- The Wealthy Old Man Carried a Child After His Divorce
- Chapter 14 - I Am Brother Feng’s Little Boyfriend!
The atmosphere among the group was a mix of silence and tension, drawing the attention of many nearby guests. Since the Old Master had not yet arrived, Fang Yang did not intend to stand there and make a fool of himself. He forced a smile onto his face and, no longer looking at Bai Yifeng, said to Louis, “Take the Second Young Master inside first.”
Louis lowered his head. “Yes, Eldest Young Master.”
Neither of them mentioned Bai Yifeng, and the Beta did not care; Fang Xu was holding his hand, after all. If it were not for Fang Xu, he truly would not have wanted to come today. As they passed by Fang Yang, their shoulders accidentally brushed against each other. Bai Yifeng let out a soft groan and frowned slightly. Fang Xu immediately led him to the other side, stepping between him and Fang Yang to keep them separated.
The tension between the two brothers eased slightly. Fang Yang wanted to say a few more words to Fang Xu, but seeing his hand interlocked with Bai Yifeng’s, the words got stuck in his throat. His chest felt heavy and constricted. What exactly is going on?
Ye Lang watched with wide eyes as Fang Xu led Bai Yifeng into the Fang family ancestral home. He never expected these two to get together. For a moment, his brain felt like it was melting from overthinking. When Fang Yang returned to his side, the Omega subconsciously leaned in, but Fang Yang dodged him.
Whether Fang Yang did it intentionally or not, the action left Ye Lang in a gloomy mood. He had to pretend to ask casually, “Why did the Second Young Master come here with Bai Yifeng?”
“Guests attending the birthday banquet can bring a partner. They probably just traveled together since they were headed to the same place,” Fang Yang replied dismissively. Ye Lang thought to himself, Who are you trying to fool? Those two looked anything but innocent. However, he did not dare to contradict Fang Yang. Their wedding was set for the near future, and he did not want any more complications because of Bai Yifeng.
This was his only chance to rise from being Fang Yang’s lover to his official partner. He had to grasp it firmly and could not let Bai Yifeng ruin his plans.
Heaven knows how long he had coveted Bai Yifeng’s original position.
“Brother Feng, wait for me here for a moment. I will go get you something to drink.”
The living room and courtyard of the ancestral home had been decorated into a banquet hall. It was brightly lit, and a transparent, magnificent canopy had been unfurled overhead. It blocked the cold wind while ensuring no one would miss the sight of the deep blue night sky. Servants moved through the crowd, offering various alcoholic drinks. Fang Xu did not want Bai Yifeng to drink, and the latter was thinking the same thing. “Just get me a glass of juice.”
Fang Xu nodded. Just as he let go of Bai Yifeng’s hand, he felt numerous gazes land on them. The whispering around them was not hidden at all, drifting clearly into their ears.
“Is that not the Eldest Young Master’s spouse?”
“I heard they got divorced a while ago. It caused quite a stir.”
“Why is the Second Young Master standing with him? I heard Eldest Master Fang lost his temper quite badly. I thought this out-of-place Beta would never show his face here again.”
“Who knows? Once you are used to this kind of life, I suppose any brother will do. If I were him, I would cling to any Alpha associated with the Fang family.”
The last few comments were incredibly foul. Fang Xu let out a “tsk” of annoyance, but before he could lose his temper, Bai Yifeng gave his hand a tug. “Brother Feng?”
“This is a necessary step,” Bai Yifeng said softly. “People have mouths, and you cannot stop them from talking. Today is not your show; do not make the Old Master angry.”
The Old Master of the Fang family would be three hundred and seventy years old after today. Every time Bai Yifeng thought of that number, he found it absurd; he could not imagine what kind of ancient person he would be.
“I know.” Bai Yifeng let go of Fang Xu’s hand, but the Alpha immediately caught it again. “Brother Feng, what did you mean by ‘a necessary step’?”
Bai Yifeng allowed him to hold his hand, leaning back into the sofa with a relaxed posture. A faint, unreadable smile played on his lips. “Regardless of what happens today, after today, you will be my, Bai Yifeng’s, little boyfriend.”
Fang Xu was left dazed by that smile. Even as he got up to get the juice, his mind was filled with the words “little boyfriend.”
When Ye Lang spotted Bai Yifeng in the crowd, the Beta was looking down, tapping on his terminal. Fang Yang’s urgent voice sounded in his ear: “Ye Lang, come here. Grandpa’s car has arrived at the gate.”
Fang Yang watched as Ye Lang clumsily adjusted his tie and hurried to keep up. Glancing over Ye Lang’s shoulder, he saw the Beta sitting on a sofa in the corner. Fang Yang’s gaze darkened. For some reason, he suddenly remembered that whenever guests came to the ancestral home in the past, he never had to prepare anything. Bai Yifeng always had everything ready in advance; he only needed to sit and be the host.
Ye Lang was completely clueless about these matters. Although Louis had been teaching him, learning took time. It just so happened that the Old Master’s banquet coincided with this awkward transition. Fang Yang had been forced to leave everything to Louis. Fortunately, Louis had been with the Fang family for decades and was experienced enough to handle everything without Fang Yang’s intervention.
Fang Yang looked back at his brother, who looked back and gave a characteristic, obedient nod, gesturing for him to wait a moment.
After Fang Xu handed the juice to Bai Yifeng, he told him to sit there and not wander off before getting up to follow Fang Yang. “Big Brother.”
