either. How does that saying go again?”
“What?”
“Oh, right,” Bai Yifeng stood up slowly, staring at Song Ye’s retreating back. “A rotten pot for a rotten lid. They truly are a match made in heaven.”
“A single dormitory. What do you think?”
Fang Xu took him for a tour around the residential area, pointed to where he lived, and smiled. “I live right over there. You are welcome to come and crawl into my bed anytime, Brother Feng.”
“I am coming tonight.” Bai Yifeng had not had time to bring his luggage over yet. Even if the dormitory were perfect, he did not want to sleep alone on the first night. So, he decided to be thick skinned and sleep with Fang Xu for a night. “But no doing it.”
“Am I that kind of person?” Fang Xu could not help but laugh. “I am satisfied just holding you, Brother Feng. Oh, I have something to tell you in a bit.”
“Can you not say it here?” Bai Yifeng looked around but saw no one. Fang Xu, however, grabbed his hand and whispered, “Grandpa has people in the military.”
“Let us go, then. To your bed.” Bai Yifeng frowned slightly. In a rare moment of childishness, he walked hand in hand with him toward the other dormitory building. Along the way, several soldiers passed them with their shirts off. Seeing Fang Xu holding someone’s hand, they assumed it was an Omega and hurriedly threw their clothes back on. It was only after Fang Xu passed that they realized he was holding a Beta.
“Why is the Colonel holding hands with a Beta?”
“They must be talking about business, right?”
“Would you hold hands while talking about business with the Colonel?”
“Probably not.”
A well meaning teammate reminded them helplessly, “That is the Colonel’s boyfriend from the medical department. Besides, do you look down on Betas?”
“From the medical department, huh?”
“Oh, and by the way, that Beta is also the Colonel’s brother’s ex-husband.”
“Why did you not say that sooner!”
When they looked back, the two figures were already out of sight.