“Let us go. Grandpa has not seen you in a long time.” Fang Yang bypassed Ye Lang and walked side by side with his brother. Ye Lang bit his lip, said nothing, and followed behind.
The Old Master of the Fang family did not arrive by car. A massive starship hovered and docked at the entrance of the ancestral home. Louis stepped forward to receive the elderly man. The Old Master looked to be only in his sixties; he had a stern, unsmiling face, but he broke into a smile the moment he saw Fang Yang and Fang Xu. “Xiao Yang, Xiao Xu, come here quickly.”
“Grandpa.” The two brothers stepped forward, each supporting him on one side. Leaning against the sofa, Bai Yifeng caught this scene from the crowd. He could clearly perceive that the Old Master was not as close to Fang Xu as he was to Fang Yang. It seemed Fang Xu was right; the Old Master truly did not think much of him.
The guests offered their blessings one after another, and the smile on the Old Master’s face deepened. He was led into the ancestral home by the two brothers and sat on the sofa in the main hall, chuckling as he told the guests not to be so nervous and to enjoy the banquet.
Bai Yifeng took a sip of his juice. The tip of his tongue caught the fresh fragrance of apple. The Beta looked down at the pale blue juice in his hand; no matter how he looked at it, it did not look like apple. He could only look up silently and continue searching for Fang Xu’s figure.
The Old Master was the star of the evening. The guests naturally cooperated with his wishes, and no one stepped forward to interrupt his conversation with his grandsons. The volume of the room dropped significantly.
Ye Lang did not go forward; he knew his place. Although the news of the engagement had spread, everyone around Fang Yang recognized him and knew he was the third party between Bai Yifeng and Fang Yang. No matter how much people looked down on that Beta, his own status was not exactly respectable.
Under the circumstances, Fang Yang had clearly forgotten about him. Ye Lang could only drink his frustrations away. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Bai Yifeng peering over with his juice. In a bad mood, he was about to go over to cause some trouble and score some verbal points when he suddenly heard the Old Master call out Bai Yifeng’s name.
“Where is Yifeng? Why do I not see him?” After asking about his two grandsons’ recent lives, the Old Master realized someone seemed to be missing from Fang Yang’s side. “Why has that child not come to see me? Is he sick?”
The voices of the people around them dropped even lower, and everyone looked over. It seemed this pampered elderly man did not have the habit of checking the news on his terminal.
Fang Yang hesitated to speak. It was Fang Xu who spoke up with a smile. “Grandpa, Brother Feng had a bit of an accident. There are some things he cannot remember.”
“What happened?” the Old Master asked, his eyes wide.
Fang Yang was also stunned by Fang Xu’s words. Amnesia? Why did I not know? If he lost his memory, why did he specifically remember to divorce me?
“He was a bit ill, but he has recovered now. The amnesia is a lingering side effect.” Fang Xu glanced toward Bai Yifeng. The Old Master followed his gaze and happened to lock eyes with Bai Yifeng, who was looking down, sipping the fruit bits from his juice.
The Beta froze. Why are they suddenly looking over here?
Fang Xu helped the Old Master up. “Grandpa, do you want to go see him?”
“Of course I want to see him. That child, how did he exhaust himself to this point? Xiao Yang, you do not even know how to care for him!” The Old Master pointed accusingly at Fang Yang. The latter frowned deeply. Seeing this, the Old Master knew he was hiding something. He stopped in his tracks, and Bai Yifeng, who had stood up in the distance to prepare for the crisis, had to sit back down.
What exactly are they trying to do?
As the Old Master reached out his hand, Louis, who had been waiting nearby, handed over his habitual walking stick. The elderly man waved off Fang Xu’s support, propping himself up with the stick. He looked at Fang Yang with dissatisfaction. “Do you not think you should give this isolated old man an explanation?”
Everyone went silent. In the eerie stillness, Fang Yang spoke with difficulty. “Grandpa, Bai Yifeng and I divorced a while ago.”
The Old Master’s eyes widened. “Divorce?”
“Grandpa, it was Brother Feng’s idea,” Fang Xu explained softly. “Big Brother was concerned about your health and did not want to worry you, so he did not tell you.”
The Old Master raised his walking stick as if to strike Fang Yang, but eventually restrained himself. He shook his head in disappointment and let Fang Xu support him. “Xiao Xu, take me to see Yifeng.”
Fang Xu looked back at Fang Yang with a comforting glance. The latter smiled bitterly, his eyes following the old and the young. Just then, someone stepped forward to start a conversation, and Ye Lang timely brought him a drink. He had no choice but to attend to these people, momentarily withdrawing his gaze.
Seeing Fang Xu lead the Old Master over, Bai Yifeng stood up and called out politely to the Old Master. His distant yet proper attitude made the Old Master sigh. “Yifeng, you have been wronged all these years.”
Bai Yifeng looked at Fang Xu, and the latter cleared his throat. The Beta waited for him to smooth things over, only to hear Fang Xu say, “Grandpa, Brother Feng will be joining the medical department of the army I belong to in a while.”
“Good, good.” The Old Master’s face stiffened for a moment upon hearing this; Bai Yifeng guessed he truly disliked having anything to do with the military. However, for Bai Yifeng’s sake, he still said “good” twice.
Yet Fang Xu did not intend to end it there or leave the time only to the Old Master and Bai Yifeng. Instead, he continued, “Grandpa, I have one more thing to tell you.”
Bai Yifeng’s heart skipped a beat as he guessed what was coming. Sure enough, Fang Xu said with a hint of shyness, “Brother Feng is now my boyfriend.”
